Unfortunately a little late, that would have been a good one. Thanks anyway, if I roll another PB or light/fire/alien/etc-based character and he/she forms an SG, I might use that if no one else has snapped it up by then.
  3. Sorry for the double post, but I didn`t want to add to the already-WoTìsh previous post, plus someone may have already read the previous post and not notice an edit. Anyhow, "Spektra said 'Let there be LIGHT (the League of Inter-Galactic/Incandescently-Gifted Heroic Types, thanks SnowTigress, for the inspiration and the alt-name)! And so it was."

The SG is formed, and I am now officially accepting applicants. catwhowalksbyhimself and Dinah Might are pre-accepted whenever (and if they still do) they want to join, just shoot Spektra a tell (or an email, or me a PM on here, if Spektra isn't logged on) with the name of the character to invite.

Consider yourself in. Haven't formed the group yet, but when I do, and once you've rolled up and informed of such, you being on the team will stop being a thing that isn't true. As well as anyone who's mentioned joining already (at this point, that'd be you and Dinah Might). Incidentally, between now and Freedom's release, I may lapse on occasion (financial reasons), so I need someone with SG-leading experience who I can trust, who I can designate 'Acting Leader' until my return, whether that be one of you two or a new applicant. After Freedom/I21 drops, assuming Premium membership doesn't force me out of the group (I think they said free/premium can't 'create' SGs, but I don't know if that includes pre-existing ones, or if those are grandfathered in), and for the next... month and a half at least, I'll be around a fair amount (possibly most/every day), so at those times, it's all good, but in between (if Freedom doesn't drop while I'm still subscribed), the above (re: acting leadership) may apply. And I just now realize that I've typed a wall of text, and gone crazy with the parentheses...
  5. Sounds like a plan, Starflier. Thanks.

Incidentally, I just noticed that with the possible exception of SnowTigress (don't know where from), everyone who posted here, including me, is apparently Canadian?

    The Freedom Test

Gotta be able to read to even know about the game, man, unless you go to cons or have friends who are into the game. Even then, getting the game requires reading, installing the game requires reading, playing the game requires reading. Gotta be a bit more strict than that.

Could work... Sounds like just the right balance of 'Silver-Age heroic humor' and 'secret agency of heroes and possibly government people' to make it at least a top contender (the only contender now, but I'm waiting to see what I and/or other people come up with before I make my decision). If I decide to use it, you'll certainly be credited (in some way), and either way, thanks for the idea.
  10. I'll probably be bouncing between VIP and prem for a while, for financial reasons. Once I'm stable financially again, I'll figure out which works best for my life (ie: do I have time to make VIP worthwhile other than the 400-Paragon Point stipend? Stuff like that), and follow that path.

    TLDR: Don't know yet.

Global handle same as your forum name? Or is it something else?
  12. Once again I get to show off my mad alliteration skillz, yo!

I'm considering forming a SG with my new main, Spektra, a Kheldian Peacebringer (rp foremost, but light-rpers and non-rpers will be welcome), based around the concept of 'light-related powers and/or extraterrestrial origins'. Of course, as these aren't the core of the CoH experience, others will be welcome, but the light/alien concept will be the core. Essentially something along the lines of Nova Corps or the GL Corps, but not 'wholesale ripped from them'.

I have a few ideas, mostly consisting of "acronyms formed from words like 'LIGHT', 'LUX', 'LUMINARY', or 'ORDER' (because the badge I have set is 'Agent of Order', and I kind of want that to connect if possible, but not necessary)". Acronyms that sound like government agencies and/or supergroups seem to be eluding me at the moment.

What I'd like to ask of you, dear Virtuites, are suggestions - for acronyms from the above, for new names that aren't acronyms, and so on. Also, assuming I find/am given a good name, and assuming thereafter that the group takes off, I will be welcoming applicants for positions within the group.

TL;DR: New group forming, needs a name and members. Have a few ideas for name outlines, but need input and suggestions.

