  1. Alternative stances would be great. I love the fact the different WoW races stand and run differently.

But... WoW's character animation is, in every other respect, far less complex than CoH's. I imagine ensuring that every single power animation worked properly with alternative stances would give BaBs rather a lot of work.

On the other hand... now that power customisation is almost here we might as well give him something to do. right

The Praetorians wouldn't be limited to just attacking in PI, they would show up where the city is least prepared to push them back, like Dark Astoria, or Boomtown. It's possible in both places for them to establish a foothold and not announce their presence until they are ready to.
Peregrine Island has always struck me as one of the most insecure zones in Paragon City - possibly it's the Behemoths wandering around the Portal Corp parking lot, or the Rikti on the beach that give this impression. Or possibly it's because I started with Villains and the first time I saw Portal Corp was when I raided it during a patron arc mission.

Besides, Tyrant... ahem, Emperor Cole... doesn't strike me as the sort to skulk in the rubble building up a presence. He's not Reichsman. He's already got his army and his empire.

When I15 was released people were unhappy that Reichsman's return had no impact at all on the wider world, which is why it's so good to see the 5th on the streets in I16. If the Praetorians did reduce Portal Corp to a smouldering crater and turn PI into a war zone then we'd know they mean business.

Indeed. I'd like to see WoW as it is, before Cataclysm, but I find it very hard to keep an interest in that game for more than 2 to 3 weeks at a time, whereas City usually lasts about 3 months before ennui sets in and I wander back to Azeroth or to other games.

If development on City stopped today I'd still play, in the same way I replay console games - because they're fun. It wouldn't be the same, but it'd be something. Besides, I still have a ton of powerset combinations and character concepts to try out before I could consider I'd 'finished' the game.

Not that this will happen any time soon, and as a relative newcomer to MMOs I've got to say it is nice to have new issues to look forward to. Long may it continue.
  4. I solo'd Faultline with my AR/Dev on diff 3 - the EBs ranged from not too bad to downright frustrating, and while I completed it eventually I wouldn't set my sights that high if I ran Faultline again on another character... maybe.

I usually go to diff 2 by the early teens and diff 4 by the mid to late 20s. Admittedly that's on exceptional soloists like masterminds, scrappers and brutes. I'd imagine the post-40 game on heroic - when even unyielding/ruthless only gives about 1 bar of xp per mission - could feel very slow.
  5. I'd like to see the story advance, with the existing Praetorian missions relegated to Orobouros, and Peregrine Island reworked. After all, in one of her debriefings Maria Jenkins does say...

    Quote:
Make no mistake about it, if the Praetorians ever manage to mount an invasion, Peregrine Island will be ground zero.
My suggestion would be to relocate the non-Praetorian Portal Corp missions to a secondary base, and turn Portal Corp and the surrounding area into a proper war zone, with hazard size spawns of Praetorians trying to take control of it.

It doesn't really make sense for the (we hope) new, innovative mission content of Going Rogue to be preceeded in the narrative by the old and frankly rather dull kill all fests of The Praetorian War and A Hero's Hero.

    What if?

There's a level 20-something undead warrior sitting in the Barrens waiting for me to get bored with City...
  9. Weaken (and some purple insps for the Bruiser) will wreck his accuracy, and what he can't hit he can't heal from. Envenom will floor his regen.

I'd alternate Weaken and Envenom, and use Alkaloid to keep the bruiser alive as long as possible. After all while he's trying to kill him he's leaving you and the other pets alone. Bring blues if you don't have stamina (or even if you do) chaining those 3 powers will tire you out fast.

I had less trouble with Nosferatu on my thugs/poison (admittedly at 50 exemped to 39, and Noxious Gas makes a great opener for any EB fight) than I did with either my 39 brute or my exemped from 50 scrapper - but then he is notoriously deadly against melee characters.
  10. I like them all. Mender Tesseract is probably the easiest, and has a brilliantly atmospheric second mission. Mender Silos is a good choice if you're looking for a challenge - the final mission is VERY difficult.

As good as they are though, I'd go with Mender Lazarus's Fall of the Fifth Column, because the final room is epic. Just epic.
  11. Before the euro population rush the thread to declare that their servers aren't dead, I'll just say why not get a NA account? Yes, you'd lose the benefit of your veteran rewards, but just think... eleven extra servers just waiting to be filled up with lots and lots of new alts

I'm in the UK, but I've been playing on the NA servers since I started a year ago. It's fine, so long as you can handle the occassional 1 a.m. ITF

    I didn't know that.

