Quote:First off, welcome to the game.So i wanna be a good healer , I played DAOC for years and aways came back to my cleric and healer . so now im new to COH and the first thing i wanna say is that i love the fact that this game is nothing like DAOC or wow . theres so many ways to build and set up your toon and i love it ,but im a bit confused on how to make a good healer.IM leaning on a RAD/THERM cor but not sure if RAD/pain would be better? I also was wondering about MM i know they can heal but how well and i would think pet managment could get in the way of heal managment.
Secondly, you're right in that this game is nothing like DAOC or WoW. It's so not like those games, that building a character as a 'healer' is generally frowned upon, as it is one of the least effective ways out there to provide team support, especially at higher levels.
Buffs and debuffs are much more powerful and mitigating than straight healing in CoH.
The 'healer' mentality is a very sore subject around here, and I'm sure you will end up getting quite a few responses to this thread.
One thing I will heartily recommend, is that as a new player, you take a look at the Mentor Project mentioned in my signature. It's a great way to get involved with a wide range of helpful veteran players, and get tons of questions answered very quickly in-game. -
Quote:Perhaps we're not looking at the same things then, or seeing things from differing perspectives. I've seen comments on a number of forums about the ease of exploiting in CoH.That's funny cuz whenever this game gets brought up on other MMO forums I continually see people complaining how they quit this game because the devs nerfed their favorite exploit or how our GM's banned them for some (in their opinion) "trivial" EULA violation.
I've seen (and reported) players using geometry holes and third-party 'bot' programs to AFK farm. I watched those same players continue their activity 24 hours a day for weeks with no GM action.
There are countless numbers of AE exploit arcs that are being reported by players, yet they are still there. It's been like that from day one with AE. The abusive arcs never seem to get pulled, no matter how many times they are reported. Sure, eventually, the devs get around to patching the exploit-of-the-week, after it's been allowed to run rampant for weeks. Heck, the lack of GM action is such a joke, one of the most popular current exploit arcs is filled with "Uncaring NCSoft Employee" NPC's....
I know players with literally dozens of characters PL'ed up through AE exploits. I only know of one personally that ever had action taken against them, and that was back immediately after Posi's rant about AE abuse, and it was one of the 'one-hour 50's' that was PL'ed using the worst of the original exploits.
The perception the dev team is giving off, to me at least, is that, one: they are gunshy to actually take action against paying subscribers, and two: exploiting the game is perfectly acceptable as long as you don't overdo it. -
Quote:I know exactly where you're coming from. Based on everything I have seen since I started playing, the GM's and the dev's have reacted very sluggishly (or not at all) to many different EULA violations & exploits, some of them extremely serious.I'm going to assume that the RMT people are no longer a concern of the Devs/GMs/whoever in this game. I reported one in Atlas last night and three hours later it was still there.
I wish there was something I could do, because between this and the incessant "LOL LVL 50 IN SIXX HOWURS!!!! HUR HURHUR" spam I've been seeing, it's enough to make me want to quit.
Outside of the ephemeral treatment of the boards' EULA, I know the game EULA and would be happy to banhammer any of these sewer dwellers.
It's not good for the long-term health of the game. CoH has a pretty well established reputation as 'City of Exploits'.. -

You can slot those same level 30-38 IO sets in your higher level powers too, and still keep the set bonuses when exemplared. The set bonuses will continue to work even if the power is no longer available at the level you are exemplared to.
-
It doesn't matter what pets they are slotted in. The procs provide the bonus in a radius around your character that affects all of your pets. For Demons, I'd probably drop all the procs into Hell on Earth, rather than take up enhancement slots on my normal pets.

Quote:Yep, same defense numbers for both. SR Brutes do have somewhat of an advantage in the order their powers are available however. Brutes get their 3 defense toggles by level 20, and their last passive power at 28. The Scrapper has to wait until 35 to get their AOE defense toggle. Big advantage to the Brute when leveling up and when exemplaring down for TF's, after hitting 50.I'm fairly confident that Brutes and Scrappers get the same defense and resistance from powers. The Brute merely has higher resistance CAPS (rarely applicable) and more hit points. Brutes as a result are a little more survivable in general. Not a lot, but a little. It's not a huge difference like between Scrappers and Tankers.