I'll start it out. When thinking up names I begin with a simple word that describes the character, more or less. For example, darkness. I'll take it and search for synonyms, antonyms, phrases, and the like. This should greatly expand your pool of words to use.
Concept comes first, as a roleplayer foremost. For example, with Lame d'Ombre (one of my older mains, still listed in my sig - name means something similar to 'Shadow Blade', for those unfamiliar with French, and the 'Lame' is pronounced like 'lamb', not 'layme' or 'la-may'), I thought 'Canadian immigrant (write what you know, and other than the 'immigrant' part, that's definitely it), sister of Etoile du Nord (my other Canadian alt, unintentionally but in hindsight shamelessly named for Northstar, but in French as well, lol), stealthy/dark'. Name follows, to fit the concept. Color scheme/costume choices to fit both of the above, and alternate name ideas in case the one I want is taken come last.

Does anyone here have any advice on trying to remain healthy in a convention?

Crap.
  17. I've been taking a lot of AE farms lately, mainly because due to a combination of financial fluctuation and altitis, I've been playing since CoH beta (yeah, before the game in its most basic form was available to the public), and STILL don't have a single 50. Or really anything higher than I think mid-20s/low-30s. I want the thrill of that final ding, and now that Incarnate system is go, I want to taste that sweet nectar just once.

I know this wasn't a thread about 'why o you farm', I just felt like, since it seemed to have simmered down from 'new exploitz?' to 'farming discussion in general', I wanted to speak my mind on my own reasons.

    Eh?

If you're talking about Mormons, yes, Meyer(s?) is a mormon, but there's nothing in the books (that I've heard, from my ex who was a huge Twi-hard) or the movies (this I can attest to, she made me watch all the ones that are out to-date) that tries to lure people to the faith, and she (supposedly) didn't even so much write it as dream it and record the dream for publication.

Now if you're talking about something else, you'll have to explain a bit better, but I haven't heard or seen anything trying to get people to join any sort of group (other than Twilight fans) in what I know of the series.

  20. I'm sort of all of the above (except hold the naughty stuff please, most of the characters I've been rolling lately - relatively speaking, as I've been away for a while again - are underage or barely-legal). Depends on the character I'm playing, and the mood I'm in when I load up the game.

Teach me to skim... But at least I did satisfy curiosity based upon the part that you emphasized, anyway. I'd add more questions (and probably answer them, just because I answered the originals), but I just woke up and am not feeling the creative juices at the moment.

As for your own questions, just for completion's sake: All human (the three whose perspective I've posted before, and most of my other alts), and most of my heroes are either Gray and Grey Morality or straight-up Black and White Morality, and my villains are the opposite side of a B&WM. My Praetorian, Target Hunter, is more of a 'money and not-money morality' type.
  22. Quote:
Where was your character born? What year?
(Magistress Maxima) Paragon City, specifically Kings Row, in 1993

    (M-2) Also Kings Row, '95

    (Jani Sigma) Galaxy City, '95

    Quote:
Do they have any siblings? If so, how many, and older or younger?
(all) Nope, only children all. At least the 3 I mentioned above. I have others, and vague plans for more, without fully fleshed-out stories as of yet. I -think- (it's been so long since I played either) that Lame d'Ombre and Etoile du Nord are sibs (sister and brother, respectively).

    Quote:
    Any pets?
(all) No. Maxima is considering a cat, probably black, because she's a mystic, and, y'know, witches and familiars...

    Quote:
How is their relationship with their family?
(M-2) I don't talk to 'em much anymore. They don't approve of my hero lifestyle. The Young Phalanx were like a family to me, but I haven't seen the guys in so long, dunno if they're still even around.

(Jani Sigma) My sitch is even less good than M-2's. Been kinda on my own for the past couple years, just me, M-2, and for a while, the YP. I've been outta commission for a while too, so I know my boy's still there for me, but I don't know about Boomer and the rest.

(Maxima) Yeah, I'm still in good with my folks. Sucks to hear about you guys' situation, and if there's anything I or ANM can do, you just give me a comm, 'kay? Anyways, my folks are fully supportive of my work, though I guess they get worried, understandably, I mean I'm putting myself in a dangerous situation here. But mom, dad, you've gotta realize, I've got powers, I've been studying the old grimoires the wizard left me, so I'm not gonna die on ya. Plus, the city's got those med transport things set up, so I'm cool.

