Quote:Mercedes Lackey. So yeah, I'd say its dependable. She is busting her tail off to try and save Paragon and City of Heroes.yeah i wouldnt get your hopes too high up yet. this is all heresay and means little to nothing. who exactly "talked" to brian clayton? and why were you with brian to begin with?
that might help make it more credible...hell anyone here could start a rumor as much as this one. -
Quote:Yup, just delving into this. For Feds, the earliest you can get a Carrier is at level 40. It is the Tholian Recluse Carrier and costs anywhere between 40 to 150 million EC on the exchange. The earliest a KDF can get a carrier is at the start with the Dacoit Flight Deck Cruiser. It only has one hanger and costs $10. The only free Carrier is at level 40 and is called the Vo'quv Carrier.
To add on to what was said before, you can have up to twelve active ships out, which makes for one mighty swarm. Or you can have a combination of ships out, of debuffers, healers, damage dealers, survivable, multi-role, and even frigates. Yes, you can launch player sized frigates from two later Klingon ships. Up to four of them. So you can either swarm the enemy, hit the enemy with your own mini-ship army, debuff the daylights out of the enemy, or do a fun combination thereof.
One MAJOR gripe with this though, you have virtually no way to keep track of your wings of ships. You can sort of count icons on the mini-map, but for the most part you are left playing it by ear. And since most of the smaller ships are GOING to be destroyed unavoidably, it can lead to some chaotic moments in mid-combat when you are not sure if you have your full numbers out or not.
On Champions, something important to note is that every pet has a number of different unique auto-cast abilities, and that most non-circle summoned pets have unique activated abilities. For example munitions bots fire a gatling gun for their standard auto attack, have micro-munitions for an auto-cast ability, and can activate an ability that turns them into turrets, which have longer range, deal more damage, and whose basic attack pierces targets. Attack Toys! attack in melee and have a special ability called "Toy Time!" which summons a clone of them, up to four at the highest rank, but no activated ability.
Side note, the summoning circle units are good enough without activated specials. -
With a little digging ((Or paying attention)) you'd find that we know that the former Paragon Studio's is in talks with investors and NCsoft to attempt to work out something. So there may be SOME interest in selling. We just don't have a lot of details right now.
-
Oh BUGGER, they were introducing a way for heroes to get Patron powers without going villain! BAH.
-
Unruffle your feathers, bud. All people did was point out that this was standard action, and not really news. If anything it should have made you feel better, and not start swearing. No one was jumping your gun, no one was accusing you of being negative. So calm down.

Quote:Not at all. You're looking at it the wrong way. This is an official cessation of NCsoft services, and considering that everything IS officially being closed down, this is to be expected. They have to proceed in this manner. That would be the petition that NCSoft is still choosing to ignore, right?
Unfortunately, with today's "here's how you get your money back" announcement from NCSoft I think we can officially say that the proverbial fork has been stuck in City of Heroes.
Thanks, as always, to Zwill and the rest of the team for many great years and an awesome game.
-Buxley
Also as I said in another thread, if City of Heroes does continue on after this, it probably won't be under NCsoft. -
Like I said in that thread, officially the game is being closed, so they have to proceed in said manner. They HAVE to adhere to that, and proceed in a proffesional manner befitting the situation, they can't go dancing around saying "BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE OVER!" or anything like that.
You also have to keep in mind that if City of Heroes DOES continue past this point, it will most likely not be under NCsoft. Just some food for thought. -
Quote:The test realm is open to everyone. Head on over there and give it a shot, everything on the test realm market is free.I really wanted to try out the Mastermind Beast Mastery before it's all over, but of course we can't buy any more Paragon Points. I don't suppose there's some way to shunt my refund for oversubscription months into Paragon points for that? (I realize probably not, but you don't ask, you can't get, and if the answer is no then I'm no worse off.)
-
And you've got to remember, this is OFFICIALLY what is happening, and they have to proceed as such. They can't dance around pretending like it isn't while trying to work something out, they have to handle it in a proffesional manner, and that is not going to include little blurbs about how it might not end. I am sure Zwillinger would LOVE to give us details or even just say that the meetings are ongoing, but he can't, and announcements like this are important for what is going on.
-
Quote:Any talks going on would be extremely NDA, so Zwill wouldn't be allowed to talk about it one way or the other. Suffice to say that these things take time though, and it's only been a couple of weeks.Zwill, I for one, appreciate all you've done during this time. It can't have been easy being left behind to close the store, as it were.
I bought my VIP again August 24th (I have been going on and off due to a move to FL). Does this mean I would get a partial subscription since I was subscribed as of the first. (If it doesn't, make sure that NCsoft uses the proceeds from my subscription to buy you lunch...)
Also...does this mean that the negotiations to save CoH has ended, or do those go on (hopefully).
Again, thank you. I know there are things you can't do, but I do appreciate all you have done to try to make this a little easier on us players. *hugs* -
Why would it tell you that? The post was very diplomatically and officially worded. I wouldn't expect anything else from an official anouncement on the cessation of services. This was a big issue among many players, and they got the answers they needed for it.
