  1. I imagine a lot of players have already rolled an evil version of at least one of their heroes, or a good version of one of their villains, and when GR is released I expect Praetoria to be full of alternate versions of people's main characters*, so a doppleganger system would possibly be a bit redundant for those characters.

I'm thinking of doing a 'good' version of Nightshade, but since Nightshade is a corrupt ex-cop her good version would probably be an honest cop, and since the police in Praetoria are loyalists and therefore (in theory) villains now I'm wondering would she actually be 'good' ?
  2. It would be nice if some AE missions (not all, but at least say the Devs Choice or Dr. Aeon's contest winners) could be accessible through the open world contacts, with the individual missions assigned to actual doors in the world. Perhaps by adding an extra option so you'd have...

    Ask about available missions
    Ask about the store
    Ask about this contact
    Ask about AE missions

At least those that have been written for existing contacts, obviously.

I very very rarely play AE missions. I'll admit that's partly due to the horrible reputation its gathered for being a PLer's/Farmer's paradise, but partly because the missions themselves don't feel real. Just having to travel to the apropriate area would help counter that, and make them feel more like part of my character's story and less like I'm just mucking about in a holodeck.

The only reason he's in the 40+ bracket is that his homeless shelter is stationed in the slums of Grandville.
I honestly consider Phipps to be by far the most evil contact in the game. The actual things he does can be considered petty, but the idea behind it - that he goes out of his way to destroy any pathetic hope that exists in the hearts of the weakest that the world can be a better place, and that there are people in authority who approve of him doing so - is absolutely blood chilling, and far more frightening than any random megalomaniac out to conquer the world with his robot legions or whatever (yes, Lord Nemesis, I'm looking at you...)

He's not a nutter like Dr. Creed or doing it for the evulz like Peter Themari. He kicks puppies because the people in power have decided that puppies need to be kicked as a matter of policy.
  4. Personally I'll be going with the Prepurchase, mainly because I'd rather not wait another 4 or 5 months to roll my Dual Pistols characters on the live servers (I've been sitting on some of those names since last May...)

The complete edition will go on my secondary account at a later date, probably.
  5. I have no idea how side-switching will work. Perhaps it will be a gradual process influenced by your choice of missions. Perhaps it will revolve around specific missions, like the respec trials. We'll know soon enough.

In the meantime, which current contacts on red and blue side do you think would be the most suited to giving out side-switching missions?

In Paragon City I'd say Indigo and Crimson. They're the most ruthless good guys I can think of, and I can easily envisage Crimson giving a doubting hero the final push over to the other side if it suited his plans, or a hero becoming disillusioned while working with Crimson.

In the Isles, well it's got to be Westin Phipps. If there's one arc in the entire game that feels like it was written with the option to switch sides in mind it's Miss Francine the Freakshow Teacher.

(and I'd like to thank the devs for introducing DP/ before I gave into temptation and made a petless MM.)

I'm sure he will be, according to your extremely black and white viewpoint, but I do hope there's at least a little ambiguity and that the Resistance aren't entirely heroic. There's already a few contacts in Paragon City who ask the player to do things that could be considered evil - Indigo and Crimson for example, who remove a dangerous Malta agent by setting him up to be killed by his own side.

we're probably pretty villainous to Recluse and his lackies too
Actually if you'd ever been to Grandville you'd have heard Recluse's speech in which he describes his creed as "The way of villainy." Recluse has no illusions about what he is.

Mr. Bocor in Port Oakes has an interesting take on it.

"We have no need for illusions or euphemisms between us. There are those who fight consistently for the side of right, and they are heroes. And then there are those like us, who know how to turn the powers of the world to our advantage without care for the cost to others, and we are called villains. Personally, I would rather be the latter any day."
  9. 'Tyrant' was first used in ancient Greece, and simply meant 'ruler.' It didn't pick up its negative connotations until later.

As to whether or not the Loyalists can be considered 'good', I'd say the extent of the threat posed by the Devouring Earth would have to be considered. How squeamish can you really afford to be about Emperor Cole's rule if the alternative is the slaughter of every man, woman and child on the planet by the DE?

Cole, in all of his incarnations except Statesman, seems to believe that 'the ends justify the means', as in this quote from Imperious when he introduces himself to villains.

"Before you go, know this: valor and justice are traits I hold above all others. However... I am a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to reach my ends. This is something others from your time seem squeamish towards. Something tells me you will not have that problem. Come then, let us paint the stones with the blood of our enemies!"

Imperious has a usurper to deal with, a usurper allied to time travelling, high tech alien nazis. Emperor Cole has the DE covering most of the planet. By comparison Statesman only has his old pal Stefan and his goon squad sitting off the coast. There's less at stake for him. He can afford the luxury of being 'good.'
  10. For Nightshade, it's Gang War. Providing the enemy with an additional ten targets usually buys me enough time to resummon my pets. It's not infallible, mind you. I threw them at a Bane Spider Executioner in Grandville once and he immediately one-shotted the lot of them with a PBAoE. Ouch.

The funny thing is the Sea Witch is fun (for me at least) because she is so difficult.

