  1. Two other things to point out:

TA's glue arrow has a much farther range on it than caltrops. Caltrops is very short ranged.

TA's glue arrow has a -recharge which might not seem much but when the mook can't reload his gun to shoot you as often, it's not a bad damage mitigator. Caltrops is -speed only, no -recharge.

    Hero MM?

True, the Mission Impossible format from the 60s/70s TV series comes to mind. I despise the Tom Cruise movies.

    The Mastermind

I believe the OP is describing a kinetic in a way.
  4. I didn't want to pull this out, Rad blast has x-ray beams. You shoot stuff with your eyes! How cool is that for a beginner blast set?

Two sides of the same coin for sure, but I would say -damage is better than resistance since it applies before the acc/tohit/def calculation for you, your minions, and your teammates.
  6. Sonic blast of course is related to the mouth and a lot of attacks look like the guy is upchucking or spitting. Fortunately my point of view is from behind so it doesn't really bother me. For survivability, for power synergy, and for a variety of attack animations I suggest Radiation emission/Rad blast. If you were a min maxer, Rad/sonic has an edge in ability to attack, solo, more difficult foes. A Radiation primary defender is a tried and true, stalwart, defender build. I highly suggest it, especially of the choices for someone new to defendering.

I prefer black scorpion shield on a bots MM, but I see your point and totally concur.

I don't play my traps defender anything like this. If you try that on a team you either get left behind or you advance so far ahead you get whacked quickly.
  8. At first glance, you need more recharge in freezing rain. It's top of the line for storm debuff/control. It pains me to see hurricane taken later than level 22. I think it's a mistake to not take O2. It is a weaker heal, but it has sleep protection, stun protection, and endurance drain protection in it; it's more like increase density, thaw, or clear mind.

I think that /sonic with over-powered melee range pets would give /cold a run for it. Damage resistance debuff would be huge.
  10. Not sure of your particular playstyle, let me relate mine. My stormers are proactive, but I stay in defensive mode to start. I rarely pull unless I am herdicaning a big group. In the early stages I use gale, a LOT. I push them just to see them fall down and get up. Snow storm is an early hitter, too. It interrupts the embalmed abominations from self-destructing and the mortificators from rezzing.

Steamy mist comes at level 10. With it you get stealth to set up your attack, a smidge of defense for everyone in your AoE, and resistance to FIRE, COLD, Energy. Do you know any hellions, CoT, Lost, Council, or clockwork that use that trifecta? It's a big help. Slot for some endurance and resistances.

Now, here is my heretical advice, once the first attacks are absorbed by alpha strike. I use the bots in concert (all: attack my target) to drop the foes from hardest to easiest. Meanwhile my mastermind keeps folding them back, knocking them down with gale. The robots care not how often they chase a foe that is knocked down. Walls are your friend. In summary, 5 foes at half health are as dangerous as 5 foes at full health. Knock them out! One by one if necessary.

Finally, your protector bot at level 12 is very useful as a healer, and don't forget the extra bubble of defense happiness for you and the other level 1 bots. Also you don't need to prove how tough you are early if you are managing the content, you don't need to work with extra hard mission settings.
  11. Take a walk on the windy side. Mastering the powers of the storm is very satisfying and make you feel very powerful.
  12. Only thing I could think of was Roadkill BarBCue

    Hero MM?

    Hmmm, hero masterminds:

    GI Joe
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
any bad turned good street gang
    sports team?
Johnny Socko and his Giant Robot
  14. I like unchain essence on my human form warshade a lot. Usually some minion goes down in the early fight which you can follow up with the heavy damage of unchained essence, then pop into nova form to clean up. Of course, stygian circle makes you a god.
  15. I would suggest she play a Robots/FF mastermind if her heart is set on a mastermind. I would not suggest a mastermind for the out of the box experience of a new player, perhaps a blaster or corruptor.
  16. I have played this game some 67 months, and this is the first I knew that placing detention field on a anchor/debuff would not shut off the effect on nearby foes. It was my understanding the debuff and the AoE were placed in detention, too. I learn something knew everyday, but sadly I forget more than I learn lately.

My friend uses his rad debuffs on a target of his choosing(usually a boss), then I hit it with detention field so that it can't attack or move(the debuff aura still affects enemies when the anchor is intangible)

This makes sure that it won't be killed until last.

This method can be transfered to any aura debuff such as darkest night, snow storm, etc.

Also, I make the detention field power Bright Red(my normal bubbles are Gold/Blue) to disinguish it and make it easily visible.
If this works this way, it's a change I didn't know about.

    Gone for 2 years

There was much to do about the Mission Architect with the user created content that provided a means for players to level up to 50 in a matter of hours. The devs decided to remove a lot of the abilities associated with 'bridging'. Like it or hate it, I personally think super-sidekicking is one of the best things since they developed the global channels. It's very easy to team up with heroes/villains of varying levels without undue penalty of experience for the higher level members of the team doing lower level teammate's content. Changing mission difficulty smooths out the disparities even more. For example a level 22, 28 and 35 can team together nicely without worrying about the old level restrictions with odd numbers of teammates. The lower 2 are sidekicked up automatically to 34 to do the level 35s missions. If they do the middle guy's, the 22 is 27, and the other two play effectively at level 28 with the the 35 getting proportional level from exemping down to level 28

    TA/Something

You could give TA/sonic a try. Sonic blast lights the Oil Slick. "Light, Dang it LIGHT!"
  20. Teleport wouldn't be bad either. The foes don't have time to react before poison gas trap is down.
  21. Repulsion field has not been a favorite of mine since... oh about I1

I do like Forcebubble, and Repulsion Bomb, too.

On my robot masterminds, I do agree that electric fences is superior to the other AoE immobilizations but I also feel that the mace armor (defense based) matches up better with the defense bubble that I get from the Protector bot. If you have dispersion bubble, all the more reason I feel to pick it up.
  22. In the long long ago, we made a SG on Triumph called Pandemonium. The only requirement for membership was that you have a kb power. Some rooms in missions turned to total chaos with up to 4 hurricanes running. It's where my appreciation for Ice/Storm controllers matured. Our Energy/energy blaster loved it because nothing touched her in all the soup and it was shooting ducks in a barrel. Now if we had peacebringers with that radiant targetted AoE and shield tanks with their shield charge, the carnage would be more gruesome.

Maybe we should revive our chapter on Freedom.

Players have been using both the Cimeroran Map, and the pool along Grandville's outside walls as proof that yes, underwater content could work. However, it misses the point that at some point the developers have at least tested the concept... and that the concept does not work. Quite simply, Back Alley Brawler knows what's he's talking about when it comes to animations, and he also has a handle over just how much work would be involved in such a project... and I have to agree.
    ...
You DO have control over the z-axis in the Midnighter's cave pools, you can move around the surface and then proceed under the bridges. However, as you stated for reasons that haven't been shared in detail the devs ditched the swimming idea. Most likely all the different fighting animation with underwater scenarios would be a nightmare. Just for instance, how would you animate a swimming stormer activating lightning storm underwater?

    ???/Storm help

Ice/Storm has 3 AoE rains that slow, knockdown, and kill anything in the kill zone. Plus you get a nice single target hold for pesky targets like sappers.

Respec missions, Lady Grey Task Forces, and situations where the sheer number of foes can outnumber the ability to buff/heal is where Forcefields SHINE, especially when you extra bubble the reactor core . The Dr. Kahn TF is another good place for a bubbler. I have come to a recent realization if your bubbler is too bored, the team should turn up the spawn level to kick it into the interesting zone.
