Okay, so with i17 now released and Going Rouge on the horizon I got back into CoH. Again.
Unfortunately, I've run into a slew of issues. Neither of my two computers can play CoH any more.
The first computer is literally a brand new Windows 7 machine, with top of the line everything. Unfortunately however, I bought it through my father's workplace and as a result it didn't really come with a nice graphics card. What it does have is an Intel 400 Series Chipset Family, which according to tests on paper and on canirunit.com should be able to play CoH just fine. And it does, for a little while. The game runs beautifully on high settings, but not ultra mode. I've also updated the computer's graphic drivers. I experience little to no lag, with fast load times and all. It goes on like this for about an hour or two and then my machine shuts down all together. Pressing the power button doesn't turn it back on, and unplugging and replugging it into a different socket doesn't work either. I have to keep trying different plugs to find one that will let me turn my PC back on. I've come to the conclusion that it's either the graphics chipset being too weak and crashing the pc massively or the power cord being faulty. But not knowing anything about computers, I posted here for help first before I went out and started buying things.
My second computer, a laptop I've had and used since 2007. It's got an ATI Raedon X1200 card in it, and plays CoH at the lowest setting. In the past once I lowered the graphics I've had no problem, but now for some reason the game causes my laptop to overheat like crazy. I can still play other games at higher graphical settings for hours with no overheat problems. Right now according to Everest Home Edition Diagnostic my CPU is 41 degrees Celsius. According to the manufacturer's website the cpu should only overheat at around 55 degrees but I might've read that wrong. While the problem doesn't really originate to CoH I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep cpu temperature low and/or if it's my fan that's dying on me.
I realize it's a wall of text but anyone who could give me a hand would be much appreciated. :c -
So, this is my third time doing a Halloween event. It's always fun, Trick or Treating is a blast, as always. I really do enjoy the Halloween Event because ToTing is a fun thing everyone wants to do on the side.
As for this Deadly Apocalypse, well. It's a good event. I've done it a couple times now, and it encourages team work, organization, and leadership. All of these things help make players into better players. I have no problems with the event itself, more so how the event activates.
I understand there were some complaints as to how often the event starts. Yeah, more often is always good. However, I did the DA for the first time today in Atlas Park. While I was smacking a banner, the event started again in Founders Falls. A few minutes later, Skyway. A half hour after that, Faultline, Hollows and Croatoa. This is a great event, but it's really confusing to have the same event going on in three different places. It draws away from the total number of participants because they run off to a different zone then the one where the majority of the players are gathered. All four of the times I tried at the event it failed due to a lack of players. Personally, I think that the event should stay exactly the same as it is now, but have the event generator run a check to see if the event is already in progress before starting a new one. Having the same event start in 6 or 8 different zones in an hour (when each event runs only 20 minutes) is crazy, in my opinion. -
Ah, it's a shame that both teams are full. I would have loved to tag along. I'll try be on before 1, so give me a shout if someone doesn't make it and you have a free spot?
Unless there's enough interest to do a 3rd team? I'd gladly run it, if need be. -
So, a while back the Infinity branch of the Taxibots ran a badge tour in Croatoa. For those of you who don't know of us or have never been to one of our tours, we use a teleport chain to send players to the markers for each exploration badge in a zone. For the Ensorcelled badge, we station a Taxibot on one of the Tree's many branches (This is the tree that Katie Hannon stands at the base of), and land the fare right onto the badge marker. Due to the lack of space on the tree branch, the placement of both the target and the Taxi must be exact, and there is little room for adjustment. During our tour, we noted that the Wisps floating around the tree gave us a buff, much like Adrenalin Boost of Empathy Defenders and Controllers. However, the buff they give interrupts whatever power that is cycling when it is granted. Of course, this totally crashes our trademark speed.
I realize that this is not something that normally would be brought to public attention and should be reported using the /bug feature. I did in fact do this, and the support team suggested that I post my issue here to see what the community thought. The support team member also said that this would be an issue for Developers to consider, so I threw it in here.
I have not yet tested it, but it seems that PBAoE buffs given by NPCs and objects (in the case of the Green and Blue crystals that act like Regeneration and Recovery Aura in some Circle of Thorns missions) should not interrupt any action, merely be on the side. I personally have run many tours in Croatoa and have not ever noticed this. Was this a new change added with i16? -
Repulsion Bomb for my Knockback/Knockdown crazy Energy/Energy/Force blaster? Yes please. Just one question. Will this new power still unlock Force of Nature per usual? I'd love to have PFF, Repulsion, and Force of Nature instead of Temp Invulnerability. Of course, once my game finishes patching and I throw a respec at it, I may just find out on my own... /glares at patcher
Besides that, I like all the changes made! Yeah, some of the badges didn't really need to be lowered. Damage Taken/Debt Removed badges are very easily obtained, I had 5 out of 6 damage takens and 4/6 debt removed badges on my Blaster before he was level 50. Of course it took me like 3 years, but that's besides the fact. But then again, some of them were just crazy. Thank goodness for that Phantom badge, ahah, I wasn't looking forward to that. -
Ah, I love this channel so far, and it's definately deserving of a sticky! I've been able to go on two TFs, and several other events (such as Giant Monster take-downs) on a spur of the moment thing, little prior planning. I hope that those kind of events continue to happen on the channel.

