  2. Well, it's not limited to my computer (my boyfriend's computer has the same issue), or the wireless connection (it happens while plugged in to the router).

    Hmm. I'm guessing it still has to be something fairly local to me, or else there'd be a whole bunch of people screaming how they couldn't patch their game for DXP.

    Anyone have any bright ideas as to what could cause a consistent file error while patching? Router, perhaps? It's now stuck at textMisc.pigg, saying the file length matches but the hash doesn't. Alternatively, is there some way of downloading the full client directly, instead of trying to patch it through the launcher?

    System/network info:
    =========
    * Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS
    * 2GHz Intel Core Duo
    * 4GB RAM
    * Belkin F5d7230-4 router
    * ADSL2 internet through Telstra Bigpond

    Yet there is the risk you can't patch. I 'm facing that kind of problem with sound.pigg when trying to reinstall from scratch, so be careful.
    I did uninstall everything. Unfortunately, that's where I am now. I did manage to get it partially patched simply by clicking repair every time it glitched, and eventually it would get the correct version of a file. However, it's now stuck on one of the texMisc.pigg and no amount of getting it to redownload the file will get a valid copy.

    Yeah. Can't say I'm fond of it at the moment though.
  4. No suggestions?

    I opened a support ticket and have been going through various steps with them trying to work out the problem. Even firing up Windows in Safe Mode with Networking didn't help. Still the same error about a corrupted file (same size but different hash).

    Does anyone know if it's possible to download the entire client directly instead of using the patcher? I wonder if the patcher is getting the wrong version of the file, like EU vs NA or something.
  5. I've been trying for most of the day to get my CoH working. I tried to let it update earlier today (it was up to date not counting the update on the 8th August), but the launcher kept stopping at various points stating that a file was corrupted and recommending a reinstall or repair. I attempted several repairs with no improvement, so I decided to uninstall / reinstall the game.

    At various points it has come back with the same error, other it has just kept redownloading the same patch (a file marked 20110713). So far it has downloaded about 28GB of data.

    Help! Is anyone else having these problems? My game was running perfectly fine a few days ago, and it'd be really good if I could get it working again in time for DXP.

    I have a log file saved, but it's too long to post all of. Let me know if any particular parts are useful to help diagnose the problem.

    I appreciate any suggestions.

    I know why the change was done. I wanted to know if they'd fix the AI so that they could benefit from +Recharge without using nothing but brawl.
  7. Will Mastermind pets be changed so they can benefit from the +Recharge in this set?
  8. Fire armor could really use a serious update. My Elec/Fire brute (whose powers are all tinted pale yellow/pale red) currently looks as though he's been dipped in a cotton candy machine when he's all armored up. Not very flamey at all.

    Agreed. I've never been a big fan of these. I can understand why people from games that do use them would like them, but it'd be great if they could be turned off for those of us who prefer the more subtle contacts.

    Woohoo! I love me some dommies! New powersets are always welcome!

    (Please please please be dark control/dark assault! I love dark powers almost as much as I love doms!)
  12. I may as well add my opinion that I posted in another thread. It was formed after seeing how powerful and desirable to a team the VEATs are.

    And yes, I [nth] the proposal for Solar Flare to become a knockdown power. I don't have problems with any other PB powers doing knockback, but a radial knockback power is just silly. Besides, it is basically a Foot Stomp clone, and didn't that used to be KB and was changed because it was irritating (or was that just the Thugs Bruiser's version?)
  13. I have no real suggestions to make to PBs to improve them per se (except to note than when I play my PB -- who is a lot of fun, mind you -- she basically just feels like a sub-par blaster, scrapper and tank all rolled into one without any real strengths or differences from other ATs like the WSs have).

    I suspect they do that because people would whine and complain if female characters had significantly more costume options than male characters. Women can wear many male clothes without raising an eyebrow, but the same can't be said for men wearing female clothing.

    (Not that I'd be one of those whining and complaining, but still)

  16. I'd love to see spectral / light wings, perhaps similar to the current Vanguard glowy weapons. I'd especially love it if there weren't there all of the time, but only sprouted out of the character's shoulders when flight / hover was toggled on (or at least have the option to do so).

    Wings of pure flame, lightning or ice might be popular too.

    Oh, and add me to the list of people wanting a VFX-less Hasten!

    EDIT: I'd also like to see more... sparse / pared down versions of a lot of the current auras (like you have the light / heavy option on the Sparkles aura). Many of them are awesome, but I often find them too much for anything other than combat use.

    EDIT 2: I also agree that the fire options could all use an update. It'd be nice for my Elec/Fire brute to not look like he's covered in fairy floss when I toggle all of his (light-coloured) fire armors on!

    Interesting. Is this confirmed (i.e. mentioned in game), or just speculation?

    I hope it's a different group. The enemies in TCS have been using Shivans as scouts, and all but decimated the Kheldians (for use as ship fuel!). That points to an extraterrestrial origin. It would be rather anticlimactic if it all turned out to be "Evil Statesman".

    You're not waiting in Ouroborus, are you? I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the LFG feature won't pick you up from there.

    And the second does the same but first strips all IOs from your characters and distributes them to random people logged in at the time? I like it.

    True enough. Although, as someone else points out down (up?) thread, he can change it to something more meaningful for him afterwards.

    Honestly though, I don't see what the problem is. Paragon is worried about data corruption... fair enough (although that does lead me -- as a database developer -- to question what their data structures are like for this to be an issue, but I digress). However, it seems more likely that the source of this potential data corruption would be the account rename, not the globals, since there is already a mechanism in-game for us to change globals and that doesn't corrupt anything.

    So, since nobody seems to be complaining about the account names, why not keep the account name changes as planned, but do the global names differently (whether by wiping both EU and NA globals and letting whoever logs in first nab the one they want, or whether judging who gets to keep what by some sort of active/veteran priority system)?

    At least "GadgetDonEU" won't be such a stretch for people to correlate back with you

Playing badly doesn't make anyone a unique snowflake, and nobody's proving anything by doing end-game content with a trash build.

    When you're leader of the team, and it's a non-trivial task you're trying to organize, exercise your authority to pick and choose your teammates. If they get turned down from enough stuff they want to do because of their lack of skill, maybe they'll change. More likely though, they'll just slither into another team and leach off them instead.

    Because after all, remember their war-cry, "it's my $15 and I'll play how I want!!1" ... without a care in the world that they're worsening everyone ELSE's paid-for playtime.
    And here I was thinking this was a satirical post the first time I read it.

    Sure, grabbing those 3 extra powers can make a build better. But pretty much ANY build, presumably except for those made by the hardcore min/maxing number crunchers, can be made better in some respect. As far as I'm concerned, if you're effective at whatever your role is, that's all that matters.
