Quote:*nods*Awesome time, panels were very cool. I don't know what all has been recorded, but I hope everyone gets to see the panels. The raffle prizes were killer impressive. And the devs are AWESOME.
The Devs are always awesome, but the Players... awesomesauce on the cake! BTW, Pepsi is quite the photographer... you even made me look human (sorta), and next time I go to the barber he isnt getting a tip (it looked good in the barber shop, really). Great times, and thanks to all our fellow Players who made it completely rock. -

Hate to say it but from my periodic scans of the tech Forums over the years it would appear that Cox has some very bad trunk/node/whatever routing problems, and that they really show up in regards to CoH. What you describe is almost definitely centered in your ISP.

Even if this or something like it were implemented; it wouldn't prevent "n00bishness" during an Incy Trial. Over on Guardian we have a hardcore bunch of badgers who are constantly running all of the Trials and other Badge rewarding content. AND silly mistakes still happen. Add to this the larger likelihood of n00berocity from the truly casual player who just wants to run and gun through anything because he/she "knows what they're doing", and who doesnt listen to a Team or League Leader for the same reason.
The Incarnate Trials (indeed any Trial or TF/SF) are not always really PUG or n00b friendly, and they shouldnt' be. They are specific, intensive activities that even have you "Agree to form a Task Force" or "Enter the Que" which should bring an extra level of attention to what the Player is doing. As has been stated; I do not see any reasonable reason for this 'Check' since simply paying attention (as a Player should) will generally remedy any problem in this 'Higher Level' content. And how would you feel (pardon my snark) if you failed just such a Check due to some RL distraction for a moment or two and became locked out of a Trial? Probably get a little annoyed... as you watched yourself being booted from a League that you know you could have been a part of...
If anyone has a problem with learning these (or any) Trials or TF/SF's; transfer a toon to Guardian for a bit and any or all of the more intensive content is being attempted (and completed) almost any day of the week, and twice on Saturday. Contact me at my Global (in my siggy) and if I am not doing it; I can point you in the direction of someone who is. Cheers. -