I was going to go, but the reschedule doesn't work for me. Just pretend Taxibot REBIRTH is there, looking shiny. -
Hrm. This causes me a dilemma. I reeeally don't want to exemp down and lose all of my powers, and even more so I don't want to get invited to a team and then be like "I don't want to team with you because I don't want to get exemp'd. lolbye".
On the other hand, this update kinda removes the need to do any sort of leveling before you get the reward of some of the high level content such as the hazard zones and RWZ.
I dunno, I really want to like this feature, but there's bits of it I'm not agreeing with. If I can keep my powers (maybe scaled down somehow?), then I guess I'll be happy. Goodness only knows how I'll manage when one minute I'm fifty and the next I'm less than twenty with no stamina. >_< -
Quote:Ah, well those are the Default Settings. I guess the forum I was on had custom ones.Nope.
The devs/forum team should change that to CoH/CoV themed titles. :C -
Uhm, I dunno about you guys, but I've not had problems getting a team. Just announce on a global channel that you're X level and you're doing X arc or X TF and ask if people want to come along. Usually I get a full team pretty quick in channels like Infinity Badge Seeker and Infinity Farmers Union.
However, while I could care less about the actual farmers, it's the AE babies that worry me. I understand that Powerleveling is a method to 50, as it was advertised to be, but seriously, I'm not sure that the dev's intended people to reach that point and know little to nothing about their characters, or the game itself. -
In my experience with vBulletin boards, Rep.. isn't really that big of a deal.
It's kind of like Post Count. Something you'd love to have a bunch of, but even if you don't, it's not that bad. If you get neg rep, oh well. I've had my friends neg rep me for fun.
Though, I heard if you get more than 1000 positive rep, it says you're the equivilent of Chuck Norris.. -
I'll see if I can make it, I'm working that day, but I should be home waay before 8:30.

Quote:I'm an MRT (Like an EMT), and I've had people scream at me, berate me, discredit me, and basically say they're going to bodily harm me. For trying to help get them to the hospital. So yeah, I know what you mean, lol.I've worked customer service. Yes, you're paid to be polite and courteous and helpful (within the bounds of what you're allowed to do). Guess what, the people that you are helping aren't always in the best mood. Some can be downright abusive. In time it wears you down. I've seen normally good personnel snap and yell at customers on the phone. Also, the customer isn't always right, yet you're expected, within reason, to act like they are.

The only time I've ever had to contact a GM was when I flew underneath Steel Canyon to get the Inventor Badge before it was released, and got stuck.
The GM in question was really nice, and laughed at the fact that I had been able to get the badge. (Of course, somebody told me how, I didn't discover this on my own, lol.)
I hate to make it sound like you're being untruthful, but it's my understanding that Game Masters of any kind are paid to be kind, courteous, and basically bending over backwards to make you happy. -
I've checked with both my Parents and Orion's badge count. He does have Dr. Q's TF. I'll be bringing Taxibot REBIRTH for sure then. I might have plans on Saturday, but they're tenative. I'll know for sure if I'll be busy before Saturday though, so I'll try to keep you posted.

I do agree that AE has been a detriment to some players. I've seen suggestions to take out the AE building in Atlas Park, and other low level zones, so that new players aren't drawn in immediately by the offer of free level ups. This way the farmers can still farm, etc.
Besides, when you no longer need anchors, why make a full architect team full of lowbies door-sitting, when you can set it all by yourself? I definately think that this feature is going to help a lot, farmers will no longer need the new players to take up space. As a result, (hopefully) most of them will actually learn how to play. -
More importantly, can we put spaces in our names?
Anywho, I've been around the forum circut in my day, and vBulletin is one of the best forum softwares out there. Not saying that UBB is bad (I think that's the name of our current software.), but.. I've just seen a lot of great things with vBulletin. -
Hrm. As much as I dread the length of this TF... I should get that badge!
I'm not sure if Orion Energy has this badge or not, if he does, I'll bring Taxibot REBIRTH along.
So, same deal as last week. Orion's a Level 50 Energy/Energy/Force Blaster, and Rebirth's a level 41 Full Suport Empath.
Lets see what social occasion will make me cancel this time! (..Well, hopefully not.) -
Unfortunately, something's come up. I've been switched to be on duty (MRT) that morning, and I wont be home until 2 or 2:30ish. I don't want to hold the team up, and it seems like you've got plenty of volunteers to take my space, heh.
-
Pft, Sound Blast was a bad choice for a secondary. I hardly ever use the few powers I took from the set, heh.
-
I'd be glad to attend with either Taxibot REBIRTH or Orion Energy, which ever you prefer for either team. I don't care really, I want the arc for both characters. REBIRTH (Level 40) is a full support Empath, and Orion (Level 50) is a Energy/Energy Blaster.

I'll be sure to send you a tell then. I've been a part of the Taxibots for a long time now, and was a part of the original Infinity RIGBots. I'll see if I can't lend you a hand. :c
