Quote:Solid advice, but there's also the much easier cheese : buy jetpack for 10k in FBZ or WW. Fly up. Put Taunt on auto. Go AFK.
Fire tanks can handle LR, but it's not easy. [...]
But then if people took the whole ten minutes it takes to read up on that "strategy", get the jetpack and eventually make a quick second build on SOs with Taunt if they don't have Taunt, they couldn't spend hours if not days complaining about the STF being too hard. Hmm. -
I can accept not everyone cares about the game to the extent than some of us do, but... During all those 81 months, haven't you learned anything about the game to make you able to devise a strategy? Even if not, couldn't you have used a few minutes out of those 81 months to look up a guide?
People need to stop with these "was the STF changed recently". The only difference is your usual Atlas Park / AE dweller (which is, on average, a worse player than most) is coming out in IP to run the TF and get a Notice of the Well, ending up in weaker teams than usual.
Quote:All it takes is /kick. I've completed the STF on PUGs with 5-6 players and it wasn't unreasonably hard. The thing is, it actually just takes one stubborn player to mess this up. If you have someone on the team who won't max out their def, avoid aggro, or avoid melee with her, the whole team is stuffed.
Really, I read all this garbage about horrible teams and players who just won't listen, but I've found that if you communicate nicely 9 out of 10 players will listen (and yes, I do know nice, even though I'm coming like a jerk here ).
If you fail any TF, there is only one person to blame and that person is you. Very, very basic leadership skills can get any team through any task in this game. -
Quote:Silly Werner, don't you know the new DPS tanker is Fire/SS...
I wanted a DPS Tank, was jealous of everyone's Dark/Shield Scrappers, and figured that might satisfy both urges at once.
... Or whatever Iggy chooses to play at the moment. Best to just drop everything and follow suit. -
Not sure why do you think SS/Fire is Burn alone. Why would anyone mention a primary if that was the case?
-
It's the green tower that wakes him up every few seconds with that heal, I think. Another problem with the sleeping strategy is until whatever tower gives him high defense goes down, you have a low chance to hit him.
-
On my spreadsheet, with both chains using procs, I'm getting 178.3 DPS for Scorch - Incin - Scorch - Crem and 177.6 DPS for GFS - Incin - Crem - FS. That was on a scrapper, and at the time of my previous post I didn't remember brutes get higher damage on GFS, so the second chain probably ends a few DPS points above, here. Oops.
Nonetheless, I remember on my fire/stone brute it was a straightforward choice to go for incin - scorch - crem - scorch as it allowed me 5 more slots to play with and made for much easier end management, but on yours the benefit isn't so high. I guess it boils down to Aid Self vs Hasten, do you want more survivability or more damage (and let's be fair, you already have plenty with the softcap + invul resistances + DP + eventually Unstop).
As for the Alpha, I'd go either Spiritual or Cardiac and not look back. Seeing as Brutes have Fury, they get proportionally less out of Musculature. If I were playing your build and assuming I liked the character enough, I'd probably go with both Spiritual and Cardiac ; using Spiritual on teams or normal playing as to have more recharge, regen, HP (through DP), eventually hit perma Hasten, and Cardiac for tough challenges or extremely long AV fights. -
Looks sturdy, although I'm not sure your end is sustainable if you want to, say, solo an AV. Then again you could just use the cardiac alpha and you should be fine, even with just the common one.
It doesn't seem to have 95% tohit chance against +4s, but if you plan to get the rare alpha that should be irrelevant (it seems capped against +3s).
Overall the build looks good enough that most changes will probably be a matter of taste, with tradeoffs for benefits.
Here what I'd personally do :
- plan for the Incin - Scorch - Cremate - Scorch chain, which does slightly (very slightly, almost irrelevant) more damage than GFS - Incin - Crem - FS with the purple proc in Scorch, costs slightly more (+11%) recharge (but it's still not a big deal to attain, you already have more than that in your build), but is much more end friendly, available as soon as level 8 for exemplaring, and frees up one power and one slot (assuming you're going to still use the 3 others for a kin combat set in Brawl).
- remove Hasten, pick up Stim/Aid Self (thanks to the extra power freed from the attack chain).
- remove slots from Stamina, put them in Health for more regen and CJ as to hit the softcap ; use the Cardiac Alpha to make up for the end loss.

There's no such thing as softcap with resistance, you're either hardcapped or you aren't - well, some could argue you could get a buffer against eventual res debuffs, but these debuffs are so few and far between I think it'd be too much of a niche use to be worth building. More to the point, it just makes it easier to cap, you can't go beyond 90% res.

