Yes, an NPC that could give some backstory on the event would be superb. Don't just explain the RP side on a web page, include some in-game RP as well.

Taking the day off today for other reasons, but testing this event is a bonus
Feedback:
Are objectives clear when the Event is running?
The learning vurve is pretty low. Once I corralled the map with the compass icons and the banner status bar, things fell into place. Scouting for the GM is a little tricky though.
Are rewards being handed out correctly?
AFAIK, yes, although I haven't tested TOTing yet for the costume salvage.
Are there any problems with the event occurring in any City Zone? (Note: The event will only be present In Paragon City or the Rogue Isles City Zones, and not in any PvP Zones, Hazard Zones, Trial Zones or Co-Op Zones)
Besides Atlas Park, not as far as I know. However, wherever the event happens, the lag increases, even when not in lag-inducing combat.
Are there any graphical effect bugs?
Not AFAICT.
Do banner icons appear correctly on the MiniMap when the event is running?
Yes.
Do waypoints correctly appear when the event is running? (Note: Navigation waypoints of active Missions orient players to the Halloween Event objectives when a playerÂ’s character is near one, and should disappear when they leave the area.)
Yes, AFAICT, but didn't have any missions active during testing.
Are enemy NPCs appearing at the appropriate level? (i.e. a Level 50 should be able to fight side-by-side with a Level 5 character).
Looked good to me.
Are all badges awarded correctly?
Yes, AFAICT.
One point of subjective feedback re: the GMs: Hunting for the GMs can be frustrating. Also, since the GMs spawn in the same place in a zone (AFAICT), it only rewards those who have done the event before, since they could easily camp the GM spawn point. If there is only one GM spawn point per map, you might as well place a map marker for the GM in addition, to reduce frustration of players who haven't run the event before.
Edit: I also agree with others that the timer may need to be a bit longer to facilitate low-pop servers in earning badges and temp powers before a premature end of the event. -

Because you're still giving them money.

How is "be uniquer" a fallacy? Isn't it just a mindset? What's false about coming up with more unique names? Is it not an adequate way of circumventing the supposed issue of "running out of names"?

Quote:As a matter of fact, when I started using Windows 7 RC, I installed it onto a "new" HD (a smaller SATA drive that I wasn't using) and slaved my former XP HD to that, in case I wanted to go back to XP (which I haven't, LOL). So The OS is on C: and the game runs off of D:, both physically different hard disks. And I haven't had any problems. So for me it's more a temporary solution than "the" solution, since the bug is still here. Has anyone with Win7 been able to play CoH installed on a different drive than system? I'm still looking to find how to make it run on d: but I'm running out of idea at the moment...
Edit: and the scary part, looking at your system specs, is that my PC is almost the same, down to the mobo, but with exception of the drives. -
Quote:Indeed, the thesaurus is my friend.i think the Thesaurus/Dictionary route is a good one to take. Also, try an online latin converter like:
http://www.translation-guide.com/fre...glish&to=Latin
Ice Girl = glacies puella
Works for me
Example, my friend made a toon back in the day called Dark Blue... and you know that had to be way early in the game's history for a name like that.
I made an homage/ filler toon named Basalt Twilight. Still sounds cool, right? And still has the basic premise.
(Of course, I came up with that name before the whole Twilight fiasco)

Gah, damn my hasty typing

How is it discriminatory to make the product more playable by using the latest technology? There's a reason why OSs get updated and redeveloped... to make the software work better with the hardware.
Tiger is two revisions behind... it hasn't had any major updates since 2007, just security patches. Mac moved on, it make sense that CoH would also, since it would certainly be more effort than worth to keep the game backwards compatible with an OS that hasn't been updated for over two years.
Quote:That's a red herring. They want the game to run better; ergo, they need the OS to meet certain requirements. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the Windows requirements were updated for GR. But this is no worse than asking Windows users to have SP2 or SP3 installed.Still, show some respect to your veteran players...please....
Also, Mac users who are running Leopard can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $30... not necessarily bank-breaking, even in this "economic crisis", IMHO. -
I have a question about the contest, not a comment:
When I save a local copy of my story arc to my computer to attach to an email, the STORYARC file already has the info for the Custom Critters and the Custom Villain Groups within it. Therefor, ins't it unnecessary to also attach the critter and cvg files? I ask because, although it seems redundant, I also don't want to be disqualified, especially since I may not have those files on my computer any longer.
Other than that, I just need to get 5 screenshots and I'm set. -
Quote:I'm a vet player, and I have no problem coming up with unique names. And they don't even include numbers or weird characters or anythingI have noticed that when I create a new character that the hardest part of character creation has been finding a name that is not already in use. If there is anything a player wants it is unique character with a cool name. I do not like the idea of throwing a number after a name just to have a certain title. How about a name generator or giving veteran players some priority on names. I am sure there are pleanty of dead accounts that are soaking up some very cool names. Just a suggection.

