  2. Virtue is bursting with new life! It's great to see people flying around the lower levels like steels and skyway for a change!

I just wish I could talk to them
  3. I have to prepare for an interview. So I need to go on the company website so this maintenance just ensures Ill work and not play! Thank you maintenance folks for helping my employment.

Unless of course my potential new boss wants to hear about my dual blade / energy aura warrior maiden! How cool would that be!
  4. This is all really solid information.

    Thanks. Im hoping it helps.

Thank goodness for my 2 respecs!
  5. And this is the reason I hate people like you...just saying
  6. Seriously. I know people say that FF is underperforming and blah blah blah blah...random numbers...blah...more numbers...blah blah blah etc.

I say! FF is awesome! Take the 2 group shields. Personal FF, Dispursion Bubble, and Force Bubble!

Thats it. Thats all you need. Repulsion Bomb is...lacking but still can be usefull, although I don't use it on my Gav/FF controller

But, then with all that extra slotting slot thingies and more options for pool powers which can add to your defense, you could have something quite survivable, and when you turtle up...you really turtle up.

I have seen where my FF/Grav is the last woman standing. And I am the only one able to get to a safe zone to tp my troops.

Take Aid Self and boom...your are an unhittable self reliant machine. Others may scoff at you for taking something that might not be as beneficial or offer a world of options or versality, but you are choosing FF for sheer PERSONAL defense...and that is what it will do.
  7. Ok...So now I need help beyond being pretty.

Currently my toon is level 18. I know thats not high, and I know that improvements can be made, but I am sort of at a loss when it comes to my endurance. I am seriously getting exhausted....and I mean exhausted!!

I looked over some of the guides and Im still unsure of where I am really going wrong.

My Stamina is currently slotted at 3. Ill add maybe 1 more to the mix the next level or so.

It seems as though I cannot run my second toggle "Power Shield" and complete a decent attack chain. Kinetic shield and Entropic Shield can run ok and I manage my toggles by viewing what type of enemy Ill be fighting, so I switch things on and off as appropriate.

    But...

Does anyone have a solid solution on how to mitigate some of the end loss I am suffering.

I have paired it with dual blades and currently just have accuracy and some damage enchancers in my attacks. My shields are only 3 slotted right now. 2 defense and 1 end reducer. All except Entropy shield which is just 1 end reducer.

Does the end for this defense set get better by chance?

Again I am lower level, but I have not had to much issues with other toons and since the only other melee toon I have ever played was a Dark Armor Stalker, I know about end drain to a certain extent.

    any tips or suggestions?

Either one of those choices will reduce the impact of any of the 'aura' type shields considerably. You will probably only have to do it with entropic aura - its the worst offender of the set.
I tried that...It looked sort of muddy.

My work around was through my characters name...oddly enough. I called her Sun-Dance (Which I guess I should have reserved for a DP cowboy hat wearing toon).

So when she's in her glorious Paladin form she turns into a big ball of sunlight! Score one for story writing creativity!

On one good note though. EA is working out amazing, if not for being a little bit of an end hog, but in the overall, it's pretty darn special for a scrapper.

Again, I just wished it could be more customized with the No Pulse/Aura etc that other sets get. But for general effectiveness, I must say that the Devs new improvements have made the aura one of my new favorites.
  9. Point blank sucker punch answer!

Yes, there should be a refund system if what you purchase if

    A) Does not work as intended or is defentive

    B) An error took place in the store in which you bought a duplicate item

    C) If the item does not work with the instructions provided either because of a defect or known issue

    D) If the item purchased has been missrepresented through data or numbers that peform differently after purchase or was changed shortly after the release.

Buyer beware or Caveat Emptor only works if the purchaser buys "As Is" based off of no known knowledge of the product or service, and agrees through a contract stating that they will take the product.

If there is misinformation at any point most cnhtracts will be null and void
  10. Ok. So...it hit me. I don't have a self righteous, over zealous demi-goddess, granted powers by a real goddess, who defends purity and rides a magical unicorn!

Im like...How did I miss that! How could I not have one!

    So...I made one!

So, for a celestial theme, I felt it should be a scrapper. Dual Blades is elegant, with flowing movements and giant Valkyrie Blades to finish the look. But what about the secondary. Well...Energy Aura of course! It's a glowing pale shimmering light, seeping from my toons pours because....being so pure and good, her own inner light just can't be contained.

