If you have Comcast cable its one of there "Same day as Theaters" ondemand offerings.

I checked it out, it was ok and a decent fill for a couple boring hours one night. But i frankly was going to expect more from it and it just didnt deliver IMO.

Ellen Page i think stole to show she was much more entertaining then the lead actor.

I don't think the general movie going public really knows of Chris Hemsworth (sp?) the actor, just yet. Personally I thought he did an awesome job, but he lack name recognition.

RR on the other hand...he may not be one of the big HUGE names, but he's more known for sure.

Of course if the movie sucks (I'll see it anyways I'm sure) well then...but I really don't think it will be that bad.
My point was trying to be that at 150 million thor will pull a profit off for its studio based probably exclusively on its comic book fan base of movie goers and what little it might pull in from the general movie going audience.

Where a movie like Green Lantern at 200+ million will be much more reliant on getting that main stream audience. And yes a main stream actor and boy toy like Ryan Renoylds im sure will help that with getting girl friends willing to go see it and such. But when you see the previews and see the planets and aliens and glowie green suits IMO for a mainstream audience that likes big robots beating the **** out of each other in bad camera angles and slo-mo of bad actresses running with bouncing breasts, green lantern is less likely to pull in main stream audiences unless it just gets outstanding reviews.

Basicly just Green Lantern and a movie like it at its budget level is much more of a risk then Thor even though you could say both characters have equal rep with comic fans and obscurity with non-comic fans.
  3. I can understand his problem. First off he is right no one likes to have an episodes plot and twists ruined.

My problem is that i like to read and take part in discussions and guess work. So even though i dont seek out spoilers, many times the people that do will work themselves into those discussion on movies and tv shows and ruin it for many.

And I would agree with this, but now we have to do a 2 hour movie, package it move a plot along. I dont think they are gonna have time to have each character fulfill a plot point specificly geared to their skill set like a story arc in a comic does. And if they do, lets say they need Widow to break into a secure location and steal the doomsday device plans, the interwebs will just fill up with links to posts like "why couldnt thor just swoop in break through the wall and steal the plans rather then having a redhead acrobatic display?"

I am not saying i dont like teams, im just saying this really IMO is going to be the first time seeing on screen, live actors, a team with this kinda of power disparity. That IMO was one thing they did well in the Xmen movies was basicly to keep most the team members at some kinda of equal useful level where one isnt outshining the rest of the team other then by choice of having to have wolverine in like every scene.

Well i think that is the good part of marvel's new attitude.

I mean with crappy movies costing well over 200 million to make these days, I seem to recall both Thor and Capt A are budgeted somewhere around 150 million. So 66 million north america plus world wide release tickets, plus DVDs and its easy to see Thor well into the profitable range for disney/marvel.

I personally would much rather have good movies and a franchise running of them, then a great movie that seems to expensive to warrent a sequel because of production costs. Comic movies are still a closet business. Yes some cross over and go mainstream but for every Batman Begins there seems to be a Daredevil. And a character like Thor who is popular to comic fans yes, doesnt have the same cross over appeal to get a 300 million dollar budget and expect to earn it back.

Green Lantern for instance is rumored to cost over 200 million dollars and i think will suffer the same issues at Thor in that its a primarily base appeal will be mostly just comic fans and more mainstream people might choose more mainstream looking movies to go to rather then one that though might be truish to the comics looks more fanciful then they would otherwise see. And in the summer viewing season when your not really going more then 2-3 weeks before a new release is pumped out (sometimes more like 1 week) having the higher budget will only work against the measured success of your movie.

I personally would rather marvel keep making movies the quality of Thor and making money then risk 300+ million and decide that movies just are not worth taking a risk on anything but an Xmen or Spiderman movie.

All the produce in the dome burned, and didnt they take the supplies to the planet with the crew?

Even if not they made it very VERY clear in the episode that the Destiny's life support systems couldnt not compensate for the temperatures that would have been reached in the ship on their own. Why the three that remained used the suits. Destiny was only able to compensate down to the level that the suits made up the difference.

No sane leader would do it unless the technology was throughly tested and posed no risk to their population.
The planet blew up because of an attack though didnt it? It wasnt a failure of the gate wasnt it a sabotage to the connection process? I think it would be more like a "what can you give us to make it worthwhile" and then on a limited run. Like i mentioned like one connection a month or every other month. Just enough to get supplies shift off people when their tours of duty are up or for shore leave etc. Just to get rid of that one apsect of the show that was the most boring and totally over used in the story lines.

Oddly i found this episode to be one of the weakest so far this season. Not only as a series finale, but even if it was coming back as a season finale there is absolutely no real cliff hanger to it IMO. You know they wouldnt be planning on killing eli.

So basicly he would either get the pod working, and they all wake up 3 years later, or have a nerdgasm of an idea and not want to wake the others and save the day not requiring them to spend the full three years in stasis.