This is the same problem that afflicts the 10-15 contacts in Cap Au Diable. Sure you can go to PO at level 5 and start working on your papers, or Cap at level 10... but unless you're a stalker just getting to the mission doors can be very difficult when most of the street spawns are at least 2 levels above you, and if you delay for a couple of levels you're on the verge of outlevelling them. Took me 3 attempts (and finally switching off XP) to finally get Themari's second arc.

Likewise, doesn't Marshall Brass introduce you to someone? I'm usually nudging 20 by the time I finish his first arc, let alone his second.

It would be nice if the level ranges for the PO and Cap contacts were expanded a bit.

True, but I wouldn't call those EBs any tougher. I've not curb-stomped the EBs in Port Oakes as easily as those in Faultline. Some of those EBs in Port Oakes are a bit unfair, like walking into a casino map and finding Emil Marcone right at the door.
Yes, that one can be a bit rough. I was lucky last night in that he was around a corner so I could warm up on some minions and get some room to maneuver before taking him on.

The EBs that can still mess you up if you do that don't really hit until the mid-20s. That said, yeah, having EBs start at like level 5 seems a bit excessive to me. Bosses are still a challenge to a lot of characters at that point.
You'd really have to go some to run into those EBs at level 5. In fact the latest round of xp smoothing coming in I16 will make Lieutenant Blechley and the others a lot easier to handle, simply because those arcs cap at level 10 and between the XP smoothing and patrol XP it's becoming really really easy to outlevel them.

I ran Billie Heck's arc today, on a character who had up to that point done Kalinda's arcs, the Mercy bank and 3 papers and a mayhem. By the time I was facing Guido and Emil I was already level 11, and they only go up to level 10. Similarly on Test with a new character I hit level 11 before getting to Blechley. They're not nearly as scary when they're yellow, and all 3, with the possible exception of Blechley, are pushovers compared to Frostfire.

Now Faultline on the other hand, while in a slightly higher level range, does indulge a bit in EB overkill.
  14. I've seen quite a few 'lowbie for AE farm will pay' broadcasts already, especially since the AE farmers seem to be getting a lot more picky about who they'll take on their teams (over 35, /Kin only, Dom or Brute only etc etc etc...)

On the day I16 goes live I'll be very tempted to roll a new lvl 1 hero on Freedom or Virtue and just street sweep in Atlas Park while enjoying the drama in Broadcast when the PLers realise they'll have to either pay up or do (gasp!) real missions
  15. The first time I encountered them was with Nightshade (Thugs/Poison Mastermind) It was a team, and someone else's mission, so I had no idea who they were but they died pretty easily.

I've yet to fight them with a melee character though. That should be interesting, since after fighting Rularuu with Nightshade I thought they were easy, and then I took my /SR scrapper into the Shadow Shard and couldn't believe the combat results I was seeing (Watcher HITS you! Chomp had 88% chance to hit... huh, what? I had Elude on!) Same deal with Nosferatu, who I genuinely thought was overrated until I ran the Mender Lazarus SF with my Brute...

A Vanguard agent who gave out Dirty Dozen style missions for villains ("This Restructurist general is too influential and is hindering our negotiations with the moderates. Kill him.") would be a nice touch, and given that Vanguard are ready to work with villains in the first place it would be perfectly in character for them to do so.

I don't really RP often, but I've always imagined my villains would find it amusing that they spend so much time rescuing heroes (hello, Faultline, Fusionette) and wouldn't be at all surprised to be asked to bail out some Longbow who got out of their depth. I mean... it's Longbow, who can't even stop you robbing a bank.
  17. Great read.

Whenever I hit a new zone for the first time I was always aware that it would never be as new for me again as it would be for the next few hours, and I'd make a point of taking the long way. The random door placements of radio/newspaper missions would often lead me into areas way above my level, but it was always fun trying to get there, and seeing the sights along the way.

I've got a lot of fun memories of those occassions. Getting through Aeon City at level 13 took hours (I was new, and barely understood the con system, so the significance of most of the enemies being red and purple was lost on me...); all four story arcs of the Hollows, start to finish, without so much as a raptor pack; going to Nerva at level 26 and getting a door mission in Thorn Isle (I got as far as Agincourt before I gave up on that one...)