    Quote:
Does the character have any tics?
(this one could use some clarifying, or else I'm just not getting your intent)

    Quote:
What style of clothing do they they wear?
(M-2) In civvies, I go pretty casual. Just like... jeans or sweats, board shorts in the summer, tees, tanks, all that kinda stuff. I do like to keep a bit of a theme going, there's usually some kinda spot, somewhere on the clothes, that matches my uniform color. On duty, I'm like... a younger mirror of my inspiration, Manticore. Fancier times, like the Winter Gala and such, a Manticolored tux (y'see what I did there? heh-heh...) and maybe a domino mask to hide my identity if it's a capes'n'tights kinda party.

(Jani Sigma) Yeah, I'm kinda easygoing when it comes to fashion. You see all these girls go nuts, all 'Eee! New Prada bag, must have!'? That is so not me. I keep it simple. Nothing fancy, lot of basic black (some heroes who shall remain nameless have called me Goth girl or Emo kid because of that decision, but it's my life, it's my style, you know?) and stuff like that. 'Course the glasses, both in my civvies and on-duty. I don't really -have- a secret ID as such anymore, I'm Sigma on the streets, Sigma in the sky, and Sigma in the field.

(Maxima) On duty, it's mystic raiments kinda loosely inspired by comic book sorcerers and by the pictures in the old grimoires I mentioned in that aside to my 'rents a bit back. Off duty, I'm casual, clean, and relaxed. I don't like to get too crazy-elaborate, plus I don't really have a lot of money (you'd think it'd be simple, I'm a mystic, why can't I just 'zap' some money up? But it's not that easy, can't exactly use my powers for personal gain, it's called the Threefold Rule - misuse my power, and it'll come back on me three times as harsh later. Plus, I'm still mastering fire, lightning, and getting myself from place to place, you know?) and that can be kind of a barrier.

[quoteDo they have any birthmarks, tattoos or scars? If so, how did they get them?[/quote]
    (all) nope

    Quote:
Do they have a favorite snack or drink?
(M-2) Love my Mountain Dew, 'specially the Amp line. Keeps the ol' energy up for 'work', y'know? Definitely a fan of Starbucks too, I love the caramel, java chip, and vanilla bean frappuccinos. The chocolate pretzel sticks are good too. But really, if I want to name a favorite snack of all time, I'd say a good old-fashioned hot soft pretzel, or an 'American' apple pie.

(Jani Sigma) That kind of snacking is gonna have you too big for your uniform one of these days, babe. Now me, I like a good piece of fruit, I'll take an apple, pear, banana, you get the idea, over some sugary, high-calorie snack any day. But I have to admit, I do have one vice, good thing it's not available all the time: I love, love the bacon mushroom melt at Wendy's. If I didn't have a figure to look out for, and wasn't worried about all that grease and cholesterol leading to early heart problems, I could eat those every meal.

(Maxima) My vice is simple: chocolate. Any girl, and even a lot of guys, will tell you it's nearly the best thing Man has invented, as far as food goes. Especially when it's wrapped around caramel or peanut butter... Oh, yeah, took a vacation up to Canada with my folks last year, and in British Columbia (beautiful place, but that's another story), there's this chocolatier called Rogers' Chocolates? They have this one bite-size little treat, it's a drop of caramel, wrapped in chocolate, and topped with Himalayan pink salt. It is the best thing I'd ever tasted, let me tell you! And I heard from a pen-pal I have up there (someone I met while I was there, we started writing each other when I got back), they're starting to sell one that's the same thing, but with peanut butter instead of caramel. She said it was amazing...

    Quote:
Are there any musicians they like in particular?
(M-2) I like a lot of different types of music. I'm really into Nine Inch Nails circa Year Zero/The Slip right now, and some dance type music, you know, like Basshunter, Armin Van Buuren, Darude, and so on.

(Jani Sigma) Yeah, those NIN albums rock, but you know, I can't agree on the dance music stuff... I hear it, all I hear is noise. Yeah, like right now, he's playing freakin' 'Going Wrong' now. Good lyrics, but that bass overload, the 'bomp, bomp, bomp' and 'zweeee' sounds of the whole freakin' genre... I dunno how anyone can listen. I mean it's good on paper, but then you add the music... I do like Linkin Park, though I haven't heard the new album yet. And... Ugh... Can't believe I'm admitting this... I do like some of the 'boy band' junk out there...

(Maxima) I'm a music lover in general. There's not a piece of music I listen to that I don't like. Right now, though, classical and Celtic sounds are helping me study a lot, so I have to give them a plug, right?

