I don't think the Paragon Studios folks are going to drop the price any, except in sales. But I could be wrong.

Have fun, folks! And be good... if you can't be good, be careful... or just play bull in the china shop!
I'm only really familiar with one other game, but WoW's vanity pets are all $10; only the mounts are $25. CoH doesn't have mounts, but if they were offering a "pet" which you could ride like a travel power, you might be able to get 2500 points for it. (Or not. WoW also doesn't really have toggles, and the rocket board is inconvenient because of the detoggling.)

But then again, I've never really cared about the MVAS, the other vet reward pet, etc. It's cool that people like them. It's a funny thing about digital goods. Say I'd pay $1 on a whim for the dog. NCsoft is clearly better off with my $1 than without, but there's no way to really sell it to me for the price I'd pay, while still collecting a higher price from someone else who likes pets more. So it makes sense for them to price it so their total revenue is the highest, even if that means I can't get it. (*Sort of. I made this point in another post, but it's better really to maximize the revenue from all products, which may mean selling individual products for less, so people spend more of their overall budget on the CoH store goods instead of other entertainment.)

Preface: I really am unlikely to have a beef with the market. I'll buy what I want and I won't buy what I don't want. It's all a bonus we didn't have before, I'm paying the same sub, more options, etc. I bought into that. (As long as the issue content for vips keeps coming, I'm happy.)

Second preface: I spent 5 years working at a company that sells purely digital downloads (3d art models/textures/etc), and I have two pieces of advice. The first is: you're right to be careful about sales, because people get trained to wait for sales.

The second is: be mindful that your competition is basically "everything else someone can spend their entertainment dollars on". You are competing against hollywood movies, dining out, music, other games (mmo or not), etc. You win by giving people "more" for their money. Let's say for example that you have an option to sell 2k german shepherd at $5, or 5k german shepherds at $2. Which is better? Well, 5k german shepherds. Because you're adding more value to the experience of more players.

    That's my 2 points worth.
Which leads me to my final point: you may be tempted to look at the sales of individual items, and ask: "What is the most we can get for this item?" or "What price lets us get the best revenue from this item?" However, I'd say this is a very dangerous point of view.

    - The more people spend on any given item you sell, the less they have for other things.
    - The more value you deliver, the more likely someone is to spend more of their total discretionary cash on your items. Someone may only spend $5 to buy a german shepherd every other month, but if they can get a german shepherd for $2, and 20 hours of bonus xp for $2, and a costume code for $2, maybe they spend $6. The question is not: do you want to sell the german shepherd, the costume code, and the 20 hours of xp boosters for $2 each. The question is really: do you want $5 or $6 in revenue?

Of course, my example is simplifying the situation. Still...

Some people are going to be willing to pay tons more, but that doesn't make it the best option. We sold products that were $30 for years, and literally years after release garnered more revenue putting them on sale for $2. There really seems to be some hockey-stick line for certain products where people just buy them on a whim. It may be this behavior only kicks in for sales (because ours were not permanent price cuts; although we did buy out products we were brokering and then sell them dirt cheap and make it up on volume.) Running 50% off sales will not necessarily show you what you'd get for 80% off or 90% off. You may discover that you can see 1000 copies of a german shepherd at $5, but that if you sell it for $1, everyone and their mother buys it because it's just a buck. There are inflection points.

(But if you reach those inflection points by having sales, I cannot emphasize enough - people will get used to waiting for them.)
  3. I remember when the level cap was 40. (Twice)

And when 2 recharge SOs made Hasten perma. (A few weeks after launch.)

And when Invulnerability/Unyielding rooted you, so most of the Invuln tanks took teleport.

When scrappers roamed the streets with perma-unstoppable.

When Instant Healing was a fully-enhanceable toggle.

When there was no purple patch and a single /fire tank would Burn down huge swaths of +6s in no time.

When there was no aggro cap.

When there was no diminishing returns on enhancements, and great debates were had about 1acc/5dmg vs 2acc/4dmg and those people taking tohit powers so they could go 6 dmg.

Heck, I remember when people still loved Jack Emmert.

I remember when aoe holds had about 1/4 the recharge and twice the duration they do now.

I remember when there were no AT inherents. (The only powers that had crits were the big ones that have bonus crit chance now.)

I remember when this was an amazing amount of influence to get off of a single sale:

(And then I remember when Nethergoat outed LotGs... my first big market niche.)

I remember getting to L50 on a fire/em tank and getting a screenshot where the pedestrian said, "You have been playing for 0 hours." (or, in other words, I remember Winter Lords in 2004). (And then I deleted because it felt too cheesy.)

I remember when you got one costume slot, and you couldn't change it.

I remember when there was no such thing as a respec.

I remember when there were no capes in the game.

