If you don't think being VIP is worth it, unsubscribe. You may find that you miss things you got with your VIP subscription, or you may not. But the thing is, you have a choice.
Not sure why this is so complicated.... -
I'm pretty sure Titan Weapons would not exist without the influence of anime/manga.
And I'm still waiting for my magical girl costume set, whatever Nihilli thinks. They can make it available to male and huge models too, I don't care! -
I think my most memorable fight in CoH was the night we ran a 4-man Statesman TF with a spines/invul scrapper as main tank. All four of us were very good players and knew what we were getting into, but the final fight with the towers involved several team wipes and the thought that we were simply in over our heads after all. Then we rallied and finally beat Recluse down. ^_^

There are a lot of badgers in the channels I'm in on Virtue... Brickhouse Chat and Whisper X in particular.
-
Ah, my secret plan to get Steelclaw to make a better list than I could think up is now complete!
-
10. The Vahzilok. They will be re-imagined as a sort of "Ghoul Scout Troop", with many more female members who are much younger and dress in brown schoolgirl outfits, and stand on street corners with their reanimated zombies forcing people to buy varioous confections such as Peanut Butter Fingers, Sticherdoodles, and the ever-popular Thin Skin Mints. Doctor Vahz finds that ruling a cookie empire is far more lucrative than poisoning water supplies or blowing up dams.
9. The Trolls. In an attempt to change their image and move up-market, trolls will begin wearing hospital scrubs and science lab coats and will claim to be not drug addicts, but pharmaceutical experts. "Me physic... me pharmaci... me doctor! Me prescribe Superdine. It miracle drug, solve all your problem! Give you green, healthy glow! That be $500.00 consultation fee. Next!"
8. Legacy Chain. On the theory that you can attract more bees with honey than vinegar, the Legacy Chain reimagine themselves as kindler. gentler magic users. Much emphasis will be placed on understanding the motives of others and crystal therapy, and getting in touch with yourself. Look for brighter-colored robes with more flower designs, and a more cooperative attitude towards others. "Can't we just all get along?"
7. The Outcasts. For no readily apparent reason, the Outcasts will be reworked as a gang with a mostly South American background. They will have generic Hispanic accents, all of them will wear black shirts, and there will be a bunch of new Beast Masters among them and some will turn into panthers because hey, that sounds cool.
6. The Freakshow. Many of the Freakshow will become lawyers. They will still have all their cyber attachments and weird hair, but will also sport fancy three-peice suits and briefcases (albeit, often held in curved sword-hands). Special new "Land Shark" lawyer class includes the "Great White" Juicer Freak who sports a giant bladed fin on his back and can file restraining order holds against you, and also the "Hammer Head" Freak who, quite literally, has a giant mallet for a head.
5. Warriors. After discovering new-found power in psychadelic rock from the 60's, David Odysseus changes his name to David Starchild and updates the look and attitude of his entire gang to that of San Francisco hippies of the 1960's. The new "Warriors of Peace" wear tie-died scarves around their heads and sport peace signs and practice transcendental meditation and getting stoned on the central hill in Talos Island, where they blare music by the likes of Jefferson Airplane and Strawberry Alarm Clock.
4. The Clockwork. The Clockwork King, in an attempt to move with the times and stay hip and appeal to the love of his life (Penelope Yin), becomes a big fan of modern electronic dance music. Rusty metal is out, shiny chrome and flashy lights are in! Everywhere you look you'll find tiny clockwork raves, with bright-metal dancing clockwork and multi-colored flashing lights. For no discernable reason, a lot of them will sport rainbow-colored afro wigs.
3. The Scrapyarders. Their new look will be less dirty and rumpled, with a lot of mohawks (for no very good reason). Nearly 60% of them will now be women a la Rosie the Riveter. Some of them will be Beast Masters too, because hey, why not?
2. The Carnival of Shadows. They'll get updated looks that are even neater than the Carnival of Light, and include pieces that are portable to players. Except for the men, who are not changed at all. Also, there will be new dancing pet monkeys and organ grinders, which will result in a dancing pet monkey vanity pet and organ grinder emote that you can get in the next super pack (chances of getting either: 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000).
1. Nemesis. There is no Nemesis revamp. Really. You only think there is. -
Welcome back. Has it really been 3 years already?
/em feels old. -
It'd be interesting to come up with a list (or wiki page) that listed all the new power sets that have been added since launch, and if they were free or part of a box set/purchasable from the market.
I think what you'd see is that, over a course of seven years or so, you got Dual Blades, and Willpower, and Kheldian and SoA ATs, and probably one or two other things that I'm forgetting. Not counting stuff that you had to buy an expansion for, of course.
Then in the last year we've had a bunch of free power sets and also a bunch of paid ones that you can mostly purchase with your monthly VIP stipend if you want. All in a single year.
I mean, most people know this, but it'd be nice to have a chart or something to point people to when we get silly complaints like this one. -
I completely posted in the wrong thread. >.< That's what I get for trying to post in the few minutes I get for my break at work.

