It seems (clear to me, at least) that this pack was a very quick accessory pack to tide over the predominantly female playergroup that was offended by the gunslinger pack. None of the pieces seem to be blatantly pandering to the male playerbase, the masks, head details, sash, and boots are all AWESOME.

the maces are a nifty touch.

It's not really a costume pack, it's even labeled as "Carnival of Light costume pieces (FEMALE ONLY)".

Granted, some mouth breather is going to say "it's costume pieces, it's a pack" but it's really just 4 parts:
    detail
    mask
    sash
    boot
with options. A heck of a lot less than other packs. And that's if you accept the argument that "weapons aren't costume pieces and don't count."

When this hits live, you can expect a lot of complaints from the same people that said it wasn't a big deal when the gunslinger pack came out.

Which is really weird because when they were asking us about the upcoming sci-fi retro pack, the biggest suggestion I made was to go ahead and release smaller packs of costume parts and to make them gender exclusive rather than attempting to appease both groups at the same time with rehashed stuff. I know that people will get upset with perceived "missing" costume content, but it allows the art team the opportunity to experiment more, and I'm confident it will actually lead to better new stuff.

I seriously didn't expect something to already be in the pipeline.
  2. When I first saw the Girlfriends from Hell, I chuckled because I thought it was a clever character. Then I realized I was in a mission. Then I laughed. Then they hurt me. And I stopped laughing.

Personally I think the Girlfriend from Hell is a continuation of the "Hellion Girlfriend" and "Skulls Girlfriend" characters you see around every once in a while. Hilarious in hindsight to think that they're actually calling the shots, manipulating the Hellions like that and you don't even know at first, either.

Now personally I think there are concepts that SHOULD end after specific level ranges. I thought it was awesome that the snakes just stop appearing after mercy island, with very rare appearances in port oakes. It's cool that you can say you helped completely destroy them, and that they only exist within a certain timeframe.

This game's "level range equals time" mechanic is very cool and it's one of the things I like most about leveling. You actually CAN get the message "Sorry, you took too long, someone else handled it or it never got done" or somesuch message. That's neat. I like that. And sometimes entire groups of baddies can be classified that way too.

    C'mon Newb!

Just the other day, after hitting 50, while getting help in preparation for Mender Ramiel's arc (because trapdoor was a pretty tough fight when I had tested it on the beta server)...

I found out that there are two ouroboroses. One for heroes, and one for villains.
I never thought they were seperate! Of course, in my defense, I'd never actually had reason to try grouping cross faction there before.

And it makes sense when you think about it more, but it was completely out of left field for me.

Meaning it will probably be back at some point, but there's no telling when or for how long. Maybe it'll be back this time next year, maybe two years from now, maybe never.

*which, yes, will be when the yet-to-be-announced third set hits us, so there's still plenty of time.
That was just me being funny. I don't seriously believe that the Celestial set is going to go away forever, even if that were the plan, there'd be enough whining between now and the heat-death of the universe to bring it back.

(Because this game will probably last that long)

    2. The devs have gone to great lengths to make ambush farms worthless in AE, I can't imagine them selling a power on the Market that would allow you to turn any x8 mission into an ambush farm. Yeah, with the right toon you can already farm Freakshow on an outdoor map or whatever, but being able to bring them all to you would make it much quicker.
That is a very valid point. one humongous gigantic ambush would be pretty crazy. maybe if it had a cooldown comparable to the auto-completion cooldown? if you could only benefit from it once a day (call the debuff "temporary gong deafness" or something lol) then it would be a little more balanced. It would still be an absolute blast to pull out every once in a while, and it would be loads of fun to challenge your team by asking, "are we within gong range now, or are there too many enemies left on the map?"
  6. If you're T8 you have plenty of time. They've said that a new set will be available while the celestial stuff is still available, and when the THIRD tier 9 exclusive stuff comes out, you'll lose the opportunity to get celestial.

    Forever!

    So, proof?
    everything is possible.
It's a matter of whether it's feasible or not.

