Devouring Earth probelms

Hey All,

So I'm doing a Tips mission that involves Devouring Earth. I'm set to 2x/6 and they are just tearing my group apart.

My trio is 2 Emp/Archers and a Grav/Therm troller. I am soft caped, and have the thermal shields at all times but not only are they hitting me, but I'm getting nailed for 230+ smashing damage and thats with the shields on!!!!

Should I just set my setting lower for this mish or are there any other tricks I can use, I am using the Therm. powers like Melt Armor and Heat E. but it's not making a difference, they hit so hard!!!

Any Help??

Were you targeting the cairns and quartz first?

Get rid of the quartzes as soon as possible. DE are a really bad matchup for defenders and controllers because they throw out mezzes and you need quick damage to take down the buffing objects they summon. If you're not sure what one does, the right click info will tell you.

I'll try to make a list from memory.
cairns- buffs resistance
quartz- buffs accuracy
tree- buffs regeneration
mushrooms- buffs status resistance

Actually Quartz buffs To Hit not accuracy. This is considerably worse for Robert's team since To Hit directly counters Defense (while accuracy is applied afterwards).

Also since we are talking about the tip mission I'll point out, in addition to all the above posts, I'm guessing you are not in fact soft capped regardless of the presence or absence of Quartz eminators as ALL the DE in the tip alignment missions Base To Hit is 64% not 50%. This moves the goal posts for soft capping to 59% not 45%. The Quartz are merely moving the soft cap a whole lot more

It has been my experience that DE don't like fire or negative energy attacks. If you grab a teammate with those it can help.

As general trends I believe you are correct, but all the different types have differing resists. This is off the top of my head and may be wrong (and also may be colored by perception):

All DE except the crystals are weak to negative. Additionally:
The crystals are weak to smashing (very) and resist eng/neg
The mushrooms are resistant to smashing and weak to lethal
The trees are resistant to smashing and weak to fire
The rocks are lethal resistant and have noticeable defenses
The devoured resist smashing and energy
