  1. Anyone running CoH from a Solid State Drive (SSD)

Does it cut down the zoning time appreciably?

    Curious to know.

  2. I was very disappointing on the second week of the 'new' maintenance schedule, when we had -finally- moved from the 'every week except perhaps if the moon is full' Tuesdays, when maintenance hit, often and EARLY, and on WEDNESDAY we get hit with a 'publish' (which is just maintenance under a different name).

Yeah, I understand it's for CONTENT, but still,it's a major inconvenience.

It ruined our night, after six months of continually ruined nights.

I really hoped the recent 'new schedule' would work, but honestly, if these guys leave CoH, I'm folllowing them out the door -- broken promises and all that.

    Excession.

  4. Speaking as someone who has been screwed over by maintenance dozens of times, this is probably the best CoH news in the past four years.

As I said in the Oceanic thread about Maintenance, thanks for listening, and I really hope it works out.
  5. I'm impressed that the NCSOFT people have decided to try changing the schedule.

Really impressed with reducing from 2 days a week to one, it's a huge difference to move it to Thursday instead of Friday as well, simply huge.

On this basis alone, I will continue to be a subscriber.

Thankyou to those people in NCSOFT who have taken steps to alleviate the maintenance-in-prime-time nightmare. Especially nice that we have been informed of the change, and so we poor sufferers know that there is respite on the horizon.

Perhaps the Tuesday role-play sessions will roll again now, instead of being chopped off at the knees

  6. Maintenance on Tuesday is guaranteed, Yet Another X8.2 day anihilated.

My patience is almost done. NCSOFT doesn't 'care' for Australian patronage, fine, I'll take my monthly fee elsewhere, there are plenty of other MMO's out there.

After five years, I've got a backlog of good single-player games which I have hardly touched.

Maintenance times shifting smack into prime-time, being extended, and being repeatedly incurred on -any- day of the week, it's a slap in the face for all the stuff-arounds we've endured.

I think I'll be announcing my formal resignation from CoH before Christmas.

    Excession.
  7. I'm 51, my dad played and he's 73 or so,
  8. Sure does suck.

Triffic stuff, Lili. I do not know HOW you do that organisational stuff, having 20+ people winding through the missions, getting the badges, all whilst you're dying horribly to ++ content (I had to giggle a bit when you fell down, yet again, after berating my L8 character for faceplanting on entry).

    Excellent work.

On Justice I use Australia a lot, but JFA2010 is a good one for organising teams as well.
Justice Badges too. And if you can wing it, Team Awesome

  11. I'm @AQ-Excession. I live in Canberra, Australia, been here since 1978, it's a nice place, but don't believe me, I prefer people stay away.

Been playing CoH since May 2004, with a 5 month break off for good behaviour in 2005, rejoined in Jan 2006, and been loving it.

I have about 90 active characters, mostly heroes, across

    # Server
    27 Justice
    21 Freedom
    17 Virtue
    11 Victory (Villains only).
    8 Infinity
    6 Liberty

Member of many supergroups, always causing trouble in #australia, done dozens and dozens of 'old style' Hamidon raids with Archvillain Q, my (First) L50 character, a Fire/Fire blaster. Currently have 14 characters on Justice alone who have earned the Task Force Commander accolade. (all six of the numbered Task Forces).

@graal is prolly the person I've known longest, poor guy. :-)

If you need a Supergroup on Justice, just send me a tell in game, our supergroup Architects of the Silver Lining, has plenty of room for other people.
  12. I'm late to this party. Lets get it started.

Lag: Whole of last week. Netgraph showed frequent red spikes and everything was rubberbanding. Almost unplayable. But after last Friday's downtime the lag was unnoticable and gameplay became smooth like before.

I had the same problem last year and it stopped after 2 weeks or so. When this happens other online games I play have no lag problems, so I'm pretty sure something went funky in the routing between the player and the server and not an ISP problem as a whole.

For my case I think it was due to the earthquakes in Taiwan of recent. As our routing to the U.S. goes through there.
Exactly the same here (Canberra, Australia, through ISP Netspace).

Freedom/infinity etc were a sea of red spikes, unplayable.
    Virtue/Justice was 'cut grass'.

After Friday's maintenance, Freedom/Infinity went back to being cut-grass, so something changed at NCSOFT's end.

No chances to my setup, my ISP. During the bad lag I tried resetting my ADSL modem to no avail, was getting many hundreds of 'lost in' packets, and the red was 25%+ of the netgraph.

