I tend to subscribe to the theory that "the dominator's best defense is the other guy being a pinata"...but sure...i'll play along.
I would say that Plant/ would also be a decent choice for damage, too. You may lose hot feet and bonfire, but you'd gain Carrion Creepers and Seeds of Confusion. Bonus is these 2 powers would help keep aggro off of you, and when combined with the 31% m/r/a defenses, would signifigantly reduce any incoming damage. Between having Fly trap, CC, spamming aoe immobies, /earth's (admittedly limited) aoe, and any APP/PPP aoe should ensure you still keep a good xp/inf gain (assuming your concerned with xp...a la you're not 50 yet). Fly Trap can slot DefDebuff sets...so its possible to slam a Heel proc in it. -Res=more damage.
If, even after, all the "stuff not paying much attention to you after SoC and CC", you still want more def...then ML is probably the better option than the Mace shield...since defense is going to kick in on the higher number. That means then not only would you be trying to build for m/r/a, but also s/l...which could cut into any +rech your slotting for. This would put you in a bit of a bad way on 2 fronts. /earth loves it some +rech as its not the quickest set around. Faster recharge on /earth means you're pumping out damage faster...and given how hard /earth hits...yeah. And 2...makes it tougher to hit perma-dom/hasten levels...assuming that you're aiming for this. But...for the sake of it...31% defense coupled with stuff not paying you attention...that's probably sufficient for most content.
Just my thoughts... -
If it ain't broke...don't fix it.
If its broke...fix it.
If you can't fix it...replace it.
If you can't replace it...find someone else that can tell if its broke. -
Don't feel too bad. I did the same thing a while back ago with Scare from the blaster secondary mental manip. I have a psi/mm blaster so...yeah. heh

I rather like SM. For me...hitting some poor slob with a biggazz rock hammer is just shmexy. I've got a 50 SM/WP brute that's just started down Incarnate Road (right now just has a t1 agility)...but he was a joyride for me. He's also still my only toon that can handle at least 0/+8 missions...tho not all mobs need apply. Spiders and Carnies give me hell. And Cimmies....they hurt.

Quote:Defensive Sweep grants both melee defense and smashing defense. Granted, the flat out melee defense is a bit more helpful if paired with something like SR. Still, depending on the mobs, the smashing defense boost can't be 100% discounted.Im going to disagree since Energy is typed def, and TW offers melee def. TW is better paired with SR for effortless melee softcap, or a res set that has a damage aura and can really benefit from the added melee deense
I have a TW/Energy brute...and for the most part he's pretty durable concidering he's not running any IO sets yet. -

Actually...i think that shadow fall would work with GI since unlike SI its a clickie power and not a toggle. Shadow Fall and Superior Invisiblity are mutually exclusive because they are toggles. You can't stack one stealth TOGGLE with another one. If GInvis couldn't be used, then someone that had Grant Invisiblity couldn't invis you, either. But...they can.

While I can't speak for end-game, itrial stuff, I can tell you that /Earth is a beast, particularly in melee. I've got a level 43 Earth/Earth dom...and the assault set definitely makes up for lack of primary damage...and you can't get much lighter on damage than the earth control set.
The AoE isn't anything spectacular, but it's workable. Tremor is OK, I guess. Jumping double hammerfist animation a la total focus and thunderstrike and damage isn't bad, though not the greatest, but a high chance to KD whatever it hits...so pretty good mitigation there. Fissure is also pretty decent damage on a dommy...a bit more than Tremor, with a quicker animation, a bit less endurance, and slightly faster recharge. It also has a fairly decent chance to kd and stun (latter of which is affected by domination).
ST damage is where /earth shines, specifically in melee range. The 2 mallet attacks and seismic smash put out some serious numbers...for a dom. Seismic in particular is a massive heavy hitter. I've nearly one-shotted even conning minions with this bad boy...and it's only got 2 common damage IO's in it.
It's a bit lacking in the range dept. though, with only Stone Spears and Hurl Boulder as your options. Stone spears, while not the highest damage attack you have, puts out some decent numbers, but is a great tool for mitigation with it's 80% chance to KU it's target. Most people seem to hate Hurl Boulder because of the long animation. Personally...DPA/DPS be damned...there's just something i like about a dommy ripping up a biggass rock and tossing it at some poor slob's face (tho i did respec out of this with my brute). Epic. But...I'm not one of those min/max if it doesn't do over 9000 DPA then it's not worth my time kinda peoplez. YMMV.
I ended up with the Cold Mastery APP so that i could pick up Sleet for the -res debuff. Combined with /earth's already high damage, things just fall down even faster. Always a plus. -
Quote:Hmmm...gimme a second....You ARE good! Hmm I have a fire/kinetics controller whose special effect is all about doing fire out of kinetic energy -- agitating molecules so that things burst into flame. How do I explain the imps?
...
...
...
Subconciously controlled, telekinetic manifestations of your psyche. Similar to your other, seemingly fire-based, abilities, the extreme intensity of the fields they generate causes the surrounding molecules of air to vibrate at high speeds. The resulting friction this generates causes large amounts of heat and some actual combustion of oxygen in the immediate area around them.
....How's that?

