The new wings do look great, but I think the invention system was the WRONG way to bring them in. Especially with the current drop rates, it makes it a pain in the butt to get them, and renders them similar to the "1334" camp/raid/massive time sink items of certain other, not-to-be-named, mmos.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Inventions system is exactly the RIGHT way to bring these into the game. I'm glad we won't be seeing dozens of fairies, insect men or women, and rocket boot guys the day after I9 goes live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Given the metric asston of time Jay and the other dev's part to program them to look and move the way they do, I couldn't agree more.
IMHO, animated costume pieces (capes, wings, trenchies, auras, jetpacks, etc.) should be a little harder to get than non-animated pieces. It makes them that much more rewarding, especially given the time and resources required to impliment them.
Can't wait to make Mecha-Obsidius post I9
Excellent and informative article BTW JayLooking at that wing model helped me understand what all the hubbub is about behind the scenes.

Heh, I played said game for a while as well. At first I was having a pretty decent amount of fun, and the game was, well, shiny. What stirred me back to reality was the first "Go kill this habitual troublemaker" mission. I journey for a few minutes, find what looks like the spot, to see 6 people standing in a line to nowhere. It's then that I realize, these people are waiting for said monster to spawn so they can have their turn to kill it. "Oh crap," I thought to myself, "this is just like another (IMO) overrated, massively populated MMO I once played. RUN AWAY!"
[/ QUOTE ]
When I had to wait 18 real-life hours for a world spawn that someone may beat me to, to have to wait again, to possibly complete the extra-hard quest, just to get a cool epic weapon, that's when I left (MMO name withheld to avoid embarrassing it).
Thank you CoH, for not having a ton of instances, and not having my character's career hinge on world-based line-waiting spawn monotony
Euler, thanks for summarizing why I've stuck with this game for almost 3 years now
Edit: As an aside, I think it's funny that in CoV, you start your career killings "Snakes" and "Spiders"... -

I don't need to argue with someone who wouldn't know civility if it walked up and bit them on the behind. Later. I'll argue with the rational instead.

Cryptic Studios, Inc. announced today that the company has moved to a larger location in Los Gatos, California, adopted a new logo and relaunched its web site as a result of significant growth. Cryptic Studios, Inc., an independent developer of massively multiplayer online games, announced today that the company has moved to a larger location in Los Gatos, California. The relocation is precipitated by a significant growth in staff to create multiple massively multiplayer online projects.

No sir, I don't like it. Not to be unpleasant, but whoever designed the new logo should have all their body hair waxed off -

Is anyone else slightly disappointed with that video?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. The videos are always teasers.
Heck, I'm glad they don't show too much - things that have been in videos before (like feather physics for wings, robot leg sounds for robot legs, walking, etc.) sometimes don't make it to Live (or are just for demo purposes), often leaving those who notice these small details disappointed. -

What's with the new Cryptic logo?

I was gonna ask the same thing.

OMG.. they nerfed the Cryptic logo! WTH!!!BBQFTW11!!SHIFT

Well, it does look more round, soft, and foamy -
Had the same problem w/ FF, but reloading the page worked for me. Otherwise, might be a problem w/ WMP or QT.

Haven't read any of the other posts, but did want to post my feedback.
Although I understand programming for I9 probably meant that not much could be done for the V-Day event. the Winter Event was a lot cooler than a rehash.
Although I appreciated that I could get last year's badges on new characters, and old characters could get new stuff, the four missions just to unlock Snaptooth became monotonous very fast, especially across multiple characters.
Some of the monotony could be bypassed by teaming w/ a high-level character and just going for the objectives, but I don't think this was they way it was meant to be played.
The same could be said for Snaptooth. Snaptooth missions at-level (like last year) could prove overly frustrating without a decent team to help absorb the multiple waves of ambushers. Using the purchasable temp powers and Nectar helped, but more often than not, a "squishy" would take agro and drop within seconds with multiple arrow and knife wounds
So in closing, the prizes were great, but the road to get them could be somewhat redundant and frustrating. -

It could also just be a change in animations for a claws or spines power.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or it could be the Nemesis Staff seen from a strange angle.
[/ QUOTE ]
ha castle is wrong, nem staff is not that shape or color
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, of all the things that looks like, Nemesis Staff is not it.
Note the knob on the end of the staff.
_Castle_, if you guys let a revamp of Spine Graphics out of the bag with the screenshots, you guys might as well say so.

A_S,
What is meant by the "end" of the "Top Cow comic run"? Is the comic going away, going to be done by Marvel... ? Don't leave us hanging -

After the Top Cow comic run ends, we'll be looking at some other options to continue to highlight some of the amazing work (art and fiction) you guys come up with!
[/ QUOTE ] So...are the comics going the way of the novels? Daaaaang.