Too metagamey... That has to be the most hypocritical thing that I've read on the badge forums, and I've read a lot. Just take a look around and all you see is people discussing how to abuse temp powers for Midnight Dodger, how to farm PVP defeats for PVP badges, how to AFK farm damage/heal badges, and so on. For deity's sake, the first step the average person who calls himself a badge hunter takes is to visit a third party website and download third party programs or look up lists that tell him where and how to get the badges. The whole system has been perverted into metagaming by people who care more about bragging over having a high number on a web list or in their sig (or possibly both) than the actual accomplishments.
Be honest for a second and admit you're against exclusively solo badges because you're worried you personally might not be able to get it. The "metagamey" excuse is bollocks.
(Personally, I don't care either way about solo badges, my BS-o meter just got off reading this thread and I had to reply.) -
I hope they don't introduce enemies over level 54. I much prefer creative difficulty like in AE (custom mobs designed to be hard) or Apex than plain number power increase bringing us back to square one.
-
I don't think there is a point in ditching specific good powers because they don't have a use, as we get so many power picks right now. SB really doesn't need more than one slot - stick an endmod in it and call it a day. FS doesn't need much more than 1 (2 if you don't have much accuracy from sets) acc and 2 recharge. Adding additional slots to these powers would give you (your teammates, same thing) minimal returns.
I recently went the other way on my fortunata after reading LuxunS' post about it - that is to say, I had a melee build and a ranged build, and with inherent fitness I can now fit all these attacks in one same build. I find having powers for different situations on the same build allows you to be much more versatile, and more powerful as a result. -
If nothing else, I'm guessing you posting this in public might have inclined them to publish a fix even faster... As soon as you can mapserve a map (rollback characters) with a specific power, you can do another very nasty thing.
-
The common way for a mind to solo the RSF is to perma-confuse an AV to kill all others and just kill the remaining one (which is what the OP seemingly did, judging by his chat log). That leaves you with one +2 (with the level shift) AV to defeat, which is cake for a mind dom.
-
Bidcreeping on most common/uncommon salvage is kind of dumb.
-
At level 35, in my opinion Claws/Fire is far above SS/Fire. Lacking epics, purples and alpha slot hurt SS a lot more than it does Claws, it's basically just Foot Stomp, Burn and all ST attacks, whereas Claws can AOE all day already.
-
It's seemingly not yet. I tried /gmotd and the old I19 message popped up.
-
So, can we get that new weekly TF yet? Kind of a tease to be ingame and see the rare and very rare alphas and not being able to get them.

Quote:Autohit in melee, like an aura or something, high tohit with their ranged attack.
I don't think there are any pets, but what about the tentacles? Are those auto-hit or just really high to-hit?
I still think there's a focus on the wrong things here. Surviving BM or the tentacles hasn't been a problem for me even when "solo" (i.e. team behind/wiped and I'm the only one in the place without any ally buffs), while at the normal softcap (Fire/Shield) or even under (DB/Inv). The only times I die in Apex is when I activate Vengeful Slice in the middle of a blue patch while getting heavy graphic lag resulting in single digit framerates, and no amount of defense improves your FPS or protects against autohit damage.
Doing enough DPS to take out a level 54 AV that forces you to move away from melee is a much, much bigger challenge. -
It lasts 20s. It doesn't last any longer for fire than for any other damage nowadays, but you really want to get it - it adds 45% base damage to your attacks.
I.e., if you're doing 200 damage with FSC while under BU, you'd do about 300 damage with Fiery Embrace at the same time. -
Quote:Why walk when you can run? I don't quite get inefficiency for the sake of inefficiency, especially in an activity where the prime motivation is supposed to be "maximum rewards, minimum time" in the first place.
May not be the best, but again variety is the spice of life, why limit yourself to being good on one type of +4 farm?
I do play plenty of suboptimal alts myself and enjoy them just as much if not more than the FOTMs, but when someone asks for best there's no point in answering with what you personally like most. -
Quote:Let me check who said he'd show us how it's done in the first place... Oh right, that's you.
Make your video.... then we will see who is a talker and who is not.
I've made plenty of videos, a few of which to prove points, but not often, because if I did that I wouldn't have any time left to play. Usually, big mouths like you run away after they're proved wrong. I don't want you to stop posting, you're entertaining me ; ergo, I'm not going to post a vid in here just now. -
Quote:To do that you'd have to kill a level 54 AV, along with unresistable autohit damage patches dealing about 600 damage per second each (I think? I'm always more worried about not getting in than getting a close look at the numbers, but the final patches feel like one tick of ~240 and one tick of 80 every half second or so), and I assume those patches would be centered on you every single time if you'd be alone, stacking multiple times and not letting you into melee for more than a few seconds before you'd have to move away.
Alright I know this sounds crazy but I am making a build to solo the Apex TF without inspirations.
Frankly, the Apex softcap should be the least of your concerns here. I don't see any melee AT soloing that TF, with or without insps, until we get a wee bit more powerful with the Incarnate system.
(Might be already possible with the usual ranged suspects, but even then... You have to find 7 level 50 willing to help you start it, including one who's going to keep the character on team. Not an easy task by any means.) -
Quote:Indeed. It takes a special kind of... well, special, to start a topic that is essentially "nerf this because it annoys me personally" and then complain about everyone else being narrowminded.
Honestly, all this rhetoric about nerfing stuff because it annoys one personally is narrow minded, not to mention tiresome.
Not to mention there's no cost in having the choice right now. Everyone has access to the powers. Nerfing Hurdle to Swift level would just mean people would be slower. Buffing Swift to Hurdle level would mean people would go at the same speed as before.