Awesome! Now I have my female, human, level 2 Paladin, who dual wields +1 swords, and is wearing a +2 metal bra of dexterity and battle panties +4 against perversion. (Swords and Barbarian Victoria Secret Armor scales upon leveling)

Boom...Im sailing through things. Then suddenly my other shields are now available. Awesome! Now Ill really be celestial!

Nope! Not so much! My avatar is now a gian't blob of golden WTF! (Thats not weekly Task Force...for those wondering) Just a giant golden colored pulsating blob! A BLOB with feet, part of a head, and swords!

I guess what Im saying is, that EA would be Super-Coolrific if I could turn off at least the tier 3 shield...which is super by the way and I love it! Except for the giant blob I have become!

So, my suggestion is to give the option to turn off some of the effects!

    Otherwise...Im pretty happy with it.
  11. Im using chance to build up in other powers, and so far I have absolutley no idea if it's working, how long the effect lasts, how to tell it's taken effect, or pretty much anythign for that matter.

So I am curious about this as well.

Also, what's going on with Lv20 and the power pools? Who's been feeding what misinformation to the newbies? Because I've had a lot of people asking in help to be Power Levelled to 20 so that they can "get all the pool powers", which makes no sense to me and nobody I've asked about it seems to know *why* people are asking for this.
Actually I ran into some info or feedback about the power pools which was not so much about having to be a certain level, it was more about the selection process.

It's also something I encountered when respeccing...perhaps too quickly or without paying much attention.

First off, you must click the power pool option and then select the pool. Then you select the power which highlights. and then you hit next, which brings you too your entire power selection list.

I have noticed that because power pools/Travel powers in other games are a freebie that some new players select "Hover" for example. Then when promted back to their entire powers option list, they choose a new attack. This overwrite their purchase of hover, and they hit next not realizing that you actually need to purchase hover as a select power by hitting next again.

In some cases people have mentioned that they have had to wait until all the powers for their level have become unavailable before they were allowed to pick a pool power. Which I corrected for them in the help channel.

Without being able to chat or use even rudimentary functions of chat we are unlikely to see anything but LFG spam, and rightly so. Other games have a free chan or a trial channel for this purpose, and I think a Free Player channel might be the solution to the ever growing amount of players.

Also, new players seem to like helping each other out, and while this is good, they also provide misinformation. This is not because they are not potential amazing players, but I think because much content is unavailable to them (Which is fine and Im ok with this) but they still like to share their "Free" experience. The only thing is that the info they give is wrong.

Sadly on Virtue, I see a lot of help chan advice being given by new players to new players, and then watch old VIP's rip them a new one. This I have an issue with as much as spammers LFG.

I mean...I get you are a VIP...and as a bartender I meet VIP's all the time. Most of them are bloody bumholes, and It seems that trend is passing down to many VIPS who spam their infinite wisdom on Help Chan...and no...no...you are not helping! Instead between a sea of new people and duplicate questions, our filler is bad banter, poor behavior, know-it-all attitudes and general bullying.

Sure, some are aliens, some are robots, some are mutants and so forth, but they all have one defining characteristic - they're all small, skinny and light in physical appearance. The first time I became aware of this was when someone suggested that I make a giant mech character of mine Super Reflexes and my brain blue-screend at the prospect. Whaaat? But it's big and heavy and big and... Fast? Does not compute! *crash* *cold reset* So, what were we talking about?

It occurs to me that my brain is hard-wired to associate physical appearance with physical ability to quite a significant extent, as I mentioned earlier. What this results in is that if I want to make a fast, agile character, then I almost invariably create one that's small and light, and let's be honest here - the female model in City of Heroes is FAR superior at making small and light things than the male model is. If you try to make the male model too "light" it just comes off as deflated, and if you make a male character very small, he looks shrunk down more so than short. Not so for the female model. Females start FAR shorter than men to begin with and they don't lose as much of their verisimilitude when they're made skinny, though that's probably because I've grown to accept pop model "super-thin" as a legitimate body shape.

So... Yeah, I find myself making my Stalkers smaller, my Brutes bigger and my Scrappers somewhere in the middle. And I didn't even realise I was doing it

Sounds muchly like my tank issue.

    god help me.....

Im doing a mind/time controller right now. It's the first time ever I have walked through an entire mission without taking a single point of damage and the only controller I have ever made that solos at what I would considder a more scrapper oriented diff.