Oh no... no more comics?
If that's true, I will be a sad gargoyle... -

From what I've heard, sets won't be limited by ATs or powers. Is that correct? Because I thought you could just outfit your henchmen with Sting of the Manticore or some other universal set.
I'd be interesting to find out what limitations these sets have.
[/ QUOTE ]
What? No. Each set only works in a specific type of power. Sting of the Manticore, for example, only works in Snipe or Assassin Strike powers (which I believe makes Stalkers the only AT that can slot it TWICE).
[/ QUOTE ]
What? No.
[/ QUOTE ]
actually dude, yes
You cant slot 6 times into the same power.. but if Assassin strike and snipe are two different powers... I dont think the ED of IO's will affect them...
[/ QUOTE ]
Are we talking about a single power or a power set? Single power, no (not the from the same IO set anyhow); but power set or different IO sets on a single power, yes, of course
Edit: NM, you said the same thing -

Currently the only content available for 50s is...
Killing stuff on the street.
News/Scanner, Mayhem/Safeguard. (and Shard stuff is similar.) = repeatable 1-off missions.
Trials
TFs
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait a minute... aren't there repeatable arcs in the Shard, or am I just high?
[/ QUOTE ]
There are repeatable missions and TFs, not repeatable story arcs.

I am high then! J/KThanks for the clarification Mirai.

* Not every level has all four pools (early levels don't have Pool D, the Trial pool)
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, in THAT case...
... why not just remove the Story Arc pool from levels 45-50, and assign all the relevant rewards to trials and TFs, since level 45-50 characters can do ANY trial or TF from anywhere in the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Or add some repeatable arcs or something to the 45+ game.
Something. Anything. Otherwise, there's no point to playing a character right now for fear of missing something and outlevelling da kewl loot.

Adding Story Arc drops to Safeguards and Mayhem missions maybe? -
Doc! Thanks for returning to help shed some light on the situation. Also glad the devs are keeping their ears to the ground as far as feedback is concerned.

What?!
They put the red-side version of Hamidon in Sharkshead Isle?!
<censored>
I really, really hope that they seperate that part the same way that they did blue-side; trying to get to the various enhancement merchants and mission doors is hard enough; trying to do it while dodging/avoiding mito blasts as a L20-L30 character is going to be murder.

I'm not having any problems, and I don't know anyone who is. Just because it's a big issue to You, doesn't mean it's everyone elses only priority and the dev team should drop everything to focus on it. Either have some patience, or upgrade your own equipment. I have 3 different computers running the game, no crashes on any of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
There could be no issue any larger for someone than crashing because that means not playing. That is bigger than any other bug.
Some people are crashing a lot. Some are crashing more than they used to (I am up to 1 a night from 1 month or less). I am running at 2 GB RAM, on dual 3 GHz P4s yadda yadda yadda.
Be glad you are not experiencing trouble. don't dump on those less fortunate. I am just glad it is about once a night which I can reduce by remembering to turn off my antivirus.
[/ QUOTE ]
I crashed multiple times last night along with most of the other other people on the continuously rebuilt with new people team. We'd save spots for a few minutes, some would come back and we'd reinv and some were just like "screw this" and logged. I think it's a bigger problems than capes. I did notice something though that seemed to make the problem happen more for me. Some missions we'd go into would drop your toggles upon entering them. I'm talking about even turning off your sprint type toggles. Whenever I went into these missions where I had to turn on my toggles again upon entering the missions I and everyone else on the team crashed more. Then of course we'd exit the mission and start heading to the next mission we'd have people crash while traveling so.. I don't know what the exact recipe is to crash but obviously the people supposedly working to fix it don't know either. Hopefully this patch on test clears up the problem. I'm just a bit annoyed it's taken two months to hopefully fix and it's sort have been treated like a hush hush things with the devs. Reminds me of when someone was able to get admin rights or whatever and logon as a redname in game and reset the servers. Cryptics response pretty much didn't even respond to what actually was happened but more or less was like "No one's information(other than their own obviously) was breeched". Was all done not really addressing what happened because I guess no one likes bad reality PR like hackers getting into the game or constant game crashes... Here we get a simple tiny patch note that gives us a hint at a fix to a major problem but we have a more elaborate one about a snipe animation... Hate to be a threadjacker, but sometimes you need to do it to remove the blinders from the horses.

An example of Constructive Feedback
I'm sure making a few sentences in a thread won't negatively impact a dev's schedule. But that's not the topic of the thread anyhow.
If you really have constructive feedback about issues, create a new thread regarding stability issues; don't hijack this light-hearted conversation on past MMO experiences.
Tact also helps if you want to get a point across without coming across like a forum troll. No insult intended, just friendly feedback.
In any case, this isn't the thread to air your grievances with the game. However, If you've played other MMOs and want to share your experiences, please feel free to post in this thread.
Peace -

Not suprised to see a bunch of former DAoC players in the staff
I am also a former DAoC guy (lvl 50 reaver, Nimue), and I see quite a few RvR elements in the zone-based PvP and the base raiding. RvR w/ my guild was good times
