  1. I know everyone is upset over what has happened/is happening, but I'd like everyone to take a moment to see things as I see them.

NCsoft can NOT kill your characters, they can NOT kill Paragon city, they can NOT kill this world. Sure they can shut down servers but those are just machines that store data.

CoH lives within US! The players, the devs, and anyone who has helped to create and shape this world as we know it today. Every character, every story, every building came from within someones imagination, and it will live there forever. Your heroes will continue to fight the good fight, your villains will continue to hatch evil plans, and those in the grey areas will continue to fight their own inner demons. We might not be able to play this game much longer, but that doesn't mean our characters die. (unless we want them to of course)

    Here is my proof.

    The story of Jathrek.

Who is Jathrek? Allow me to explain. Jathrek is from Felucca where him and his older brother Vertigo were born. Vertigo was a master smith and swordsman. He was a man who relied on his forge and his own two hands to guide him though life. Jathrek, always in his brothers shadow, turn to the mystic arts to make a name for himself. He only wished to prove himself equal to his brother. The two lived together in a small town near their adopted mother Sarai. Life was good, but all good things must come to an end.

Jathrek had become a force with magic that rivaled any sword or shield his brother could create, but he didn't stop there. Jath had begun experimenting with portal magic, but accidentally conjured a portal on a cracked rune. This would have long standing repercussions Jath would not fully understand until many years later. The immediate Consequences were MUCH more obvious. Jathrek stepped though the portal he had created, but it did not lead him home, or to town, not even to the furthest reaches of the land he called home. It lead to Dereth.

When Jath stepped from the portal he found himself in an unknown land. Not seconds later he heard a howl that would change his life forever. A tri-pedal monster he had never seen before rushed towards him at remarkable speed. Corp Por! Jath shouted without hesitation. An incantation he used all too commonly in his homeland as a means to slay attackers, but not here. Nothing happened, not even the smallest spark. He tried again, he tried different spells, anything he could think of. All of it failed. As the monsters teeth sank into his side, he felt a power wash over him. When he woke up, he was laying face up in front of a rotating blue gemstone of sorts. Jath threw down his bag of useless reagents and headed into a town he saw nearby. He needed answers. Where was he? What happened? And of course, what the heck has 3 legs and teeth....

The first thing Jathrek noticed on the way into town was a small building with a forge. After a long chat with the local smith he realized just how bad his situation was. The town was called Rithwic, in the land of Dereth, and everything he knew was gone. His magic, his house, his world, and most importantly, his family. The creature that had attacked him was called a reedshark, and it was one of the smallest threats he would face in this new land. The smithy told him of a mage nearby that could explain things better, but the magic of this world was completely different. Jathrek now knew why his brother chose that path he did. The ability to wield a blade never fades, a shield never dissipates, and physical training never fails. Jath forsake the mystic arts forever and picked up a smiths hammer. He would live in this land for many years to come, guided by his forge, his sword, and his own 2 hands.

But the story doesn't end there, it goes on even today. The cracked portal continues to randomly jump Jathrek to different worlds at a moments notice. He has had many friends in many places, and he's done many things. He has defended the town of Lin in Dareth, flown a ship in the name of human kind against the Vrix, wandered the lands of Azeroth, and of course used his skills to defeat countless villains in Paragon city. He feels the portals power growing once more, he knows his time here is limited. But where will he end up? What will he do next? Stay tuned loyal followers, for this story has just begun.

The experiences you have, and the people you meet are all that really matters in the end. Thank you to Sarai, Siegen, Alma, and all the others who have made these worlds worth living in. Thanks also to the devs who make these places for our imaginations to grow. I know the CoH dev team has always been dedicated to the reality of a dream, not the fictional stability of money. I hope you all find a new place to call home, and maybe, just maybe, that portal will take Jathrek there one day.

Signed, Jathrek. aka: Catastrophic Error, The Angry LiL Pyro, The Nightmare Wyvern, Nether Rain, Smash N' Grab, Eternal Cloud, Goodnight Kiss, and many others.
  2. *rant on* I know this has been mentioned a few(hundred) times already, but why is the new incarnate system so overly complex? It's not that I don't understand how it works, it just a pain in the rear for no apparent reason. If all common comps cost 20 threads, and all common abilities cost 3 commons, why not just make the abilities cost 60 threads and forget about having 50 different components?! Seriously, why have the components at all? Just make each level of ability cost x# of threads. *rant off*
  3. Perm mire was my ultimate goal, but since I already have that on my live build I was curious just how high it could go. Your changes would put it up to 217.5% but sacing the slot in dwarf would be suicide if eclipse wasn't available for some reason. I do find it kinda funny that I'd still have perm hasten with only 1 slot in it though...

And yes I know I only have the revamp posted, but that's because it is what I have in live. the incarnate grind is getting to me already and we only have 5 slots so far. I won't be having purple anything in those for quite some time. All in due time though.
  4. good call. I've never used pvp io's in a build, but it's worth a look. Thanks
  5. Just curious, can anyone find a way to add more recharge. It might sound silly, but I've never been one to do things in moderation. Other build advice is welcome as well.

