  1. Seeing the larger variety it is tempting to try CO... but then I think about how many posts I see here that say "I'm back!" lol

I think you get the picture? Maybe it could be an arena event and here's a little extra I'm going to add:

It could be set in the Matrix Room! It is essentially a training simulater (A la X Men Danger Room)

Sounds perfect like that... edit: as long as your difficulty settings would still effect their lvl... my tank can easily take on +0/+8 like it's nothing whereas my blaster might have issues.

Now we just have to wait for the devs to realize how awesome of an idea it is and make it happen.

Way back when, they added new mission objectives./functionality. (defend/escort, etc.)

If you add new powers, new stories, but use old/similar objectives and environments, the text on top of it can't hide that to the player, and they can get bored of it.
Couldn't agree with this more... the whole post really but specifically what I've quoted. Not to mention that of the options that are there... caves of any variety (with exception to the one with extremely high ceilings) are a PITA to navigate and maintain a good view of.

I do kinda miss open world missions from time to time (came from WoW). It kinda adds to the randomness of everything with other players running around, so even if you're playing solo it still feels like an MMO, soloing instanced missions makes CoX feel like a single player game sometimes.

The downside of course is that the missions (quests, whatever) got to be monotonous. "Go bring me 10 apples" at lvl 1 turns into "Go find me 10 stupidly named herbs" at lvl 60 and plenty of other "variations" the 58 lvls in between.

    Anyway, welcome back!
  5. TROGDOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's all I have to add other than lots of animal themed pieces like Leo mentioned.

Being relatively new to the game I can only assume Jay is the one responsible for costume design. If so, I can respect his dislike for certain things but isn't his job to give us the options we want? I'm sorry but that's what a job is sometimes especially when dealing with customers... sometimes doing things you don't want to do. This is clearly something that enough people want that it should at least be given consideration and if he can't handle it because of his personal distaste then I agree, perhaps he should be replaced.

How nice to have the freedom to say "I don't want to do that so I'm not going to" and still collect a paycheck.
  8. I'm digging this idea. I would kinda like to see it as an arena of sorts (think Terra Volta as OP said without all the crap inside) just a big room with a few doors.

Hate to draw a WoW comparison here but one of the high lvl dungeons (violet hold for those familiar) is kinda like this except it doesn't get harder per se. It's basically waves of baddies with three boss fights and which boss you fight (except the last one) is randomly picked out of 6 (if memory serves).

That makes them more likely to stay. Also, characters for those with less than five years vet badges will have more flexibility in how they're built; you can still pick up that tier one or two travel pool power if it makes sense for your character, or you can ... not do that and still have a travel power.
No. For plenty of reasons but the one I will lean on remains the fact that it's a kick in the junk for those that have been playing for 60+ months since they had to wait to get that as a vet reward I'm not even one of those players and have over 4 years before I can be and I know if I wait that long and then it gets changed I'ma be all kinds of pissed off.

It's not a bad idea... but it's beyond unnecessary. I would understand moving it back to say lvl 10 or so... but even then like I stated in a previous post getting to lvl 14 takes 3 hours 4 tops of solid teaming. That's nothing.

Because Blizz never (and still hasn't) realized that people want different styles of play. But it's still at a point where you are expected to play a cookie cutter spec and playing different classes in the same vein (i.e. warrior vs bear tank) don't offer that different of an experience, whereas playing a WP/SS tank and moving to a SH/WM tank in CoX is entirely different.

I might (doubt it) check it out after the new xpac but everything I've read just makes it sound like more of the same. Blizzard's too busy placating the masses (as they should from a business perspective) to make the kind of changes that would bring me back... but I'm sure the billions they make off those masses makes that ok by them lol.

16 hours a week radiing I can see why you got bored though lol... at most I did two nights a week 3 hours each not counting the random Vault of Archavon or Obsidian Sanctum each of which took a half hour tops if your team was good enough.

Sorry for the minor derail... back to the topic at hand... I hope GR does something to change the maps in pre-existing instances too, we'll see.
  11. I would like to see a more active primary.

I have no idea how they would incorporate this but one thing I always think about when I think about tanking is ninja tanking in FFXI... for anyone not familiar with it I'll sum it up as the most challenging tank to play in any MMO I've ever played.

You had provoke (taunt) and your only mitigation were shadows (Utsusemi). You had to cast them and time them just right between hits and when you got hit rather than getting hit one of the shadows would absorb it. If you had no shadows up and started getting hit you were likely to end up dead.

You run the dungeons that drop the items you need until you get that item, this can take many, MANY tries to get that item (for example even though I've long since passed the need to complete the level 60 dungeon set called Beaststalkers I had at level 60. I use to run Stratholme undead side solo at 70 and 80 to see if the pants part of the set would ever drop since it didn't when I was level 60...I counted around 60 runs of Stratholme UD and still no drop of that particular item).

Then once you're finally all tooled up from the dungeons you go and raid the same instance for months on end until everyone is appropriately geared to move on to the next one.

So the entire endgame is based around boring repetition of the same instances and yet it gets a free pass?

