Quote:I know I am pulling this thread out from the dead but I needed this info but I wanted to add something to it.Hello all,
Well, got my TA/A to level 27 and loving OSA. It's just a fun power and the damage is icing.
I'm wondering if any TA/* defender can offer any advice for targeting the Oil Slick easily? I find myself shooting it and then fumbling to try to find it so I can ignite it with my tech origin power/taser.
Any other tips for TA/A in general would be appreciated...
Including a good attack chain?
Thanks much for any advice!
I use
/Macro LOSA "$$targetname Oil Slick$$powexec_name Taser Dart"
You have to click it twice, once to target the Slick, the next to fire your Taser Dart (or the other one from the Mutant set) but it does work. -

This does not change the fact that this game has been dissappointing one after the next. Changing one of the "main" features that was to be included when you purchased GR to the next issue so it became just one big new tutorial, then 3 months later it's only HALF of what the "first level with Going Rogue" meant, at this pace we should have the 10 levels by i40. Not to mention all of the other bugs and broken stuff that has been allowed to persist (Bases, PvP, etc..).....
They can't keep postponing stuff and reducing it, somewhere they have to say something, do it and get it out when there's an expectation for it.
I am more or less upset about the fact that this bug has been prevelant since the beginning of their closed beta testing and they have JUST now gotten around to acknowledging and listening to all of their beta players.
GR and how it's been split into different parts, some of which had to be paid separately is very bush league. -
Hey All,
I find it rather amusing that folks feel the need to "Thank" the Dev's for telling us what's going on..... It's a reflection of how bad things have gotten in the MMO industry as a whole (not Cox) that we find it unusual to be given info for a service we PAY for, hence this should be the norm and expected and really not a big deal.
I'm happy with CoX and the Dev's in general don't get me wrong, but really folks, they are providing a service that we all pay for and information should be flowing easily, epically when you consider that we travel to their website to find out whats going on, rather then they pushing it to our in boxes or (gasp) using snail-mail as companies had to use in the past or town criers in the distant past.
Our expectations have gotten lower and lower...sad... -
Quote:Umm, not wanting to use Vengeance was kinda the point of this thread LOL.Agreed, I'd be surprised if he needs any resists to survive against Council for example. The roughly 100 hp/sec regen is going to way out do what most of typical scanner mission foes can manage against his soft capped trio, particularly if he launched Rain of Arrows from under/around cover etc.. Or stealths in and OG's the spawn as the Imps hit etc etc..
At worst he gets to use Vengeance.
Edit: Just meaning the next thing I'd work on if I wanted to add survivability would be +max health. The regen he has plus 2 Fortitudes is already a huge amount of survivability, the rest is pretty much icing on the cake.
Other then the accolades (of which I have none) what else can I do to increase my max health? I've never looked at doing that at all.
To everyone: Thanks for all the suggestions, I was hoping I19 was going to go live today so I can start my respecs but oh well. -
Quote:So,The personal shields on defenders are very powerful, and a controller's shields aren't bad at all, so you should easily be able to give up a little defense.
Are you saying that just the APP shields combined with all that DEF should be enough or that I should take tough + those shields? sigh....
Ie. Is the 42% or so S/L that the APP gives should be enough or do I want to combine that with the 22% or so S/L that tough gives?
I think I answered my own question actually, I didn't realize that the APP shield was SO much higher or Mids is wacky. -
Thanks for all the Feedback folks, I guess in the end the question is I have enough +DEF but is just the APP sheilds (Res Wise) gonna be enough? I would think so with constant AB and sometimes (depending on the cycle) 2X Regeneration Aura.
I really wanna drop Fighting to get more attacks or perhaps stealth or something else. -
Hello All,
So with I19 coming out and the two FreeSpec's that we're gonna get I am re-evaluating my Trio (yes Trio).
I have 2 Emp/Archers and a Fire/Emp troller, so with 2x Fort on Everyone and 3x Maneuvers running I have 54% Defense (more on some vectors with sets) without Weave.
So I am wondering if I could do away with the fighting pool completely and just use the RES shields that I get with my APP (in this case, Dark).
So do I need the extra 7% that I get with Weave and more RES with Tough/APP shields or could I get away with just what I have now and the APP shield?
I'm Blueside, doing Radio Mish's and the odd AV. -
