Quote:True, but this reboot completely negates Blackest Night and Brightest Day.I think they underestimated how bad Final Crisis would be. They put too much faith in Morrison to tackle a large scale event with large scale ramifications.
If any company needs a reboot, I mean REALLY needs one, it's Marvel! -
"We are done with Universe altering events after Final Crisis"
I think I'm done with DC. I'm so sick of them rebooting after every few years like I got sick of "crisis this" and "zero hour that"
ALSO: Renumbering Action Comics and Detective Comics should be against the law. -
Quote:I know that blue stars give Superman the ability to give his powers to others, AKA: Superman vision.
We have no idea what his powers are under Blue, Green, Orange, White, Purple, and Indigo...or any of the non-visible light spectrum of electro-magnetic radiation.
There was an issue or episode of an older series involving DC heroes. The heroes had been split into teams of two. Superman's team found themselves near a red sun, and their ship lost power. Being near the red sun made Superman powerless, and everyone was headed for a fiery death.
The ship still had time travel capability, so the heroes used it to revert the red sun back to a much younger blue age. Suddenly, everyone found themselves with Superman's powers, while Superman himself had to try very hard to not move. This was pre-crisis Superman, who was already grossly overpowered......now imagine a blue star overpowering him even more. Even DBZ characters at their strongest would pale in comparison. -
Quote:Yeah, I stated something similar in a past thread, that with the right combination of D&D character classes, you could become more powerful than most modern superheroes.Um. It's been over a decade since I really looked at the source-book, but Rift's Cosmo-Knight perhaps? Since you said any universe anyway.
If I recall correctly they have FTL space-flight, they regenerate, their armor regenerates, they have absurdly powerful energy blasts, they don't take any damage from a list of damage types unless it's magic in nature and the things not on that list they only take something like 1% of the damage from. Oh, and on top of that I seem to recall that they had a somewhat absurdly powerful personal force field.
They've always been my personal definition of 'overpowered class'. Oh, they did fucntion like paladins I think. So if you were bad you lost a lot of your power.
I'll leave this about just a suit of armor this time. -
Asking this after watching an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, where Batman wears a suit of armor to fight Superman. Of course Superman crunched the armor like a tin can, and fanboys ranted, saying that even in power armor Batman cannot stand up to Superman.
So.....assuming we can use any materials from any universe to craft it, what would I use to mimic or counter his powers?
I assume one of the first answers would be to have the armor crafted out of either adamantium or vibranium. I thought about saying "the same alloy that Captain America's shield is", but no one knows exactly, since the scientist who created the shield fell asleep, and an unknown catalyst entered the compound. No one has been able to completely replicate the shield either.
I thought about various weapons and gadgets as well, as Superman once stated that he got tired of getting the crap kicked out of him by Batman's utility belt. There are many things in Batman's belt that mimic some super powers. I can't find the list anywhere anymore.....
Okay, let's construct this armor, eh?
EDIT: Yes, fictionally adamantium is insanely expensive, but let's assume that we have enough money to spend on enough adamantium for a full suit of armor. Also, let's refrain from magic and kryptonite. It'd make things too easy. -
Quote:Quite possible if you use the PC versions of RPG Maker, especially 2003 or XP.I've decided my hand at trying to actually make a game even though most of my ideas are way to big for me to do so I've had to try to come up with something that allows me to actually not care enough to try to get it to work...
I know that sounds weird, but whatever...
Basically the idea is an RPG that has a story that can be broken up into a series of patches/DLC that can end or expand at any point, but also each patch can use previous patches to create an immense and in depth experience.
So the first question is how do I creates a story that allows for a large world, but keep the player limited in what they can explore while more of the story is thought up... and how do you solve the whole problem i have with you being a total nitwit for someone who has lived in this world all their life...
The answer is, this basic premise...
You are transported "magically" to an alien ship who takes you to the galacic capital where the council is left to decide what to do with you. Eventually it is decided that you will act as a "spy" / "peacemaker" as you are an unknwown and thus are more likely to be unconspicuous if you are curious about the happenings of the world. After a test run in the capital you are given increasingly more and more dangerous missions and as such are given access to more of the galaxy.
Basically... think ME + Farscape + some crime drama or something like that...
The galactic government will pay you and you are able to take up side side jobs so that you can upgrade equipment and transportation... originally you start having to pay to be transported, but eventually you should be able to get a large ship and mechs and such...