(and yes I have played WoW, I played it for four years, so not just trolling).
I'll agree that WoW is also guilty of repetition, however... it's on a different scale. I'm not saying either is better they're just two extremely different games both with flaws and repetition is one of them.

After hitting 80 and running the same heroics over and over to get geared up to run the same raids over and over... however, each one is drastically different, especially the boss battles. Also the grind in WoW is only a grind if you make it that way. Leveling up in the instances is fun as long as you don't run the same one over and over to try to get a piece of gear you'll replace in a week anyway. It gets boring because fighting the same big dragon (or whatever) only gives you a rush the first, second and MAYBE the third time you do it on a toon after that it's boring and if running with the same people it's so routine the challenge is taken out of it entirely. It's one of the reasons I quit, that and to try Aion... not horrible but not for me.

In CoX it's fairly repetative from the beginning, especially the mapping. I was running radio missions last night to get to 50 (YAY) and one was in the same warehouse I saw when I was lvl 2 and at least once every lvl after that. The maps are extremely repetative and let's be honest the "bosses" you fight for some missions are nothing but a different skin and name from the last one. Different yes, but there's nothing so drastic that sets one apart from the other.

So in WoW yes you have to run some instances over and over... but there are VERY distinct differences between each, so while leveling up and gearing up after hitting the level cap it's pretty varied, unless you choose to just grind grind grind. In CoX the content is all extremely similar but with all the powerset combinations each time you lvl a toon up it's an entirely different experience.

Also while the original poster has posted similar threads repeatedly (isn't it ironic, don't you think?) it's for good reason. The problem is there's no good argument for it... as already stated all MMOs are repetative it's just a matter of what specifically is repeated and how long it can hold your interest. My average is about 4 years per MMO lol that's how long I played FFXI and WoW and I can honestly see myself playing CoX for that long (if the new Star Wars MMO sucks).
  13. I don't think it's a problem with the controller. It works with joy2key when using notepad and if when I change the functions directly in the keymapping options it works that way... I think it's an issue of CoH recognizing joy2key.

Is it possible that since it's a 3rd party program it won't allow it to work maybe thining it's a bot or something?

I don't consider marketing boring per se... I just don't have the patience or attention span for it whereas farming is just mindless destruction of baddies lol.
  15. So I downloaded joy2key last night. Per the readme I opened up notepad and tried it in there and sure enough when I hit whatever buttons it was like I was hitting them on my keyboard.

However... when I fired up CoH... nothing worked. Anyone have any ideas on why this might be?
  16. If I could offer a suggestion to the op, maybe lighten the rules a bit... I keep reading this thread and honestly the permadeath concept is not what's going to turn people away IMO. I was always fascinated by hardcore when I played DII and I'm sure after playing CoX longer (less than a year first 50 yesterday lol) I'd definitely want in on this if it weren't for some of the rules...

And for those in disbelief of Proletarian's accomplishment, get over it. Leveling through this game is easier than any other MMO I've ever played and getting to 50 with no deaths is highly possible if you play smart. Soloing +2/+8 yea probably not but even lvl or -1 mobs I think any class could do with little problems, some ATs could probably even go +1 or more as their abilities mature.

Jade I believe you're right, I was playing with my gf when I dinged and the inf I was getting was roughly equal to her xp + inf (she's only 48 atm).

  20. I just want to add to what others are saying as far as tanks dealing "respectable" damage. Not only is it true, it's VERY uncommon in MMOs. The tank class in most other MMOs does extremely low damage compared to the other classes whereas tanks in CoX are only a relatively small percentage below there less durable counterparts.

    PB vs WS

Not too much into pvp so it will likely be stricly pve... actually I have yet to engage in pvp ever in this game lol.

Thanks all for the replies... maybe I'll just make one of each
  22. Two bubbles from my first 50 and I'm excited about two things... being able to make a PB or WS and how much easier it is to gain inf (from what I've heard).

My question is about the second... I know most of the money probably comes from drops but running hero stats last night I was getting about 1.2 mil just from mob kills which isn't bad. Is the amount of xp converted directly to inf as a 1:1 ratio? And if so does the difficulty have the same effect on the inf that it would have on the xp?

Not to mention that it was an overhyped piece of garbage at release. Not sure if it has improved at all sense though.

It did look admittedly good... but graphics do not make the game. Hell I've run around CoX with the option (forget what it's called) that makes the lines look like old school 3D graphics (think the original Doom) and it's still a ton of fun because of the content, plus those graphics just make me giggle for some reason.
  24. While I like the idea... I've been playing less than a year and it kinda undermines those that have the 60 month badge.

Besides lvling from 1-14 can be done in a few solid hours (longer solo of course)... not a big deal. I try to avoid direct comparisons but you mentioned CO. Compared to most other MMOs being able to move as quickly as we can at the lvl we can is pretty awesome. Try playing WoW where you have to wait 30 lvls (used to be 40) to get a mount which is a lot longer than a few hours of gameplay.
  25. Personally I wouldn't make a judgment like that but I think saying it's impossible without PLing is pretty dumb... hard, improbable? Sure. But anything is possible.

Now I'm considering making a toon just to see how far I can solo without dying.
