    So I really enjoy City of Heroes, and I've gone back and forth between being a subscriber and not playing it, but I always have this dilemma. I can never stick with a character. I don't know what it is, but I just can't. I know it's possible, I just need some help. So, if I list my playstyle below, could you help me out? If you could suggest something that fits it and actually describe it, that would be so awesome!

    1. I like being valuable to a team, but not to the point where I can't even solo.
    2. I'm fine with any type of combat really, ranged or melee.
    3. I like having a little strategy involved in my character. If it's always going to be the some button combination over and over, that's no fun.
    4. Having a Plan B is always nice. If something goes wrong, I don't want to be repeatedly screaming "I'm screwed! I'm screwed! I'm screwed!!"

    If there's anything else you need to know in order to help, just ask the question and I'll respond ASAP

    new mids

    ok so i just downloaded the latest version of mids and every time i try and open a past build i get this message

    "Unable to read data - unable to read beyond the end of stream"

    anyone having the same problem and a solution? is it something as simple as un and re installing mids?

    if you want to kill things fast in PvP, go psi/, sonic/, with either /energy melee or /devices

    if you want to kill things fast in PvE go either fire/ or archery/ with /energy melee or /mental manipulation

    In my experience , no they arent. im always on one of my defenders and im stuck either forming my own team or asking to join another (and more often than not being the only defender there and being out numbered by controllers and corrupters). Why? if i were to take a wild stab in the dark I would say that most people pick the other two over defenders for their much better damage, see containment and scourge, and are willing to take a cut in buff/debuff values. NOT saying that defenders are underperforming by any means, but a buff to a nearly useless inherent would be amazing! even something to improve our buff/debuff ability(directly, not something as indirectly as a small end discount). Do we know for sure that they would then in turn nerf defenders? of course not, so we really cant argue that we would be giving something up for a better inherent. The same goes for tankers and gauntlet. Neither tanks nor defenders under perform on teams but both are stuck with a very crappy inherent that need some kind of change.

    Because I said in my other post and hope you get a chance to read the thread rather than focus on one little point:

    IMO, these changes that keep getting proposed would result in a nerf to our strongest assets - the buffs/debuffs. I always viewed our damage output or status protection or whatever to be balanced to what we can add to others.

    For example, form a duo of blaster and an emp def. Giving that blaster buffs, heals, and status protection makes a powerful combination that more than makes up the lower damage by the emp defender alone.

    If they were to change the inherent power for more soloable, then the balance would be that the defenders won't shine as much on teams and would be "replacable" by controllers and corruptors.

    In other words, any thing that makes a defender stronger such as change to the inherent (and I think they are overpowered in what they do for others and in combination) would be balanced by a decrease from our best abilities - buff/debuff. If they decrease those, then we will be on par with controllers and corruptors, and won't shine any more.

    just so we're clear your saying that they will "balance" them by decreasing the values for our current buffs and debuffs to put them on par with controllers and corruptors to compensate for a new inherent?

    A) assuming that they would in fact take some sort of action to "balance" defenders with the addition of a new inherent, they wouldnt lower the values simply because we get the sets as a primary instead of a secondary like controllers and corruptors. what kinda since would that make if a primary and secondary put out the same numbers?

    B) we have no idea if they would "balance" defenders if we were to get a new inherent. they didnt touch blasters when they got defiance 2.0 so why would they mess with defenders?

    Also, i did read the rest of your post. I only addressed part because im fairly tired and to be honest, i dont give a [censored]. I can, if you really want me to.

    EDIT: i always put the term balance in quotes because thats just a fancy word the devs use in place of nerf. also spelling.

    i completely agree. defenders are a fantastic (and IMHO the best) AT that isnt broken. its inherent is the opposite of that.

    Ah, for me the inherent and the AT are one in the same and can't be separate. If you get a chance to read my other post since you only quote part of one for a specific reply to another poster, you can see that I feel that a change in vigilance would nerf what makes the AT shine.

    How would a change in something that has little/none effect on the AT currently(especially solo) nerf said AT? Its kinda hard to call a change a nerf if that change isnt definite yet.

    i completely agree. defenders are a fantastic (and IMHO the best) AT that isnt broken. its inherent is the opposite of that.
  11. if you want a debuffer. don't do /rad. rad/sonic > rad/rad. and if you DO want to be a h3alz0r i would still say go /sonic for its debuffing potential. If however, you want a more damaging secondary than sonic then /ice isn't a bad route to take or even /dark.

    A lot of team support defenders I know seldom bother with stamina and even those that do it means they're layout buffs, debuffs, and heals faster than they're end can recover.

    srsly, vigilance doesn't have that great of an effect on defenders and if it did people wouldn't be complaining about it being underpowered.

    if, in fact, ALL you were using was the end discount from vigilance, then you werent laying down enough to make a noticeable difference anyway(unless you were popping a [censored] load o blues).

    By the way, I would be one of the ones who hates vigilance. It sucks. IT DOES. compared to other inherent powers, short of gauntlet which i also think needs to be changed but thats for another time, Vigilance has little to no effect on gameplay. see containment, scourge, fury, and domination. change it. not necessarily /signed to this idea but /signed to some kind of change.

    personally, after looking at the definition of vigilance, something along the lines of + recharge. perhaps something along the lines of the more people on the team the more +recharge is given with yourself giving the largest amount (4% ?) then an additional 1 for each new team member. seems like a possible route. it would effect both the primary and secondary. maybe even a high mag (3?) to sleep and hold. I also wouldn't be apposed to a small defense bonus but i highly doubt that will happen.

    kin/elec?

    well my idea for this toon was to be mostly in melee ( or i guess kinetic range) and the sapp from elec and - to hit from dark would both be equally helpful. however, just from my experience on my elec blaster, his damage was never where i wanted it to be and i had a feeling that the defender counterpart was no different. Also from what i've heard a /dark defender can be pretty damaging. but idk :/

    EDIT: i had also debated about going /ice but i wanted something new and ive done ice far too many times

    im wondering if the massive damage buff from kinetics helps with elec's below average damage. if not i was also thinking about going kin/dark as instead. anyone have any feedback and/or experience with either?

    if you had come with an IOed build and where having the same problems I would say that he should be deleted. however you not only dont have an IOed build but from what i can tell your not even using all top level SOs. my advice, IO your build (doesnt even have to be expensive just something), get a travel power, slot rech redux and end in dark regen.

    Archery is great for AOE and single target. Target Boss then AIM + Rain of Arrows + Explosive Arrow + Blazing Arrow. That combo is available every fight once you have the powers slotted with recharge.

    which is almost as good as aim + OSA + origin power + ice storm + frost breath for every mob with Aim + blizzard every now and again. however, im more bias towards ice because its awesome but i know Lumi has a very damaging TA/dark chain (that is a little reliant on procs IIRC from seeing the build, but I could be wrong). The only way i would make an archery would be for concept(which i dont do often) other than that just make a blaster.

    Don't do arch. It's not nearly as awesome as it's blaster other. If your going TA I would recommend /ice for AoE goodness /sonic for stacking -res or you could even make a corr and go fire/TA ( I've had a feeling about this combo for a while and was reeeeally hoping for it in PP 2.0 but ateast we got traps haha > )