The obvious path for the story to take is that "you" want to get home so you try figure out how you got there and how to get back and while you do you get wrapped up in conspiracies and such.
How does this limit you? Well if you take the idea of "jump gates" and say that they can be turned on and off and mix that with border patrols you can say that the government must give you access to travel between jumpgates which makes it so you must earn access which means from a story line perspective you only have to develop the capital at first and then put a "to be continued" so that each new planet or what not is new DLC that can advance the story.
I want to keep things within my ability to do them so I'm trying to create a unique turn based system of a sort.
Currently my idea is that you can have up to 15 characters in your party, but these 15 characters are AI controlled, can't always come along, and are divided into groups of 3. Only your main character is self controlled. You give general commands to the rest of the group...
Basically I'm taking the idea that there are 5 basic roles in a battle situation.
Attacker, Defender, Healer, (de)buffer, and Leader. Each of these roles can be taken up by various jobs and can characters can shift between roles based on need. Different roles in the groups effect how long it takes to cast/attack and how effective it is.
So how do you control your group?
You can give your entire party or each group a "mode"
Heavy Attack - All members will use riskier attacks that take longer to charge or take longer to recover from...however if you have a defender in your group they will defend these guys which will help the recovery rate of basic attackers and the potency of magic casters due to them not having to worry about dodging.
Light Attack - All members will use quick cautious attacks... basically so they don't leave themselves exposed but don't hit anything hard.
Defend - Puts all members into a defensive position. Defenders focus completely on blocking. Attackers switch to countering. Mage types switch to regen and healing as primary.
Experiment - Party attack in different patterns and use light attacks to test effectiveness of various attacks. This is important because once you learn the weaknesses of enemies characters will remember it and try it against similar mobs to try to take them down effectively.
I think this is a cool idea and pretty easy to implement...what do you guys think?
VX.....not as much. -
Quote:I think Nightwing fits Super Reflexes better than Batman ever would.^This
Batman as far as CoH goes would be a MA/SR Scrapper with the APP that gives you the shuriken (Batarangs), Punisher is absolutely an AR or DP /Traps Corr with the fighting pool, and Lobo is a SS/Inv Brute... He can bounce bullets and duke it out with Kal-El.
So what do you think maybe DC's Zauriel is a natural or magic origin WP/SS Tanker?
Mousedroid lol that example makes me think of Cyclops, President and card carrying member of the "I Should Be Dead" Club.
Batman's build (regarding his secondary) would be impossible to replicate, since it would include some, but not all of Super Reflexes, Ninjitsu, and Willpower. But I do understand what you were saying though. -
Saw one of the new ones today......I thought it was still a week off? Or maybe it was just an episode I haven't seen before.
Anyway, the cameo of two heroes from another team (I won't say who for anyone who hasn't seen the episode) was awesome. -
Quote:The X-Men are known to be some of few powered individuals who learned that you shouldn't rely on your powers all the time.....especially considering how easy it seems to be able to nullify mutant powers.Watching episode 2 now.
the U-Men attack with an airborne vehicle. And Cyclops spins his motorcycle and fires mini-missles?! Oh, and lasers too. Um....he's a long ranged weapon himself. He doesn't need missles or lasers! Just open the visor and the threat is gone. But this is Japan, so I guess they had to get the mecha-esque stuff jammed into a long ranged mutant's machinery. -
Quote:I now regret doing so.It's about the fans. Superhero fandom is home to a disproportionately large and vocal number of complainers, trolls and general douchebags. Fantasy fandom has it's share of douchebags too, to be sure, but for whatever reason they seem to be more vocal and more accepted in superhero circles. Drop by any of the major comic book web sites and look over their forums and you'll see what I mean.

I suppose there isn't any tech in the DC Universe that he can (and he has in the past and in various elseworlds stories) utilize that mimics or counters magical effects?

Quote:The most effective way of combatting over-moderation? Create a channel and convince people to jump ship. No use being an overmoderator if there is no one to overmoderate.Hah. That channel was taken over by the people that complained of over-moderation and more people are being silenced now than before.
When a channel's MOTD and description (found in the channel search window) are clear that the channel is moderated, people should expect mods to act. If they disagree with the level of moderation, then the are free to choose if they prefer that level of moderation or make a new channel that is less moderated. -
Quote:Yeah, and I while I don't totally disagree, from personal experience the mods could have been a bit less.......donkey-hole-ish about it.I think TF channels are for TF discussion. If there's an extended discussion on a TF channel about power selection, I don't see a problem with a mod asking people to take it elsewhere.