Men's rights / Men being hard done to is not the issue of contention here. To suggest that is what I'm "championing" is to completely miss the point. If you're going to ignore what I write, and pigeon-hole me as "anti-feminist" just because I disagree with you, then you are being completely ignorant.

The issue of contention is that you are not accepting that the feminist debate goes BEYOND rights for women. It looks at the fundamental problem with gender roles within society as a whole. To take a truly feminist approach to something, such as fixing the costume options in this game, both genders must be looked at objectively. (I.e. Without calling certain male or female physical attributes as "normal/neutral"...because what is "normal/neutral" is fully determined by the patriarchal society within which we live!)

For those interested. Check out "Raep: A Philosophical Investigation" by Keith Burgess-Jackson. It goes over all of this in much more depth then I can on a video game forum.

  17. Just thought Id back up my theory with the use of images.

The much toted Red Sonja....your muscle bound hero. Right! She's definately evoking something...and I suspect it's double sided tape.

Witchblade...she got her own comic! Yay! I wonder what she is thinking here? Maybe shes wondering how to battle hoards of darkness...or perhaps it's why her mystical armor/powers cover so little of her body? Or maybe shes pondering why her true power is avoiding the common cold?

It's nice to see that Rogue has a day off. Enough time to pose for the SWIMSUIT Edition of Marvel. Why aint Wolverine on the cover? I mean he is their top seller...Right?

But if you yourself are disappointed in your own attitude, then the onus is on you to change it. If you want to, you can, and I know this for a fact both from personal experience and from people I know.

I'm not saying you NEED to change what you like, quite the opposite, in fact - denying what appeals to you and trying to substitute it with what you believe should appeal to you but doesn't is extremely damaging to a person's psyche. I happen to know this for a fact, as well. As I said - if that's what you like, then don't be ashamed of it. Go for it, do what feels natural to you and have fun. It's why we're all here, at the end of the day. But just try not to use your own bias as an argument against other people's biases. Now THAT is terrible.
    Backup there cowboy!

I admitted a personal oppinion/bias based on what popular culture has provided as well as popular education have given to me to work with, and pretty much everyone here. Which dissapointing to myself and possibly many others, but is changing in todays world. But you cannot talk about femenism or gender roles without bringing up this oppinion, which is not just mine, but general popular culture, Video Games Especially and even in popular movies.

Since the dawn of time or written word (Not religious here, but really since the bibles tale of Eve, but Im avoiding any religious slides) princes have been saving princesses. Waking them up with kisses and battling hoards of evil to get to them. Risking all for the love of a maiden, who never even knew who they were, so that they could marry them, and live happily ever after. How many times did Mario rescue Peach. I mean seriously! It is the way of many popular cultural games and I rarely see it go in a different direction.

I recently looked at a whole bunch of Free MMO's. Each feature titilating, scantily clad, beautiful women, with giant swords, or armour that covers nothing at all, and each soft, delicate, busty, with flowing long hair. While on the opposite side there is a brutish, over muscled man with armour so large and spiky that it is almost freakish. But it definately makes the illusion of his strength to appear much more vast than his more delicate female counterpart, wearing the same armour set.

So my theory is really not mine alone.

    But...

I do not considder any of the things I create to be weak because I choose a specific costume type, or have a prefference for the more comic book themed female, who turns heads before blasting them off. I also do not like the word WEAK, which I never used...by the way. Each of my toons have deep stories attatched to them which make them strong, and mighty and since I RP, I can emote that strength of character and will, as opposed to just showing it through my physique sliders, which would only provide the look of strength.

Weak would imply that my character, or myself assume that to be strong you must possess strength in it's physical form, which I most certainly do not, and if you read my post after the one you quoted, I mentioned very strong female characters, capable of altering the world by sheer will or ability, and who have become beloved by many female and male readers based on the fact that they were developed as strong willed women and actually given a shot to be more than a second or third string character.

The reason I said I was dissapointed in my Tank Theory, is because of what is considdered the social norms. However if we are going to discuss it, you need to understand that I am not using it as an argument against feminism, body musculature, or anyone. However you cannot discuss feminism without looking at the whole picture of why the potrayal of woman in comics, games and popular media, supports the statements I made in the first place.

Projecting what you feel is feminism, or a lack there of, without actually looking at why it is the way it is, is like asking half of the question and hoping to get a full answer, and unfortunately the answer to the question really revolves around a Males concept of Feminism.