Although I can't say how profitable it might be, I was pleased with myself recently in using converters to solve a problem. I like Willpower as a defense set, and I tend to always slot it the same general way -- 3 pieces Numina in several powers, for the +hp bonuses. And I like using level 30-33 IOs, and I created two new WP characters over DXP weekend that are now 35 and 39, and... I had very few level 30-33 Numina IOs in base supply.
My solution was to buy up a bunch of the level 30-33 Numina end/rech and do in-set conversions. I can us anything I get in return -- for passive powers I like to slot heal, heal/end, and heal/rech for maximum heal, and for toggles I like heal, heal/end and heal/end/rech for extra endurance. And if I get the unique, well, I can always use one of those. ^_^ On four conversions I got one of them, and filled several slots on my new scrapper. I also placed more long-range bids on the same IO and spent 2 days confirming hero status so I could more easily collect hero merits on said scrapper -- gonna stock up on various Numina IOs, hopefully.
After that I tried something else -- bought a level 30 Regenerative Tissue (orange recipe) and did a 2 converter conversion to another heal set. If I understand this right, it will always be a rare heal IO, non-PvP, so I should get a Numina, Miracle, or a different Regen Tissue -- yes? Anyway I got lucky and hit another Numi +regen/+recovery, so my little experiment was a success. But what I like about this option is that there are a lot more level 30 Regen Tissue IOs floating around since that's their max level, so for people like me who like slotting level 30 IOs, that's a nice way to get them. -
Mostly I think it's recognizing what other players are doing and working with them as opposed to against them, that defines a good player to me.
Also knowing what your own character is capable of.
And once you know what you're capable of -- then going beyond that is okay too. ^_^ I know a lot of "red dot tanks" (as an example), IE blasters who like to be the first one in. They're good players, they die more frequently than a careful blaster, but it's not because they don't know what they're doing.
I could talk a lot more about specifics, but that's what it comes down to for me. -
I can confirm that a cheap (99 cent) VIP account is, after the 1 month is up, basically a free account with only T1 (1 reward token, same as free). The only advantage to having been VIP is that you could fill up every server with characters, but all will be locked afterwards except for two (you get two unlocks in other words). And you could have costumes that include pieces available only to VIP accounts, but if you change those costumes you'd have to purchase those pieces or not use them. You do not retain access to /tell etc, if you haven't spent money to go beyond tier 1.

Quote:I've been sold on IO storage bins for a very long time, and I'm always confused when people put in a lot of salvage bins. Look, I can store 30 pieces of salvage -- which, if I have the exact right pieces, can make me maybe 20 or 25 generic IOs -- or I can craft 100 generic IOs and store all of them in a different bin.Yeah, I don't even know if I'm going to bother sticking in TP bays, with how easy it is to get around these days.
I remember when transportation was THEE big draw to having a base, now I'm way more excited about the storage bins. =P
I mean, I realize things look different because I market and have money and can buy whatever salvage I want (or go get AE tickets if I'm desperate), but still... I'd rather store IOs.
My old solo SG base on Virtue is Guardians of Oz, and I have 13 IO storage bins in it, and most of the time they are pretty full. That's at least 1200 IOs in storage. This Spring I went on a SG-creating binge, and created five related SGs with Latin names for "Black Wing" "Silver Wing" "Gold Wing" etc. And I'm slowly filling up those bases with stuffs. ^_^ I do tend to put in teleporters, because getting to out-of-the-way places like Crey's Folly and Eden/The Hive is still not convenient without them, and also when I hit Base Teleport to go craft stuff or mess with my bins, I sometimes don't want to exit back to wherever I was. But yeah, on the whole bases are for storing my IOs. -
Yeah I remember thinking, "What kind of idiot would waste influence buying prestige?"
Well, I do it all the time these days.
You do still get a 20,000 influence prestige bonus for your first 15 new members I believe. -

