You know..Gun Drone seems like a much more appropriate power to have than the Time bomb. Of course if we could get that nice "Big Bot" from the MM robotics set, now that would be great. Yes I know, impossible, but it's a nice fantasy.

Quote:Yes...yes...and yes.I'd rather see one of:
1) more direct mitigation (def, res, health)
2) faster recharging Placate
3) more debuffing in powers
than a "t9" power that doesn't even conceptually fit.
Oh, and you'll be prying Elude from my Night Widow's arsenal over my dead body. Especially not for a freaking damage aura. You've got to be kidding.
A faster recharging placate on a Bane would be very nice to see. I am bummed that Banes don't seem to have a true Tier 9 type power... -
Quote:Okay, I finally teamed with a traps defender. I was on my newly made lvl 18ish forcefield defender. I loved the compatibility between the traps and force field. His debuffs, and ffg gave us a deffinate edge on the battlefield. We had exceptionally good defense and this lead to our triumph over about 5 missions. Overall I was very impressed with my first encounter of a traps defender.
As I've been leveling my trapper in the evenings (after work), I've been running him on small teams. I find that many people are suprised by both the defense and debuffs a trapper brings. On many teams I've been the sole source of defender level type debuffs. I do find great synergy being teamed with a FF or Dark defender. Darks controls, -to hit, and debuffs mesh very nicely. And with a Force Fielder, welcome to a team of Tanks...LOL. -
I know people complain alot about potential redraw. But ignite, oil slick, and flame thrower..just sounds very nice.

Having female minions would require players behaving with some restraint, decency, and good sense. As we've seen from AE, that's unlikely to happen.

Quote:Can an Emp buff his Voltaic Sentinel? And if so does that make the pet pretty good?I've been saying these things for years now. Good to see another voice confirming it. I love my Endurance Drain, it's even easier with the protection of Personal Force Fields between Short Circuit blasts. Lets ME control when I decide to fight - which is always when they're drained, heh.
By the way, Voltaic Sentinel is my best friend. I love him. Especially considering that he keeps blasting on the rare occasion that I'm slept or mezzed. -
Quote:Pretty much in agreement here. Soloing an Empathy defender sort of defeats the purpose of rolling one doesn't it? If you want to mez protection for yourself, Sonic, Traps, & Force Field all provide mez protection to the caster...(Traps gives you a floating defense bubble, with mez protection at level 8). There problem solved...you have three primaries that will give you reliable mezz protection.
The defenders that can't do those things add more to a team than a scrapper will ever add. Soloing an Empathy/Energy is an exercise in frustration, but why are you soloing an Empathy Defender in the first place? 2/3rds of their primary powers are useless with no teammates. -
If DS were single target, like sonic cage..we wouldn't be having this discussion. Sonic Cage is useful, because you can target a troublesome foe and take her/him out of the fight for a bit. DS has caused me frustration, mostly because its a bit random..I'm never sure if I'm going to roll snake eyes and miss everyone or get lucky and take out an entire mob. On a team with lots of -DEF or +To Hit its actually troublesome to use..as it can phase out an entire mob.
After playing a few Grav toons I have a few ideas on different ways DS could work:
1. Make it a Single Target control, much like S.C.
2. Make it an Ally buff..I.E you can phase shift yourself and your team mates.
3. Add a Stun (or fear) component, so mobs are slightly disoriented after coming back to reality.
I'd be happy with any one of these.... -
It's too bad some of the old threads have been lost. I recall some threads touting Fire/Thorns as one of the more damaging dom combos. /Psi is probably the best..but after the buffs /Thorns should be a very close second (for aoe). Maybe you can post your build or power picks so far..so we can see what may be the issue. I know I wouldn't skip AIM on a Thorny as it boasts accuracy and damage. And Flashfire is must for Fire/ Dommies.
If you're truly disappointed you could always go for a Fire/Energy dom. Very strong single target attacks, with stuns, plus power boost upping your Primary..could be helpful. And maybe provide the fast pace you're looking for. -
I like this PGT talk...makes me happy. I love this set..its easily the most soloable defender I've ever played. Also thanks for the "plain english" explanation of the numbers involving PGT it helps alot.
So it seems to me that /Traps has been a more soloable defender I've played..maybe even more so than rad. The debuffing goodness, backed up by mez protection and defense really seem to make a difference. -
I have a few /Psi doms varying from a 50 Fire/Psi Perma to a lvl 26 Grav Psi on just SO's. My perma, doesn't notice any end usage issues. Sometimes endurance runs out before Dom refills it..but that's rare..and usually because I haven't been paying attention.
My lower lvl /Psi Doms, notice the changes and suffer from them the most. Even after Drain Psyche. Pretty much picking up (and slotting) stamina helps. Even after that carrying blues helps somewhat. The end cost issues were brough up in test and we never really received official word on if they'd be adjusted. /Psi is still pretty much the best AoE set Doms get access too..so I think this is being used to justify the overall end cost. It does make sense..I don't like it..but there you have it. Also with or without perma a Fire/Psi is rolling machine of death, so most people won't be sympathetic to any complaints you may have about the changes. I know..I've been that route already. -
You can't argue with this part here. More than any other power that a defender gets a "Disruption Field" is going to synch up with well with a teleporting/nuking scrapper. Sure any of the primarys would work well, but that debuff and the resistance shields are going to make for your wife's scrapper a super tough, debuffing wall of death...

