I like this idea. Considering that we already have it with Kheldians, seeing more of these would be pretty nifty.
-
Speaking as a Premium player, I'm perfectly fine with not being able to run Incarnate powers at all unless I pay up for it with a subscription, which I would be if I had more disposable income.
At the same time, I personally haven't invested enough total time into the system to bother considering it as an issue when playing. Of my two fifties, the one that's actually going to "use" the powers doesn't even play them off as part of the whole Well canon.
Could I see expanded non-Incarnate endgame content as a request? I'd rather have that. -
OK, now I'm looking back a little more and I'm reading that the only thing that's going to happen is that the only thing that's happening is that SP1 is going to be rotated out for the SP2 in terms of Paragon Rewards token redemption. If that's the extent of it, then I'll admit slight overreaction on my part.
It'd still be nice to have the EO parts available outside, even if it was a limited time deal for two weeks like the Halloween/Valentine/Pocket D costumes, but (failing that) if the Super Packs aren't going away from the Market then I'd consider (money and points depending) breaking down one day and going for it on Live.
(I did test them out on Beta, but they were free at the time.) -
Disappointing news, to be sure. I'd like to be able to get the Elemental Order stuff, but I've been holding off on buying super packs completely because there are other things I can and prefer to get as a direct transaction. (Powersets, other costumes, etc.)
Please consider releasing the EO costumes, I'd buy them even if they end up being slightly more than regular pieces. -
Quote:I can half see where you might be coming from with that idea, but where could they fit it in the reward schedule? Would it be an individual token item or part of a tier complete bonus? What tier would you consider as a fair splitting point between "new" and "experienced"? Would it be profitable for them, in any case, to just put it on the Paragon Market?Perhaps this can be a perk tied to a certain vet reward tier badge.
That way people who are brand new to the game still have to go to the appropriate zone for their newspaper/radio as they level (which will allow them to learn about other parts of the game), while people who have been here for a while can have the option of a level 5-50 newspaper/radio in any zone that has a detective/broker.
Realization: They'd have to do work to try and implement a system in order to have all those lower enemy groups scale up unless something like the previous suggestion of exemplaring down to the zone-level (similar to how Ouroboros works) is put into play. -
Disappointment about moving away from UStream aside, I'll try to catch this on my netbook since my actual gaming computer isn't "connected".
I also have a lot of hats. -
Quote:It's somewhere along the lines of what I was going for with that suggestion, yes. It won't necessarily rectify the issue of actually getting high-level par content in the lower level zones, which is something I'd prefer for concept reasons on a couple of characters. It'll at least take out the stagnation period of "you're too big for this zone now, go somewhere else before we talk to you again!" (which should still be reworded).Okay had to go back and reread the thread to see what I missed, and I'll support a modification to the radio/newspaper missions if they set the missions themselves in level appropriate zones.
So a player on a level 50 in Kings Row could get a mission from his scanner that sends him to Peregrine Island to do the mission. And in the case where there are zones where levels overlap the missions could be for any of those particular zones. -
Quote:You're correct in that, sure: the way it currently works does force players to move to other areas once they pass a certain threshold. Can't there be a potential to have that same movement within the radio missions themselves? Not a problem, this is what I said.
By the simple game mechanic of requiring people to change zones to get level appropriate radio/newspaper missions new players cannot help but learn more about what's unique in each zone, where the landmarks are, and where to find specific NPC groups.
Example: A level 15 player is within the range of both Skyway City and Steel Canyon, so the police radio could theoretically give mission options for both zones. He starts in Skyway and does a mission there, and then opens the scanner again: this time there's two Skyway missions and one for Steel. Every time he does a mission for his current zone, the chance for more missions to appear for a different (level-appropriate?) zone increases until all three options are of the second zone.
Follow? It's probably too complex to implement, but it's an idea.
