  1. So I'm dusting off teh old Kinetics/Psychic Defender. He hasn't been played since oooohh issue 6 or 7? :/

As a matter of fact when I loaded him and looked at his attacks, they have 6 damages in each. Ah, the good old Noob days. Much simpler times then.

Anyways, does anyone have any advice on how I should slot or spec him? Its been so long I will have to relearn to play him anyways. I'm basically looking for a Mids build as the Defender guides in regards to Kinetic seem to be a bombed out and depleted wasteland.

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

Edit: I'm probably a 75/25 teaming to soloing type player. Am looking for a good PvE build. Any advice on how to make this character more soloable will be really useful as I did it very infrequently back in the day.

I made the same mistake right after I finished my soft cap build; I found a lone mob and was trying to figure out why I was only at 43.5% defense in the real numbers when my figures showed me capped... then I remembered to turn on Combat Jumping.

If I can offer a bit of advice about the rest of your build; I'd suggest moving the Steadfast to the 5th slot in TI and moving a few slots around... Weave could use another for example. For Weave I like to slot 4 Gift of the Ancients for the +endurance and recovery bonuses. I'd also slot the Smashing Haymaker set into KoB and move the slots in Boxing elsewhere; for instance Laser Beam Eyes. Hurl's a rather lengthy animation for it's damage, you may find that LBE works better for the situations when you need range... it certainly deserves more slots.
Thanks for the great info! I'm trying to go more for the Superman-esque build so I want to avoid the Leaping set for Flight. That being said Hover prevents me from using Hurl and Foot Stomp (no great loss on Hurl but Foot Stomp is a staple).

I should probably shift some slots around but I do enjoy having Hurl. It is a fun power. I don't use it too often but it is still really fun to Hurl a chunk of concrete at a minion that is fleeing from me.

I think one of the things I discovered in checking Mids last night is a full set of Obliteration in Foot Stomp would put me up to 45% I'm still unsure as to how Hover will factor into this though.

Do Hover and Combat Jumping apply the same base defense bonus? When I initially posted with all the sets and slotting you suggested I was coming up with 43 or 44%? Does Mids not apply the extra from CJ/Hover?
  3. Hey all! I've been crunching these numbers in Mids and can't seem capable of getting to the cap with my Invuln/SS Tanker. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. The OP says I need 5 sets of Reactive armor (Got it) 3 Sets of Smashing Haymaker (Got it) Invince and Weave slotted with common IO's (which I don't have just yet) 2 sets of Zephyr IO's (which I don't have, i'm working on those), the Steadfast Unique (Got it) and a full Perfect Zinger set (Got it) But i'm still not getting to 45%?

    HELP!

I know most of my attacks are a mess, but I thought the point of the OP was that all I needed was the stuff I listed to get to the defense cap.

Here is the gist of my build (i think the only bit I don't have is the 2 Zephyr sets)

  4. I have an Energy/Energy Blaster that I have leveled up to 32 in a short amount of time and it has been a ton of fun the whole time!

I always see posts about Melee and others hate knockback, etc. I think this is all predicated on the usage of your Blaster (which also seemed to be the case with your Fire Blasters). You don't just go around spamming the crap out of Energy Torrent or some other attack that scatters the mobs all over the place, and you don't just go around spamming Fireball, Fire Breath or Rain of Fire. It's all situational and you have to learn to play your character.

The inherent knockback in the Energy set is a good and bad. I love the mitigation part of it, if a mob is picking itself off the ground it isn't attacking you or your team (which helps soloing). But some teams can really have a problem with it, in these cases I run in and do what has been the most fun with this Blaster so far---BLAPPING!! I love hitting a mob with Bone Smasher and atomizing them (and I haven't even gotten to Total Focus yet 8)

Anyways, good luck on your Blaster quest and have fun!
  5. I'm trying to figure out how to make a bind for a knockback attack (like Crane Kick for martial Arts) where you execute the attack and also follow the target.

    /bind f powerexec_name Crane Kick$$follow

    Will that work?
  6. I'd like to get in on this with you guys. What is the Tank Place, Tank Time and Tank Channel for Tank Tuesday?
  7. I love this, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

/em scurries off to make a character and apply to the SG

    Focus Chi

I have Focus Chi on my MA/SD scrapper. I love it. I hit Focus Chi then Shield Charge into a group followed by DT = bunch of dead mobs.

