I'm fairly confident that Brutes and Scrappers get the same defense and resistance from powers. The Brute merely has higher resistance CAPS (rarely applicable) and more hit points. Brutes as a result are a little more survivable in general. Not a lot, but a little. It's not a huge difference like between Scrappers and Tankers.

Yep, same defense numbers for both. SR Brutes do have somewhat of an advantage in the order their powers are available however. Brutes get their 3 defense toggles by level 20, and their last passive power at 28. The Scrapper has to wait until 35 to get their AOE defense toggle. Big advantage to the Brute when leveling up and when exemplaring down for TF's, after hitting 50.

Brute SR is superior in my eyes. It has a taunt aura.

Having more HP on a Brute is also another factor for picking Scrapper SR or Brute SR.

There is not a significant difference between SR Scrappers and SR Brutes. The hit points will be higher on the Brute. Buffed damage (with a kinetics) will be higher on a Scrapper. Damage without Fury will be higher on a Scrapper, but unbuffed damage with Fury will be higher with the Brute.

Check out this thread if you want a numerical comparison of Brute vs Scrapper. Brutes will only be slightly higher due to higher HPs giving them more HP/s from regeneration.

Due to their higher HP, brutes also get a bit more benfit from the scaling resistance in SR.

There's much less difference in play between brute and scrapper SR in favor of the brute than there is between brute and scrapper shield defense in favor of the scrapper. It all works out.

All this also assumes more or less the same time, interest and inf invested in either choice.

My Main, a claws/SR scrapper, has far more health, passive regen and survivability than either of my main /SR brutes. She's also been around since i4 and had billions more influence and thousands of hours more playtime than any of them (probably than all of them combined).

It's mostly personal preference, but I've just felt more comfortable with SR on Scraps. If I'm playing a toon geared towards grabbing aggro, I like to have layered defenses.

I have come across situations where my soft-capped SR Scrapper has been overwhelmed by a large number of mobs, and I had to retreat for a few seconds to regen, or wait for any debuffs to wear off. I can imagine that a Brute with an aggro aura and SMASH mentality might run into these situations more frequently, and having to fall back even for a little while might mess with your Fury-building.

I like brute SR because of the much-improved order you obtain powers. Exemping my SR brute doesn't bother me much; exemping my SR scraps doesn't happen much. The extra hitpoints don't seem to make much difference to me, but it must help at least somewhat.