If it's important to you that your characters be female and none of hideous, dead, mutated and deformed, or evil, I am happy to report that there are women in comics who fit your qualifications and have tanker/brute powers. She-Hulk, Power Girl, Rogue, Big Barda, Molly Hayes, all have a combination of superhuman resilience and powerful melee combat abilities, and all are important characters with plenty of history. And these are just the ones I could remember on a moment's notice. So, don't feel restricted on that account.

It's actually rarer to find a character in comics, with any combination of powers, who is:
    - Female
    - A hero
    - Not conventionally attractive

In that sense, I would agree that City of Heroes hews to the "comic book aesthetic". My problem is that I think that sucks, for many reasons.
Ok...yes it sucks in many ways, but 3 out of the 5 woman you have shown might have some form of pleasing shape. But She-Hulk is green, Big Barda is not the general concept of attractive to most men, and Molly is made to dress boyish in her apparel most of the time.

To be honest I know there are super strong tank ladies in the comics, but it seems that all of my personal favorites would fall under the Controller (Jean Grey), Scrapper/Scraptroller (Psylocke, Elektra) Defenders/Corrs (Storm, Invisisble Woman,) or Blasters (Starfire, Spiderwoman) or hybrids somewhere inbetween all of those.

However most are pleasing to the eye, although exagerated in their proportions. But then again, even Cyclops started off skinny and runty and then almost in a blink of an eye, he either steroided himself up, worked out non stop for 5 comics in an interdementional space and then returned a giant beefcake. Remember they used to call him "Slim".

I realize tanks can be for girls, I was just pointing out my own flaws when creating a female tank is all, based on perhaps my social conditioning. Certainly that does not mean I ignore the fact that they are out there.

Would I like to see musclebound women in the game. Sure why not! Make one...make many! Would I play one...no probably not, just because I do not find it flattering with many of the female costume options currently available, unless armoured. But I see no issue with it, and think the options should be available to players. But going by the comics in general, depending on the artist, most females are proportioned the same, with some alterations in form here and there.
  20. Well Sam, and BrandX (I'd quote you both but Ill prolly ramble a bit as I usually do, but I'm sure you will patch it together using your keen forumite powers)

I think that the ability to have control over the size and musculature of your female toons is important, but on certain levels. Although it is possible to max out all sliders for a female, many wont do it because of the games actual technical appearence it creates do to the framework of the female form provided by the game.

However I usually make my toons somewhere along my own hight. So about 5'8 to 5'11. In an around that area, but I see a huge number of females who max out hight, weight, boobs and booty. So the desire to make something larger and more muscular is out there. Or at least the desire to make a larger woman is out there. Especially in the height department. (Although I think this looks horrid and would never do it myself)

So it's not completely out of the ordinary that people might want something muscular for a woman if I see many of these large female toons, but the general concept is to stick within the theme of the comics. When in ROME? Or when in Starwars? Or when in any universe created based on a theme.

In comics usually woman on the heoric side tend to take after toons like Sister Psyche, whos costume, although quite covering, actually points out hers secondary sexual characteristics quite obviously. OVBVIOUSLY! I am quite hard pressed to think of a female hero who is super muscular and also hugely popular? That was the beauty of Wonder Woman who had super strength through magic. But then again, through magic they can be soft, feminine and still throw a car out of orbit. Most strong, muscular females are villains, or purposefully made monstrous, and sexually unappealing.

As someone who studied fashion in school, one thing is that fashion is designed to replace the concept of feathers, fur, and markings that lead to the persons sexual characteristics. This actually objectifies both sexes equally although it maybe more subtle for a man, but not by much.

    A mans tie points where?
    Shoulder Pads do what?

Corperate or general Fashion for a man has changed very little and culturally it has always been used to emphasise his size, and structure while creating a solid look, whether he works out or not. Save for skinny jeans or bad 80's moments, it really was about making someone looks bigger through the chest and the pelvis. Women are not really that far off from that mark, only the emphasis is on the rear end and then breasts. As it always has been. Female fashion dictates this. However as mentioned that does mean that men are less sexually objectified.

How I fail in this argument!

I cannot make a female tank or brute, and being a feminist/sensualist and also admitting my own bias towards gender roles, I find TANKS/BRUTES to be a Boys job! It's terrible! I know, and I don't like it as much as the next person when I hear it come out of my mouth, and considdering I only play female toons, I do not have a tank or a brute in my list. It could be because I associate comic book tanks with men, because there are just more, and they are developed, where as female tanks are either hidious, dead, mutated and deformed, or evil, and with very little back story.