    Quote:
How do they behave when they're angry? Do they cry, scream, become cold, etc?
(M-2) I blow off steam. I take it to the streets extra hard. Let's say... PPD and the big-name heroes like it when I'm angry. Bad guys? Not so much.

(JS) I know, I've been there. I tend to do the same, unless I'm already in an emotional place that day, say I just watched a tearjerker of a movie, or something. That's when I pretty much shut myself away for the day. Sometimes my boy manages to slip in and... well, that's another story, probably not something to talk about in an interview like this...

(Maxima) Oh, my, god, you did not just... Sigma, you are nasty! Though I guess that probably does a bit of 'blowing off steam' in its own right, huh? Huh? Hehe... Yeah... I go for a fly, or hit up the Astral Plane for a while, meditate... Study my lessons... Once in a while, if I'm -really- mad, I'll do like M-2 and hit the streets hard.

    Quote:
Are they afraid of anything in particular? If so, why?
(M-2) Me, afraid? Ha ha... I eat fear for breakfast!

(JS) He lies... He's afraid of heights, the big baby... Yeah, the guy with the antigrav in his suit is afraid of heights. And until he met me, he did kinda have a bit of a 'girl-phobia' thing going. It was cute, but kinda annoying. I had to really work to crack his shell there. It was worth it, though. As for me... I've kinda got a thing about the three S'es: spiders, snakes, and scorpions.

(Maxima) I fear not mastering my abilities in time to help the other heroes against what is to come. The night my powers awakened, I had a vision in a dream. Invasion, on multiple fronts... And as I've seen, one of these fronts has begun already: the Rikti.

    Quote:
    What do they find funniest?
(M-2, JS) Sometimes it's each other, sometimes it's the wacky stories we heard around the YP base.

(Maxima) These two. They're all over each other, but the previous questions show they don't really have a heck of a lot in common.

    Quote:
Do they have any pet peeves? If so, what are they?
(M-2) I don't like these people who, when you rescue them from bein' mugged or what-have-you, they say crap like 'Maybe I was wrong about capes'. I mean geez, buddy, we're all over the city, savin' people left and right, puttin' out fires the freakin' fire department oughtta be dealin' with, fightin' off invading Rikti and crap, and it takes me swooping in and personally rescuing -you- before you start to think heroes are good for the city?

(JS) I totally agree with my boy. These people call us to help, we do, and they act like they expected us to join in and try to take their crappy purse or whatever.

(Maxima) People who don't realize that without the people, we'd be nothing. We're not heroes if there's no one to rescue. But yeah, that whole 'I guess I was wrong about capes' thing does get under my skin a bit...

    Quote:
    Are they annoyed easily?
    (All) Not really.

(M-2) Some things get to me pretty easy, but overall, I'm not like a hothead goin' off on the slightest provocation or anything.

(JS) I'm with him. It really depends on the situation. These questions are gettin' pretty close to that point, though...

(Maxima) I'm a calm person. Especially since I started meditating and studying the grimoires and such. I have to be, really.

    Quote:
Are there any qualities in others that they find particularly endearing?
(M-2) I do like someone who knows how to hold their own in a fight. Guess that's why Jani and I get on so well. That and the... yeah, not for this interview.

(JS) Hey, there's more to us than fighting and... that... But yeah, skills are a good thing, and someone who knows the difference between a girl who just likes black, and a goth chick.

(Maxima) Kindness, strength of both body and spirit, and a strong sense of right and wrong, are qualities I admire.

    Quote:
What bad habits do they have?
(M-2) I used to bite my nails a lot. Not so much anymore.

(JS) Dunno... Would you consider fighting crime a 'bad habit'? I mean when it's putting your life in danger, not just in general.

(Maxima) I'm relatively habit-free. I've kind of picked up a habit of imitating those comic-book sorcerers, with the portentous-sounding phrases like 'By the Searing Seas of Syrax!' and such, but... aside from that...

    Quote:
What possessions do they hold dearest?
(M-2) My bow, for sure. Really oughtta upgrade to something more modern, say a crossbow or something, but it's my homage to my inspiration. That, and my girl, but she's not really a 'possession'.