Quote:Although the hue and cry of the "Pure Villain" characters, if more than 4 Patron Power Pools are designed, would be monstrous. If you have Heroic Power Pools from Longbow, Legacy Chain, Phalanx, etc. then the four 'Arachnos' PPPs would necessarily have to be buffed out to include Circle of Thorns, Malta, Knives of Artemis, Devouring Earth, etc. etc. Patrons also. I doubt we will see such when the 'End Game' powers are going more towards Incarnate than something as Mundane as a Hero or Villain group. This idea's great, and I'm hoping the Devs will take a look. They've got a lot on their plate, but the concepts and power opportunities are worthwhile; the game's always been about customization, and hero patron pools from Longbow, Legacy Chain, Phalanx, etc., would make a wonderful addition to that.
In the end, PPP's (Villain) were designed to give a thematic counter to the APP's (Hero) as an Epic Power Pool for post Level 40 Power Set addition choices. As I have always (and I really believe accurately) stated; CoV generally 'tightened up' the very loose design of the original City of Heroes game in the areas of Enhanced graphics, Story Lines, Story/Mission Arcs, Strike Forces, and indeed Epic Power Pool rationales. The APP's make less sense to me than the PPP's in that with the PPP's there is a Patron to train you into a new 'type' of Power Set. While with the APP's it really makes very little sense for a Heroic Energy/Energy Blaster to somehow 'acquire' Force Field Mastery or Munitions Mastery powers with no explanation as to just how they garnered this 'late in life' wisdom. I mean, if Sister Psyche were to be teaching you Force Field Mastery and Manticore to teach Munitions Mastery, wouldnt it have made more sense? City of Villains was CoH 2.0.
Oh, and for the record, (IMHO) Going Rogue is CoH 3.0. Isn't this a great game? We don't have to change the name (a la EQ2) to get a whole new game and worry about porting our old characters into the new game. We just 'Flash' back and pick them up. -
I havent checked it lately, but the 'Hit Box' for a character has always been the same size (and viewable) no matter the size of the character. Which meant that Eochai's hit box was the same size as that of the standard Player Character which was the same size as say the Power Drone (buff pet) of the same Player Character. So that 'Chance to Hit' really doesnt have anything to do with player 'size' at all. All 'Chance to Hit' modifications have to do with Power Sets (Shields, Buffs, Stealth, etc.) and nothing strictly cosmetic.
This is also the case for, as Warkupo puts it, the Defender keeping track of a "half-foot halfling" who is "lost within a sea of ankles". The Hit Box for said character is still the standard size although harder to gauge the center of which overlapping Hit Box in said sea of other characters hit boxes. And my guess as to why there is a maximum and minimum character size is definition of animations and character parts. With the advent of the new "ZOMGWTFBBQ" size of the Nightmare (Zombie Apocalypse); the model is no more detailed than it originally was and loses some acuity or definition at the new size. This is also noted comically in the upcoming Holiday Event (Winter Holiday) with the Baby New Year and his hydrocephalic look. -
Just a reminder, and probably mentioned before, BUT...
when I go into the Terra Volta Plant... I go to the shield dispenser and I AM A BIG RED BALL.
Thank you. -
You're absolutely right! The actual quote from 48 Hours was along the lines of "You know what the man said; etc., etc." Referring to Samuel Clemen's quote. I stand corrected
-
Quick infobits:
1) From San Jose International Airport to midtown Palo Alto, CA is approximately 19 miles. (If the event is gonna be in Sao Paulo add 4,000 to 5,000 miles)
2) According to Annette O'Toole in 48 Hours "The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer I spent in San Francisco." So dress accordingly.
3) Google "weather in Palo Alto CA" brings up a quick 5 day forecast with links to extended weather forecasts from The Weather Channel. -
Being a SoCali, I dont have much problem with the event, and I will be there like HeroCon and the last Bay Area M&G. I actually spend most of my time talking with a couple of the CSR's whenever I get a chance, and if anyone cares to truly think about it; the logistics of major events is pretty time and resource consuming especially for a company the size of Paragon Studios.
Sidereal Note: some people would gripe even if given a year's notice of the event as being "too short"; go figure.
Tertiary Addendum: if you've been to a Paragon M&G or Event, you know; they get mighty packed. Even with a hotel to work with, HeroCon was so packed I became near "intimate' friends with many of my fellow gamers, and the last Bay Area M&G was so packed I had to Phase Shift just to get to the restroom in a timely fashion. They're saving us from ourselves here.
Quadratic Persuasion: I'm going; see you there. As I drag my Rogue Island Red PT Cruiser into the parking lot; please have something cold ready to drink. If I can remember new batteries for my camera, I will get pics of everything possible til they mug me like a renegade paparazzo. Now to try and remember Avatea's married name... Paraurahi was so much easier to pronounce. -
Omega did a Mastery run (2 actually for Mastery) on the 17th. We would have done it in one but we werent seeing the Seed drops to time taking down the Avatar and Seed at the same time for that badge. Two runs totaling 3 hours, but couldve been done in two if some of us (like me) werent n00bs to the UG Trial.

I've got to agree with Samuel; that's not a Mastermind. I am guessing the problem is the mindset of many MMO's of having a Summoner, but it's still not the same. "Summons Henchmen To Do His/Her Direct Bidding" is the definition of a Mastermind.
Now, if the battle armor you summon does your bidding at it's own discretion maybe I could agree, but not at your direct direction at all as with MM Henchies now, you can tell the suit to attack, but it chooses the attack. Would sorta stink if the armor decided that your Tier 1 attack was the Damage Du Jour for the battle or mission. Sorry, you told it to attack and it picked a pea-shooter. Or conversely, all it will fire is Tier 9 attacks and... you are drained to Nil and faceplanting laughter ensues. Maybe just Melee attacks attempted... from Range? Or a Snipe attack (rooting and all) from Point Blank Range. Even Blasters would get a laugh.
Okay, if it works like that THEN you have a Mastermind. And I would run screaming from that set or perhaps drag out the popcorn to watch the hijinks.
Oh, an addendum; the MM sets do 'Summon' other accoutrements like the Equip/Enhancements for the Henchies, Pulse Rifle, Dark Magic, Guns, Whips for the other sets, and such. A MM without Henchies is no MM at all. -
Quote:No. Inspirations... they are more colorful, and make for some kickarse sugar cookies....you hand out sugar cookies during the holidays decorated to look like alignment icons.
Sure, they arent square but icing my toast takes too long and it gets cold. Besides all my toast comes out with scorch marks that look vaguely like Our Lady of Guadalupe. Go figure. -
Man, I want to run this, but I have to work... someday...
-
I havent heard much either way on either side. I would actually say they are liked/disliked almost equally. As far as they go, they are just a pain, but for the Badger; they must be gotten, and the pool of teammates to draw from is small no matter what the population of the game or Server.
-
Give it some time, learn your Build/Playstyle, and then Alt away. You have multiple slots per Server (and multiple Servers per account) so that you dont have to limit yourself to one Build/Toon. But a Scrapper is a good first Character if you are Melee Focused to cut your teeth on, and the Dual Blades will let you work with the Combos to make things more interesting the first time around.