I remember when there was no PvP. At all.

I remember when sonic resonance was changed because so many people claimed it gave them migraines.

    Good times.

Yeah. The relative value is interesting only if you plan to supplement. (Say, you had 10 merits and got 750m for some LotGs, and then were going to add in 1.25b of other money and put up a big on the CH, or such.)
  5. There are a fair number of people who end up buying them with merits and selling them. You have to keep half an eye on the market forum or be ready to pay >2.5b. 10 merits won't make you the 2.5+b you need, but if you're buying LotGs or other high-value IOs it should be semi-close by the end. (say 15*150m = 2.25b, say, buying 15 lotgs with merits.)
  6. SS is very hard to beat because Rage is OP, KO Blow is one of the highest DPCT attacks in any set, and Foot Stomp is pretty good. (And solid for mitigation)

I think fiery melee is being underrated, however. The extra damage of fire and the lower resists against it make it pretty attractive vs SS also. Incinerate is almost the same DPCT as KO blow, albeit a DoT, and fire sword circle is more DPCT and same recharge as foot stomp, albeit no mitigation and a smaller radius. But otherwise it's a very strong set.

I think StJ may well be the strongest single target set, but I'm not that familiar with the mechanics of Kin Melee.
  7. I was doing it with around ~168% (with hasten up, so 98%+hasten), and while it usually barely got around the horn, it didn't feel quite like enough. I am now running +115% + Hasten, and it feels much better.

Technically +135% would be the bare minimum. (300/3.35 = 89.xx); and that assumes you "overload" the recharge in the power to get to 100%; otherwise it would be +140%.

But the more of that that comes from Hasten, of course, the more you have to pad because Hasten will be down. (Until you hit perma-hasten, of course)

Anyhow. I think somewhere in the +105%+Hasten would be comfortable. If you really want to do it without Hasten running, then you should probably aim for +145%ish.
  8. Wait, do we get tokens every month now? Pre-launch, they were 1-for-3-months + 1-per year, right? (like, I've been subbed since launch and I think I got 38, which was like 87/3 + 7 plus a bonus or two for owning the boxed expansion, iirc)

    Now they speed up?
  9. It seems I have no way to tell when the 7 day cooldown on SSA rewards is up, and since I have like 20+ toons I can and do run that type of content on, that makes it really hard to know if I should or not. Can we get a reward cooldown window?

(It wouldn't hurt to throw in E-merit and A-merit rewards)

I was figuring that the SSA rewards 1-week would be on a weekly thing like the WST are, so tuesday morning->monday night was one week, and you could get the reward once per "week", but not 7 literal days apart, but apparently not.

Funny you should mention it... yes.

My tabletop gaming group decided we'd play CoH together. And I remember being in the beta from preordering, maybe 2 weeks before go-live. And I make it to level 14, and bought fly... and was like.... hoooooooly cow, I'm going to be playing this game for a long time.

    (8 years later...)

Yeah, but then you die. I'd actually really like to see a revamp to the ui in general that did this. One of the things I really appreciated playing That Other Game(tm) was how much you could customize the ui with mods; Power Auras is an amazing mod that lets you display visuals on your screen in a super-customizable way based on all sorts of in-game conditions. Less than 5 seconds left on a specific buff? Oh, look, there's a hazy yellow halo around the middle of the screen that reminds me it's about to wear off.

Something like a right click "Show this buff in the middle of the screen when it is expiring" choice would be awesome, so I could get a faded outline of a light form icon in the center of the screen at, say, 10s to go.

What's interesting is, I was thinking to myself, "Maybe I'd pay like $10 for an xp bonus that would see me through most of my leveling". And then I was thinking: "I could probably get through 1-50 in about 40 hours on a reasonable solo toon with some IOs."

And then I did the math, and lo and behold, $10 for 40 hours would be almost exactly 1/4 of this price.

So in a roundabout way, I found myself thinking exactly this.

(BTW, I have very little interest in xp boosters or self-rezzes per se, so I don't care a lot about the pricing, but I am a guy who had no problem dropping $400 the first week in the store, so when my gut feeling is, "Woah, that's expensive", that might mean something, fwiw. So my pricing feedback will hopefully be construed as for-the-benefit-of-Paragon.)

So, never minding that basically, on sale, this is $2 for a single in game rez...

There are a lot of powersets that currently have rez powers, and you have a very brief moment of vulnerability as you rez before the invulnerability kicks in. It's possible to die again in that brief moment between resurrection and invulnerability, and I've read a redpost before that talks about how this is a game engine limitation.

So, that's all fine and dandy for powersets, where no one intends to die and they are, after all, usually useful.

But if I paid $2-$3 to resurrect my character and literally died one second later, I would probably flip out.

Has the tech behind this changed to avoid that happening?