Can't wait until we get Psi Melee, I can relive the 90's in style. -
The only powers in grav that are a liiiittle hard to explain as TK, at least ENTIRELY, are propel and dimension shift. Sure..the TK part works with the actual tossing of whatever random object you just "propelled"...but the whole "where in the nine levels of hades did you get a freakin JUNK CAR to chuck at somebody...IN AN OFFICE BUILDING!?". ...Yeah...a bit tougher.
And of course...dimension shift. "I used my powerful telekinetic abilities to cause the stuff in that area over there to be a step out of reality and therefore insubstantial to the outside world."
....Although...now that i think about it...I could come up with something for that. Powerful TK field that prevents interaction between anything inside and outside said field. ...MAN i'm good! LOL
Wormhole. Easy peasy. "I just tossed those poor slobs over there. They just moved so fast you couldn't see them." -
Quote:...Seriously...WHY would you wanna do this? The new assassin's focus mechanic to build yourself up to a garunteed MASSIVE critical offers far better better results than placate>AS in the middle of a fight from a dps standpoint. Sure...the placate>AS may beat out that crit damage in raw power, but it seriously slows down your overall damage output. The average AS from hidden animation is what...somewhere in the range of 3 seconds...give or take AND it can be interrupted. A mid combat AS is on average a second or less (heck...KM's AS mid fight is literally a "blink and you'll miss it") and can't be stopped.Fight enemy. Placate. AS. In the middle of AS, CoF ticks and reveals us, removing hidden status and fouling up AS. <-- is this a problem?
Personally...i rarely ever used placate much at all to begin with. Mainly just to hit hidden real fast when running from one group to the next and i didn't wanna wait till hide kicked in. Now...that'll probably be about the ONLY reason i'll use it....unless i'm getting seriously hammered by something and need to get him off of my butt so i can go recover a bit...and that's assuming it doesn't freakin bug out on me or DoT doesn't monkey wrench me.
PS: And this is coming from someone who isn't all "UGUUU MAXIMUM DPS MUST KILL EVERYTHING IN 3 SECONDS OR LESS OR IT DOESN'T COUNT AND I GET ALL >.< GRR ARGH MAD AND STUFF BECAUSE I DIDN'T KILL EVERYTHING IN 3 SECONDS OR LESS UGUUU" ....guy. -