IMO this show worked best when they ignored the "Stranded" nature of the crew. If it was coming back, being they mentioned that planet that they tried to take over the gate on that could have reached them i would have hoped that they found some way to make a treaty allowing like 1 connection a month or something for supplies and leave etc, then they could have gotten on with doing good stories.

The stasis pods would have been great to use to safely transport the stranded colonists. They could have found out then that some needed repair and gotten them fixed before they even went to the blue star and had some of the material stored in case future repairs were needed.

With the gate destroyed and the drones gone they could have used the shuttles and stocked up on fresh food, put it into a cargo room and turned off life support so it would be frozen to last longer, and refueled Destiny at that star.

Then if they actually decided that the pods couldn't be used while refueling at the blue star then fine using the gate would be the next best choice.

Then this episode they could have simply put everyone into stasis and make the jump to the next galaxy without getting into the pointless fight with the drones and blowing up one of the shuttles. Or they could have continued on thru the galaxy by bypassing the motherships outside the path of the stargates at least until the drones figured out something was wrong and tried to find them again. The farther thru the galaxy they got the less time they'd have to spend in stasis when they made the jump to the next galaxy.

Now Mandu did make a valid argument for attacking the Motherships. Getting drones and reprogramming them would be a good idea to add to the ships defenses.

Of course the writers had to get rid of the shuttles or at least one of them because that makes the crew dependent on the stargates for supplies. Can't have people asking silly questions like, "Why don't they just use the shuttles?" or "Why don't they just use the stasis chambers until they find a place where they can resupply food and water?" or "If the planet has wild game they can hunt and eat, why don't they kill a bunch of alien deer and freeze it in an unused storage room by turning off the life support and take it out as needed."
So your problem is that they didnt show them considering an option that they knew wouldnt work?

Now i will give you that for the colonists when they claimed the drain on resources the pods would have come in handy. But for the heat problems of being in the star, no, i have no problem with them not using them or even being considered. Not to mention how fricken boring that episode would have been if you put everyone to sleep rather then having them fighting drones on the planet.

They were pretty clear last week that the only way anyone would survive on the ship in the blue star was to be wearing a space suit on top of destiny's normal shielding and life support etc.

Im pretty sure i recall at one point them saying the inside of the ship was around 400 degrees. Statis tubes are i would imagine basicly closets. I double they would provide the protection or have the additional shielding that the space suits provided.

Just my thought on it, but still i didnt feel i had to let that slide, i just figured it wasnt an option.

Just was thinking tonight that is it bothering anyone yet that half the Avengers they will have in the movie are basicly un and/or underpowered heroes?

I mean they will have Hulk and Thor, obviously both very powerful. Then you add in ironman who though no powers i guess the suit becomes the balancing act there. But then its Capt A(super powered but within somewhat basic means) Black Widow(unpowered) and Hawkeye(unpowered).

It just seems like they run the risk of having characters with either to much power or to little for whatever they put in front of them.

Saw it this morning. I thought it was alot better then i was hoping.

First i like that they didnt just gloss over the asgardian parts in favor of a quick back story with his punishment. It did alot more for the story to have that all shown. The earth bound part has some definate camp to it, and the romance was all but brief and superficial.

I think they did a good job tying it into ironman 2. And really thought the comments about Stark were funny when the destroyer shows up. The ending credit scene is i guess probably the first forshadowing to the avengers movie. But frankly it worries me that they are going to have to make a threat suitable for Thor and the Hulk to deal with that will continue to give more earthly characters like hawkeye, Capt A, and Ironman something worthwhile to do.

My only large complaint, was the costumes. At first i thought they looked really good when all the characters were in Asgard. However when Thors buddies came to earth, what i thought was armor and such really kinda came off looking like foamy klingon armor from the star trek movies and TV shows. But it was brief and forgivable.

Overall i enjoyed it alot. I think the story was engaging (even if parts didnt stick to traditional thor lore) i think the characters all worked out well as they needed to and it was a fun ride.

I dont think that would deflate the want to do the trials since it would mean that saving up the salvage might still be worthwhile even if you have slotted up powers already for new choices.

Dosent look to impressive to me honestly. I actually think i would have been more intrested if rather then doing what will likely turn into some kinda Prince of Persia movie with CGI enemies you can hack apart and keep a Pg13 rating, if they had gone the "game of thrones" route and make a limited run miniseries for a cable network.

Mender Ramiel's arc rewards 5 Threads for completion instead of 1 Shard (Or 1/4 common component.)

Allow equivalent exchange (best option IMO), or 1-1 on 1 shard per thread of old currency (The thing I likely see happening if it ever was changed to this):
    - Equivalent Exchange : 1 Shard -> 5 Threads, Common Shard Component -> Common Thread Component, so forth.
    - 1:1 Shard to Thread : 1 Shard -> 1 Thread, Common Shard Component -> 4 Threads, so on.