-
Quote:Except no. Have you...have you even played the game? I'm just curious. In the first thirty levels I did a few missions for Defender, and a few for Kinetic. They are around, but I've never felt like a lackey. If anything the game tries to make you feel more like an equal then just a !@#$%. Almost to much so sometimes, in my opinion. But it should stroke the ego's of people who want to make characters with dossier's that start them out as supreme heroes, I suppose.CO is great if you want to feel like an errand boy for the big name signature heroes, and if you want an actual nemesis.
DCUO is great if you enjoy having your face firmly fastened to the loins of every franchise DC superhero ever. Nothing says "I'm a superhero" like being Superman's b****. -
No, it means if you are willing to take them as they are and not expect City of Heroes 2.0 then they are perfectly enjoyable in their own right. You aren't going to find another CoH, no other MMO on the market plays like it.

Quote:WoW has actually been facing that for a while now. They claim 9 million subscribers, but you'd find that hard to believe on a large number of servers. I recently got a free seven day trial so I went back to test the new changes, and both my main servers were ghost towns. Servers that used to be full and busy at all hours are dead quiet during peak times. It was meh when I left back at the start of Cataclysm, but its far, far worse now.Fixed that for you. Seriously, every game has this concern. Even WoW, lately.
Nothing lasts forever I suppose. Still, not going to stop trying to save CoH. -
Zwill's already pointed out that what the community is doing is being heard, which will have an impact on what's going on behind closed doors. The more noise people make and the longer they keep it up, the more of an effect will be had. The important thing is to not lose steam.
-
They are going to prior to the November 30th shutdown, Zwill already mentioned that. We just don't have an exact date.
-
This is what I was thinking. Maybe its coded to only run until Monday mainten-...hang on, whose doing maintence? Anyway, back to what I was saying, maybe its purposefully limited just in case some one forgets to 'push the button' as it were.
-
Quote:I'm all for being angry really, but this is a bit of a flip flop on the OP's part. I am just curious if he read something or what have you.most likely the sheer lack of response on ncsofts part regarding this shut down (and the players media campaign)
it is frustrating but with patience im sure things will come of the dealings the devs are doing
For the record yes, I am extremely mad about the treatment and overall silence on the matter, but in so far as saving the game, I still think patience and holding back the pitchforks is the best idea for now. -
That was special, and I was way more amused then I probably should have been.
-
Also keep in mind, we aren't talking about Paragon being in talks with just one person. We're talking about Paragon talking with NCsoft, which is going to require all sorts of fun meetings and internal discussions and we'll get back to you's. This isn't going to be a short process. But at LEAST there is something going on that we are aware of. Its better then nothing at all.
-
That more or less sums it up. I was surprised they told us at all. My guess is, that was a calculated risk on Paragon studio's part. A way to keep our spirits up, because the commotion we were causing was having an effect. Regardless, this isn't something that is going to happen overnight. We're not talking about two people sitting down face to face at a table and hammering things out, we're talking about Paragon talking to the big shots over at NCsoft, who in all due probability have to hold meetings to discuss this sort of thing. But even just TALKING, having the channel open and going back and fourth, means something.
I guess what I am getting at is don't give up on this yet. Yes, things are dark right now. Yes, we're sitting dead in the water and the boat has a hole in it. But that doesn't mean its over yet. To use the boat analogy again, we ain't drowned yet! -
Quote:Nethergoat. For the most part I agree with you, but you have this weird chip on your shoulder with GW2. Not everyone playing it is doing the whole "Get over CoH" thing. In fact I can't recall seeing anyone doing both at the same time in a post. So could you maybe stop linking the two?Congenital pessimist that I am, I find myself agreeing with this.
I'm following everyone on Twitter, I'm signing every petition that comes my way, I'm joining every online protest I can make.
If nothing else, it's introduced me to a lot of fantastic people in the community that hadn't previously come to my notice. It's also changed my opinion about a lot of folks around here- that old saying 'you don't know who your real friends are until you actually need them' applies. A guy like TonyV who I didn't get along with turns out to be exactly the sort of person you want on your side when disaster strikes. And all the people in Ultimus' Final Reveal thread, people with no post history but who've been playing for years and grabbed a final opportunity to connect with the wider community.
Then there's the why aren't you like me, way too cool to form an emotional attachment to a silly game? Also, GW2 is GREAT! contingent.
I like the crowd I'm running with.
If we end up bashing into a brick wall, as seems likely, we do it with the finest motives and in excellent company.
On topic, TonyV is mainly worried about losing to much of the Paragon team, I think. Keeping them together is kind of important to our goal, and the longer it takes to get some sort of at least internal word on it, the more they are going to drift off out of neccesity.
Regardless, it is still to soon to tell over the fate of CoH. I realize that two weeks seems like a long time, but it isn't. Not for this kind of thing. Buisness deals can take a long time to work out. Its just agonizing for us because well, its our game on the line. -
Quote:Calmly. I know its agonizing, but two weeks is not a long period of time in the realm of buisness deals. There are a lot of things to debate on, a lot of kinks to work out. A lot of wheeling and dealing to be done.Just because you think two weeks is not long enough for the company that started this mess to face the playerbase and the music, doesn't mean they will come face the music instead of hiding in their ivory tower with their heads in the money...errr sand.
Believe me, plenty of us are angry. I'd say most of us. But right now we are trying to keep it under wraps until something definite comes up. If nothing can be done, if NCsoft won't deal, then yes, we pull out the pitchforks, torches, and feathers.