Quote:Welcome to the game on easy mode, I run a duo (and a trio, yes three accounts) like this, it really is quite powerful and safe. With a pair of Emp's you getSo a buddy and I are working on two emp/sonics to run together, primarily teaming alone so we can buff each other to crazy levels. I'm getting ready to plan the builds and I'm wondering if there is really much of a point in going for IO set bonuses.
With Fort, Adrenaline Boost, the auras, tactics, assault, maneuvers, and hasten is there really that much more benefit we can gain from IO sets? If so, what do yall think we should shoot for? I haven't looked at the numbers yet, but I'm guessing we'll need a little bit of global recharge to make hasten perma, but it can't be that much.
As always, thoughts, comments, and suggestions greatly appreciated!
- Unlimited Endurance (since you going to be staggering the Auras)
- Tons of recharge (since you'll be able to AB yourselves)
- Capped Defense without Sets (you'll need Maneuvers/Weave/(Hover or CJ) for this)
- Status protection thats "Tank-a-Riffic" with Clear Mind.
As for making Hasten Perma, well, once you have AB (and three recharges) you really won't need to but you can with some sets.
Don't bother with Tactics, as 2x Fort allows you to basically not slot any ACC in most powers and Clear mind has a +Perception bonus so you can take Vengeance instead
Thunderstrikes are a nice and cheap set that will get you some nice bonuses, your ranged Defense will be silly.
Again, welcome to this game on easy mode....
As for your APP, I went with Dark for Oppressive Gloom, with your Aura's running you wont even see the HP drain and things that come to you will often get stunned and be easy pickings. -
Hey everyone,
My Plant troller (this one is /sonic) is getting to the levels that he'll have to face WarWolves, and since it's really difficult to lock them down (immob wise), what really (other then not selecting Radio Mish's that include them) do to keep them off?
Will Seeds work on them or should I just give up? Current Team is a DB/Fire scrapper and two Plants one FF and one Sonic for tons of shielding. I know the Scrapper can survive them since he's capped everywhere, but what I am afraid of is getting their attention LOL. -
Quote:It was a patch after GR AFAIK and it helps quite a bit since it took too long to use the power.I've not long returned from a long absence and i've been meaning to post this for a little while, but how long and more importantly why has the animation for 'Clear Mind' been changed from a nice one-armed casting animation to "Here!, let me free you from your bonds BY SHOVING MY PALM IN YOUR FACE !" (also known as Telekinetic Blast).
Thanks in advance.
It's the same animation as Speed Boost, so it works with my trio of Kin/Emp -
Quote:I gotta look at that one Shred, I guess it kinda depends on the recharge.I like dark for soul drain. Oppresive gloom won't be of use to you. If you're softcapped you'll take more damage with oppressivle gloom on then if you have it off.
If it's just the shield your looking at, I'd probably go with temp invulnerability from power mastery. -
Quote:It's all Fort, Manouvers and Weave (with Hover when I have it on) as far as my +Def goes, it's just that, when I do get hit, it's a massive amount of damage (PSI that is).Your soft cap is coming from Fortitude primarily, right? That has psionic defense, as does Weave, so the need for some extra psi resist isn't going to be as prevalent as it is for someone who used IOs to soft-cap S/L or ranged defense.
Soul Drain does stick out for such a trio among the Epics. How easy would it be for you to become a villain and do a patron arc? The problem with Dark Mastery is you're waiting till 47 for the gemstone. If you do a patron arc and grab Soul Mastery, you can get it at 41. I also would think having a hold attack on your Defenders might come in handy for when you want to lock down some particularly nasty targets. Soul Mastery would give you that, and Dark would not.
I am going to get Stunning shot (thats 2 of them at a time), I just don't know which shield to get, I am thinking PSI because of what I am fighting now, but it might change as I go during the run to 50 as it were.
I'm also not interested in going Red or Gold, so that pool is out for me.
What Res would be the most useful IYHO fro that range?

Quote:I was going to go Dark while I created this team (2 Emp/Archers) and now a Fire/Rad without CC, so I think I'll stick to that plan, it's just when a PSI blast does get through it hurts.......The shields are pretty much the same - good S/L resists with a side of something else.
Electric wins points for covering Energy, probably the third most common attack type.
Psi wins points for covering Psi damage, which isn't covered by Thermal or Sonic if you use them.
Dark wins for me though because of Oppressive Gloom. Best Defender epic power evah! Especially when there's more than one of you.
If you're softcapped I'd be looking at what else the power pools give you. Soul Drain is pretty sweet too, by the way, another reason to go Dark Mastery.
Congrats on 40 by the way. Go check out the Shadow Shard if you havent already! (Firebase Zulu marker in Peregrine Island)
Is a Dark shield gonna be enough to make it through to 50? I really wanna hit that with ONE of my teams for once...