Allow Conversion of Notice -> Rare Component or Threads for rare Component, Favour -> Very Rare or Component or Comparable Threads.

    Would like to see:

Non iTrial enemies rewarding reduced amounts of iXP (Doubt it'd happen at this stage of the endgame rollout though.)

Introduction of Incarnate Missions/Story Arcs for Solo to 8 player teams, rewarding bonus threads/components.

I'd have written something about an iXP only system, but I doubt that'd happen (even though the iXP couldn't be stockpiled, only funnelled into existing abilities, thus reducing the need for a currency gating system like we had for Shard content to Thread Content.)
What bugs me most right now is that having 2 different systems of salvage and crafting one for alpha and the other for the 4 new slots IMO makes it really messy. Why not simply now combine them into one system and use that system going forward?

Not only that but having the system allow for conversion of shards to threads at a 1:1 ratio when converting 10 shards, IMO really should also go in the other direction. Atleast then if your going to maintain two seperate systems you can convert the base salvage for each into the other so you can work on all your slots no matter what trial or TF your running.

    Skating Spidey

This is the one they rushed into production to prevent losing the film rights isnt it?

Ya its showing. Dude seriously looks like a highschool teacher not a student. I am not holding my breath on this movie at all. I reserve the right to think differently once i see some trailers, but for now, everything i have seen looks terrible.
  20. Since that 4 minutes of footage from wondercon this movie has been back on my radar for the summer.
  21. Really when i was reading DHs when it got to what part with Mrs W, i really kinda cringed. I am not saying it was out of character or anything at all, but it just seemed like more then any other part of the book, that one particular scene was a totally blatent pandering to writing a scene for a movie, rather then a novel.

I will say right now though, that i want to see Neville stand up and be counted, and also I want to see that one scene when Harry is invisible and the Carrows strike Professor McGon. and he pops out. I know its odd to my opinion above, but some how that scene in the book was just perfect to that actress' style. And i want to see Prof McG nail Slughorn to the wall with that "Its time to choose a side" speech she gave him.

I just have a suspicion that the ending it going to feel very different from the book. That in an attempt to create the ultimate wizarding duel that the humanity of the story is going to be lost. We might get the dream sequence with Dumbledore but i have a feeling alot of that last exchage between V and H is going to get axed for a flashy wand battle.

Havent you learned anything over 10 years. Every episode is filler for this show. They introduce a baddie within about 10 minutes of the season, maybe an entire 25 minutes of the next 20 episodes is relevent, and about the last 20 minutes of the season finale. So really next week, and the first 90 minutes of the season finale i am betting will be clark going emo over having to wear glasses and be considered a fool in public.

My expectations for the finale is something like this...

    90 minutes of crap.

Then Ollie is going to go dark sied and be granted some type of powers and have to fight clark again. This fight will take maybe 30 seconds of screen time tops and will probably end with no real punchs being thrown and clark probably just breaking Ollies bow. Then Ollie comes around to his senses, Dark Sied punishes him for him, Clark takes one shot to put him away end of the conflict.

Afterward of course Metropolis will have been covered in dark clouds and a lightning storm or something dumb that will clear away, and of course there will be a tv camera there taking a picture of clark...or better yet young Jimmy Olsen (the younger brother) catching a pic of the blur. It will end with Clark in superman costume getting the key to the city or something like that at a press conference and we will get some crappy pull back through a TV shot and see Lex watching it on TV who will do some snickering and the credits will roll.

But that said im really at this point only watching to see how bad they can end it. I mean if great writers like BSG had can write that pile of ****, just imagine how much more stink a team or terrible writers like smallvilles can do.
  23. I liked this series opener very much. I didnt mind the jump in the middle, they basicly explained it through a flashback of them leaving the warehouse and then when they are all together again, stating that it sounded like the Doctor allowed himself to be caught to allow the companions to roam for 3 month to gather information.

One thing to think about, though Amy in the picture is holding the child, nothing says that Amy is the mother, i have pictures of my friends and family members holding my kids when they were babies. Also keeping in mind that if you count on some type of resemblence between the girl and amy, the same could be said for a resemblence between Amy and River.

They seemed to need the girl for something though, and they had amy as a captive for like 4-5 days not mentioning anything that could have been done to her during that 3 months prior. I am also finding that Moffar rarely introduces things he doesnt plan to use again. So in the first episode relating the story that a time lords body would be a sought after prize, and going out of the way to have a gallon of gasoline brought in and a boat and to spend the screen time showing the fire, i am thinking more some type of genetic manipulation that the silence for hold of cells from the Doctor, and maybe stole an egg or two from amy when she was captured to harvest a gallifrian clone/test tube baby.

I have a sneaking thought that this new timelord is going to show up again and not be noticed. We have obviously seen that age seems to not be a factor when regenerating so this girl could come out the otherside as anything.....like perhaps River.