It could also be that boys in elemetary school got to play Soccer and Football, while I got to play with Fashion Dollies and Fake Stoves.
  21. I think my concerns about chat restrictions mainly stem from the fact that I want people to sub.

    1) If I reffer a friend to the free to play DEMO, but cannot speak with them properly, it causes them to leave. Many of my gaming buddies were playing other games with sub fees but are growing tired of them. They know I have been playing this for a long time and I suggested trying it. I mean, it's free, and they might like it. "Meet me on Virtue where we can...Oh wait...not talk ever"

(I know my forum account says differently, but I did at one point have an alternate account which was taken in the divorce )

    2) In a game that requires teaming, and heavens knows redside is needs the love a ton on Virtue, at least, it's almost strange that the one most important concept of City of Hero's Freedom, feels so limited. Yes I know there are work arounds, and yes I know that we could all move to Exalted to be rushed away from the onslaught of new players and technical issues, but the main concern I have is that the element of team building which has always been the shining gem of CoX has been replaced by clunky work arounds which effect new players and old players alike and create a rift between the two types of players.

Now I am not saying things should be 100% free, but we cannot tote the fact that the community is one of the best features of CoX if the new player entering the game cannot experience that community spirit that we go on so much about.

Limiting communication is fine. No custom channels is fine. Not being able to broadcast, send tells, or communicate with others just means old VIP players don't pick up new players. This can leave a bad taste in their mouths.

Right now as it is, I am having a hard time inviting friends to try the game, because word of mouth is only effective if the other person can hear, respond, and communicate back.

Free Freedom from horrid chat restriction!

Trust me! It's gets even more obscure once you get higher in levels and other people are debuffing heavily!

The conribution you make is amazing...but invisible to many of the team. Even though your debuffs are amazing.

DB/Poison will be a nice combo because of the tentacles imob.
  23. Just to add one more thing.

Woman in our loverly game, will alway call me a male because apparently my "lady-of-ill-repute" (My boob slider is low by the way. Always low) costumes make me less of a feminist.

    I say POO to them!

If being a feminist means having to MAN-UP, then that my forum friends just denotes another badly screwed concept of even a womans viewpoint of what a strong woman has to be!
  24. My issue is with the concept of feminism in games and in life in general is that it has been taken from the point of a MAN and not from a woman. In comics that has been the way it is for a long time, and life in general feminism can mean good things, but now yields almost a stigma of being negative.

While female characters can be what ever you wish them, masculine traits are not considdered attractive socially, as in many cases neither is a feminine male concept, although both are gaining traction of acceptance, but will always generally have a social stigma attatched to them.

Much like BrandX some of my favorite toons are wearing three costume parts. A top, battle panties and thigh high boots. Stripper? Tramp? or just the common perception of thematic females in comic books, which show skin, but can hardly be considdered weak or flimsy in the way of personality, and can be the backbone of a super group. Although many times female characters in comics will remain second string, or love interests.

Feminism does not mean that I as a female can't wish to turn heads, wear skimpy things or in the alternate bulk up like Hulk Hogan! I don't have to hide my feminine body to be a feminist. In fact a large part of the feminist movement was for equality, control of our sexual reproductive rights and the ability to function in society amonsgt men. However that that does not mean we lose or should lose our sexulity and sensuality in the process.

I call this the chain-mail bikini concept (those of you who know of the CMB will understand) "Ill have your AC baby, because apparently my breasts are my only vulnerability!"

Some woman will want to dress in skimpy things. Victoria Secret proves that we still like to be soft, pretty, and feel sexy. Thats called hunting for a mate! But we also do it for ourselves as well. It does not mean that woman do not want to be strong, powerful and self reliant.

As for the titan weapons and musculature, I think much of it comes biologicly as well as through social environmental that woman lose gender idenity depending on how they look, however that does not really have anything to do with feminist equality, that has to do with with gender identity and sexual physical markers.

Overall the point I am making is that making something soft or pretty, or something masculine and hard, does not make this a feminist issue, it makes it an issue of gender role, and considdering this is a game of extremes, people will "over play" their personaly traits through the physical appearence of of their avatar, which can draw a negative reaction.

An overplayed Feminist, is equally bad as an overlyplayed Demon, Cat-Person, Demi-God etc. The difference is that one is political and often times confused.
