    Player Voice

I'd go with something like Tough, Smooth, High-Pitched, Monster Growls, Synthesiser Voice, Machine sounds (electric motors, hydraulic pistons, air compressors, etc), Creaking Metal, something along those lines.
I think a combination of both is what we need. Voice packs we can select from and then modify with a pitch slider and/or filters (for robotic, ghostly, hissing, etc) would be the best of both worlds.

With just voicepacks, everyone who selects a given voice pack sounds identical. With the ability to customize (even within a limited scope), it would give a feeling of significantly more diversity.

Another thing to consider is volume. Not how loud it is, but rather how many sound packs we'll get. If they were to add such a feature, I'm 100% certain that there will never be enough to please everybody. There will always be someone to say "Set A is almost perfect for my character but isn't pitched low enough, and Set B is pitched right but the sounds are all wrong. Blah blah blah." Having sliders/filters would enable people to select the sounds they want and get closer to the audio quality that suits their individual characters.

But what sounds do the programmers need to consider when giving voice to our characters? Here's a partial list, feel free to add more (but be reasonable):

    * basic grunt (jumping)
    * a death cry
    * "Yes" and "No" (which can be added to shake head and nod emotes)
    * Ready! (for when you hit F7)
    * the "Tarzan" noise for when you use that emote or activate the Tough power.
  2. I have actually used snipes and assassin strikes in combat. For AS, as people point out, you've got placate which makes it easy enough (as long as you don't have a whole hoard of mobs returning fire) to get a second shot off.

Snipe is a little more difficult to use in combat, but with either snipe or AS, if you've got a good taunter on your team, you should be able to pull it off with little difficulty. I'd rather keep things the way they are with the interrupt than add more time to the activation with the certainty of firing the attack off.

Are you kidding? I love the blaster Manipulation sets and think we need more of them. I wish I could play them as a primary set in combinations outside the normal AT allowances.

An Energy Manipulation/Energy Aura (armor) would be fun. Fire Manipulation/Fire Control, sign me up for some of that! Ice Manipulation/Cold Domination would be a chilly treat. Mental Manipulation/Illusion Control would be interesting. And Electricity Manipulation/Storm Summoning FTW!!

But seeing as how none of that is ever likely, I'd also like to see maybe Dark Manipulation created so the devs could give Dark Blast to blasters. I so want a dark/dark blaster, and a dark/dark defender just doesn't do it for me.

Oh, and you know what else? Maybe some kind of "Martial Manipulation" combining a few melee attacks from the martial arts set with some other Natural-oriented powers for blasters who don't want to be Magic or Mutant or Tech or Science but still end up with secondary powers with very unNatural appearances.

***thinks for a moment, then wanders off to another section of the forum to maybe suggest some new powerset ideas in a more appropriate location.***
  4. My jumper, Miss Cricket, has exceptionally strong legs which enables her to super leap all over the place. I consider it her "primary" power and took Martial Arts as her attack set not because she's a trained martial artist but rather because she can just kick really hard.

Well, he gets out every now and again when people run the Synapse TF. Isn't he one of the few giant monsters that gets to play in more than one zone? I think every now and again each of the giant monsters should get an excuse to get out and wreak havoc in a zone they don't normally play in.

Just for example, I'd like to see the Kraken show up somewhere in the Rogue Isles once in awhile. And maybe Deathsurge could make an appearance in Paragon.

That's too bad, because the revamp of Faultline breathed new life into an otherwise dead zone. I think a good idea for the zone just needs to be dropped in the devs' collective laps to really inspire them to develop something there.

    Mystery Origin?

Yeah yeah, I know... but what does it matter what Stan Lee says? He only created them. As a reader, its my interpretation of who they are now which is most important. And I say they're all mutants.

    Except Dr. Strange.

I need sub-menus. I love sub-menus. I think we need more sub-menus for existing items. Like you know how we have sneakers with and without socks? I'd like to see a third option added in there of sneakers with tights instead of socks. And while we're at it, certain items that have room for sub-menus but don't should be given this kind of treatment. I'm definitely talking about bracers here! I want bracers with tights under them... up to the wrist and also covering the whole hand. I hate that bracers are bare arm only.

    It's probably glued down.
Actually, I'd like to see a version of the Eden top with strings or something to justify its ability to stay in place. I'd also see the original remain as is... just because. Add only please, don't replace.

Giving them their own menu point would help people find the legacy stuff and help other people avoid them. I support this idea.

I also like this idea. Don't even make it an out of the way location... like how we have certain tailors who can do costuming options and others who can also do the body size/model alteration that comes with the science super-booster. Just have a legacy tailor standing off to one corner properly labelled as such.

    Mystery Origin?

So, since the origin is really just a listing/categorization by the FBSA, I'd usually be tempted to go with what they think it is. UNLESS... I fully intended to unveil the truth within a reasonable amount of time. Then I might go with the actual origin.

However... I have chosen an origin entirely based on the power it gets.

I've taken natural just because the character needed to throw knives (When, really, I thought of the character as a mutant).
I've done this. I have a mutant character who is a mutant MA/SR scrapper but has a suit of armor (special costume) filled with gadgets (various acquired temp powers). I chose the tech origin so I could also have a built in taser (origin power, mostly for show).

I've also got a science origin character acquired her magical powers from a teleporter mishap. The power is inherently magical, but it was gained through science. Still, I didn't want to have tranq darts at 1st level or have to be exposed to various radioactive themed enhancements, so I just went with the magic thing.