I think what makes people mad when mods do stop off topic chat is the way that they do it. Something like "I don't want to sound controlling, but can you guys keep the chat on topic in case someone is looking for a TF?" is what people would honor.
But not "Hey you guys shut up and stay on topic or I'll silence or kick you" I'm sorry, but if someone asks like that, I refuse to take that lying down. No one else should either.....and ignore is too simple and easy. I like payback. And yes it does sound petty, but I will admit that it brings me joy.
Anyway, the first request was nice, respectful, and the mod understands that off topic chat will happen, but would prefer to keep it to a minimum.
The second: the mod seems angry that people aren't following his rules and comes off as a control freak who will silence anyone who dares to defy his iron-fisted rule. A request like that led to me leaving the TF channel on Virtue some months ago. -
Fantasy of any setting.....Dungeons and Dragons, Lord Of the Rings, Warcraft, et al. Mortals often come into conflict with beings with far greater power than them. Giants, Dragons, Abominations, Demons, and even gods themselves. The heroes of some stories often triumph over them, either by their skill, magical powers or weapons, et al.
But I've noticed that when their counterparts in comic book universes do the same things against beings of similar power, people howl and complain. If any of you read the Superman/Batman story arc Supergirl, Batman confronts Darkseid in an attempt to persuade him to leave Supergirl alone. Batman knows Darkseid far outmatches him in power, so he brings along a Mother Box and steals armor from Darkseid's soldiers for aid. No, Batman did not attempt to outfight Darkseid like he would Bane as he is on an entirely different level. Bring along the right equipment was the right idea. It didn't stop people from complaining however.
Are characters who do the exact same things in fantasy (Wulfgar and Drizzt in Forgotten Realms defeating a White Dragon) overlooked unintentionally when it comes to this? I suppose what made me think about this is what I referred to earlier: mortals do the same things in fantasy that they do in comics. You could even say those characters are medieval super heroes in their own right. -
Quote:Over the past month, I would have forgotten that I had a PS3 if not for Netflix. Not so coincidentally, I'm now playing CoH more than I was the past few months. I was planning on leaving a certain SOE game soon anyway.
And on a side note, I will never again complain of poor communication from CoH devs. The lack of communication in SOE is truly amazing.
Though I am bitter about not being able to play Super Street Fighter IV online. -
I've never been a fan of flashy powers, so I decided to go with the more subtle photographic memory and/or photographic reflexes. (Taskmaster)
I would then go to my entire Kung Fu movie collection. -
I wonder why they just don't go off of Smallville (whenever the show ends) and just call the movie Metropolis?
-
When I was about 10 years old, there was a story of a former Marine (who was also in special forces, I want to say Force Recon, but I don't remember) who went vigilante and actually killed several drug dealers. Haven't heard about the guy since, whether he is alive, incarcerated (for killing dealers) or dead.

I have this one in my search box, which I got from Animaniacs.
Good Idea: Sending a tell to team
Bad Idea: Sending a blind invite
Several times I have gotten blind invites, and the people would send a tell asking "Was that a bad idea?" -
I had wondered why I hadn't seen Psimon in the comics for some time.
And then I remembered that he had his head repeatedly bashed in with a rock by the Joker. -
I was certain that someone would have mentioned One Winged Angel by now.

Quote:If I were invulnerable and had no fear of pain, injury, or death (though I've met people who didn't fear them despite no invulnerability) then I would leap over every criminal in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I'm just a normal guy in the real world.Very true. I've helplessly watched someone die while waiting for the police and help to come. He was shot in front of me, and yes, I immediately called 911. I don't want to ever go through that again, it took almost a year to get over it, and I'm still not quite there.
I'm a strong proponent for people to help when they can, however they can.
I know people say that only police should get involved, but from what I saw that was taught in the military (I was SF in the USAF), most of what we are learn isn't all that effective, with firearms being exceptions. I questioned this, and was then told why everyone isn't taught special forces techniques, which are very effective. Not everyone is as adept at restraining themselves.
Still don't really understand what he meant, but it'd be a rather scary place for criminals if every cop was as well trained as a 10 year Delta operative, Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, et al (I am aware that some officers have these backgrounds) -
And I only bring it up because I am reminded of a news story I saw as a kid.....a former marine went vigilante and went after several drug pushers and gangbangers. I have no idea what happened to him, but he was famous enough to have an episode of New York: Undercover based on him.
