  1. Yeah I've played with some free and almost-free accounts just to see what it's like. It's remarkably easy to get to at least tier 3 though, and pick up some store-bought IOs and costume pieces to make you feel a little less noobish along the way.

I love /autionhouse but as usual with things like this I kinda miss seeing familiar people at Wents when I'd log in, heh.

    But not that much.
  2. Actually I can still read that pretty easily.

This describes me. I buy mostly to outfit my own toons.

Before converters: I saved every purple drop I got, I had about 30 or so in base at any one time, I bought the ones I didn't have when I was outfitting a new toon.

After: I've bought up cheap purples at 150-200 million each and converted... I now have about 70-80 purples in my base, almost all from the 4 damage sets, and that's despite IO'ing out 3 toons post-DXP, one of them with 4 purple sets.

And I've bought Javelin Volleys for around 100 million and converted them to what I wanted. It was comparatively cheap to do.

I've been making money off flipping ATOs mostly lately... but I only started doing that after filling my base with about 450 of them for my own use. I have trouble selling something I might want to use later. ^_^ So yeah, don't sell purples, don't sell PvP IO procs.
  4. This is a dugfromtheearth kind of thread. Only maybe he doesn't use global channels so he'd never ask this. I dunno.

I am subscribed to multiple global channels, most of them Virtue centric since I play there. I'm subscribed to several that I almost never pay attention to -- one channel each for Justice, Victory, Freedom, and Exalted, and also at least 3 Virtue channels that I don't pay much attention to -- VirtueUnited, VirtueBadges09, and some LRSF villain TF channel that I can't even remember the name of.

But I use several channels a lot: TF channels MG's Taskforces and AntebellumRevolution, TF/Chat channels Brickhouse Chat and Robokitty, and pure market chat channel The Market. I'm a mod for MG's Taskforces and also for the Hero Force global channel, which Power (HF leader) doesn't like people to use for chat, because he's all old-school and wants people to use Coalition chat to talk to each other.

Colors: When I found out you could set the colors of different global channels, I made MG's Taskforces purple, Brickhouse Chat blue, and Robokitty pink. Probably I should have made AntebellumRevolution purple because that's Freaky's channel and his characters are always purple... but nah. Now I've found that if I log into an alt that doesn't have these channel colors set, I have to fix it right away or it drives me crazy. Brickhouse Chat doesn't look right unless it's blue.

I made The Market channel bright green (the color of money!) on one toon this week, and now I think I'll have to do that on all of my characters, or that will drive me crazy too.

  5. My own AE Baby (Virtue) has never set foot inside an AE building, heh.

Neat idea though. ^_^ Post a picture of your character at some point!

It is certainly unintended for some situations... the Citadel Task Force still sends you there for either the 2nd to last or last mission. If you have a rogue on your team with no mission teleport power and the final mission is in Echo of DA, they're simply SOL. I'm sure they plan to fix that.
  8. I understand the argument that "they'll never redeem Scirocco because of his usefulness plotwise" but a good writer wouldn't let something like that stop them from telling the right story. At the very least, they need to deal with his internal conflict one way or the other.

Redemption stories are some of the most powerful you can tell. I'd really like to see the redemption of one of the signature villains, or Recluse himself.

It should be noted that the $6.35 price is through Resellers that are fulfilled through Amazon. They still ship from Amazon, and are eligible for Prime, but aren't actually sold by Amazon.

Amazon's direct asking price is still $29.99.

$6 and change for an account upgrade and a month of game time is pretty good IMO
In the interest of fairness, I only did this because you pointed it out in-game. ^_^

  11. Last night I bought two copies of Going Rogue from Amazon for $2.35 each plus s&h. Though if you buy it directly from Amazon it's $6.35 each and a possible candidate for free shipping.

It used to sell for just a bit more.

I'm just going to add that to two of my unpaid accounts. ^_^
  12. Yeah that one is classic. "Challenged to a duel he won" lol.
  13. At least some of the restrictions on e-mail have existed since before you could e-mail money or items, I think.

Back then, e-mail was used primarily by RMTers to spam you with e-mails about their services. That was before you could turn off or limit who could e-mail you too.
  14. Of course you could have left it all there, and only taken what you needed right then.

I have a base on Freedom too. ^_^

So back in issue 13 the devs reduced the amount of salvage we could store in the bins from 2,500 to 30.
To be fair, you were never able to store 2500 pieces of invention salvage in those storage bins. In the old days you could store 2500 pieces of base salvage, which was only useful for crafting base items like teleporters. The Devs didn't really care much if base salvage was hoarded, but when they made base salvage obsolete, they changed the bins to hold invention salvage -- but also changed the capacity to 30, since they really would rather people use the market than hoard invention salvage.