Quote:That gets me thinking... the bigger a celebrity a hero is, the more Influence they typically have. If that hero were to suddenly become a vigilante or, goodness forbid, a villain, the betrayal of public trust would be that much greater, immediately making him or her very Infamous (you know, like having a lot of Infamy). I mean, imagine if Statesman suddenly went all Recluse and started punching holes in buildings... and heroes.Er, and for monies. I asked about this, too.
In fact, I don't think I asked anything other than market ish.
Matt shrugged and avoided the question. I had better luck with Joe, who seems too nice to be an actual human. Consider the possibility of a robot.
In any manner, Joe explained that their whole focus on influence in the game was not to be a measure of wealth, but exactly as the word is defined. Something more of a measure of how heroic your character is, or the level of notoriety your villain has achieved.
In that sense, it would not be logical for a Villain to retain their notoriety as they are trying to earn the influence of the people as a Hero.
Obviously, this was the intended in-game lore explanation of influence and infamy. Although, it simply boils down to monies and how wealthy one is.
So, with that said, as further detailed explanations resulted in Joe being carted off by the tall Marketing dude, who never once smiled, I assumed the monies will be frozen. It was confirmed that it will not be deleted or lost.
If it is frozen .. I don't know. I try to think of it from a casual player perspective and fail. I only want to do it for manipulation purposes.
Well, that's one reason how one could justify Influence to Infamy conversion anyhow -
Cripes... all that info, plus your architect files, plus five screenshots? Are they sure they don't want a blood sample to boot?

To get the thread back on topic, as Bill mentioned, the CoP was a grand event that held up to three teams at a time. Lamentably, it had to be deactivated due to problems with SG members not participating in the raid being able to get unlimited experience with certain missions. I'm not going to hold my breath about seeing it in the future, but it would be nice.
Base raids also fall into the redevelopment category, and were the catalyst for the I13 PvP changes. The problem with player-created bases is the exploitation of geometry in order to teleport players into "prisons" and other inescapable places, so base raids were deactivated for the time being.
I know that the survey sent out in 2008 mentioned more PvP-centric battles in the future; and Castle has mentioned the desire to include more objective-based PvP in the future, such as "capture the flag" scenarios, etc.
Currently, the Mothership raids and Hamidon raids are the best we have. With global channels, it's pretty easy to set up a "raid channel" without having to resort to Arena or Broadcast. The Hamdion raid takes a fair degree of coordination, while the MS is mostly a mash-up with priority targets being those damn Rikti Magi.
In any case, I understand where you're coming from, and would enjoy more types of scenarios that involve more than just one 8-man team. I think CoH could easily build upon the Hami raid and MS raid schemes in the future, although I would love to see a mechanism for instanced raids. If base raids and IoPs can ever be sorted out, that would also be a bonus (although some of the original premises were flawed IMO). Anything else would be icing. -
Quote:Since we're on the topic, I've never considered the bus a form of public transportation. It's more like a meeting room, typically filled with strangers, that just happens to move between different designated meeting brake stops.
I've never concidered CoX to be an MMO anyway... It's a 1-8 man game where you select server ("missions") in a rather big chat lounge similar to a game world with some optional events occationally (e.g. miner strikes in Sharkshead ever 5 minutes).
... yes, that was complete sarcasm. -
Quote:They've given news outlets exclusive coverage before, especially when they publish videos. So no shock and awe there. So they tell MMORPG.com and Twitter it before they post it on their official website? Marvellous.
Just patiently waiting for the official submission guidelines. If I had to guess, I don't think attendance at HeroCon will be a gate to qualification - I think they're just going to announce the winners there in a formal fashion. -
I put in three floors in my workshop yesterday but decided I didn't like the way it had turned out. There wasn't enough space in my design to fit salvage storage between the floor and ceiling without having them clip into the floor or ceiling of another floor. So instead, I removed the third floor and elevated the second floor just enough to fit storage items underneath it.
Because I won't need any desks for a third floor, the second floor will probably be L-shaped or elongated to provide more space. However, it probably won't go wall-to-wall so I can give the room a nice open feeling.
Still a WIP though - I'll post pictures when I'm happy with it, as time allows. -
Quote:I started with my Tank, Obsidius. Although I had a few other characters during his rise to 50, including my first villain, I mostly forced myself to play Obs through to 50 before branching out too much.
what toons have you been playing for all this time?
My next character was Alaestor, my Warshade. Although I was also working on my villain at the time, I ended up teaming more hero-side, so he ended up being my next lvl 50 character.
Then my first villain, my Mastermind named SteelRain (later renamed Iron Reign) finally got his playthrough once I started to tire of hero-side content.
Currently my Crab Spider, Hunting Machine, is sitting at about 45. He's an AoE monster and fun to play.
None of my toons are built specifically around mechanics - they're all thematic in origin.
I have a couple of other characters I kick around, but they mostly exist for low-level teaming and to try different ATs - although the former is less of an issue thanks to the new SSK system.
Quote:have you played one from when you started till now?

The four types of CoH Personalities:
A) This CoH is half full!
B) This CoH is half empty!
C) Half full! No, half empty! Half... wait, what was the question?
D) Hey! I ordered a cheesburger!
Ah, good old Gary Larson -
More power to you. You've done some fine work in the past, and this thread has inspired me to do something similar in an abandoned factory sort of style, with either two or three floors. Can't wait to see what you come up with