Quote:I have found one minor annoying thing about the set; it seems to make mobs run away like crazy, and once they're out of the slows, they'll run halfway across the map. I had to chase Nocturne all over the place last night. I assume the panic is due to a combination of the Afraid effect on the caltrops, the DoT, and the -recharge preventing mobs from queuing attacks.
Of course, it's not all bad, since it supplies part of your mitigation--every fleeing mob is one that's not attacking you. Still, the scattering effect and the fact that the mobs run out of your debuffs isn't ideal, so I try to use the knockback from my AR attacks to toss them back into the trapzone.
I'm finding that not as bad an issue on my Traps/Dark. Tenebrous Tentacles keep everyone in place. But its not perfect. I notice teleporting and flying enemies (I'm looking at you TSOO!) are really a pain for me. But most other mobs I can keep controlled and in debuff patch. -
IMHO, not at all. At my guess you would put the team near the soft cap of defense..all by yourself (I'm guessing about 25-27%). I'm actually taking the full leadership pool on my trapper. The leadership buffs, plus traps buffs and debuffs, should make for a very team friendly toon.

Quote:It's fantastic insanity! A lot of people forget about stacking buffs/debuffs. Defenders, when running solo or as the only 'fender on a team, aren't extremely relevant, usually, but they become massively relevant when you stack a few of the same type together.
I'm finding this very true with my new Traps/Dark. By pure luck I've been running on teams with 2 (or more) traps defenders. I haven't seen anything like this since the VEATs hit redside. Two trappers with FFG and the average PUG improves significantly. At level 16 the stacking debuffs, and defense is extremely efficient. I don't have Hero Stats (my computer hates it..and wont run it). But I wish I did, so I could see exactly what the numbers are, and by how the teams kill rate bumps up when 2+ trappers join. -
Quote:I'm no set bonus expert...but I think Grav/Energy isn't a bad choice either. Grav has lots of skippable powers leaving you open to slot the heck out of energy. Also some nice damage and secondary effects from its immobilizes and hold. I've played around with grav/energy to around lvl 35...and while its a slow start...it really does feel like a highly survivable blaster once you get the pet.I confess I'm leaning towards Fire over Mind for a few reasons:[list][*] I want to take as much of /Energy as I can and so much of Fire is skippable
Plant/Energy..also has some very interesting possibility. Really, energy is such a strong set now..its hard to think of any primary it wont work with. -
Sorry I missed the wrap up. But after over a year of being unemployed I landed a job. The hours are long though, so I[ve not had much time for gaming. Gratz to all those who made it 50 though..amazing job.
-
Plant/Psi is almost scrapper like in it's ability to handle large spawns. You have a tool for every situation and the damage to back it up.
Really any combo of Earth/ or Plant, with /Psi or /Fire is going to give you the AoE control and damage you are looking for. -
Quote:Ding right on the money. And to be fair on the OP, I'm running a Grav dom on the All dom team with him and a few others. The presence of Earth and Thorny doms with their massive -def makes dimension shift problematic to use. (and I would guess this would be the case on any team that has hefty amounts of -def or maybe even +To hit). When used on this team my unslotted DS shifts the entire mob. And that mob then runs around playing out its attack and attack response animations....its all very confusing. Meaning I dropped the power as soon as I could and picked up assault.I was testing dimension shift earlier today, the worst thing about it is the mobs affected still do attack animations and their target does response animations. For people unfamiliar with what DS does how the heck are your team mates supposed to remeber not to attack shifted foes in the heat of battle?
