Well I was saying over WP. DA has a good mix of resistances that works with arachnos as well. I think that's what makes them so annoying, really; it's not just the psy, it's that they use all of the types so evenly.

A blaster or scapper does have the potential to pull off gauntlet alone, but taunt should pretty much guarantee agro... Who was getting it?

Quote:Odd thing there, good teams always preferred buffs, but lately everyone's caught on. Well at least to cold defenders. Nowadays it seems good teams seem to want at least *someone* with a heal where newb teams ignore the potential for buffs to be outpaced by damage. This is for another reason besides death being more trivial now: potency. Buffs and debuffs offer far more to a team than heals do. Compared to what stacked buffs/debuffs can do, heals do remarkably little for life saving.
On a all Dark Miasma / Storm Summoning STF, Ghost Widow's hold was ticking for 10 damage, if it hit. It normally ticks for around 400. (Extreme example, but straight heals can never offer that kind of safety.)
I guess there's less of the "defender=healor" mentality overall, but more overconfidence by some with IO sets. -

I'd prefer Fire/Fire/Fire largely for fiery embrace (and because I have one and love it.)
-OR-
Spines/DA when you can get a ToE +end proc. You'll probably have to use merits on that one, like one sells on the AH per week and you never know what level -
Quote:I've thought about it on my Fire/Sonic troller, but I'm already at higher resistance to S/L/F than most tanks I knowSonic Resonance + Epic Shield is roughly 66% res to s/l, if you added Tough, it would cap them at 75%.
I've taken Tough on one squishy so far - my Kin/Sonic Defender. I was in melee and taking splash damage enough that is very useful when combined with an epic shield (also 66% res to s/l). The end cost isn't much of a concern either, since I have transference.
So I can conceive some squishies taking Tough.
(Please don't read this as LOLIRBETTERTHANTANK; that's not what I wrote.) -

Kinda depends on timing. It's getting to the end of the semester, so I'm pretty busy :/

Fire/Fire/Fire. If possible, Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire.
Just make sure you play with a tank to hold some of you outRAAAAAgeous aggro! Preferable a Fire/Fire/Fire tank >:]
Maybe you could use some buffs too. Perhaps a Fire/Thermal/Fire controller? -
AR's biggest problem is player perception. It's not bad, people just think it's bad because it's not exactly the same. Pistols kinda got out of this because there are OMGWTFELEVENTYBILLION of the stupid things running around. It seems like a better set than it is just because everyone got excited and made one: This is starting to wear off.
/DEV is admittedly best suited for a pulling playstyle, but it works in most situations.
Pulling? Just make people wait a second, and call when you have enough bombs up. If they don't listen, kick them (in the head.)
Slow and steady? Everything works, and you can probably get away with bombing in-fights. Call rest when you need to re-up your gun drone.
Katamari-style? Use SG/Cloak/Caltrops to mitigate damage, WG and Taser to stop individuals from messing with you. Try to lay a mine while the group is busy punching your friendly neighborhood tank. You can probably also get the gun drone to work sometimes.
Intelligent Skipping? Just rely on SG and Cloak to get you to the target, and try to get some mines in before everyone gets there.
LEROY JENKINS style skipping? Stay cloaked and try not to get concussions from your repeated /headdesks while your teammates repeatedly run in one at a a time and die. Bonus if you have recall friend: say you're just helping with recovery and offer people wakies. -

Oh we're talking about sucking relative to +4/x8 spawns solo? Okay nevermind me saying you don't need softcapped defense then.
And why are we even talking about SR versus that crap? A couple good boss hits and SPLAT! -
Quote:Or just take the hit and don't worry about it! Honestly even if you're not capped, heck even if you JUST had SOs, shield is a bit too strong as is, and has a 3xdps nuke with no drop built in.I have to wonder how everyone and their cousin seems to be shelving their Shield toons simply because they lost a bit of defense to AoE and Ranged. It's not like the BotZ fix (I refuse to call it a nerf because those set bonuses, in all honesty, were way too powerful) has suddenly made Shield completely unplayable. Just reslot yourself a bit to sacrifice some recharge for some more defense and quit crying "doom".

Well and the teammate defense bit is affected by enhancements, yeah? Could be quite nice if you can get people to stay close. Just get a /kin, and they'll yell at anyone who isn't nicely grouped up

My main! I don't always worry about the primary and secondary being of the same origin; you don't have to worry about anything that way! Mine, for instance is a blacksmith who also has magic time manipulation powers. She bought her targeting drone from a store. Three origins there, really!
