The next big thing

Since CoH got a larger development team, we've gotten (or will soon be getting) some awesome new goodies which we've wanted for years, but have been told would be too much work for the return it would generate. Namely, power customization and side switching.

So my question is, what do you want next? What other big awesome projects have you always wanted but didn't think would happen before and now you might have some hope.

Personally, I'm hoping they'll finally decide to animate a quadrupedal skeleton. I know this has certainly been requested many, many times, but maybe now it'll finally happen.

1. A new villain zone (preferably 15-25 so you don't have to do Cap and Sharkhead every single time.)

2. Polish up the old Blueside content.

3. Revamps of Boomtown, Crey's Folly and especially the Shadow Shard.

This so hard.

The Shadow Shard zones are, and have since their initial release, been some of the most interesting and original zones in the entire game. They've got a great epic storyline, about as much lore as the rest of the game put together, one of the most interesting villain groups anywhere and... pretty much nothing else? It's just been sitting there for the last 14 Issues without any additional content. It's got 4 of the largest, most visually interesting zones in the game, but they're completely empty except for the TFs. What's worse is that there are people that have absolutely no idea that these zones exist because they're hidden behind a single zone portal in PI with no other mention.

The Shadow Shard needs some serious lovin' bad.

I'd rather not guess. I'd rather be surprised (pleasantly, of course) by whatever Paragon is cooking up for us after GR.

I'd actually echo that.

Also, I'd like alternate animations for everything, pools and all. That sort of multiplies the work of both desires though. More alternate animations for more quadruped models, etc.

Those two and polearm weapon sets. And not just a 'polearm' set with different weapon customizations. I think a spear set is quite a bit different from a poleaxe which is also different from a scythe which are all completely different from a staff.

1. A nemeisis/cournterpart to fight

2. Put contacts in these zones,
Dark Astoria
Boomtown
Perez Park
Terra Volta
Crey's Folly
Eden

Like what was done with Faultline

3. many, many, many, many more outfits and powersets

4. Power customizations for pool, mastery, and epic powers : D

I agree with Nightshade on everything, but have to bring this up.

When brought up at Herocon, the Shard was mentioned as a *LOT* of work - which, it is. Four huge zones to add stuff in - and a reason they don't "like" revamping old (as opposed to giving us new) content.

That said - I think that dev statement is greatly unfair. It's like complaining about the gas mileage of American cars by pointing at one of those jet-powered funnycars that burns, what, 20-30 gallons a second or something. Yes, it's an extreme example of the work that would be needed. And I don't think it'd be argued that it WOULD be a lot of work - but using it as a reason NOT to? Poor.

If the Shard were revamped, I'd expect it to be a (long delay) issue of its own, with corresponding events and contacts in both Paragon and the Isles. (Whether it would touch Praetoria... I don't know. I think it'd be a bit odd to.)

Of all the old hazard zones, I'd like to see (in order)
- Perez. Just chop down the damn forest. Really. War Witch, dear, you mentioned relocating mission entrances, so why do my level 10s get sent deep into the maze, while my 40-50s get missions around the edge?

- Dark Astoria. SO. MUCH. STORY that could be done in here! So much potential! A three way supernatural war, for all intents and purposes (or two way with the Tsoo stuck in the middle - see "Tsoo Faced" in AE. It's old, but there.) I've wanted to see this redone for so long, really building on the atmosphere and exploring its history!

- Crey's... I'm "eh" about. Mostly because it just needs "something there," but it - to me - has never been all that inspiring of a zone. OTOH... Praetorian/Primal DE meetup in this toxic wasteland...

- Boomtown. One, I want the "Destined for valHalla" left alone but other than that, I'd love to see a multi-issue progression done here, reclaiming the zone, showing some progress. Threw a proposal about that up over a year ago, still wouldn't mind seeing it.

We're also missing over half of Rularuu's naughty bits. I wanna fight Chularn the Slave lord and Uuralur the Mirror. I want to explore the Factory Cubes and the Garden of Memories!

I never looked that closely.

And I don't think I want to.

An additional AT for each side, not an EAT. I really really want a Melee and Buff/Debuff AT, and I think it would be a a great addition. The Hero version could be Melee/Buff&Debuff to give them a slightly more Corruptorish style of play, when Villain can go Buff&Debuff/Melee for their Defender style.

Best names I've seen for them would be Commander for Heroes and Oppressor for Villains, with an inherant which offers some sort of survivability (resistance, defense, regeneration or a combination thereof) per enemy in melee, like Rise to the Challenge, or Invincibility. Give them damage numbers between Tanker and Scrapper and Buff/Debuff on par with Controllers, plus when teamed with a HEAT let them give a small regeneration or +hp bonus.

I think it would make a fun addition to the current gang of Archtypes, plus it's a small hole that needs filling (other than pets/damage set.. Maybe have that as the Hero one, Melee/Pets?) plus no new ATs have been added which don't need to be unlocked.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc

If we're talking big things, one thing I've always wanted to see is a revamp/upgrade of the character models. Things like hands with individual fingers. More detailed heads with more options (so we can choose individual eyes, nose, mouth, etc., rather than having them just be one big texture with everything included)... and maybe even having stuff like facial animations! I know I have one friends that's been begging for that one for a while.

Backpacks, more asymmetrical costume parts, and other cool things could be worked in too.

Of course the big problem with that is that it might also require an overhaul of the animation system and, in the absolute worst case scenario might require redoing/editing all the existing animations. So it's not something that could be done as a simple add-on.

But hey, we're talking about the next BIG thing, right? So with that in mind, I'd really like to see upgrades to the character creator in that fashion.

It is my opinion that simply due to the LACK of current content in the shard any revamping of the Shadow Shard would in fact BE new content.

It's not as if there are really any pre-existing Contacts, zone events or story arcs they would have to give the once over (aside from the TFs, and frankly almost ALL blueside TFs need this).

Other than the setting (which could also use a bit of work, if just to make it easier to get around) anything done with the Shard would be new content. It would simply be based off of older content/enemy groups.

Much like Going Rogue is new content, but based off the old Praetorian groups.

How the Aniverssary tf was based off the old 5th Column.

etc. etc.
