Just for the record, the literary technique is called Chekhov's gun, from Anton Chekhov.
I agree with both variations on the quote, but I think the developers had it so down pat that it really only should be used at this point for tricking people. What if we spent four missions hearing about how great Mistah B was, then got to the fifth mission, and Mistah B was only the second-in-command to his daddio, Mistah Big Stuff? -
Off topic, but I take notes on CoX by having a special tab that only tracks tells and sending myself tells with notes. I don't have an SG and I never team so it's pretty rare when I get tells, but if you do talk a lot, then you could do it with emotes.

They wouldn't be targeting a player, they'd be targeting the enemies in the other group which wouldn't count as players, so $name gets no value back and just shows up as that. You'll have to imply that they're talking about the player "For our magnificent leader!" 'For the valiant hero!" "For our valiant savior!" so and so forth.
-
You could just make a few variations on the group name. Take for instance... The Skulls, Skulls, Skull
If they are made up of a single mob, just use the mob name, like Skulls Initiate. The character limit might get in the way with like The Circle Of Thorns, but it is helpful in most scenarios. -
I find that in the "My Published Arcs" section, if you click Clear on the search tab, then Search Again, the changes you've made will show up quicker.
That might just be perception though, since doing that gives me something to do and makes time pass. -
I have to say, celery stalker sounds funny.

I always find it funny that words like god, christ, christmas, and jesus are filtered anything to do with christianity is filtered yet we don't have a problem with embracing other religions. Not trying to bring my religion to the forums but I think its only fair that other religious terms and names be censored if my own is that offending...
[/ QUOTE ]
In regards to those relatively specific to Christianity (Jesus exists in all Abrahamic religions, and the ideal of a Christ is also exists in them, just for the record.) those terms are banned not due to being offensive, but because they can be used to offend. You have to be really semantical to get offended by your religion being protected... -
While, not a fan of onions, I wouldn't really say that a corruption of the a Native American language's word for onions is that offensive.
You can't remove the power from words because the power doesn't exist in the words, it exists in the power people give to them. Some random guy wanting to be able to a racial slur doesn't make it not one.
The British term for a smoke is derived from a term used to refer to elderly widows that had to make a living collecting bundles of sticks called a term we all know, they were called "******-gatherers" and soon the second portion was dropped and the phrase for the bundle of sticks remained, it became a term for doing hard-work with little benefit, and along the way also became a negative term for homosexual men. It was shortened again and became a term for smokes. It's not like the evolution of the phrase was divergent and it isn't a widely accepted phrase or one used in polite company. It is a term used by British individuals typically called "chavs" and speaks more of their ill-nature then anything else. It is also used by people to create arguments for more freely allowing the usage of offensive terms.
Personally, I find it enjoyable to spank myself with a baseball bat while having my hair up in pigtails, it isn't a good hobby, and I don't find it particularly offensive, but someone would, everyone in particular. You can't use your standard alone to judge the value or importance of words, that is where sympathy or at least empathy comes into play.
I'm gonna guess that you are a straight, white man, y'know, the thing that has been in power for the vast majority of human history. Your family and racial history likely doesn't contain anything to instill a sense of respect, fear or contempt for any words or patterns, and so you don't have any of that, but other people do. -
I've never encountered that, but they could simply accomplish that by having extremely limited spawn points on the map in question. If there is only one spot for collect items to be placed, they won't move from it.

Cracker is a racist term when applied to a Caucasian. It is a vulgar term because it is used to demean another based off the amount of melanin present at the time of interaction. It is a word that is banned because of that meaning.
It isn't the power that individuals give words that matter, it is the power that people give words. That is the problem with that argument that has always bothered me. You would hate the word "cracker" if it had at one point, denied your ancestors or relatives of not the ability to eat overly cooked biscuits but their very humanity, the ability to be recognized as human. It is the power that people, as groups give words that allowed words to create situations such as the rampant black slavery in early American history, the subsequent subjugation and mistreatment that followed down to even the Shoah, and countless other genocides.
Words can't just be words because words have power, we need to respect them and hide the ones that have been burnt, ruined and turned to something worse then words should be allowed to. So, that word you don't think is all that bad, that is just a word, could easily make you less then human tomorrow, make you something horrible and soulless, to be feared, like a conservative. -
It doesn't limit your ability to write anything beyond the word "god" It's not like they've banned action verbs, they banned a single word of which there are a multitude of replacements for.
The developers are allowed to use the word because there is little doubt that anything that makes it to live or even beta testing is in the best interests of the game/continued financial success, the same cannot be said of the player base. The developers are also presumably free to use words like "ultimate" and "gambit" the players are not, because we don't need to be able to and being able to would only serve to create more work.
As for those of that are using this as a basis for mocking religion in general, it is far more likely that they banned the word on account of the word that people tend to like to follow it with. The recognizability of the word and generally non-censored nature of it make it a key element of many replacements for the G.D curse.
I don't like genuine censorship but this isn't a First Amendment issue, it's a private forum and a private game we pay for the ability to play, they could ban action verbs if they wanted to and it'd be perfectly within their rights, I hope they won't, but y'know. -
You just know if they hadn't, people would be complaining and demanding the freedom to use the African-American racially inclined word.

