So exactly what combo of dom powersets are you playing. You've gotten some good general advice. However, you'd be able to get some very specific and probably more helpful advice it everyone knew what powersets you're currently running with.

For example an Ice/Electric and a Fire/Psi are both strong builds..that play very, very diffrently. One is more on AoE focus will the other is as single target killer.
  2. Grav/Eng would be my vote is must go Grav. I would say focus strongly on your secondary and have lift and your ST hold slotted up in the early levels. However, as said before Grav is very late bloomer with no solid AE control until later game.

If I can suggest Plant/Energy as an odd pairing that works well. Power Boost + Seeds of Confusion gives you early and reliable AoE control. Carrion Creepers is great neutering alphas and taking aggro. The set also does some decent damage. Combined with Energy it works unexpectedly well.
  3. Without knowing which powersets you're playing its impossible to give advice or suggestions. Much like controllers each combination plays very differently. There is not a singular approach that going to work across the board.
  4. Gravity/Psi is a very late blooming combo. Probably the latest to mature of any combo of Dominator Powersets. However, due to the overall changes to psi, its not nearly painful as it used to be.

Wormhole really helps once you get it slotted up, but is very hard to leverage on teams. I'm running a Grav/Psi on the All dom team on pinnacle and have found it hard to use W.H. By the Time I position it the fights started and most of my targets are already dead. Dimension shift I'm finding hard to leverage on teams as well. However, Solo Wormole + Drain Psyche + Psychic Scream is working well. I only imagine that PSW will make it even better. All-in-all this combo just doesn't havent much bite until late in the game, thats my opinion.

I will say that Gravity/Thorn and Gravity/Energy seem to work very well together after the changes. Theres a lot of skippable powers in the primary meanig you can focus on the secondary more. I'm getting along fine using just lift and the single target hold in the early levels.

    Bad Combo?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I was wondering how a mind/energy dominator is. I can tell it'll have awful AoE so it'd be a good choice to pair it with soul mastery. But is Mind control bad at locking things down? Would I really be much help at level 50 on say, a big SF? Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mind/Energy is a great combo. Mind Control is great at locking things down, and in fact is near or at the top for AoE Control overall. Power Boost from Energy further aids this by doubling your durations, which Mind benefits greatly from. On a big SF, such as the LRSF, Mind/Energy is one of the first combos people will go for due to Power Boosted Vengeance and Permadom-Mass Hypnosis. The latter allows you to permanently sleep all 8 Heroes in the final mission, so I'd argue that for big SFs, Mind/Energy is the combo to go for. Energy's AoE isn't actually all that bad if you take Soul Drain and Dark Obliteration, and its ST damage is fantastic since the buffs.

I should be ready to update my guide within a week or so, but since I'm moving soon, I'm experiencing delays.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've also been really successful with my mind/energy (pseudo perma) dom on the ITF. When the fluffies start coming I have several dom + Powerboost mezzes that I can I use for big time crowd control. Sleep, confuse, and Fear all seem to work. Its very nice and a little frenetic. But Mind/Energy has always been a favorite choice for me..even more so now.
  6. Your probably not getting much response, because this build looks pretty solid. You've taken all the key powers, made smart set bonus choices. You also have a very strong Primary and Secondary'; and also have made very good use of Bile Spray's toxic cone.

The only criticism I have is the lack of "total focus" but it looks like you're going for a ranged focused build. So not having TF probably won't be an issue for you. This build also looks like a good pvp/pve hybrid one.
  7. I actually find the end problem resolvable with stamina..and some creative IO slotting. The funny thing making doms more end hungry has perma-dom even more desirable then before.