I have this same issue with my Martial Arst/Shield Scrapper. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
  10. I'd like to join up! As you already know I'm interested. I need to pick out a toon now. Is there anything in particular you guys need?

Cowboy, have you rolled your main on Virtue yet (I know you mentioned in another thread that you were just waiting for i16 to go live)? If so, I have a new alt that may be looking him up: a hulking reptilian tanker/ranch hand named Western Diamondback.
/em steps over, around and through all the Thread hi-jacking

Yeah I did roll him up as an elec/elec Tank and I wasn't liking it. So I rerolled him as SS/Inv Brute (opposite of the original Nuclear Cowboy) with the intentions of Going Rogue with him.
  12. HaHa! This sounds like fun!

I got a couple ideas for a drummer. Johnny St. John, his claim to fame is "I totally filled in for the Black Crowes drummer for a show in Oakland back in '91!" Surfer-not too bright-slacker type.

    OR

An angrier version (think Animal from the Muppet Show)
    "WOMAN! WOMAN! WOMAN!"

"No Animal! I said 'BEAT drums' not 'EAT drums'!"
  13. Congrats on reaching 50! Too bad it was a bad guy.... :/

I've never been able to hold onto or develop a concept for a Villain that I was able to stick with and enjoy. I love all the Hero AT's though, and would love to have 50's of all of them.
  14. I'm obsessed with getting this build to 50 myself. I've wanted to make a scrapper who punches stuff for a long time now. Not punching with dark/electric/fire swirling around his hands, just good ol' Punching in the face action! Now with the varied animations you can choose for some of the MA attacks this is possible.

I've chosen to go more offensive oriented to start taking Focus Chi at 6 and Crane Kick at 8. At level 10 I have my attack chain that I will be using for a good long time (Thunder Kick, Storm Kick, Crane Kick, Thunder Kick). I feel like the last time I did research on MA there was a school of thought against taking Focus Chi, but I can't see why not?
  15. I will FINALLY be rolling my main toon when i16 goes live. That being Nuclear Cowboy of course. I'm gonna try him out as Elec/Elec Tanker with some greenish colored powers. Not sure on the colors yet, that may take some tweaking. Can't wait!

Hmmm...good point, I hadn't thought about the lust for PLing detracting from what appears to be an entertaining server.

Pretty much the same thing, although many a soul in Pocket D will argue the many nuanced differences. A lot of talking dirty in the first and second person.
If you don't like writing descriptions about how you'd undress someone, or reading about how they would undress you, steer clear of it. On the other hand, if you do, welcome to Pocket D!
  20. Thanks for the input! Is there an RP primer somewhere that will explain terms like "a request for 'MRP'?" or "bracket speech (( ))"? I've skimmed over the thread An Idiot's Guide to RP but I don't remember seeing any terms or definitions in there?

    Cheers!
  21. You guys seem to be having too much fun on this here forum. When I get home I'm going to make a toon or 2 on this server and try to acquainted with it. But I have a few questions:

-Is Virtue mostly Role-players? I want to give RP a try as I've never attempted it on any other games. RP sounds like it would be fun if no other reason than it would be different, and would hopefully be devoid of running into too many toons named DarthGokuverine.

-Is Virtue full of elitist cliques? All of my main toons are on Freedom and I have had difficulty in the past trying to find an SG where I thought I fit in. Freedom is sometimes too crowded and all the competent players stick to themselves leaving PuGs (what i find myself in most of the time) to be wrought with frustration.

    Cheers
  22. Are spots still open in this group? I would love to get involved with a static group and although I've no experience at RP on CoX I would love to give that a shot also. With my inexperience you may have second thoughts about my joining, but I can promise that I will be on and able to attend most, if not all events.

I also don't have a 50 villain character which is the main reason I would like to try this static group. The story sounds very interesting and from the sound of the tragic nature of it the toons may all burn in a fire before they get to level 50.

The AT/concept I was toying with is an orphan/runaway homeless girl who has seen enough human cruelty and neglect to drive her into the personality of a sadistic sociopath. This a totally rough character sketch, but it fits with a lvl 2 Brute I made and haven't played much.

Let me know if you are still doing the group and I have a chance of joining in. Thanks.
  23. I can't really remember the name of the gloves now, but I always like the look of the big bulky Robotic gloves. And women with stilettos

Good choices! My brother suggested Joan of Arc as a healer/buff/debuffer. Looking like a team full of Archery def/blasters and BS/SD scrappers. Which might be fun. Would need some other things to round out.

    Anyone else interested?