Quote:Yeah, I'm getting the impression based on both the OP and Mike's subsequent responses in this thread that:Whatever. At this point it's clear you either aren't reading what people are telling you, or you're willfully ignoring it. Either way, I'm done trying to have a conversation with you.
1: He doesn't handle criticism well.
2: He's not interested in any discussion or feedback on this subject
3: Despite the thread not going the way he seemed to expect, and replies being pretty much overwhelmingly critical of his SG recruiting methods, he has already made up his mind that he is right & anyone who feels differently is wrong or overly sensitive about 'spam'.
Oh well. To each their own. -
Already mentioned, but I'll second the recommendation to join the Mentor Project.
Beyond that, there are a couple things you can do to make it easier to find teams.
* Use the existing team search tool and set for search flag to Looking For Any. You can do this by clicking the Team button above the default chat window.
* Join your server's global chat channels. These are usually listed in a thread in the individual server sections here on the forum. These are great places to find teams for events, taskforces, badging, etc.
What server are you on? -

Quote:How can you make a successful SG by randomly inviting players you know absolutely nothing about? It may not be your intention, but it certainly sends the message of someone who doesn't care about the kind of players in the SG, but only about getting as many members as possible to grind out prestige. That is my whole take on this. I mean lets get real. How can you make a successful SG by recruiting only long-known friends.
Honestly, if I was looking for an SG, your recruiting tactics would steer me away from your group completely. -
Quote:My usual response to a random SG invite tell, is a polite "No thanks", then using player notes to one-star the sender, and if possible making note of what SG they're spamming for. If it's a blind SG invite with no accompanying tell, then the sender gets placed on my ignore list.I deal with such things simple. If I'm on a char that's already in an SG, the person sending the tell just gets put on ignore with no reply at all. If they can't be bothered to check if I'm in an SG, I can't be bothered to reply.
If I'm on a free char, my response will depend on my mood, but it's usually just a simple "No thanks".
Sorry OP. You WERE being rude. You should have just dropped it when it was clear he wasn't interested. -
If I'm reading this correctly, you sent a blind tell to someone you didn't know, and had never played with, asking them to join your SG? Then got angry when the player reacted poorly to your behavior and began cursing at him?
Sorry to tell you, but the other player isn't the rude one here... -
The drop rate is somewhere between 1 in 80-120 rep valid PvP kills. When a player is killed, a 5 minute timer kicks in, and until those 5 minutes are up, any further kills of that player do not count for PvP rep, and therefore do not have a chance to drop a PvP recipe.
So, provided you make one kill exactly every 5 minutes, that comes out to 12 chances per hour to get a PvP drop. Based on the drop rate, it will take you an average of anywhere between about 6-10 hours to get one recipe.
Obviously, if you are cycling kills among multiple opponents, you will increase your chances within the 5 minute timer window. -
Anytime before this Thursday is good for me. After tomorrow though, I won't be free until next Wednesday (the 24th).
-
I'm in on this too. I still need one or two of the badges..
-
Especially when said characters are going from 1-50 in a day.
-
Also agreed. It's silly in this day & age where we have difficulty settings up to +4/x8 that we still can't start a TF without having 6 or more players. I have several friends I'd love to duo TF's with, but it is a hassle to get enough padders to start them up in the first place.

Quote:5. Non-Constructive posts are prohibited.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of examples of non-constructive posts. As a rule, non-constructive posting is not permitted:
Spam - this is considered to be repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users.
Do not create threads/posts to “petition” for game features, additions, changes, or other issues.
Do not engage in Lobbying on the Official Forums. Lobbying is continually bringing up the same topic repeatedly in numerous different threads or as an off-topic post in official threads to get developer attention. This form of posting is not permitted. We recognize you may be passionate about a specific subject, however this sort of posting is non-constructive and will not be tolerated. -
There is a short tutorial mission arc available at the University in Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable that explains the basics of the invention system.
I'd also suggest checking out the Mentor Project in my signature below, if you need real-time help with game related questions. -
Quote:One: You're wrong. Absolutely, undeniably wrong. There are only three IO's in the entire game that go for 2 billion. Two of those three do not consistently sell for 2 billion influence. One of those two is the Panacea proc.Actually, I am not trolling. And seriously, i set out to rebuild my main this weekend, a purp'd out Dark/Invul Brute. I was gonna replace the heal sets I have in two powers (55 rech each bonus0, with PvP heal sets (7.5% bonus) Many of the enhancers 9like half) are going for 2 bill each.
Two: You've got a "purp'd out" Brute, yet you're taking up the cause of the so-called 'casual' & 'average' player and ranting about prices of high-end loot? Wow. If that's not worth a *facepalm*, I don't know what is. -
Quote:It is reasonable. Evidenced by the fact that there are many players that have these types of builds. So it is clearly an achievable goal. You clearly are either unable, or unwilling to put forth the required effort to obtain what you want. The opportunity is there. Just remember that equal opportunity does not mean equal outcome is guaranteed.I am simply saying that after a few years it should be reasonable to expect to have at least one toon (with all wealth except SOs concentrated to one build) reasonably pimped out with the best stuff.
You should scale back your expectations to something is more in line with the skill level you have, and the effort you are willing to expend to obtain what you want.