Quote:I havent done this in a while, but unless the change was more significant then a 4 person Farm wont do it even with the 5 minute timer. The fastest way to do it is to get a few friends and kill each other. The rep timer resets every 5 minutes I believe, so 3 friends should do it.
Friend 1 kills 2, 3 and 4
Friend 2 kills 1, 3 and 4
Friend 3 kills 1, 2 and 4
Friend 4 kills 1, 2 and 3
At this point the 5-minute timer should be over and you can start the loop again, without anyone having to log off and back on. Make sure everybody has a ton of wakies so you can rez in the spot, otherwise travel will be an annoyance.
Example:
Unless you take 5 minutes between the time that Friend 1 kills 2 (first line, first kill), and Friend 2 kills 1 (second line, first kill); Friend 2 will not receive Rep for the kill, and all subsequent kills will suffer the same way. In fact in your example it is quite possible that the only Friend to get any Rep would be Friend 1 and all subsequent kills will be Rep-less.
Personally, I have worked Rep with just two accounts (mine and my wife) using all our toons on one Server in a secluded area of Bloody Bay near a Hospital since Wakies will only work for a few rounds. The downtime between Loads/Toons generally eats up the 5 minute timer, and the Low Health of the Rezzed 'Target' toon makes for a quick kill. If the Killer toon is a MM (or perhaps a Controller) it can be set to Auto-Kill so that the Farm is soloable from the Target Account.
Unless you get 400 toons together for a marathon Rep Fest; there is no easy way to do it. -
Just to reiterate what has been stated so far; the Devs have gone to great pains to make it so that you cannot 'bork' or 'gimp' any character. This makes for a more enjoyable game for the unMMOliterate among us (me included). I came from FPS games after a bad digital accident, and havent looked back. There are 'preferred' builds, but if you find a concept you like; go with it, and enjoy. Anyone who 'ranks' you due to your build, well, there are dorks everywhere.
I personally like 'offbeat' builds myself, and have both preferred-Builds and WTH-is-he-thinking-Builds. The latter are more fun though.
The Devs have made it this way, and that means that any 'new' Power or Archetype will get hit with the Bonus as well as the Nerf Bat from time to time to maintain 'Balance' among the Powers/Archetypes, and a better game overall IMHO. Of course, come here to hear the latest nerf-gripes when that happens; it can be amusing.
Welcome to the game! -
If you mean an outline, or two color, representation of the badge selected on the capes; then I dont see a huge problem, but if you mean a full color badge; then probably not. Just saying since the capes are inherently two color so far, and I'm not sure if the mechanics would be easy or not; SCR applies.

I've got at least two of them on my hard drive if no one else can find them for you.

Double XP weekends of the recent past:
Jul 18-20, 2008 * DXP Weekend
Jan 23-25, 2009 * DXP Weekend
Jul 31-Aug 2, 2009 * DXP Weekend
Oct 9-12, 2009 * Extended DXP Weekend plus Reactivation
Mar 4-7, 2010 * Extended DXP Weekend plus Reactivation
Anyone else see a trend forming? Not to worry. Best guess would be that the next DXP Weekend (with possible Reactivation) being around the last week of this July. Which would either put it at launch of GR or two to three weeks after. If so, then many of the most obnoxious Bugs will probably be squashed (hopefully). "The dream is certain, the interpretation thereof is sure." Well, at least hypothetically. -
Sadly, this entire thread (well, the OP's participation in it at least) proves that the biggest hindrance to good gaming is RP gaming. Not trolling to fan a flame, but I have seen more Suggestions with more vitriol over an RPer (who is ALL about imagination) getting totally worked up about not having the Devs follow THEIR POV when it comes to implementing THEIR OWN imagination. Whereas I (for the greatest part an Anti-RP Player) like to imagine all sorts of rationales within the given framework of the Game and its Lore to have a character be what he or she is whether it agrees specifically with the Game or its Lore.
I will buy that individual RPers are creative and have great imaginations when they get over the hump of 'not being able to work out their creativity within the mechanics of the game as it stands'. Now, off to play my Water Blaster.