  6. In before Dechs. My MFing warshade, hands down. Only my fire/ice blaster comes close to the fun of a full power tri-form.
  7. I threw this together for another example. it is based off the same plan I use for my 3d corr (same powers different mods) The highlights of this build include capped range, and 30ish to everything, with darkest night running nothing has a very good shot at you.

Above all else though, this build is dirt cheap compared to some others while still maintaining excellent performance. (some of the higher priced enh can be substituted for commons, such as the def/res sets).

  9. This is my current I19 build for my crab. I think it's pretty good, but I'd like other people to look it over for anything I've missed. The goal is for a well rounded character, capable of starting the fight from range with AOE, supported by the 2 melee attacks for when he is surrounded.
Yes I know, everyone hates frenzy, yes I could take one of the pool AOE attacks instead with the same if not better results, but I like it. *shrug*
He is a full time villain currently following the cardiac incarnate path.

Wrong. The game is about having fun. Winning, losing,DPS,drops, inf, survivability, and all the stats you can fit on your "spreadsheet of heroes" don't mean diddly squat if your not having fun. PERIOD.

If you ask me Khelds are the best AT in the game followed by blasters and corruptors because I find them the most fun. On the other hand widows, scrappers, and masterminds are "fail" because I do not find them fun. Notice how power does not equal fun.

In the end there is no right and wrong, no 1337 or fail. There is only personal preference.
  11. I understand both sides of this issue, and I think everyone should be able to play the way they want. Personally though, I side with the HEATs. Not only can Khelds be build in many different ways but it is the player directly that makes the Kheld successful. My warshade has 2 builds, tri-form and human. Both play completely different but are both powerful. The tri-form is stronger in most cases, but not always what I feel like playing at the moment. My PB is only 38, but I'm already planning a human/dwarf and a tr-form build for him as well.

Like most other Kheld lovers in this thread, I find the Veats to be boring as heck. Widows are by far the worst. Randomly mashing the 1-5 keys and winning every battle with ease simply is not fun to me. I just don't find anything fun about playing a game you can almost never lose, no matter how badly you play. The only Veat I still play is my bane. I think banes are the most balanced veat and have more variety in play style than the others. Crabs and fortunata's are ok, but simply overpowered. Instead of buffing banes (that has been suggested over and over again) I think the other 3 could use a well placed smack with the nerf bat.

Veats need much better story too. Your not a destined one, you are a destined one, we don't know if your a destined one, maybe you are a destined one, now lets go beat up statesman just because we feel like it, the end. The entire 50 level arc boils down to this. The devs have stated for years that "Epic" refers to the long in depth storyline attached to the character and then they give us that?! *sigh*

Anyways, enough Veat-bashing in a thread about Heats. Take it how you like it, but in my opinion, Heats are anything BUT fail.

*edit* In response to Memphis Bill's post I do not use any keybinds for my Khelds. Ask Lord Xenite if my performance suffers because of it. -Nether Rain
  12. Here is a modification to Vernichterhelge's build. It keeps the positional softcaps, but also includes hasten/assault, and near perm pets/serum. It's still not perfect, and it will cost a lot, but it's good enough.

  13. NightmareWyvern

    Uber veterans

While I VERY rarely post, I've been lurking in this game for 5 years now.(only 3 on the boards) I just hit the 60 month badge a few days ago.

The Happy/Angry LiL-Pyro has always been my main character. I now have 4 of him (only 2 are 50) and a total of 5 Fire/ice blasters. I don't know why, it's just a fun combo to play.

The Nightmare Wyvern(3dcorr) was my first 50 though, and first main villain. He is probably my all around most powerful character as well. Yes, that's right, I've played since near release and my first 50 was a villain, not a hero.

I only have a few other 50's some I still play (crab/bane) and some I don't much (DM/EA brute) I never could get into melee characters as much, I prefer ranged.

My favorite build/s is my Warshade by far. Yes I love Pyro still, but nothing matches the diversity of the 'shade. his builds now total over 1.5 bill between the 2 of them, and that is with only 8 total purple enhancements(all of them soulbound for the pets) He will continue to improve as well. I also enjoy my storm/dark defender as well. he isn't "uber" and he's not even 50 yet, but I still laugh every time I pin an entire group in a corner and watch them bounce around.

That's about it, I may not play hours every day, but I still enjoy the game, and probably will for a long time still.

edit* wow, 7 posts in over 3 years.....go me!
  14. This relates back to an ebil person who decided to place 10 luck charms for sale at 2bil each as part of his Influence destruction spree. So, no matter how bad things get, you will always be able to purchase a luck charm from the market....if you have 2bil inf. The OP has just used this as a very funny way of saying "hey I have 2bil inf" If you were asking about the table, I have no clue. The market people are a little screwy in the head from what I've seen *shrug*

  15. Just remember rule #34: If your leaving scorch marks, you need a bigger gun. Also, if violence wasn't your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it... www.Schlockmercenary.com