(JS) My boy for sure. *tongue out* If you can say me, I can say you. Really though, I dunno, I don't really put a lot of value in possessions.

(Maxima) The old grimoires, my camera, my grandma's old radio...

    Quote:
Who do they consider their best friends? If they don't have any, why?
(M-2) Jani, the YP (though I haven't talked to them in ages), myself.

(JS) My boy, the YP, me.

(Maxima) My Canadian penpal, my ANM teammates, and everyone who's helped me get where I am today.

    Quote:
    Do they have a 'spot'?
(M-2) I'm more of a nomad these days. No 'spot' per se.

(JS) Same here. I like to move around.

(Maxima) I'm fond of the top of Atlas' globe in Atlas Plaza, Pocket D, Silver Lake, Platinum Lake, and Royal Overlook (the last three, as you know, all in Steel Canyon).

    Quote:
How do they speak? Do they have any verbal tics?
(M-2) I talk pretty normal, I think. I do sometimes drop the 'g' on some verbs, bit I'm thinkin' that's still pretty normal, huh?

(JS) I'm kinda the same way as my boy there, but a bit less with the 'g'-dropping.

(Maxima) So yeah... you know the stereotypical 'teen girl language'? Not quite that, but not 'not-that'. On occasion I do throw in a bit of what tvtropes calls 'Buffyspeak', like... a thing that uses Buffyspeak.

    Quote:
Are they more introverted or extroverted?
(M-2) Used to be I was kinda both, more outgoing but when around the ladies I kinda turned inward. Now I'm a social animal, for the most part. Though I'm a lot more open in the privacy of the room me and Jani share.

(JS) I was never an introvert, but since me and my boy met we've both made big steps into dealing with other people.

(Maxima) I'm a social person, I enjoy talking to, and working with, other heroes, and non-powered people too. I'm better when I'm with someone who sees/feels the flow of the mystical energies like I do, though, because it's like... I don't have to explain everything, we can just talk about normal stuff, strategize if we're working together without me having to be all 'hey, the aura on that guy is darker, maybe he's in charge, we should take him out' and all that.

    Quote:
    Are they honest with others?
(all) Can you really be a hero if you're not open and honest? I mean we all have to keep some secrets, like our real identities and such, but other than that kinda thing...

    Quote:
    Are they honest with themselves?
(M-2) Think so... I don't think I'm hiding anything from myself, and if I was, Jani knows me well enough that she'd see it, and I trust her to tell me.

(JS) Yep, both of us are pretty true to ourselves, and each other.

(Maxima) Honesty to oneself is part of the creed of my ancestors. If I'm to be like them, I have to follow that.

    Quote:
Do they treat people with or without powers any differently?
(all) Well I mean you don't often have to rescue powered individuals from muggers, but other than that, we're non-biased.

    Quote:
What do they think of the Police?
(All) We respect them, and when they need us we're always there to lend a hand. They really should get a few capes on their payroll though, so they're not -always- asking us for help.

    Quote:
How do they approach something they're totally unfamiliar with?
(all) Cautiously. Not fearfully, but cautiously.

    Quote:
What is their general attitude towards money and material things?
(M-2) Money helps me keep up with the latest demands in crimefighting. I can't exactly handle a flying living flamethrower with burning arrows and no flight capability, can I?

(JS) I mean I'm glad my boy's got some income, keepin' us on top of the latest tech for the job, but 'things' don't really matter to me so much these days, between learning to live without them, and having the job and my boy to keep me occupied.

(Maxima) To be truly enlightened, one must cast off the need for material possessions... Guess I'm not -that- enlightened yet, I still love my TV, my gaming stuff, clothes, still hoping I can earn enough (or sweet-talk the 'rents) to get a car...

*Theme/Concept: Primarily a Magic-themed SG. Ars Nova Mystica (New Mystic Arts, in 'canis latinicus') is aimed (in-character) towards the revival of a group of ancient mystics from which its founder, Magistress Maxima, is descended.

*Leadership: Currently, just me (Magistress Maxima). This will change as new recruits are brought in.

*In-Game Contact(s): @Theta (once again, more will be added as recruits are brought in)

A damn sight better than most non-RPers we get on the 'V' here. Most of those tend to be 'RP sucks, you're all ******** for doing it', in my experience. NOTE: Not a generalization, just my own experience.