    There was -something- badly wrong.

Been fixed for a few days now tho. Funny people started a thread about it.
  14. OOh, so now my 'friend' won't be able to un-sk me when we're in the thick of a fight.

    I LIKE!

No, really, I want to shout out AWESOME, echoing each and every other poster who has suggested Awesomeness.

    Well done Posi and Team.

    (and the email fix, bliss).

    • Split maintenance between East and West coast for all NON UPDATE maintenance periods. East coast for 2 hours, then west coast for 2 hours, or vice versa.
    • Change regular maintenance to Monday/Thursday instead of Monday/Friday
    • Recipe storage
    • Global account-based storage for anything -- enhancements, salvage, recipes, inspirations, 'non-tradable' salvage like Reward Merits.
Perhaps restricted to Global Account Villains and Global Account Heroes, since the markets are detached/separate.
    • 7 year Vet Award: Ability to skip to ANY desired level (even a L50) from creation of new character.
    • Amalgamation of all 'bonus' powers/features as they accrue past 5 years, so that they are available to all (special costume bonuses, powers from various booster packs etc). That is, you get up to 5 years of 'being special' with your purchased special power, but 5 years after inception, they are awarded to all.
    • Better/revamped BASE editor -- it has always sucked, hard, and it has never gotten better, only worse.
    • Merge the Tram lines, add hazard zones to tram lines (so I can go from Atlas to Boom, or Peregrine to KR without multiple trips).
    • Get RID of the door open/door closed "blockers" to accessing zones -- that is, remove the tram station requirement for a 'tram' to be there. Remove Pocket D 'delay' in accessing exit door, because someone else just 'used' it'; stop Cimerora final battle from being a lagfest waiting for the big doors to be 'clickable'. That kind of thing.
    • Increase Global Channels per account from 10 to 50.
    • Increase Slots Per Server from max of 36 to 50.
    • Increase "basic" slots per server from 12 to 20.
    • Have a command for 'quit to logon screen' which doesn't have a 30 second delay and doesn't require accessing a menu. (/buycoh has drawbacks).

  15. Playing my first blaster, in Talos Island, having just got Ice Storm, I said to our group (waiting for leader to get a mission), the famous words

    HEY, WATCH THIS

    Aim
    Buildup

Charge into a large group of Warriors, and get one-shot by a Hewer Elite before I could get off my power.

Everyone on the team laughed, half-thinking that I'd suicided on purpose. I was mortified, since I'd meant to obliterate the group with my stupid little AOE power.

That was in 2004. I have seen many people say 'hey, watch this' just before they did something exceptionally stupid.
  16. (Can't believe I'm replying to this non-thread)

American's get confused so easily by the language.

Whereas non-native speakers never complain, they just cope.

Look at Sam T -- his posts are full of nicely formed paragraphs, full sentences, fleshed out communications. He doesn't whine about extra u's or using z's instead of s's in words like 'capitalisation'. He just writes and -context- dictates the meaning.

People who chuck a wobbly over extra (or fewer) letters in words, are really engaging in Not Invented Here games. They are whining because they can, not because they are trying to solve any real issue.

Show me someone who doesn't know what Armour is and is confused until someone spells the word 'armor', and i'll show you an average MA team leader, doing L54 boss missions with his level seven tanker ... (who has no plans in this lifetime to take 'taunt')

    Capisce?
  17. Is that a hint, Hobo? :-)

I have plans for that windfall. Lots and lots of IO sets for my Ice/Rad controller. LOTS.

Good to see a discussion going on about the market, hope things are being cleared up rather than muddied.
  18. If you want to code a macro that you wish to keep in a text file (for reading in with /bindloadfile <path:\filename>), code the macro as follows

    $$macro YIP team YIPPEE!
$$macro OO g Hey world, Level($Level) $Archetype looking for team
    $$macro *Q* buycoh

That last one is the excellent 'fast "quit to logon"' command mentioned elsewhere in the player guides thread.

You can then load those macros on any characters you care to, by doing

    Code:
    /bindloadfile c:\covbinds\mybindsfile.txt
    Hope that helps.

    That is absolutely false.

Bidding is always HIGHEST bid above the asking price, gets the prize. That has always been the case with the market,

if you put up something for sale for 1 inf, someone has a bid of 100,000, someone else has 99,999,999, and someone else has bid 200,000,001, the 200,000,001 will win the bid process, and the 1inf 'thing' will get his 200M.