I think my favourite was my first time in Faultline, with a level 15 scrapper (fresh from the Hollows) I didn't know then that you don't need to be introduced to Jim Temblor, and the third radio mission I picked up was in the Arachnos base in the dam. I still have no idea how I managed to get in and out of there alive.
  18. One of the things I like about Cimerora is that when you talk to Imperious as a villain he actually acknowledges that you're not likely to have many scruples about getting blood on your hands.
    Quote:
Before you go, know this: valor and justice are traits I hold above all others. However... I am a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to reach my ends. This is something others from your time seem squeamish towards. Something tells me you will not have that problem. Come then, let us paint the stones with the blood of our enemies!
The RWZ dialogue on the other hand, borders on farcical on a couple of occassions. Such as Levantera in the mission "Stop the Rikti Bombing."

    Quote:
I know the Rogue Isles doesn't seem like a place worth saving, but it is, if only for the fact that the Rikti want to attack it.
Hey, you're talking about my home town!

    Quote:
The Vanguard's mission is to stop the Rikti anywhere, any time. So, if you thought you signed up for something else, I'm sorry. You should have joined Longbow instead.
Well, yeah... I think they'd have a problem with my application, seeing as I've been fighting them on a daily basis since Mercy.

Then there's Gaussian's mission where you have to fight Longbow.

    Quote:
Is this what it's come to? Hero fighting hero?
It would at the very least be more amusing if the Longbow reaction was more along the lines of "Oh we should have known YOU couldn't be trusted."

So can we get some dialogue for villains running RWZ arcs that actually acknowledges that we're not heroes?

This post was inspired by fighting Sefu Tendaji in the Gaussian mission. Like it's not bad enough that he's bloody annoying since he runs away all the time, I have to put up with him constantly whining about how upset he is at having to fight me...

Roll a Bots/FF. It's the next best thing to not being there.
  20. I play on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, and when my second account is active I can log into them both simultaneously. That's with the graphics settings turned way down admittedly, and I only use it to invite my alts to my personal SGs, but I daresay a more powerful machine could run two accounts at a decent performance.

It's a pity you can't mix and match MM weapons and pets. I just had an idea for a Lara Croft clone with the pistol attacks and zombie minions. Could call her Tomb Leader...
  22. 1. Appearance, both in costume and powers.
There are a couple of powers I refuse to take solely due to disliking the accompanying animation - I respec'd my claws/ scrapper just to drop Eviscerate, and my MA/ stalker stopped dead at level 6 after I saw the Assassin's Blow animation.

She'll be back in business once I16 goes live though. I love the alternative animation

    2. Soloing Capability.
I solo a lot. Even when teaming I feel like a freeloader if I'm not on a character that can solo. One day I'll set up the solo-friendly dual build for the Fire/Thermal corruptor who's been in limbo for the last 6 months. I do try all of the ATs, but MMs, Scrappers and Brutes make up the majority at the moment, since I've found them to be the best soloists.

    3. Fun vs Power.
I'd sooner have some decent action with the risk of dying if I get careless than sleepwalk through missions where I wreck everything at little risk to myself. The barely controlled chaos of my Thugs/Poison MM (I actually miss the KB from the Bruiser's handclap) is much more fun than the unkillable monotony of my Bots/FF. Likewise my Claws/SR Scrapper became so effective she frequently bored me in the second half of the game, because there was basically zero chance of anything killing her except if I got really careless or feel asleep at the keyboard, whereas the frenetic fury fuelled rampages of my SS/Inv Brute are always entertaining.
  23. Brutes are disconcertingly squishy at low levels, and it does get frustrating since by the time you've built up some decent fury you're almost dead. I put as many slots, if not more, into my secondary as my primary early on with my SS/Inv.

In a real villain team it should be a race to see who can hit the next spawn first. This cowering behind the 'tank' business is for heroes
  24. My second Hamidon Raid. Thanks to the organisers for making my introduction to Hami such a painless experience.

I still haven't slotted the Hami-O I got from the first raid some weeks ago. I'm tempted just to keep them in my base's enhancement table (well, when I get one) as trophies
  25. I've got several concepts for dual pistols characters lined up for GR (even got the names saved in a couple of cases) but I'm also very tempted to reroll my main on a new server as a Dual Pistols/ ... I'm just wondering what secondary to go with, since /Poison is MM only. Probably /Kin or /Dark.

So when Going Rogue hits will you be tempted to remake your Thugs MM as a Dual Pistols Corruptor?