It's nice and all how temp powers in a mission pop up on their own independent bar so that you can't miss them, but...
How do I make this go away? It's been there for 4-5 months. I'm not on a task force or trial, and I don't have any outstanding missions. It's for capturing Numina... in the Mortimer Kai SF apparently... and I guess I didn't use it when I should have, but now it's just there, forever. It won't go away. -
Quote:As I understand it:I like the new look.
My question is why don't they keep the old and new? It gives more variety (kinda).
I wondered the same thing for the CoT. The old and new would have given us much more variety. The classic old look robes could have been the lower ranks and so on.
Old Look = model with no removable parts, like an all-in-one-cast plastic model. This is why when people want an old-look costume part, it's impossible to port it anywhere, it's a part of the whole enemy model.
New Look = model with clothing details added, same as with players, so that you can mix and match costume parts. That's the reason they're borrowing a lot from player costumes as well, I'd think. Makes it easier. But any new costume pieces they add this way are easy to port to player models as well.
Also: hair bad, other changes good. Zombie Man funny. -
I think most games are looking at similar models these days.
Consider:
*Paragon/NCSoft has apparently made a lot more money
*Players are getting a great deal more content (missions/costumes/new powers/etc) on an accelerated time table.
*People that complained about having to pay for extra costume bundles... can just save up points and get what they really want with their regular subscription.
*People who don't want to pay or can't afford to pay... don't have to, and can still play.
*In general people are much more willing to spend money when it's to buy something that they want. People can get very annoyed when they feel they're forced to pay $15.00 a month and some of that money goes to things they could not care less about... but give them a lot of options, and they find ways to spend more than they might have otherwise.
As for myself, I've bought nearly every new power set (save Beast Mastery -- not a fan of MMs generally) on at least one of my two main accounts, and usually on both of them. I've bought every new costume bundle on both. I have pretty much avoided all of the fancy travel powers (magic carpet, jet board, etc.) but I sprung for the team transporter because it's ridiculously useful to anyone who regularly runs TFs. I've avoided all of the vanity pets and toys like flying disc -- even if they're fun, I really can't buy EVERYTHING. I bought 24 of the super packs on each of my two main accounts, and that got me all the costume parts, so I was happy. Haven't bought 1 pack more after that, not even with reward tokens. I have had to spend a little extra money here and there in order to keep up with everything that I wanted, and I especially spent extra money on my second account so that I could claim the Celestial Armor set before it went away, so I've spent more money no question, but not an excessive amount more.
I have created multiple extra accounts for free or next-to-nothing (introductory VIP offers) and I've wound up spending a bit of money on some of them, too. ^_^ -
And the best part about TFs in the old days... you exemplared your high level toon to one at the right level range just to run the task force, and then an hour and a half into it the other guy disconnected and you were immediately booted from the task force.
Good times, good times. -
What I've noticed, and I don't know if this is related to what Eldorado is talking about, is that if I shoot at a target and hit him, he reacts after my attack hits him. If I shoot at a target and miss, then the enemy reacts the split second I activate my power. This is weird and annoying to me -- First, why would they know they're under attack sooner if I miss them vs. hit them? Second, it's just bizaare that enemies will return fire on me while my opening attack is still animating, and before I've actually shot anything at them.
On the other hand, one of the things I love about this game is that I don't have to worry about pulling one mob at a time. That's not a playstyle that particularly appeals to me. -

join that Celestial choir. <----(They give you the uniform.)

So three days off for DxP weekend during which I leveled two characters on my newish Dilithium Flower account -- Cupcake Overdrive, an electric melee/willpower brute, and a brand new street justice/willpower scrapper after the Saturday sale of that power set, Death Ace. Cupcake hit 36 and by this evening was up to 39 and partially IO'd, Death Ace made it to 35.
And then Monday I was back to running DfB at least once or twice a night. As my characters approach 20, the levels are starting to come more and more slowly. I wonder if I'm really going to keep doing this to 50, even on one character let alone seven.
Clockwork Vixen was one of my throwaway characters mostly made on a temporarly VIP account to add an extra body to one of my solo Super Groups. But the character appealed to me, so I conscripted her for this DfB experiment. The bio just kind of flowed from the basic concept... she's a clockwork, so someone built her, she's cleaning the sewers, so that must have been her task...
8/13/12 (Mon) Blackberry Crush - runs 6, 7 - levels 18, 19
I teamed with a person who talked nonstop, and on a lot of very weird topics... kind of like they were high the whole time. Their name read as "roid" but with more creative spelling, but that didn't do anything to dispell the you-are-high sense that I got.
Another weird thing was that on our second run at the Hellion AV, someone said that there was no water in the sewer. And they were right! Don't know why. The water came back as soon as we zoned to the next part.
I took a picture though it may be hard to see, but I'm standing on dry pavement where there's normally water.
8/14/12 (Tues) Terran Angel - run 6, level 18
We only had 6 people for this run. It was late at night, 10 PM PST, and it was hard to find enough people to join.
8/15/12 (Weds) Tokyo Kitten, runs 3,4 - levels 12, 14
8/16/12 (Thurs) Clockwork Vixen, runs 6,7 - levels 17, 18
One of the best costumes I've seen on my DfB runs was actually when I was running Cupcake Overdrive on DxP Friday evening. I don't know if I got a really good picture of this guy, but the costume was amazingly grotesque. Plus he swung a shovel. His name was Mukk.
This character had a name like Gobling or something similar. Very cute.
On one run, the only guy who had any bio at all was this guy. Hmm... someone went to a lot of trouble to write this, it seems!
Bonus Name Ideas:
(Names/ideas are not guaranteed to be clever)
Sweedish Scrapper/Sweedish Stalker -- roleplay as a character who constantly exclaims, "Bork bork bork!"
Oliver Twister - water blast/storm corruptor
Beersmasher - I don't know why this name appealed to me enough to write it down but it did.
Sticking Around - Staff Fighter
Sargent Snafu
Miss Mapserver
Bubble Bath, Miss Calgon, or similar name - water blaster with the battle cry of "Calgon, take me away!"
Denephew Twin brother of Denise.
Starker - the naked stalker. (probably not a good idea, actually)
NecroNummyCon - Carries the cookbook of evil
Just Go Nuts - would have to be a blaster or scrapper I think, or brute.