In the end I decided to respec it out like most people do
Now I do understand that DS has its uses in PVP and I wouldn't want it to be nerfed for those players using it. It's also not a bad bit of damage control while soloing. However its a disruptive power on teams. Something should be done with it especially with all the "making doms more popular" bruhahah that's been going on lately. -
Quote:What a perma held HERO class enemy?!?!?! You obviously faked this! Here's video of our pwnage of Posi. Poor fool should've just let us take the money. It's federally insured.
Sorry I missed getting Posi bank..but going after Lord Recluse was lots of fun. Go..go..Dominators! -
Quote:I highly reccomend Mind/Thorny its a very solid set. Plant Thorn is very fun and can work team or solo. But the mind/thorny feel is very "scrappery" if you ask me. It will be fun from level 1-50...don't skip: Skewer, Impale, Ripper, and Thorn Barrage are all heavy hitting attacks now. Levitate, Dominate, and Confuse will give you a pretty solid chain of control in the early levels. (Mesmerize is nice too if you plan on taking on lots of EB/AVS). Honestly, right now I have a lvl 30ish mind/thorny who just has generic IO's and even with no set bonuses he's a blast. Slotting Kinetic Crash in Thorn Barrage and Ripper is a cheap way to get about 15% +recharge if you're going that route. Or maybe think about slotting the -resist from Achilles Heel and the "chance for negative energy damage" from Lady Gray's set. Lots of ways to slot..but really you just cant go wrong here..play around on mids and see what suits you best. Here lately I have been creating multiple heroes that I use for various purposes, and most of which have been because I haven't seen very many on Virtue server. I was wanting to make a */Thorny Assault dominator and I was wonder which would be better for a mostly solo person with a decent amount of teaming (I would say 69% of the time solo 31% of the time on teams) Mind Control or Plant Control. So can anyone help me......Just a little more info to help out the advice coming in: I have around 200-300mil infamy to spend on this build and I would like it to be fun from level 1 to level 50.

This is a silly arugment..when People can actually generate Ice Bolts and Create Fire Imps guys..it may be worthwhile..but until then, not so much.
All in all a "whips and chains" domi might be cool if the whips did energy or electric damage. Don't the weapons that "Dominatrix" and her minions use do electric damage. But more relistically I'd like to see Doms get a mixed assualt set of Dual Pistols and Martial Arts. Some hitting melee with respecful ranged damage and maybe a decent cone. Would be the perfect Gung-Fu dominator. I bet it be a popular set. -
Huh...
Quote:NEW POWER: Energize
60% Endurance discount for 30 seconds.
468 hp heal unenhanced at level 50.
100% Regeneration Increase for 30 seconds.
Recharge time 120 seconds.
Looks to me like a completely NEW power with a NEW name replaced a power in an existing set. Conserve Power still exists right, even if only in the Epic/Patrons? But Energize didn't exist before, that would make it new. Also I don't remember Conserve Power having a heal and Regen increase. How is that "the same power doing what did before just less.."
Someones wrong here..but it aint DC. -
Quote:Did you pick up Psychic Scream for the Psi dom. I'm finding it an invaluable and very useful cone attack now. I've actually always used it so it proved to not be a huge playstyle change on my perma dom.
2) Shifting attacks away from PSW due to its longer recharge now ST favors the ice dom because those powers are slightly better slotted than the fire dom's? dom's. Or because PSW isn't hitting as often, the dmg procs and confusion dmg from AA is.
I'll post the individual attack stats after I've collected the info and organized it.
EDIT: gotta figure out how to make lists with this new system
I also just recently slotted it up on my grav/psi. Psychic Scream does a noticeable amount of damage now. I don't have hero stats..but I be curious to see someones numbers on it.
