Quote:You'll note I mentioned my "main" account. I have two. What else are you going to do with those Paragon Merits? Super Packs are perfect for someone in your position.
The second account is still one merit away from getting all of the Tier 9 costume parts. On that account, if I want the Elemental Order costume parts, I'll have to spend cash.
And if I want the wolf pet on both (which I REALLY do), I'll likely have to spend A LOT of cash for both.
That's not going to happen. -
Quote:Also agreed.Sorry, but agreed.
I am with-holding my cash monies from these things. Even though I really, really badly want those costume pieces, I am NOT supporting these damn things. End of.
My main account is sitting on around 12 Paragon Merits, and I could most likely get the costume by throwing them away for 5 packs each.
Not going to happen, and I'm sure as HELL not throwing money away on them. -

Quote:Actually, if you'll recall WWD #1, if the target of the power theft is alive, the artifact explodes and the power reverts to the rightful owner. The reason States won't be brought back using this is simple, no matter how much i hate it personally.
When he comes back, he comes back a mortal. He won't be the States we knew, and it is very unfair to put him through the rest of his life if we can't figure out a way to get his powers back 1st.
Let his death stand for a reason, not bring him back and have age/time torment him for years, esp after he already lived well over a 100 years on this planet.
As much as i'd like to revive him, let him be with the loved ones who have been waiting on him so long. The people we all know he missed for many decades.
I'm really, REALLY hoping that in part 7 we call Statesman back somehow right when Wade's using his power to summon Rularuu, causing Wade to get thrown into the Shard for Rularuu to devour. It's better still if Statesman can be shown to have known this would happen, and sacrificed himself to destroy Wade.
Then, we could say a final farewell to Statesman before he returns to his rest, the torch firmly passed to those that come after him. -
Quote:The Statesman does not kill, Wade. Not even you.How do we reconcile the man man apparently so devastated he didn't think to bring backup with the man so comfortable with himself that he isn't even all that angry at Darrin Wade?
That is not to say I will not hurt you. No, we can't say that. You will be hurt now. Because of you, I have lost my daughter. I have lost my granddaughter. I have lost my best friend. The only thing I have left to live for is you, and I will live for a very, very long time.
No, Darrin... may I call you Darrin, now? It seems we should be on a first name basis for this. No, Darrin, you will not die. You won't be that lucky. -
Wow.
That's just... awesomely disturbing, and disturbingly awesome. -
Quote:Agreed.Sorry, I'm going to have to go with revolting on that one.
Bacon is a funny substance. It can be one of the most delicious foods in existence, but it can also be nasty. If it's undercooked and fatty, as it looks to be in that picture, it's nasty. If it's lean, brown, and crisp, count me in.
Now, if they used a leaner bacon and put it into that shape before cooking it completely, THEN I'd love the idea. -
Quote:Huh?Seriously, people. If it was the darned mess that was the Super packs before they let us know there would eventually be a way to get the Elemental Order costume parts another way, then sure, it'd be a valid complaint (costume set that requires what is essentially gambling to have a shot at getting is not cool).
I've seen them say that they'll think about, maybe, at some possible point in the future, considering putting the costumes out in some other way. I have yet to see them say that they WILL put them out in some other way.
Link, please?
As for the Coyote power, it's not for everyone. It's apparently selling well enough that they'll consider more transformation-type powers in the future, though. -
As an RPer, I find them very handy. They let me know when someone's going to say something, so I can wait and not reply before I know what they were saying/doing. It gives people more time to react to RP, and makes it much less likely that the RP will become a jumbled mess of people posting different actions to things that someone else may have already delt with.
-
When they do this, I hope they have you submit the following:
- Costume
- Alternate costume
- AT/Powers information
- Personal stats (Name, age, and so on)
- Bio
Not only would the questions help them to pick a good character, it would help them in figuring out how to write the character when they use them and maybe even suggest a plot line or two they may bring to the table. -
With two active VIP accounts, I wonder if I get to nominate one character from each? Even if I do, it'll be hard to narrow down my choices. So many alts....
But taking a look at things, I can't help but think that it's not the powers that are important here. It's the morality of the character that's going to be important. Even at the end, Statesman refused to kill. He stood strong by his morals. Without him, the FP needs someone with the same moral strength, or they risk sliding down a far darker path.
They also need someone to replace Statesman's experience. They may not find someone as experienced as he was, but they do need someone that's been through hell and back, so to speak. Someone that can keep their focus and deal with whatever's thrown at them, no matter what it is.
Perhaps my choice isn't all that difficult after all. -
Thorgar, you and your girls have my deepest sympathies.
I'm sorry I wasn't online when you came on, to speak to you personally. I'm sorry I missed the memorial as well.
She will be missed, greatly. -
Quote:A valid reason, with the costume parts just along for the ride.Collections also show what content that person has purchased. Like the SSAs or First Ward. Ive seen iTrials get stalled by freems and premiums joining up. I can only assume that teams would get stalled by teammates that havent bought the content beforehand.... never PuGed an SSA or First Ward.
Thank you. My concerns are now withdrawn. -
Quote:Thank you for replying, but you totally failed to address what I was saying.First, we have no plans to ever sell badges.
Second: We needed a way for players to easily track what costume parts or other items they still need without having to dive into the costume creator. Collections seemed like an ideal solution since it already lends itself to categorical listings that can be referenced in a relatively quick manner.
That's about the extent of it.
Costume parts listed in the Collections tab? Agreed, it makes sense. But WHY are other people allowed to see what costume parts I do or don't have? Why do you think it matters to them, unless it's to be seen as another type of badge to collect?
To quote the patch notes: "Players can view other players' collections just as they can view their badges."
Why? -
Quote:Alright. That's fair enough. I'll try to keep that in mind and do a better job about keeping a level head. You all have my honest apologies for where I've suggested that you don't care about feedback.I'm going to say something (which has been quoted more than enough already, so *snip*)
Now, about the costume parts and the dark wolf pet: We just want to know that we WILL be able to get them outside of the packs. While we would (obviously) prefer to do it right away, I don't think most of us would object too much if it was 6 months down the line. Details can be decided later (just keep them reasonable), we just want to know that it WILL be. Please come out and say YES or NO on this once and for all BEFORE the packs go live.
Also, I would love it (seriously) if you could give me a good reason for allowing other people to view your collections other than selling badges under a different name. I honestly don't like to think Paragon's going there, but it's the only possible explination I've seen given and I can't think of any other. -
Quote:While I won't go into why I'm like that, you have hit upon one of my little mental hangups. That's part of the reason I'm asking such a question. You seem to have "courteous and discourteous" confused with "right and wrong".
Quote:I believe the OP was asking, in a colloquial fashion, to what degree do people feel an obligation to sacrifice some of their entertainment for the betterment of the game. And in that respect, the question is an edge variant of the tragedy of the commons scenario.
I can say this much: I don't feel *obligated* to do things like test the game, but I sometimes feel *compelled* to do so.
Now, I wasn't going to talk directly about the packs here, but I've been thinking about it and I find that my views on the packs have actually landed in the area of my origional question.
- I think the packs are bad for the game in the long run.
- I think the packs are bad for the players of the game in the long run.
- I want the costume (and pet, but let's be reasonable) in the packs.
- I will actually use the extra stuff in the packs (ESPECALLY the upgraded Team Inspirations).