    MM toss up?

I have a Bots/Dark MM and I'll say that Dark has some really awesome tricks. firstly, you get an extra pet. You can't rename him, but the dark servant is really intimidating. Mine lasts 4 minutes but has a 4 minute 5 second cooldown, and my global recharge is improved such that I can keep the pet around as long as necessary. he does a LOT. he fears, he heals, he holds, he just flat out rocks. dark also gives you tar patch right off the bat which is an aoe that debuffs the enemy's damage. and darkest night must be bugged or something because when I hit enemies with it they just don't even bother trying to fight me, they just run away (which I make harder by slowing them down).

haven't tried thermal, but I have a demons/time mastermind, and it's pretty crazy. one thing though: those demons are annoying. they yell a LOT. be sure to name them something that makes you feel less bad about them when they die. Mine are: Politician, Lawyer, Lobbyist, Dictator, Big Time CEO, and Telemarketer. I get a good laugh from the group every time I send them in to die.

  10. 1. The "gong of doom" really it could be anything but a gong works so whatever. Basically works like this: I get tired of marching through the map looking for the stragglers, or maybe I'm just lazy and I want the monsters to come to me. I use the gong, and every single enemy on the entire mission map starts marching to my location. Not only is this a cool way to save time (and creates a new form of gameplay for veterans who know how to whoop up on enemies like a boss) but it could be sold by the individual use. pay 40 points, get 5 uses of the gong. If you're in a group, make sure everyone has to click the gong or whatever when it gets used so that you run into less griefing problems. outlaw it in some zones, make some enemies immune. You might even make it where the enemies attack the gong if there's no player there, and the rest of the enemies stop when the gong is gone, to prevent players from plopping it down just to round up the enemies for one massive multi-judgement strike.

    2. A teleporter to the Midnighters' club, along with the access badge. (saw someone else mention this, agreed it was awesome)

    3. Field crafter (I know, unlikely, but hey), perhaps not the badge, but the power that it unlocks would be great even if it was on a 5-day cooldown.

    4. A less-powerful version of the signature summons power. (which requires reward points, and tier 9 status)

    5. Those super inspirations. Seriously, I tried those out on the beta server and I'm jealous. they're amazing.
  11. The Carnival of Light pack is really nifty - It's got head accessories, a belt, some nice boots (two versions), and some maces if you like war maces.
I love the sash belt. it's not symmetric!
  12. Some characters I might be able to do it all the way to 50, like a defender or something, but I keep looking at these wonderful new powers I'm getting and I want to use them.

That's ridiculous. Saying "If you do this some customers will be angry enough to not be customers, but it doesn't matter how many of them there are" is just so blatantly oblivious to the point that I don't know if you're thinking straight.

That's it. I thought that would make you understand some people's positions better, as I got the impression from your post that you didn't.
    Now you're just confused.

Let me paint a picture for you:

If I said "If you disagree with me, you will die." You would imply a direct causation between the two events, even if what I meant was "If you disagree with me, you will die someday, and I have no idea how."

It's also far more likely that you will die someday regardless of whether you disagree with me or not.

So let's put this into context:

You claim some people will stop being customers if super packs happens.
They know super packs will happen.

Thus they are stating they will not be customers for long.
Will refraining from releasing super packs retain these customers? NO.
There is insufficient evidence to even suggest that preventing super packs will "save" these customers. They have stated they'll cancel their subs, this does NOT mean that the cancellation isn't forced anyways. They may decide to cancel their subs because they are bankrupt and can't afford it in the first place. They may decide to cancel their subs regardless of whether the super packs are released, because the company decided to even entertain the idea.

I, for one, quit World of Warcraft for an entire year because of the Real ID debacle, and told them to delete my posts from all their forums and ban my account permanently as I didn't want to be associated with them. I did this DESPITE them retracting their position because I wanted them to feel it. It was not enough that they "changed their mind" about declaring war against my privacy. Did they feel it? I don't know, but I do know their subscriber numbers have been downward sloping since, despite my coming back to the game.

