I run too many programs that don't support 64 bit. That's going to continue for some time since the program developers no longer update.
There is a workaround where you go into the OS and change the amount of memory Windows sets aside for itself since it never uses all that. It's just hogging it. Don't need to do that yet though. -
I ran Driver Sweeper. The game ran long enough to say it had run out of memory, which is wierd with a 1 GB video card, so probably Nvidia needs to improve something. So I turned down some settings and game is running good again. Odd though that Vista could run CoH at higher settings than Windows 7.
-
Last month I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (full install) on a newly formatted hard drive. Service Pack 1 was updated through Windows Update. The problems started immediately (prior to SP 1 update) and the Nvidia driver version was 270.61 at that time.
-
CoH never crashed running on this machine in Vista, but now crashes frequently. Almost instantly on Port Oaks and Imperial City locks up during loading.
Windows 7 Pro SP1 32bit. AMD Phenom II X3 720 CPU 2.80 GHz. 4 GB RAM. GeForce 250 GTS. (275.33 driver). Gigabyte MA790X-UDP mainboard. No other cards installed.
When CoH lasts long enough while CTD-ing to create an error message they are corrupt file and fatal error messages, but the files are not corrupt. They run fine on the next reboot.
All other recent games run fine.
Edit: Need to mention I switched to Windows 7 when I-19 came out, so it may also be something changed in I-19. -
I rolled back the Nvidia driver to 260.99 and this fixed the instant crashing in Port Oaks and other maps I hope, though I haven't been to all of them yet.
My error message was that I had a corrupted texture, something like, "portoaks_blackmarket_cab texture is corrupt."
The bad driver for me was the 270.61, on a geforce 250 GTS. -
In Windows Vista I could run CoH with all ultra settings maxxed on a GeForce 250 GTS. Apparently with drivers ver 196.xx, which were too old according to game message.
Recently I upgraded to Windows 7 and the current Nvidia driver 270.61. Now the game crashes almost instantly in Port Oaks and the new Rogues maps. I am planning to rollback to the 196.xx or maybe 256.xx and see if the crashes stop. However, I ran into a discussion in a different game where players were experiencing crashes with new video card drivers and someone said there is a bug with Windows 7 when it auto-updates to Service-Pak 1 and the way they fixed their frequent crashes was to restore prior to the install of SP1, uninstall nvidia drivers with driver sweeper and then download and install the full SP1 update manually. Then reinstall the Nvidia driver. No more crashes.
Now I can't do this, that restore point is gone and i am not even sure it has anything to do with CoH suddenly crashing. I am just posting this here as an FYI, just in case it is related to some CoH crashes as well. -
It would ruin the game for two reasons. Less re-playability, as something completely different than prior characters. And the powersets would all be weaker with about the same effects in a different wrapper.
What they need to do is make a bunch of new powersets and add a few new AT's.
Archery still needs an Arrow Manipulation Secondary which could be the same as Trick Arrow, minus the debuffs with an, Imbued Arrow power replacing Build-Up and, of course, Boost Range!
Energy Weapons (Ionic, Cosmic, Mythic) is a common, but missing, comic book powerset that could be a new Melee Set with some ranged attacks.
CoH is far from complete and is begging for some obvious new powersets and even AT's. Then they could take all that into CoH2 at a later date. -
Yes, I can think of so many comic book villians who raised their own crop of synthetic monsters and armies to control the earth, galaxy, etc. Plus the options for the synthetic monsters is endless in possibilities. Each could be different.

Brutes get more HP's. Scrappers get Critical Hits. Roll a Scrapper if you want Regeneration, Broadsword, or Katana which are too good for a Brute due to HP's and Parry (?), otherwise roll a Brute. Brutes also have higher resistance caps if they can reach them.

Yes, I have Tyler French of those. He said come back at level 25 after I completed all his missions, but now, at level 25 he is Inactive and says he has nothing. Bugged I suppose since of the contacts mentioned he is the only one my character has.
-
I wanted to do the Tsoo Coup arc with my level 25, but did not get Amanda Loomis as a contact. None of my other contacts are offering it. I know I have done it for other contacts, but can't remember which ones.

