I like the melee attacks. I've also thought of /Thorny as a "scrapper light" set. And the contrary I find Mind/Thorns just begs for getting up "close and personal" to most mobs. Also Mind is loaded with up front cone damage. I don't miss Thorn Burst at all.

Plant/Psi or Plant/Electric. Plant is such a great utilitarian set that will compliment any mm sets very well. I just can't recommend plant highly enough in this scenario.

I'd like writing lowbie Arcs! Would you mind giving the ARC below a go when you can:
Title: Big Trouble Kings Row Style!
Arc ID: 259924
Level Range: 5-14
Synopsis: Detective Darcy Armand is having trouble keeping peace in King's Row since the Rikti invasion. Now a disturbing increase in gang activity threatens the city's comeback. Help Darcy discover the identity of the mysterious gang leader who is the cause of the city's recent woes! -

Think about something like:
"Listen $name, all I know is that we need someone to get into the Council base and hack their systems... I did hear though that they've got this new wizkid who actually knows what he's doing, so if you use these passwords I gave you on the wrong terminals, expect trouble!"
Then, I'd do something in the mission itself to clarify to the observant players that certain terminals are going to spawn the unwanted ambush while other terminals are safe to hack using the given passwords.

Oh I'm so "borrowing that idea".... -
This isn't my arc and honestly I don't know the person who wrote it. But I soloed it last night on my Grav/Psi and I have to say I enjoyed it. It seems to fit into the "Brimstone Club's" cannon quite well:
ARC ID: 32801
Title: Sharkshead Isle And The City of Banished Warriors.
It's was a lot of fun and very well written. I'm a fan of some of the good MA stuff, especially when it helps with a little light R.P.. -
The weird thing is, I have no trouble finding great arcs in MA that aren't farms. I would even argue most of the MA content isn't farms. At least not when I look. Farms are fairly obvious and easy to avoid if you want to. There's so much good stuff in the MA, I don't understand why eveyrone is obsessed with complaining about the farming.
Of course I usually play on Victory, Liberty, and Pinnacle. So I don't see the madness that happens on Freedom or Virtue. I guess I'd suggest maybe trying one of the smaller servers out if the farm spam bugs a person. -
A Plant/Psi Dominator would compliment two MM's quite well. Seeds of Confusion, Carrion Creepers, Roots, and Vines will help keep the playing field controlled. As well as keeping foes from scattering all over. (i.e keeping the mm pets from chasing straggles). Also Spirit Tree should stack well with Triage Beacon or any other + Regen powers.
Psi has incredible range and two nice melee powers Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave. Also Psychic Scream is a nice damage and -recharge debuff. If you each make room to get the leadership pool as well, you'll have some nice stacking buffs. -
Going to hug my Hunstman now. Hope I don't get Crabs (legs that is...)

The OP can also try submitting a tip for inclusion in the "pre-load" screen that comes up while missions are loading. That's as good a place for advice as any.

Ice/Ice is horrendously End intensive in the low levels. Arctic Air and ISC are the main culprits, so if your friend watches his usage of those powers he should do better. AA in particular can usually be put off until after stamina, as long as you spam the heck out of Shiver.

Yes, Ice/Ice was end heavy BEFORE the revamp. It's excessively so now IMHO. various Icey doms gave feedback during testing about how end hungry their various builds were. I wish I could find the posts as I believe some already had stamina and were still feeling the crunch.
On the other hand certain /thorny and /Energy doms have made out quite well. Your friend my try a reroll with one of those secondary's to see if that makes a diff. I really hope the dev team takes a look at Icey assualt, it needs rebalanced in terms of end costs. -
My mind/thorns certainly aren't hurting for damage. It seems to be a nice balance between cone and ST damage.
My 50 Mind/Energy is 100% stronger than before. She can take on a map full of carnies easily. My 50 Fire/Psi is still King of AoE IMHO. Which is something I'm very happy about. I was a little worried he'd be gimped beyond measure. -
Doms require a very unique "blapper" type of playstyle. You'll constantly be moving in and out of melee range. Though with Plant/Thorns I find it best to lay out solid Aoe Control first (seeds of confusion) and then go in with my hevay hitting melee attacks.
Plant/Thorn is one of the safest dom set out there. Especially after you get seeds. I'm not a fan of the immobilizes, they set up containment for controllers, but in general they don't do that much for doms. Except get you huge amount of aggro. However, casting the immobilize after you cast seeds isn't a bad thing. That can work out well...and add to the damage you're doing to the mobs. -
I find in general its best to limit the powersets you use in an arc. I know at first it seems like fun to throw in every powerset you can think of..but it can be overkill. Simple is best and more fun for people.

Ok trust me, I was the first person to cry FOUL on the PSW changes. I saw what was coming by simply connecting the dots before any actual numbers were posted.
I've backed off on that a bit. I always used Psyscream as part of my attack chain..so I'm not seeing much a diff on Fire/Psi. My fire/psi can still do his job. And I have to agree over all../psi has become a balanced set. I do think Castle and team did a good job evening out doms. But would he try the same thing with defenders or controllers..probably not. There are far too many players who like them the way they are..and poor defenders have been crying for a damage buff for ages now. Again I don't think Castle would dare touch defenders, that's just asking for trouble in a colossal way. -
Ice/Fire or Fire/Ice these days Ice/Ice is just such an endurance hog. I wish a dev would look into the endurance costs of Icey Assault just way to high in my book.
-
Synergy maybe not...
Powerboost plus Flashfire....pwnage. And lots of it. And jeesh paring the most damaging primary with the most damaging secondary couldn't possibly help at all.... -
Ive been heavy Dom/Controller teams on the LGTF and the ITF..and honestly...u don't need anything else. It bordered on the ridiculous how much control, debuffing, and damage a couple of controllers and doms can put it out.
Hmmm..maybe we have an idea for out next Super Team.
"Maximum Control: The all Dominator/Controller team". -
Ooops sorry just saw your post DC. I was very much into AE mission creation today. I earned my "Engineer" badge! I log on Sunday afternoon to see if anyone's into running SM again.
-
Fire/Energy was good before the damage buff. Its been recommended on the boards more than one. Since /Energy got its massive round of buffs, I can only assume its become even more amazing.
-
Earth/Thorny is one build where I wouldn't worry much about perma dom or alot of +recharge. Earth/Thorny can get along on just SO's or Generic IO's probably better than any other dom.
Personally, I like the -resist procs from Lady Gray's set. Gives your a dom that does -def and -resist, and toxic damage. Delicious. -
I was on team one. We moved at a safe, solid, and steady pace. It kind of reminded of being on a all tank team. I was on as "Strawman" my Mind/Thorns Dommie.
Our team makeup was really very good. AoE sleeps plus Seeds of Confusion is just about the safest teaming you can get IMHO. I would recommend blowing up the Sonic Bombs last were we to do that again. I use to run that SF regularly on my VG on Liberty. It's one of my favorites..probably the best written SF villain side. If people want to run it again..I'm up for it. -
Creating a spawn of thug MM's with Gang war will create a very nasty spawn...
-
a Mind/Psi dominator actually works for a vamp build as well. But I agree Dark/Regen (or will power) works as well too.
-
Sigh staying out of melee and not using your heavy hitting attacks are why most people thought there doms sucked IMHO.
Mezzing things then moving in to finish them off is best as far as I'm concerned. But this is why its best to not offer advice on "how to play a dom".