In terms of following radios in lower level zones, I again state that players can already do par-level tips in any zone that allows them to be investigated. I've been on a Lv50 RP tip team running in Atlas and Kings Row, and as I also mentioned, we already call them off as police scanner information. While I'd be fine with taking penalty to have a high level character run radio missions in a low level zone, how fair is it when something similar can already be done... with a bonus tacked on? -
Quote:Going through that process is clunky, though. I figured having the option to refresh right on the radio window would streamline the process. What? Are you talking about refreshing the radio mission list? No, you don't have to do either of those things, not since abandoning missions was implemented.
Select a mission, open the radio again, abandon the mission. Continue until you get a mission option that you like, complete the mission. Repeat. -
The reason why I brought up radio missions in AP is the fact that post-20 any character with the alignment system can activate their tips in pretty much any main city zone... AP included. Personally, I tend to avoid running whatever content in AP because some of the graphics lag my system, but from a flavor point of view AP needs just as much help (if not more) these days.
On top of that, it's simply gotten to the point that I've just roleplayed alignment and morality tips as just another thing the PPD want me to do because they're repetitive, except there's more of a mechanical incentive behind them (A-merits).
It'd be nice if we could make some of those similar morality choices in radio/paper missions. Imagine this scenario: PPD radio in a hostage situation, turns out said hostage is a Crey employee. what would your hero do in that situation? Go in as procedure, subdue the bad guys and lead out the scientist... but that doesn't do for a character that might have a cruel vendetta against the supercompany for whatever reason.
Maybe it might be possible to code the radio to give missions for zones that are at or below the current character's level range: I could have a fifteener get a selection of missions within Steel Canyon, Skyway City, Kings Row, while someone in the 30s can get missions almost anywhere except for Peregrine.
If the "laziness aspect" comes to running repeatables over actual mission chains, why not have periodic reminders for contacts *also* show up from time to time?
As stated, it really is already easy for people to stay in AP, much less never set foot more than a stone's throw away from the Atlas Statue for the entire 1-50 career. AP's a hub zone, moreso now since Galaxy got trashed. People are looking for and advertising for DFB and AE farms nearly 24/7. (By the way, remember when people actually did long haul sewer runs to try to get to Boomtown?)
Also, I heard and seen the word "gestalt" enough with Linguistics class and Final Fantasy XIII combined. It was in my system. -
How about this, then: why not make the police radio/newspaper give missions that are actually in other zones rather than being confined to one? It's a little odd that police radios only work in the surrounding zone in the first place: is it because the war walls block transmissions between city wards or something else? I imagine the PPD are a united force rather than only working within the boundaries of their "cities" within Paragon.
We haven't to date seen anything like "we've been chasing a super-powered bank robber but lost him through the Perez Park gate" or "all available units converge on King's Row to hold off the swarm of clockwork until heroes arrive" or similar. I'd like to be able to be in a place like Steel Canyon and get something like that, and have to rush over in order to assist.
Along the lines of the second example, I'd like (and this is a small wish if it isn't already done) to have, on the very rare occasion, radio missions that cause a zone event to occur... try to make some things like the burning buildings, Troll Raves, etc. have relevance again.
I like the idea of exemplaring down in order to do radio missions in lower zones: that gets my support. But at the very least, if that isn't possible, change the wording of the notice you get when you're too high of a level and "need to move on".
Or, as a last resort... we need to find a way to merge the tips and radio bulletins into a gestalt system.
EDIT: Also, a "keep listening" button to refresh the list of choices of what missions you can pick might be an interesting addition IMO. -
This is one thing I would really like. The whole "beneath my notice" thing has never been heroic-sounding to me.
Also, radio missions in AP. -
(The free transfer tokens from the VIP subscription do accumulate. I probably have five or six of them unused, even now.)

How much sense does it make for a world to have fifty thousand John Doe superheroes, even if they happened to have different powers?
People wouldn't be able to keep track. -
"I found this name and it sounds cool, even though I don't know what it means" is a valid origin story for making up a superhero name.
The best thing to do is use a random name generator to help you come up with inspiration if you're stuck, even if you don't get a name directly from it.