She's a nightmare opponent, who has dealt out a succession of humiliating and frustrating defeats to my villains, but for that reason I approach that mission with each new villain who runs that arc with an anticipation and excitement matched by few other moments in the game.

Because sooner or later one of my villains will beat her on the first attempt, and that revenge will be sweet.

Yes. I forget his name, but he's in Mercy, near the Fortunata and Dr. Creed.
  13. Snakes are disconcertingly tough if you fight them later on. I remember going back to run the cape mission on a lvl 20 SS/Inv and being unpleasantly surprised at the damage they did to me. All that toxic really hurts.

I'd also add Longbow Ballista. In fact Elite Bosses in general, which are far more prevalent on Redside than Blueside, and a few of them (I'm looking at you, Sea Witch) are hellish to fight when you're in the mid 20s.
  14. 1. A new villain zone (preferably 15-25 so you don't have to do Cap and Sharkhead every single time.)

    2. Polish up the old Blueside content.

    3. Revamps of Boomtown, Crey's Folly and especially the Shadow Shard.

    Open Archtypes

Redraw is already something virtually every weapon set has to deal with, so I don't see that as a dealbreaker.

    /signed.

I want a Necro/ Mastermind with pistol attacks.
  17. I'm not averse to using the raptor pack to get to missions quickly (particularly if I'm teamed and don't want to try my teammates' patience by taking the scenic route) but other than that I'm not too fond of it - it's too big, especially indoors where the camera is often closer to your character than my default positioning, and it seldom goes with my character concepts.

Anyway... now that Kheldians will soon be available to anyone with a level 20 or above character I'll use that as a topical excuse to declare that it's even more important to give Warshades the option to take hover!

Disclaimer: This suggestion is not aimed at obtaining any kind of min/max, pve or pvp build advantage. It is purely because it would look cool and be fun.

The only problem with that is that Slot Machine is a 30-35 contact, and most of the bosses in the Flop are 35+, making it somewhat challenging to get the badge whilst you're still in the right level range.

I love Redside. I had a villain at 50 before I had a hero at 20, and while some of the Blueside stuff (The Hollows, Faultline, the newest Midnighter missions) is excellent, I can't say the same about a lot of the older content. The contacts in particular are so bland I can't tell them apart, something I'd never say about the parade of mad scientists, mercenaries, racketeers and mind controlling electrical appliances we get treated to in the Isles.
  19. I17: Is That All?

...because expectations have been raised too high for it to be anything other than a disapointment, especially if it takes another month or two to deliver.
  20. Solo I used to rely on Alkaloid a lot to keep the pets alive. Then some kind forumites explained Bodyguard Mode to me*, I picked up Provoke, and suddenly the pets weren't dying as much, and neither was I. Nowadays I don't use it nearly as much, mainly because the enemies are either so Weakened they're not doing serious damage, or so Envenomed they're... well, dead.

But, it can be a useful extra heal in a bad situation, and if I'm teamed and I see one of my teammates' health bars going into the red I'll use it. I'd certainly use it in preference to the one pistol attack I kept, which I only use for laughs.

*my first thread in this forum was titled something like "Is Bodyguard Mode Overated?" Yes, I cringe to think of it now...
  21. I usually only pay a month at a time, and both of my accounts(s) are due to expire tonight. I'd planned on letting them go dormant for a week or two while I spend some time on other games.

But... my DM/WP Brute has Lt. Blechley lined up for her next mission, and I really want to see how she handles him...

And my Warshade is about to step into Oranbega for the first time...

And I had this idea for a new MM while I was reading the newspaper at lunchtime...

    And...well, etc...
  22. I teamed with a fellow Thugs/Poison once (level 45+) and Alkaloid was the only power he had from his secondary... and he didn't use it. He did, on the other hand, have all 3 of the pistol attacks, the two attacks from the fighting pool and the entire medicine pool. I seldom give a damn about my team mates playstyles unless they're causing repeated team wipes, but seeing him taking useless pot shots at the +2 Paragon Protector Elites we were fighting was maddening...

Teamed with another, this time a Mercs/Poison (level 25 or so) who asked me what Weaken and Envenom were. I did my best to explain, but nonetheless in the next fight he spent all his time taking shots at the enemies with his rifle as usual.

What is it about /poison that makes it such a badly played set?

Not slotting TOs I can understand (if not agree with, I still slot them from 7 onward), but if you're not slotting DOs either then it's no wonder you're suffering from lack of End and Acc. Sure they're not as good as IOs, but they make a difference.

I have a second account and it comes in fairly useful. It means I can assemble my solo SGs without pestering anyone else to do the inviting, and since I play across every server it's effectively 100+ extra slots.

I don't think I'd be inclined to anyway, but since I only have 1 pc I can't dual box. Switching every setting to minimum so I can open CoH twice on the one machine long enough to send some SG invites is as far as I go, and that only rarely.
  25. Nope. The Flight pool cannot be selected by Warshades (or Peacebringers)

This is my first Kheldian, so that came as a surprise to me. I ended up checking it on the Wiki in case it was some inexplicable glitch, but no.