Vanguard Weapons for;
War Mace
BattleAxe
Dual Pistols
Also an Energy Hammer is needed, and would make a good new powerset even. There is alot of comic book RP potential in an Energy Hammer at any rate and not having it leaves a big void in CoX. -
I edited my original post to include the basic idea for humanoid monsters/constructions, but they could be anything that fit the idea of strange lab created henchmen. Hopefully something new and unique.
-
From the beginning I thought a Synthetic Monster/Weird Scientist was a natural for a comic book styled mastermind so I never suggested it, thinking it would be added soon anyway. However...
This Mastermind creates his henchmen from synthetic bio-chemical goop. Maybe mixes them up in chemists flasks or throws out a bottle from his belt. From the goop, his monsters quickly take shape. They would be humanoid, but very synthetic, perhaps half finished constructions. Idea is for monsters a weird scientist might create.
They are ranged with some melee attacks, the middle two having some control/defense, and the big pet having hulking size and tank-like ability. Possiblity that Mastermind gets an electric gun and sapping ability, maybe through his pets. -
My suggestions, other's shared too, that made it into the game...
Weapon Selection box at the tailor. This was amusing since the responses were all, "impossible!", but it showed up in the next update. They were probably already working on it.
Recharge and Damage changes to Snap Shot and Aimed Arrow.
Averaging Defense powers over several levels instead of just one.
Still working on "Weird Science" Mastermind who creates monster henchmen out of biochemical goop. -
Oil Slick Arrow. On a Corrupter with Archery, it's just what Rain of Arrows needed to be complete.
White Dwarf Flare. Makes me wish there was a power of Lightning powerset. -
Seems like an oversight that Blinding Feint (Scrapper DB) does not accept Accurate +Acc sets since it is a power those sets were intended for. Just pointing it out.

Sad but true. I took my lvl 26 Archery/TA into a -1 level mission, turned lvl 27 during it and could not defeat the end-boss with a full tray of greens and purples.
Mission: End the Medi-Port Conspiracy
Contact: Roy Cooling
End Boss: Malta Zeus Robot (Elite Boss) conning white.
Now I would wait until the mission aged to a minus 3 or 4 levels, but it would not be any fun by then. -
Quote:LoL, you can't avoid Malta except by auto-completing missions. I think the main gripe with Archery is it has no secondary effect to mitigate damage and does not do extra damage like Fire does as compensation. Then the next drawback is, only Lethal damage. That's an extreme case though. The average gamer avoids malta at all costs or at least reduces the difficulty EVEN if they have a Primary like Fire...Heck Malta make MM, Doms and most Brutes sweat!
The good part about Archery is it is fun and roleplays very well. -
Problem is, most mobs resist Lethal damage very well, robots do incredibly well and as a Corrupter your arrows will plink off the Malta robots and even the non-robot bosses, doing very little damage no matter what you do. Anyway, you'll run into this lethal resist alot and Archery has no Secondary Effect, just a little better Accuracy.

FF/Rad. Pure Energy Damage is poorly resisted except by Rikti. Cosmic Burst does high damage and keeps Bosses stunned with a fast recharge.
FF/Ice. Ice is good damage with a double hold. Blizzard plus Ice Storm can be cast around corners allowing you time to get PFF back up.
FF has some things Traps doesn't that makes it more than just Dispersion Bubble. Force Bubble is your tool, flip it on and off to keep mobs scrambling. Repulsion Field can send foes flying 50 feet.
The only drawback with FF is that eventually some high level boss or mobs will overcome your defense, but purple bosses are always tough. -
Quote:Okay, Blasters don't melee, "well". As opposed to Scrappers who do melee very well.Says who.........the same people who argue that Defenders secondaries are only there by accident?
Anyway, just my two cents on Electric's gameplay mechanics. After 7 years (well almost) I have about 50 Alts, most are Blasters, and Electric still needs something to be on the same level as the other sets. -
I have been trying to get Electric/Electric to work for almost 7 years now, but the mechanics are still flawed.
Endurance Drain and game mechanics: Works at the middle to end of battles and Bosses have very powerful attacks that require little endurance, so your toughest opponents must be held completely drained.
Range: Endurance Drain is a Melee effect and Blasters don't Melee.
Attacks: Ranged attacks get no secondary effect from minor Endurance Drain and have no special ranged attack like Blazing Arrow, Power Burst, Blaze, etc. Short Circuit is melee in gameplay, and Power Sink is only melee. Tesla Cage is a short Hold with a 2.17 sec activation (Freeze Ray is 1 sec). Voltaic Sentinel attacks weakly and randomly.
Changes that seem reasonable compared to other Blaster sets would be to make Short Circuit and Power Sink 25 foot PBAoE's in the Blaster versions. Add a DoT damage effect to ranged attacks. Voltaic Sentinel also Buffs or Debuffs in some way. Electric/Electric still would not be as good as other Blaster sets with these changes, but it might make the set playable in PvE.
Final note. I never see Electric Blasters anymore. Not saying no one plays it. Just that I haven't seen an Electric Blaster in over a year now. -
I have a DP/Devices and DP/MM blaster and have no problems. DP is a little different, kind of like brawling with ranged attacks, but that's what everyone wanted was a Dual Pistol Scrapper. That's exactly what they got, as a Blaster of course.