Nice use of colours in the introduction text, see no errors in it.
Rarely used map, good choice. Really glad to see non-custom enemies. I'm giving you an extra star for mentioning Lawrence Welk.
Awesome premise for the second mission, great fun too, and again, no grammatical or spelling errors I saw. I gave you five stars. I completed this on a level 9/10 Spines/Regeneration Scrapper. -
That really sucks, now I have to have stupid custom critters in my arc.

Class doesn't change behavior, just how many powers they get.
Why would we want a type of make-up as a class? Is there something I'm missing? Why would only something that wears make-up kill its teammates? Are you being sexist? Not cool, man! -
I think each map has, let's say 6 spawn points for each setting. That's 6 for Front, 6 for Back and 6 for Middle, and Middle shares 1 or 2 spawn points with Front and Back, perhaps with the exception of very large maps, so there's always a chance your stuff will spawn much closer to the front or the back then you intend.

I'm guessing you love it when people use Group Fly on you and that you leave your teammate Teleport prompt disabled.
I'm also guessing most players hate it when you take away control of their characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
How would this take away control? It would be an optional tool to enhance immersion, that's it. If Arachnos captured Captain Ketchup, why would they leave him dressed as Captain Ketchup? Why not strip him down, humiliate him? For some hero's, the superhero identity is the identity, by denying them that, they weaken them psychologically.
What about people that rely on gadgets or costumes for their abilities? How on Earth could they reasonably think allowing them to keep them was a good idea? That's a hero example, what about a villain that got arrested? Would they be allowed to prance about in a mechanized suit or would they be put into an orange jumpsuit?
All I suggested was another tool to let us better tell stories, I don't want the power to spoil your game by turning you into a giant purple dinosaur, I want to offer the opportunity for you to be dressed appropriately. -
I'm not talking about like The Blob fat, I'm talking about slightly overweight, a little padding around the mid section and back. The Blob fat would be a lot of work, too much work for a niche appeal. People/characters like that carry themselves differently, walk differently and move differently on account of gravity tugging on them, Blob fat would require a whole new body type, not clothing like Ted Kord, and a whole new body type is a lot to ask for, especially since there is still only one body type for females, and speaking of females, it may even call for two new body types, so that is a lot to ask for.

Anyone stumbled on any good TRULY villanious story arcs?
That's my only complaint as seaoned villain side player.
I haven't found any REALLY villanious arcs. Surely it's sujective, but all this time I haven't seen anything that would be that evil ( Westin Phipps was great). Most of the time I just end up fighting other villains or just some totally irrelevant custom hero group without doing anything evil or atleast feeling like a villain.
So, anyone seen any?
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been planning a three mission arc wherein the first mission, you've been hired by an anti-vigilante extremist to sneak into a place where they've been holding newly born magical and mutant babies and push the kid's self-destruct buttons so they don't grow up to be heroes, but I thought it'd would be too evil, even for villains, plus, I'm a role-player on Virtue and I didn't want to offend someone that plays a morally negligent but not evil villain.
Maybe I should work on it, if people actually want to be evil villains.
Note - Self-destruct button is my favorite term for fontanelles. -
I think the biggest issue may very well be the fact that the Ultimate universe is the worse thing to happen to comic books since Frank Miller, and the developers are only trying to protect us from the insanely bad taste of someone that would enjoy them enough to rip them off.
I salute you, developers! Now can we ban "Dark Horse" and "Grant Morrison" Please? Pretty please? -
The cargo ship maps are literally a straight line if you pick the right one. Though, bit of a warning, if you have collection tasks, the items can spawn on top of shipping crates, which is a bit annoying.
-
I think he was referring to more the Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, Brad Pitt, Simon Cowell people.
It is my understanding that you can't have an NPC named Paris Hilton or one named Haris Pilton or some such obvious parody, but you could parody the stereotype that she represents without issue. Frenchie Linossi, the daughter of the Italian shipping magnate became famous for her blatant refusal to wear underpants in public, and accidental revelation that her father supplied pro-Rikti forces with money and goods.
You get the point across without causing issue. -
Ted Kord as the Blue Beetle is an example of a serious hero that is of a greater weight then it is possible to portray using the current options.
He has a hard time maintaining a fit body, and becomes pudgy on occasion. -
I think it'd be a simple matter of a mostly transparent brown overlay on the screen, could actually just be a part of the HUD if done in that manner, which would be possible and as a non-programmer, I'd say easy. You'd want the inherent loss of detail since the whole point of sepia is to make it resemble old photographs, but I think that the enemy displays might be affected, I'm not sure.
It'd make all outside maps look like Croatoa to some extent though, which might be awkward. -
Honestly, I really wouldn't like that. I don't team, it's just not what I do. I can't handle random people relying on me. But, if I'm on Mission 3 of 4, and I've really enjoyed them so far, when I get to an elite boss I can't beat. I want to give them a good grade, they've deserved it and they shouldn't be punished because of my misanthropic nature.