Specifically, the "Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls." comes from 2 different "stupid team mate' stories (in the same thread I think) way back in the first year CoH came out. So technically "Kill Skuls" was the operative phrase for one of the two stories, so there shouldn't be a problem quoting just those two words.

As for sharing goodies across two accounts... it's called a private SG base. I have one even though most of my highly-played characters are in Hero Force, which is certainly not my own private SG. (But the Villain Force VG division that I'm in charge of practically is. ).

I move IOs in and out of my private SG base all the time. Last night in fact: I decided it was time to work up a build for my level 32 dark control/fire dom. After I did so, I dug through my base to come up with a Performance Shifter proc and Endurance IO, a Miracle and Numi unique, a five piece set of Devastation, two 4 piece sets of Basilisk's Gaze, and five pieces of Stupefy, and a couple of Luck of the Gambler 7.5% recharge and defense IOs. I think that was it, heh. ^_^ There were other things I'll have to buy, but having a base full of IOs allows me to not only share between two accounts but also IO a character quickly when I want to. I mostly use IOs in the 30-33 range, so I have to plan ahead to make sure I have the kind of IOs that I'm likely to want -- I place lowball bids for things like level 29 Basilisk's Gaze and level 31 or 32 Luck of the Gambler Defense, for example, and then I use a-merits to buy the numi, miracle uniques and LotG 7.5% recharge IOs.

But it's easy to drop stuff off from one account and then pick them up with the other account.

    Oh, Hey There

    Hey Goat.

The 88's are... oh, that's been covered.

Fulmens is... oh yeah, that's been covered too.

The Market is a mess because... oh wait, that's been covered too.

    Anyway welcome back!

My current market tip: flip ATOs. Actually that worked really well for me 2 weeks ago but not as well last week. But I have faith it will eventually all work out in my favor... I think!

Other market tip: buy off-brand purples as cheaply as you can. Convert.
  18. I can confirm from first hand experience that the temptation to CONVERT NAO is pretty strong. I've been IOing out three characters recently, all with a few purples and one with a significant investment (all 4 damage sets, 20 purples total). I was needing just a Ragnarok dam/end to finish my build, and when one of the absolute amazements that I'd bought turned into a different Ragnarok, I decided that I have a lot of merits still in e-mail from the super packs, and I was going to finish my build NAO. So I did. ^_^

Sometimes, waiting until tomorrow is just no longer an option!
  19. Well of course it is! Or maybe not. Here's what I was thinking:

Nearly across the board, crafted IOs have always sold for more than recipes. Not because of the crafting cost, but the convenience. That's why there's almost always been a market for buying recipes, crafting, and selling them (with some exceptions).

Prices on purples have already rebounded a bit, but it still seems cheaper to buy, say, a sleep or pet damage purple than an Armageddon or Ragnarok.

So I was wondering... how much of an inconvenience is it to buy an off-set and then use converters to get the set you want? Perhaps more importantly, getting the one single purple you want -- Armageddon triple, for example -- it's much easier to just buy it, yes?

I mean, you could buy an Absolute Amazement for less than 300 million, say, convert it a couple of times, and even if you get that Armageddon set you want, it might be an Armageddon dam/endurance reduction. So then you waste a lot of converters trying to flip it to the triple, or you sell it for enough money to buy the triple that you want.

Or, if you're an average player that doesn't like wasting time at the market, you just buy the Armageddon triple to start with, for 400 or 500 or whatever the actual price is. Which will probably always be more money than the Absolute Amazement.

End result = there will always be a market for buying the off-brand purples and converting them to something people like better. Yes?

    Powers

I find that most melee toons have the right amount of powers, because they have a lot of inherent defensive powers or set-and-forget defensive toggles that I don't need to concern myself with in combat.

Non-melee can wind up with more powers than I can easily use in battle. Some powers wind up in awkward places on my power tray. (I tend to activate all my powers using buttons 1-6 or so and shift-1 to 6).
  21. Haven't done much with my kheld in 2 years, but anyway here ya go:

  24. I can do better! I have several level 10 Glad Armor 3% def IOs that I will sell you for only... 1.9 billion each!

Don't miss out on this amazing deal!
  25. I've never gone, even though I live in the area, and some of my friends go.