But honestly? Unwillingness to adapt in general is the fault of the creator, and not of the name system. -
Insects. Swarm Blast has always been in the back of my mind when it comes to this sort of idea, and we now have precedence for it thanks to that one attack in Beast Mastery.
I don't know how this would fly with players (pardon the pun), but it could be a set that could do some toxic damage and implement soft-holds/immob/confuse as part of its gimmick. -
No, they cannot. In addition, their PM storage also becomes zero.

I know I've gone premium, and that would certianly be a factor in only having page views go up but not having any discussion: after all, premiums can't post in any section that isn't ALL ACCESS.
Alex (as in imagesbyalex) has tried doing a weekly sketch thing that is updated every so often in this section of the boards so that all players have the chance to partake in the fun.
Also, I hope you're getting recovered. Both legs broken has to hurt... a character of mine could sympathize. :P -
The reasoning why is along the same lines of, let's say, running the Death from Below, or the Terra Volta trial, or completing the Mortimer Kal TF or completing all the Dark Astoria content, or heck, getting Enhancement drops from Hamidon.
You're getting new powers from being exposed to the content or having some sort of higher up granting you their powers for a brief time.
The difference is that (A) the effect of unlocking power pools is permanent and (B) theoretically getting it as an STF reward might require you to respec in order for you to put it properly in your build.
"A villain zapped me with this strange thing and now my powers are changing" is a trope. It's not patronizing the archfiend to give you an hour and a half of his time for pointers to improve how you shoot lightning. -
The idea of going redside for things was killed for me when they made the regular archetypes non-partisan, first in i17 for Praetoria and especially after i21's new tutorial.
My personal issue with going redside is that it doesn't really appeal to my own moral compass, nevermind those of my characters. Yeah, you're mechanically attacking and being attacked by things that don't agree with you, but there's a psychological difference between doing it for great justice and doing it so the world bows down to me.
Or, in short, I bought CoH to be a hero. -
Honestly, it depends. You have stories of heroes that gain the powers of their enemies either through powers of their own (mimicry is a big one), or being exposed to the effects of being attacked with certain elements or picking up equipment that may be beneficial to them after modifications.
-
An SG friend of mine asked me to post this suggestion for her, but it's one I can agree with.
All archetypes have access to Ancilliary power pools at 35 now, no matter what side they are on, and yet the ability to unlock the Patron pools is still mostly a villain thing, whether you start out there or want to switch over temporarily to get the powers for your hero.
I've never run the Statesman Task Force yet, but since you end up having to fight all the patrons and Lord Recluse during the course of the TF, wouldn't it make sense to maybe let bluesiders get access to Patron abilities by completing it?
It still means that we have to work for it, much like the various Patron arcs we already have redside (which you only need to run one of to get access to all of them), but it also means that a player can choose whether or not to "go dark" in order to get them, just in case if it matters to the concept player that their hero stays as one. -
Might as well add a couple more:
Bottle-Eye
Poltermask -
What happens to your characters when you drop down to Premium, Remus, is that they initially all get locked (not deleted) and you recieve a minimum of two global slots to unlock characters you want to play. That minimum of two does increase based on (a) the amount of veteran character slots you unlocked under the old reward system, and (b) any other character slots you've purchased through either legacy means (the menu in the old character select screen) or the Paragon Market.
EDIT: Your ability to acutally unlock characters depends on reward tier (access to CON and MM is a Lv5 Paragon Reward bonus) or whether you've bought them or any of the Epic Archetypes through the market.
I lead a SG as a Premium, but I'm lucky to have another officer who is committed to subscribing in order to take care of the administrative duties I can't accomplish.
Depending on your Paragon Reward tier, you may still be able to fully use the auction house, which is unlocked as a Lv4 bonus.
Losing touch with your friends shouldn't be an issue unless you decide to delete your local and global friends list, which puts the onus on you for not wanting to keep in touch with them in the first place.
