No reply expected of course...but...
Are any of our esteemed moderators in the "not-uber-young" category? Dare I ask, is there a mod who was born prior to Ronald Reagan's presidency? Doesn't matter one lick...just following the curious trend of this thread. -
The idea from Steelclaw's post on "being too old..."
So who out there can claim the throne of the ages? Who IS the oldest player in the game? Anyone willing to own up? -
I logged in and was told I'm AegisWolf...
Refreshed brower and back to normal -
Here's a query:
Who out there is the OLDEST PLAYER currently active in the game? Is there anyone willing to claim this mantle? -
Quote:Repping guys poorly while your own is off eh? Nice. Give the guy a break. Servers have needed a merge for quite some time now. Only server transfers have lessened the amount of post regarding a merge.
Point it out all you want AGAIN, server populations have gone down. It doesn't take a jeenyus to see that, and only the very obtuse or naive would think levels are the same over the long haul. Sure the game is instanced based- it always has been- but crowds under Atlas have always been there, but smaller now. Crowds in the average WW were always there, but smaller now. Chatter in broadcast used to be very annoying, and constant, and it still is, but....it's smaller now. Is the game dying? Of course it is, it's what, 5 years old now? Is it dead? Not until NC says so, and obviously they sit fit to release another expansion.
It's great that some old timers have a tight circle that they can count on for good times. That doesn't help the new guy. Neither do posts like this. Some people have been here so long the sense of entitlement is overwhelming, and apparently the entitlement covers opinions over others' as well.
I'm not sure about the entitlement comments, but I tend to think that diminishing numbers are more a product of marketing than anything else. I opened up this week's comics to see a full page ad for Champions.
I've been here since '04, and I'm still having a blast. But I think that a few ads here and there would do wonders to bolster both the population and the game's appeal. I've long dreamed of a tv ad during Heroes...heck any sci-fi series.
This game has a committed, creative fan-base...outstanding dev's who interact often with us...and a constantly updated mythology. I think the game's age is an advantage in that sense. Now, if marketing could be amped up...well...I can't think of any reason it couldn't last at least another five. Certainly an upgrade to the game-engine would be a massive bonus, but really there is so much room for growth. Why not toss some bucks towards ads in comics, maybe television, and certainly a broad-spectrum blast to gaming mags when GR gets closer? -
-You still have graph paper at the ready to draw your maps.
-You roll your own die for to-hits.
-You challenge the team leader as being a "poor DM who is playing favorites!"
-You can't find Rikti in your 'Monster Manual'.
-Your 'Player's Handbook' has no tips on how to sell your salvage.
-You thought an 'instanced zone' was what happened to your group after passing around certain party favors... -
Quote:100% agreed! The main reason I'll not play Champions is the no unique names feature they have. If they do that here, instant uninstall. Just one person's personal preference, but thought I'd cast my vote anyway, as seeing the suggestion to remove the restriction gave me a gross feeling, ick.

The holiday events are some of my absolute favorite things about this game! That first year...I just about pooped myself when the Winter Lord first came into my sights!!
Really...I wholeheartedly agree with op...I LOVE these special touches to the game. And if indeed we are getting new twists...all the better.
It's crazy that we are pushing five years of holiday memories attached to these events! But they're there. I have four Christmas' worth of memories...late night...the tree lit...all the presents torn open...eggnog on breath...and rushing around with other folks just enjoying the season in-game. It's so darn fun!
I do dig the Halloween evetnts...but the chalet, the snow, the presents, the snowmen...man...it's become part of Christmas for me. -
Thanks for posting this Storm. I was just thinking that the number of doom/dieing threads have just been ridiculous...even post-new issue. Also, many of them have just been...I don't know...inane.
I have been experiencing a veritable rennaissance playing for the last two months. And really, with this most recent release and the GR expansion on the horizon...I've been finding myself thinking more often about how much I am looking forward to seeing what the future of CoH/V holds.
Anyway, that's the .02 of this 62 month vet.
Thanks again Storm. Your post was refreshing and appreciated! -
Durrnit! And for the first time since June I'm busier than heck!

I suspect you may be giving that ramble a shade too much credit. But then again, it's been two decades since I read 'In Search of Lost Time'. So maybe I mistake genius for sheer inanity.

I am rooted I'm so here.
I did give CO a shake...and it really isn't for me.
I16 has me very excited about the future of the game...that and the possibilities of Going Rouge. -
I'd like to say "goodbye search function...you were a worthy opponent."

Forgive me if I've missed it on the boards...but I want to actually schedule a full 24 hours of free time for the next double exp. weekend. If memory serves, haven't we seen one in July for the last couple of years? I know it's a bonus from the devs that isn't a fixed promise...but I swear I've had some of the best teaming experiences and sheer explosive fun during all the dble exp weekends. Anyone know if there's been any word?
Pax. -
Five years this month for me and I've never thought the cost was unfair. $15 for an entire month of delicious entertainment value seems uber reasonable.
That and I really wish I could fly and this is as close as I come most days. -
Just want to say...JULY 29 gonna get me some 60!!! See you then!