So, suggestion by way of making this more useful so people might actually give you money:

    - Instead of doing it as a number of charges, how about offering a 30 day resurrection power on a 30-minute/1-hour timer? Basically, something similar to the jet pack. Or something similar to the newspaper/radio mission resurrection reward, perhaps. I think people would see that as a much better value, and someone leveling a character in a "high risk" way (say, lunatics like myself who were fond of trying to solo huge packs of mobs in Perez Park on fire blasters) might see it as valuable.

Or, alternately, you could make it a lot cheaper. I could maybe, just MAYBE see paying like $1 for 5 charges. (Maybe it's hard for me to value this, since I play a fire blaster who practically uses Rise of the Phoenix as part of his rotation).

    Human Form PB

    First, /blush.

As far as the light form changes, I'm a fan. I was inspired to make a human form partially because, thematically, a Peacebringer fits really well with the sweet new celestial wings. Floating around as a ball of light 100% of the time would ruin that.

Of course, I think the changes are as much or more of a boost to tri-forming as they are to human form play; but I've been meaning to "try out" human-only since the damage coefficients were boosted back in Issue 13. I always did like the "do it all" thing, which is why I am not giving up on things like Glowing Touch and Provoke in my human build... if I can't seriously multitask, then I'd rather just go with forms.

I will say that the mez protection from Light Form is definitely very light. I'm probably still going to be inclined to run Clarion as a destiny power.

I feel like there's still room to buff PBs, though. I could see changing Pulsar to be mag 3 100% of the time rather than a 50/50; I could see swapping the toggle shields to be defensive toggles instead; I could see boosting human form ranged/melee coefficient to 1.0 like SoAs. Still, things are a mile ahead of where they used to be.

Anyhow, I'll post an update to my OP build once I get my hands on a Panacea: Heal. I realized you can use quantum flight+quantum acceleration now for high speed flight, so I'm revamping.

    New This Week?

    I've got 1600 points I'll pay for /craftingtable

    Just sayin'.
  17. Plasma

    Human Form PB

Yeah, I don't think I'd pay for them independently. But I bought like 20k points of other stuff (mostly ah/salvage/recipe/enh inventory storage boosts which are all account wide). That gave me like 17 reward tokens, but I already had all tier 1-8 and the tier 9 VIP stuff from being a long time vet. So you can trade those extra reward tokens for 25 boosters each.
  18. Plasma

    Human Form PB

Well, my slotting would be differen without enh boosters. I am actually ED capping in a lot of places it doesn't show via ~100 boosters. (all the res/rech and heal rech are +5s, all the attacks are dmg capped that way)
  19. Plasma

    Human Form PB

That's definitely inspiringly good. I'll have to play around with this and see how it feels and then chase defense depending on how it performs; but I like what you did a lot. One issue is that I'd like to be able to provoke to hold aggro, and throw out heals, since it feels like there's a lack of healing sometimes in things like Keyes, so I like the idea of being able to mix it up. Still, all that defense is nice.

I'll have to do some math with the procing; I think it will be worth is because you get so many chances to proc on those fast recharge/low cast attacks.
  20. To compensate, they should make the crafting table accolade account-wide.

    Human Form PB

    Even with quantum acceleration up?
  22. Plasma

    Human Form PB

It's been a long while since I've played my peacebringer. I was once a huge fan. I wrote a really long guide. I wrote a story, they put it in the comic. I was attached to him. But the change that stopped us from detoggling forms mid-animation basically ruined the feel for me.

Fast forward: Issue 21. Perma-Inner Light and Perma-Light Form, along with the several-issues-old buff to human form base damage indexes, make a pure human form attractive to me. That, and some seriously expensive IOs, and a reasonably large number of enhancement boosters, and you have something fairly abusive.

The goal here is to go ahead and be the "all things at once" PB. It can AoE blast, melee pretty rapidly for high damage, and tank using Provoke. And it can bomb out some fairly good heals in the process if needed. (And honestly, glowing touch is pretty amazingly cool looking, that short range just ruined it. Yay!)

Note that almost anywhere where stats aren't capped (the IOs in inner light, all of the 3 dual-type IOs like the trio in Light Form) I'm probably using enh boosters.

(Oh, and the group energy flight with the weird IOs is really quantum acceleration.)

  23. I happen to have 30 alignment merits and I'm in need of a 3% resist io. I'll get a 3% def io of whatever level you prefer and swap it for a 3% resist io (any level is fine).

If the def IO is popular enough that someone wants to offer +influence on top of a straight trade I'll obviously select that preferentially. PM here or whisper @plasma. Thanks!
  24. Hopefully this is unintentional, because my #1 place for using /ah was my base. When I do it now I get "The auction house is not reachable from your current location."