This is why I sell all my 'common' salvage for 333inf, even when they are 'worth' 100,000 or more at 'market prices', if someone is bidding high, I'll get their money even though I only put the item up for 333. This saves load of mental anguish. And contrary to some people's beliefs, selling common salvage at 333 -always- works. Someone will buy it even if it's common as dirt. If there is a run on stuff (like Alchemical Silver, which has been 60,000+ for over a year) I'll get my 60,000 for my alchemical silver, but I only bothered to put it up for 333.

For RARE RECIPES, I don't take such cavalier risks, because someone might very well get creative with their bidding, 10 @ 5, 10 @ 6, 10 @ 7 , etc. People see the number of bidders as 'people bidding near-or-at-current-market-rates, and it's not always true.

How else do you think recipes worth $,$$$,$$$ go for 111 at the market sometimes? It costs next to nothing to put up huge numbers of small bids. With 15 transaction slots, I can put up 15 * 10 lots of bids for, say, 20, and have 150 bidders on an item. The real bidders might still be out there, but if all the real bidders are gone, and all that is left are you 150 lowball bids, and someone puts up a 50M item for 1, you've just got yourself a bargain for just a few tens of inf, and one very surprised marketteer going Whisky Tango Foxtrot?

So if you have 85 bidding, you wouldn't expect a 45,000,000 item to only have a highest bid of 7,500, that's ridiculous.

I have noticed that the market number are very fluid. One second there were 75 bidding, the next there was one. I've crafted stuff for sale for 10M or so, only to have the previously 'bouyant' market of 0 for sale, 5 bids, to be -actually-, 0 for sale 0 bids.

    That annoys me.

So does Tuesday, "surprise" Wednesday and "super surprise" Thursday maintenance IN ADDITION to Monday and Friday regular maintenance ... Grrrr.

  20. Terrific mod. Downloaded, installed, when I FINALLY found the little S (bottom right of Firefox) to put in the script, I was rocked by the new look forum.

    10 stars.

Now, can you fix the Player Guides forum, all the links are borked. :/

  21. On Wednesday (my time) I did an Imperious Task Force on Freedom with Ace Rimmer, my L41 Ice/Rad controller, and found a Purple recipe, a Hecatomb damage/something, which was worth upwards of 200Million on the market.

The last three sales were 210,000,000. 230,000,000, and 250,000,000. Since there were 0 for sale, and 75 bidding, I put it up for 222,222,222influence. It took 12 hours to sell, but today my L41 controller has over 280M in the bank

    Quote:
You got 222,222,222 influence from the Consignment House.
Today I did Lady Grey TF with Demented Toxophilite, my Archery/Energy blaster on Virtue. It was a fun team, and the first mission scored me this:

    Quote:
    Apocalypse : Dam/Rech/Acc (Superior) (Recipe).
And much to my surprise, when I checked the market, they were going for between 200M and 220M, so I put mine up for 200,010,111.

    Quote:
you got 215,000,000 influence from the Consignment House. You paid 11,499,445 to the Consignment House.
    Woohoo.

None of my characters have ever been over 200M before (I have 96+ characters, and rarely play L50's once they get there), so having two characters with over 250M each is a unique experience for me.

My L50 Fire/Kin controller "tiny tuff controller" rolled 80 reward merits last week, and in those four rolls, acquired a Luck of the Gambler 7.5% and the Numina +Regen/+Recov recipes, which both sold for a pretty penny.

Last night my L50 Fire/Fire Blaster, Archvillain Q rolled 40 merits, and got a Luck of the Gambler 7.5% recharge.

Which all adds up to lots of money for my characters on Freedom, Justice and Virtue.

    Yay me.

    Guide to Guides

All of the links (bar the last post by cannonfodder) are 404.

With the new forum, that isn't surprising. However, it would be great to have them all back again. Massive task for someone

  23. I used to use chainlink fences as a 'guide' to running along.

I can't do that these days, because I run -straight- through them. It's quite annoying, especially if there are cliffs on the other side of them (like in Talos).

This seems to be new behaviour, and it didn't affect some other people on some teams when I 'showed them' the problem. That is, other people would never walk through the fence. I was able to do this repeatedly.

Could be a network latency issue -- my "ping" is generally 275-350milliseconds (1/3 of a second). Which is a major reason why I don't do PvP, and can have some quirky effects on my characters's movement, especially in caves.
