  1. Heya Grae. I've been subbed since Going Rogue, really. The new incarnate stuff really does give you a reason to continue playing your 50s again. The Praetorian stuff is pretty cool, too. When you get the chance you should try out the Apex and Tin Mage Task Forces, but you'll need to get something in your Alpha slot for that.
  2. Dark/Dark gets pretty safe once you get your controlling tools (Fearsome Stare, Fluffy). Mine solos stuff without any problems, since the enemy's tohit is pretty much floored after fearsome stare, my two cones, and dark servant's stuff.

Not to mention Dark Miasma has one of the most powerful heals in the game, and the most powerful res, which also functions as a huge AoE debuff. Need more damage? Tar Patch. Enemys hitting you too much? Darkest Night. You could even add in the dark mastery APP for soul drain and oppressive gloom for even more hilarity.

    I Demand....

I'd rather not pick any option. Why would I want my name to be an ugly yellow or purple? Yuck!
  4. Buff your own team with things like ice shields, speed boost, etc. For empaths and other defenders with auras, then sure you can buff as many people as you can.

A 18/24 man league should have more than one defender, anyway. If anybody ever kicks you for not buffing each and every person on a league, then you don't want to be in that league anyway.
  5. I'm torn between Void for my dark/dark/soul defender or Pyronic.

One, void is PBAoE, but since dark miasma's heal is based on people around you, that should work to your advantage, but on the other hand: You're a defender. By the time you get in melee range most things have probably already been killed, but you don't want to rush into melee first because then you die.

Pyronic solves the PBAoE problem, but now you're more tempted to stay at range, whereas the melees will most likely need the healing more.

Even though I got void first, I'm kinda leaning towards switching to Pyronic. What do you guys think?

Does the system count healing and buffing as participation? What about debuffing? Do pets attacking count? The drops need to be more balanced.
I think it's random which reward table you get, which is stupid. But at the same time it allows people to get commons/uncommons/rares without having to stand around doing nothing.

  8. I wouldn't say "BAF never gets old." so much as say "you never know if the league your in absolutely sucks or will actually listen to the leader"

Aside from that, it is nice to know that CoH is probably one of the only RP friendly MMOs left in the world.

You sure they were randoms that haven't done it before?

Having something posted on the forums beforehand like "We're gonna be testing the LFG menu out at so-and-so EST, so come and queue up!" means it's no longer a random team.

And if you happen to have the majority of people on the team know what they're doing, that's great. But with the LFG queue you're more than likely to find 6-7 randoms who don't know how it works and who have never done anything requiring coordination before than finding 6-7 randoms who know how to do the trials but are on alt characters.

And it would also be unfair to say, "Oh we got a team of randoms that all knew how to do it and have run it millions of times before, and 75% of the team had their judgements and destinies and lores, too, so obviously any random team can do it!"
  10. About 6-7 BAFs. All success.

about 8 or so Lambdas. Two failures. One PuG, who the LFG thingy was so kind as to only give us ONE team when Lambda clearly needs two, and the other a premade.

All the successes were premades. I think it's safe to say that they're hard enough that only premades can really do them. No, that's not a good thing, especially when the LFG widget doesn't work properly for the trials. (Yeah, I'm sure if you were super coordinated one team could do lambda. But are you honestly expecting a PuG which could be full of people who never ran it before to do it with one team? Honestly I think the LFG thing should fill up to the maximum number allowed, just to give the randoms who use it a chance)
  11. Considering the difficulty of coordinating 3 teams on the final phase when both Siege and Nightstar are both together, I'd think this would really only be possible if the league was filled only with people who have done the BAF enough times to know exactly what to look for, and exactly what to do when their AV has lower health than the other teams.

For many people, having to *gasp* slow down or even stop attacking a single target in front of you when there is no other targets in sight is a strange and foreign thing. The usual "SIEGE!" "NIGHTSTAR!" on league chat won't work.

That's not to say it couldn't work, of course. Just that it would be hard to pull off.
  12. Though we failed the Lambda trial, I was still able to unlock my judgement slot as well as get 2/3 of the common components for the tier 1 void judgement attack. If we completed Lambda, I would have had it. But hey, beggers can't be choosers and we can always run the trials again today for even more threads/iexp.

I wouldn't mind, actually. Better than running with pugs :P
  14. So let's see...I know the empy merits you can only get two of (one per trial) a day (I think, right?) but what about Astral merits? Is it the same in that you can only get them per day?

Let's not start blaming everybody. A lot of people have NEVER EVER SET FOOT IN THE TRIALS BEFORE except for this team.

For that, everybody did a wonderful job. Lambda just needs to be explained a bit better and practiced.

  17. I'll come as Shadewing, my dark/dark defender.

I wanna see if these trials are as bad as they first appear.
  18. So OP, are you telling me that throughout your whole game experience you have never used Sands of Mu? The temperary power/veteran reward versions? Because it's as much DoT as the two-tick of damage dual blades attacks are.

Considering electric/electric doesn't benefit from permadom nearly as much as the other combinations, I don't understand why people are so fixated on "PERMADOM OR YOU'RE USELESS!" especially for a set that only effects like what? 2-3 powers?

So my level 20 character still in DOs can beat your level 50 with maximum purples and PVP sets because I'm more skillful?

    Not going to happen.

Even a level 50 in SOs/standard IOs has no chance against a character specifically built for PVP.

Hell, even a level 50 with a few sets here and there has no chance against a character specifically built for PVP. They will have soft-capped defenses regardless of their AT, permahasten, tons of +damage and +HP/Regen over you.

There's no skill at all involved in CoH's PVP. It's all about whoever pumps the most money into their character.

    PvP Boot Camp

How to PVP in CoH: Have billions of influence, make FotM character, purple the heck out of said character.

    Nothing else competes. Ever.

Oh, and be sure to bring along a pocket empathy defender and fire blaster.

I'm thinking perhaps Pulse hands it over to her client (one of your characters perhaps AI?) who then infects himself.
I do believe this event was meant for everyone to participate in and be important in, not just the level 50+1s who can destroy entire continents. I could bring Pinny in and since she is a softcapped level 50+1 scrapper she could easily defeat anyone who has the virus before it even spreads, but that wouldn't be very fun, would it?
  23. isn't claws like the best DPS set?

While it's possible that dual blades out damages claws (I haven't ran a side by side comparison, just saying), claws still has lower recharges on all their powers compared to other sets, so claws will attack more often. That and claws has two ranged attacks: One single target and one cone. Dual Blades has no ranged abilities at all outside of power pools.

DB does flow together nicely, though.

However Motley, if you can list a pro of DB being "not a wolverine clone" then I can list a pro of claws being "Not a deadpool clone." Fair?

Plenty of time to try more esoteric combinations once you've gotten the basic idea down by leveling something that has good synergy.
Or if they are given something more powerful than any other combination, whenever they do try something else it will be seen as weak and useless, and therefore they will also go on the forums saying "go X/Y or you suck because everything else is bad."

The beauty of CoH is that no powerset combination is useless; they all work very well. Telling somebody they shouldn't be so and so set but instead be FotM set is taking away 75% of the game.
  25. I find it funny how people here seem to complain about how the demons constantly howl.

Do you constantly complain about the sounds scrappers make when they attack, too?