I'd probably go for the damage. Even at base duration on his holds and immobies...Singy does a pretty good job of keeping stuff entertained/mezzed.
Remember one mission i was running (granted...i typically run at base difficulty), i was pounding a group of three minions into submission with glee...and after i was done and turned to go down another hallway (i was in a dead end hall)...there was Singy...happily mezzing and chipping away at an ambush of three dudes that I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WERE THERE. I think i may have had an acc enhancement in him at the time and that's it. From then on...it's been a wonderful love affair with the "Sum totality of my telekinetic powers"
(my toon theme is he's telekinetic...bonus points if you can guess who's phrase i parodied.) -
While i can't say for certain that the global acc works for your pet...i'm pretty sure that pets don't benefit from it...same with global damage/regen/healing/etc. set bonuses. They only apply to you.
I've got a lvl 36 grav/energy dominator...and I've found Singy to be VERY durable. He can withstand tons of damage before he even thinks about going down. +Res slotting is not needed and would be a waste of slots, if you ask me. -
Plus...correct me if i'm wrong but...isn't status resistance different than status protection? IIUC...resistance reduces the amount of time that a mez lasts when you get hit with it. I.E. if you have 40% resistance and you get hit with a mez that normally lasts for something like 10 seconds, then it'd only put you under for something like 6 seconds...reduced by 40%. Mez protection stops the mez outright...up to whatever the protection mag is.
...Yes? -
Quote:Yeah...I had a feeling that AiB wasn't standing on a "firm podium" with this one since he didn't seem to be getting all uppity and confrontational about stuff...that and the whole "captain ahab" schtick (tho he coulda just taken my Resident Evil: Apocalypse quote at face value instead of grammer cop'ing me...jerk...Guys, AIB's not serious. You can all stop picking on him.
AIB, look up Poe's Law, and next time you try this kind of over the top dramatization, add a smiley so you don't confuse people. Hell, you even fooled me for a while. Good show. Too good.
Anyway, I love this tray. I don't use it, but the tray is awesome for the new guys. Invaluable tool to make our beloved AT all that more popular.)
And i'm right there with ya, Dechs. I personally like the tray. Honestly...i kinda wish i had it when i first made my khelds all those years ago...but hey. I just "adapted" (hehehe) back then and learned keybinds. Actually...come to think of it...it was BECAUSE of playing my khelds that i STARTED learning keybinds.
That said...I can certainly get behind the stance of "make this sucker OPTIONAL!" -
Hmm...well...first and foremost...this should really be in the suggestions section of the forums...but...
1. I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that this is a pbaoe toggle? If so, then depending the amount of the "scaling" buff numbers and range of effect, i'd suspect a rather signifigant end cost for something like this, and it still wouldn't match the potential for the actual FS power, which can easilly be stacked given enough recharge...which really doesn't take much. End result, a power that WANTS to be fulcrum shift, but falls substantially short and winds up vastly inferior.
2. Slightly interesting concept...though not one i've not seen before. (I play pen and paper rpg's and one of the games i play actually has a "negate super powers" super power.) Problem here is I don't really see how this power would provide any particular advantages over a straight hold. Even less so if you narrow it down and limit it to either particular power sets, or primary/secondary powers.
In the former example, if they don't have said powersets...your power is useless. Worst case scenario is you'll only be able to use this power on a set few mobs in the entire game.
In the latter case, if you can null out primary powers...then great...they can't attack you...but they still have their full defenses. To an extent...we can do this now. It's called Confuse. Sure...they still attack...they just don't attack US! If they're the only thing standing...then they just take the beating with a smile. And nulling secondaries really wouldn't accomplish too much. Many mobs may not even have an actual secondary powerset, while some mobs do, and even others may have certain attributes baked into them (res, def, regen, etc.) that are automatic and not tied into ANY powers. And you still run into the issue of they're STILL HITTING YOU! HOLD (or confuse)!
3. Holy crap what a slotting nightmare that would be...unless this power was restricted to maybe acc and recharge only. Just entirely too many variables for this to even concider. Not sure too many people would really enjoy the "luck of the draw" aspect of this just for the simple chance to copy a crappy power. If nothing else...people tend to like something that gives consistancy. Its a neat idea, for sure...but there's just wwwaaaayyyyy too many potential issues with it.
4. ....mud pots...hot feet...chilling embrace...temporal distortion.......need i say more? We already got tons of that.
5. There's that "random" thing again. People don't want random. They wanna know what they're gonna get and what's gonna happen when they click that little icon. Random, in this game, don't work.
I'm not necessarily knocking your ideas, Res...i just don't think that something like this is really feasible, and in some cases, desireable in THIS game. Some of your ideas i've actually seen in other places...particularly #2 and #3...both in the same RPG as a matter of fact. -
yeah...one of my moments where my finger hit a key without me thinking...
more often than not i have to backspace over that accused apostrophe in "its" cuz it likes to try and sneak in on me there. i just missed it that time. ........grr

I must be one of those guys...i started laughing as soon as the clip started to play 'cuz i know that scene. LOL

...You say this as if it's a recent phenomenon (sp?)...heh.
We, as kheldians, since time immemorial (or at least since what...i3...i4 when we were unleashed), have always been starved of slots. Especially tri-formers. I23, with it's now instant transmission...er....transformations (sorry, dbz flashback)...has only served to remind those who may have forgotten this when they decided to remain within the trappings of their "human" bodies.
But seriously though. Who the feth do i gotta dropkick to get more friggin slots??!!
(Mental note: drag out all human PB and work out tri-form build)