Hey All,
My first toons finally hit 40 (woooo). So, now that my APP is drawing near, I have to wonder, from 40-50 which shield do I want the most.
My toon is soft capped (around 46% or so) and has Tough/Weave so I do have some S/L Res going as it is, but which shield do I want now? I'm thinking perhaps PSI res since Carnies have it and so do Arach's but what would you all suggest?
It's all Radio/Tip mishes for me for the most part, perhaps a farm or two with some other toons but mostly Radio.
-Rb -
Hey All,
Now I know there are like a billion Fire/Kin farmer builds but has anyone done it for a Fire/Rad? Can this toon even farm?
If someone could post one I would really appricate it.
Thank you.

Quote:Ouch, gotta hit a purple before each fight then.... thanks! Also since we are talking about the tip mission I'll point out, in addition to all the above posts, I'm guessing you are not in fact soft capped regardless of the presence or absence of Quartz eminators as ALL the DE in the tip alignment missions Base To Hit is 64% not 50%. This moves the goal posts for soft capping to 59% not 45%. The Quartz are merely moving the soft cap a whole lot more
-Rb -
Quote:Thanks alot for the info guys, atleast I understand it now..... dang they hit hard but now I know.Get rid of the quartzes as soon as possible. DE are a really bad matchup for defenders and controllers because they throw out mezzes and you need quick damage to take down the buffing objects they summon. If you're not sure what one does, the right click info will tell you.
I'll try to make a list from memory.
cairns- buffs resistance
quartz- buffs accuracy
tree- buffs regeneration
mushrooms- buffs status resistance

Hey All,
So I'm doing a Tips mission that involves Devouring Earth. I'm set to 2x/6 and they are just tearing my group apart.
My trio is 2 Emp/Archers and a Grav/Therm troller. I am soft caped, and have the thermal shields at all times but not only are they hitting me, but I'm getting nailed for 230+ smashing damage and thats with the shields on!!!!
Should I just set my setting lower for this mish or are there any other tricks I can use, I am using the Therm. powers like Melt Armor and Heat E. but it's not making a difference, they hit so hard!!!
Any Help?? -
It's been stated already but for what your describing I would do a Controller instead, specifically a Thermal one. You get basically the same Heals that Empathy does and buffs (Forge and the two resistance shields) and a Clear Mind (Thaw) power, a good Rez (better then Emp does) plus you get some debuffs that Empathy does not have.
For the Control set, I would go Plant, it's a good first Controller set, yes the pet is not considered top tier (like Fire or Stone) but the level 8 power Seeds of Confusion is IMHO the best power in the game, you cast this power and the mob's turn on each other, freeing you to attack and buff more since you'll have to heal less.
For a "more fun" Controller set, I would go Gravity, I just loss tossing the foes around and the last two powers (Wormhole and the Pet Singularity) are also top notch. Mind you, your tank isn't gonna like it as much since they generally prefer to Heard around them and you'll be tossing foes left and right (Tanks.. Bah... Glory seeking attention hogs!).
You'll get all the Heals/Support you want and still be quite useful at higher levels since you'll offer more then just "green numbers"

Hey All,
My current team is a pair of Emp/Archers with a Grav/Therm troller (Singy is a wicked pet).
Now, given this trio, I really don't slot any ACC on my powers because each toon has either Fortitue/Forge or 2x Fort depending on the toon so +Acc is not needed but I understand that not all powers (like the ones that spawn psudo-pets) pass on the global ACC of the user, so given the two AT's I listed, which powers do I have to slott ACC in? I'm guessing ROA and perhaps Wormhole?
Any help would be appricated, I have all the Archer attacks and everything on the Grav minus lift.

Well,
Although a Corr duo seems like a better bet damage wise, a duo of two Emp/xx would be my way to go, with the ability to Fortitude one another, plus the Aura's, plus Adrenalin Boost which can be made Perma at 33 with Hasten going, you'll do damage at a rate that makes whatever bonus Corr's get seem trivial, toss in 2x Assault and Maneuvers and your basically untouchable.
Edited: Let me take out that last remark.