The number of people who will actually quit being customers over this is a HUGE part of your argument even if you dismiss it. And denying that does not help you.

Thinking about it more: If more of the things in Super Packs other than costume parts appealed to me, I might buy them, but. As is, they are distressing to me to interact with. I don't like the random aspect, and I probably want the costume parts. But I don't want to buy a bunch of random stuff to get costume parts. So I find them distressing.

If they weren't the only way to get costume parts, I might go buy the costume parts -- and then super packs would no longer be distressing, so if I liked what they had on offer, I might get them.

    Go figure.
    That's a compelling argument.

But how could it be tested?

Have two different kinds of super packs? each has a different set of costume pieces that can be unlocked, but only one of them gives the option of obtaining the costume parts in a different way? then Paragon would be able to determine which set of packs earned more money. But how could that even be a fair comparison if the costume parts had differing levels of desirability?

I suspect that whichever costume part was rarer, even if it were identical to another, would be more desirable. Rarity creates and enhances demand.

You still don't even acknowledge that those groups could be tiny.

And I suspect that they are.

    2) Costume set is available via superpacks AND for purchase directly like other costume parts.

Let's examine 4 types of people that want the costume parts:

    a) Is against gambling with real money in any form, and won't ever buy Super Packs.

    b) Is against using exclusive items to coerce people who otherwise wouldn't gamble into gambling with real money, and won't buy Super Packs if they contain exclusive items on principle. Otherwise is at least willing to gamble.

    c) Doesn't like gambling, but would gamble if they had to to get costume parts they wanted

    d) Likes gambling.

So, if #1 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from c and d. If #2 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from d and maybe some money from b, and money from a, c, and maybe b from the purchased costume sets.

All 4 types are customers, and are willing to pay money, and a and b won't pay money unless there is an alternate way to pay money for it that they don't find distasteful. Does that make sense?
At the risk of sounding like a complete ***** I have to mention...

Nobody knows how big any of those 4 groups are, if you really want to divide all the people who play this game into those 4 groups.

Furthermore, any kind of segregation like that is just patently offensive, if not to anyone else, at least to me.

I do not play this game for costume parts that aren't in the game, haven't been seen yet, might be exclusive to randomized packs, might not, might be completely hideous, might be ******* amazing, might be exclusive to the huge body type, might be completely bizarre like tuna maces or male only fishnets or indian chief headdresses, or for other stuff in those packs.

I play the game because it's fun and these super packs do not infringe on that in any way.

If they add to the game, however little, and give me yet another thing to work on while I might be working towards some very lofty goal that requires a lot of hard work, maybe I could use something like a shot at an exclusive costume piece to tide me over while I try and motivate myself to unlock the destiny slot or the magnificent slot or the lacy underwear slot or whatever.

    It's not mandatory!

    Stalker changes

For a simple change to assassin's strike:

make it much faster to perform, eliminating most of the "charge up" part of it.
make it deal much less damage to begin with, keep its current cooldown.
Make it deal more damage from stealth.

thus, outside stealth it's as good as any other (of those first 4 powers) power, possibly slightly weaker.
inside stealth it's roughly equal to before, possibly slightly less powerful to account for the increase in sustained damage.

but most importantly: give some variance between sets for it. it's ok if one powerset has a slightly slower AS but adds a small debuff to the enemy to make it worth it. experiment a bit while it's on the beta server. have a little fun with it, you never know how cool and unique you can make it.
  21. A clones mastermind could be fun.

I can picture getting into trouble for naming mine Narcissa.
  22. Rocket Nunchakus!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiuEl...eature=related

(skip to the 4 minute mark to see them in action!)
  23. There's a tier 9 vip power that can be purchased multiple times which summons a powerful ally to assist you.

as a villain it'll summon black scorpion, scirroco, ghost widow, mako, or lord recluse. dunno about the hero side; cuz they suck.