Quote:HAPPY with the feedback on Super Packs?!
What, lots of people going "I am simply not buying these, this is a freaking rip off" ?
And no alternate means to get the costumes. Wow. Bum move guys. Real bum. Not impressed with that...
The rest is good.Quote:Do you honestly think they could give a rat's behind about feedback these days?
I'm getting the impression that they are happier getting complaints about their content these days than getting compliments about it.
They're putting things like the Elemental costume parts under the "Collections" tab. They're also making the tab viewable by other people under your information, just like badges. So now, other players will be able to see what costume parts you have, and what ones you're missing.
That's right, they've expanded it to selling badges. Oh, sure, they're called "Collections" instead of "Badges", but that's a distinction worthy of Jack's ED comments.
They've realized that they can get more than just the hardcore costumers to buy them even though they hate them. They're going after the hardcore badgers, too. Isn't it wonderful? -

Quote:I see there being a slight difference in some cases.Funny, because that's exactly what "moral obligations" refer to.
Let's say you're entering a building and you see someone else headed for the doors, and they're carrying enough stuff that they'll have to pause for a moment to rearrange things to open the door. The right thing to do is to hold the door for them. They don't really need you to, though, and it's hardly the end of the world if you let them deal with it so you can move on to what you're there for. And the person behind THEM may expect you to hold the door open for them too, even though they don't have anything in their hands, just because you held it open for the first person.
Anyway...
Thank you all for your replies. They were, by and large, very honest and logical. I just can't help but feel that a little sliver of idealism died in the reading, but maybe that's a good thing when it comes to dealing with things. -
Quote:Somehow, all that reminded me of this:See, this is where I suppose the opinions of many players and myself diverge: they believe Natural Origin characters have no powers and succeed by 'being awesome!', and I believe that there's a difference between one guy who can break a plasma-vomiting mech in half with his bare heel and one guy who can't. You can call it training, motivation, force of will or self-discipline, but it's still power. 'Awesome' is not a sufficient definition of the source of a Natural Origin character's skills or more importantly what is responsibe for them, and therefore people mistakenly believe that there's nothing to steal. Unfortunately, 'awesome' is approximate to the official given definition of Natural Origin characters, which makes things worse for everybody who works with or looks at the canon.

In the threads about Super Packs, I've seen a few people point out that it's the Dev's job to make money for the company, and that that's the reason the game exists. It is NOT their job to make us happy, unless that makes more money than making us unhappy.
True enough, I guess.
It got me to thinking, though. If the Devs of any MMO (and game itself) have no moral obligations to the players, then what moral obligations do the players have to those Devs and their game?
This isn't a question of right and wrong, that's another issue. What I'm asking is what people like us should consider ourselves obligated to do FOR the MMOs and Devs of said games we play?
If we know of an exploit but we're not using it, do we still have a duty to report it? If we're on a test server, do we have a responsibility to actually test instead of just mess around and have fun? If we find a bug in-game, do we need to report it?
The Devs are there to make money, but the players are paying that money to enjoy themselves. At what point should a player feel that they need to stop having fun and help the Devs with the game in some way?
Again, this isn't about right or wrong, nor is it about how we deal with other players. Being a jerk to players OR Devs is wrong. Abusing an exploit is wrong. I'm just wondering where people think we can draw the line that allows us to shrug our shoulders and say "Not my problem, I'm here to enjoy myself".
((PS: It's late and I'm tired. Sorry if I rambled a bit. It's hard to get the exact question into words when I'm about to faceplant onto my keyboard.)) -
At least once I've used "SG needs me" when what I really meant was "two of my SG mates are about to kill each other, I need to go defuse this OOC argument before it gets any worse".
-
I believe what you're seeing is the phasing tech in action. Those Hellions are not there for you, so when you get close the game decides that they shouldn't be there and phases them out. I've seen similar things myself.

Penny Yin (she didn't destroy the device after all) or Manticore (he has a hidden shard of the crystal of Ice and Flame).