Its still a bit odd to go from having "no end issues" at all to having to rest between every battle. Especially at low level. The damage trade off is worth it though..but if you've had your dom for awhile re-slotting is a necessity. Its a pain but not insurmountable. But then how many people had multiple high-level villains pre AE? I'm guessing not many. How many had multiple dominators 30+? Even fewer. So yes you'll find hardcore dom players complaining and feeling "nerfed" because they have to adjust play-styles and slotting for toons they've had for years (leveled up the "hard way" I might add). But we're such a small fraction of a small minority (high level villain players) nobody really cares. . Newer players will be thrilled because they don't have old builds to adjust; never experienced /Electric Assault as it was before (or fire for that matter); or the AoE goodness of PSW (which still aint bad). Those players will be confused by vets who grumble about the changes. Doms will seem improved to them..well in fact they are improved but the whole AT has been fundamentally altered. It will die down..until someone comes in and decides doms are now overpowered and starts nerfing the control set powers for us.
  8. I actually think we will get it. "Seismic Smash" that is. Its more ST damage focus. Which seems to be how doms are balanced these days. Lots of big damage, but mostly ST.

    HTTT Reunion?

Sorry I missed out...RL drama to deal with. I'll try to catch up with you guys level wise! .
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Yes, but now Domination can be saved to be used for what it's meant.... to hold the hard targets.

Before it was used when available by myself because I couldn't stand the pew-pew low damage.

Now I actually feel like I can contend in DPS without needing to pop Domination and get tons of IO global rech.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A plant/anything dom....could actually save domination for hard targets ..and perform quite well. That is if they leveraged Seeds of Confusion (especially w/powerboost) to their advantage. That's what were pointing out. Plant/ is damn good primary..and was before the buff. Calling a Plant dom "gimp" pre-change..isn't believable.

However, the bump in performance the OP is noticing is probably due to the fact that /Energy Assault is so freaking amazing now. Like I said before pairing a strong primary like plant with the new energy assault..is probably very awe inspiring. No one is knocking that..Energy Assault is probably the best single target damage set. Not to mention the secondary effects (disorients and kb). There's a lot of varied damage mitigation and damage in that combo.
  11. Earth/Psi, Fire/Psi, or Plant/Psi should satisfy your AOE needs. And yah.. Energy Assault made out like a bandit during the revamp. Psionic Assault is still probably the best dom AOE set. Thorny Assault is also surprisingly good now.
I've not been impressed with Fiery or Electrics AoE ouput.

    LRSF Dom

I'm disagreeing with Talen on this one. Having pulled this off on my mind/energy...power boost is a must. Its one of the reasons I respeced back into it. The Mass Hypnosis Strategy is pretty well laid out on City of Heroes Wiki. Please click the link and check it out.

Granted this strategy was pre-IO's so if you can perma-dom yourself you won't need kin or rad support.

Quite a difference. Just went back to a dom for the first time since the changes. He's a plant/nrg. He used to be so gimped I shelved him permanently (or so I thought) in the mid 30s. Now I picked him up and he is like a god. QUITE the change.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wait a min, so you had a plant dom in the mid 30s and you thought it was gimp? With SoC? With Creepers? With pet? With Bonesmasher? With PB? With TF? And you thought it was gimp? Gimp?

Lol. I'll call you busted unless you were you one of those that saved domination for the end boss types. Or you didn't use confuse because it cost you xp.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was my first thought as well. If you cant make seeds, TF, and bone smasher work pre-buff...I dont know what to say. But after the buff, that combo is probably deadly as heck.

Thats where the "placebo effect" comments are coming from as well. Some of us just aren't buying the "my dom was so weak I couldn't solo a gray-conned minion" crowd. The damage buff certainly helps, but cries of dom weakness pre-buff are greatly, greatly, exaggerated.
  14. All-in-all the changes aren't bad at all. I like them for the most part. Right now I'm trying to find something to pair with energy..and maybe I'll try plant. That much control paired with that much damage...and so early on. Has real potential.
  15. Well to be fair a Plant/Energy would feel very powerful now. Power boosted Seeds of Confusion + a substantial damage increase in the primary and secondary! Of course they'd feel godly.

Just don't be shocked when/if some powers are adjusted down because they were "overperforming". I'm still waiting for the seeds of confusion nerf some players have been calling for.

    Char in 5 slots?

    [ QUOTE ]
I dont earn much money since I largely solo or 3-box. Therefore, I have to play with generics or VERY cheap/common IOs. I will be lucky to afford most of the post I put up. Affording Char is a necessity, since I'll have only 5 slots, and I am lucky to already have the miracle.

If I knew how to make a lot of money villain side, or even hero side, I would.

Its a lot easier to earn money in AE than in the regular game. People think the only way to earn big in AE is by running boring and repetitive farms...ppphhht. Play some hard AE mishes..look for mobs that aren't mez resistant and viola..its ticket time.

Another good funds and drop earner is the "Clean out Crey facility of magical beasties" mission form Tavish Bell. That's available in Ouroboros. You can run that arc and usually get quite a few valuable drops and recipes.
  17. It looks like Sunstorm is responsible for the creation of Earth Assault. He gives some clues in this post about what the set may be like.

Looks like some of us were right on, its going to be a melee heavy set (which I like).
  18. I'd be happy if phased foes would just stop attacking and running around. Since I'm used to using DS and usually team with experienced players, the other issues aren't as bad. I honestly thought this power had an Immobilize component at one time.

I don't think the power needs to be changed whole cloth to something else. Just:

    1. Add an immobilize, placate, or hold effect for PVE only. The phase shift to phase shift battles that can happen in PVP are fine. They don't apply particuarly well in PVE though.

    2. If it can somehow be made blatantly obvious that phase shifted characters in PVE are phased. Can they float, glow, or become completely untargetable? Again for PVE only. I think Phase Shift works fine in PVP and should be left alone for those purposes.

    /NRG changes

If you solo a lot, I find power boost invaluable. Your holds last longer, it boosts all the leadership powers. Power boost plus aid self, is a great "oh crap don't let me die" power. Power boost turns any dom primary into a power house. Some don't like it, but for a soloist, its gold.
  20. I have a lvl 30 Bots/Traps MM and I really like her. Yes even with the the nerf to poison trap, the combo works well and is fun.

So I want a traps corruptor. I have an Ice/Traps at lvl 18 but he seems a little lacking and I can't seem to make the combo work as well as I'd like. I'm looking at the guides and theres not much /Traps info for corruptors. Any suggestions on what damage primary is most synergistic with Traps?
  21. The Lockdown +2 mag hold proc seems to do very, very well in poison trap. I have it in my bots traps and I'm fairly happy. The proc goes off often, its great to see an entire mob stunned in those little electric bubbles.

If they tweak defender traps appropriately to justify it as a primary..I'm rolling one. The set has potential to make a very nice solo defender. I'm not so sure about AR though.

    /NRG changes

The only power I wouldn't skip is Power Push. It hits really hard now. Whirling Hands is still skippable, but if you must have an AOE its not bad. Power Boost definitely helps Ice out by increasing its slows.

Going for an all ranged build is viable. But I like Bone Smasher and Total Focus. All-in-all the entire energy set is good. Energy made out the best of all the sets during the revamp. You honestly can pick or skip any powers you want in the set and not be gimped. (within reason)

    Bad Combo?

Mind/Energy...is a very good combo now. Plus with powerboost + Domination + mass hypnosis you can sleep (keep slept) and entire room of AVS. I've done it and theres nothing like controlling aggro like that.

Plus energy has turned from the a "bottom of the barrel" secondary into probably the best secondary. You just can't go wrong here.
  24. If relying on ST damage. Energy and Electric.

However with Fire/Thorns/Energy, everything is dead to fast to care. I fine Mind/Thorns just awesome and AIM + Domination turns mind into a monster of a primary. I work around the DOT issues with thorns by being careful not to use any Cones until necessary (if I'm relying on sleeps and soloing). Otherwise I just go for it.