Iron Man is a mutant. There's no way normal geniuses could pull off half the crap he does. I think his mutant power is similar to Forge, except no one has ever tested or otherwise noted the presence of his mutant gene.
Thor is some kind of mutant. Odin, king of the Norse gods sired him with Jord --allegedly a giantess, but as it turns out in Marvel lore, she's actually one of three elder gods. So Thor is neither Asgardian nor elder god, but rather a mutant-like hybrid of the two. It would explain why he's mightier than any of the other aesir.
Daredevil is the product of super science... activating his latent mutant gene.
And Doctor Strange... he's magic!! And magic trumps science in Marvel --even the science of genetic mutation.

    Mystery Origin?

Well, I cast my vote for magic... because if its unexplained, it might as well be magical.

Even if your backstory is honing your awareness (thus training yourself to notice), it could still be explained away as an inherent magical ability that was developed through practice. Or maybe the ability is natural but his ability to keep how he does it a secret is what's magical.

I dunno, but when mystery is involved, "its magic" is always a good answer even if it really isn't magic after all.
  12. 1. Low expectations of me. I can only play 2 or 3 days a week, and it may not be the optimum times to participate in SG activities. And I'm a severe altaholic, so I may want to play characters not in the SG at a time when the SG wants to do stuff.
    2. Fun players. I like good RP as much as anyone else, but I don't want to get so bogged down in it that I can't get to any of the other stuff I enjoy in the game. And then there's the drama factor... that can really suck the fun out of playing.
    3. Food. Yummy.
    4. Thematically, the SG should suit my character or why would my character want to join? And nothing bothers me more about an SG than a group with a good theme behind it but is full of characters that don't fit that theme because the players want to bring their alts in to boost prestige.
    5. Sexy parties. I think Stewie is right on the money about those.

    Mystery Origin?

I wish there were some way to change our origin. I've had characters start as one origin and then as I develope them and choose new powers, decide that their powers grow in different way (or even completely alter the character which isn't uncommon in comic books). But once you choose an origin at character creation, you're locked into it unless you want to delete and start over.

  14. ...instead of science, we believe in crazy hocus-pocus. It's like Kansas.
  15. "Is that a hobbit?"

"No, its a hobo and a rabbit. But they're makin' a hobbit."

    Money Tree?

I didn't want to pick any of the dollars off because I was hoping that they would eventually grow into 50s or 100s.
  17. Hmm... I can do this.

Windy Skye appears much as she normally does, though perhaps her clothes seem a little more reminescent of the 1970s. Surrounding her, however, is the ghostly image of Donar, the Teutonic god of thunder... is translucent form mirrors her every action. When angry or in battle, the eyes of Donar shine with blinding flashes of lightning.

The Brown Mouse, a diminutive woman clad in simple spandex costume in reality... she appears much more ferocious and larger the than life --and not at all mouse-like.

Agent Arcanum is a man clad in a blue suit and fedora hat from the 1930s who wields an old-fashioned Tommy Gun in addition to his mystic powers. In the spirit realm, he looks exactly as he does in the physical world... except that he seems a little more "everything." He's more mysterious, more strong, more reserved, more chin, more blue in his blue suit. Everything about him seems more real and somehow unreal at the same time.
  18. Instead of "Patron," maybe we should go with Mentor?

I had thought that individual heroes as mentors would be too copycat of the villain stuff and came up with the idea that we should have a Vanguard Patron Pool, a Longbow Patron Pool, and a PPD Patron Pool.

The Vanguard one makes perfect sense since, with side-switching, heroes and villains pretty much have access to the same stuff now. And while Longbow and PPD Patron Pools would be good for thematic characters, I'd find it a little silly seeing villain-aligned characters running around with a PPD or Longbow pet in their arsenal.
  19. Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. Increased awareness of just common misses does feel like something's up. I was just looking for someone who keeps a close eye on the numbers to reassure me.
  20. Motorcycle travel power could/should disable powers the way Walk does.

Sorry, you can look cool on your motorized scooter or you can shoot energy from your hands. You decide which you need to do more.
  21. I keep hearing from different people that Accuracy has taken a hit. Now, sure, I could open up the stats window and look at all the numbers for myself... but I'll admit it, I are an idiot when it comes to looking at all the numbers and trying to make logical conclusions from the information presented.

I will say that the more I hear such talk, though, the more it feels like I am missing in combat. Like when I use Aim+Build Up and then miss on my next attack which is 2-slotted for accuracy... frequently. It could all be in my head put there by friends who don't know any better than me.
  22. I can't stand Kheldians. I've tried on several occasions, but I can't get out of the teen levels (if I even make it that far). Love the VEATs, though.

Aside from hero epics, I guess my biggest gripe is defenders. If I'm going to blast, I can do it better with a blaster... or even with a dominator which also gives me a pet and control. Corruptors are okay, because they really deal out the damage. But the support sets (buff/debuff/heal) don't do much for me. I don't mind them as secondaries, but as primaries I just hate it.

The funny thing about that is that my first level 50 and favorite character to play is a storm/electric/electric defender. I consider that character an abberation amongst defenders, though. Storm can be played much more aggressively than the other storm sets, so it compliments secondary blasting well enough.

In order of preference, though, I'd have to say my favorite to least favorite list is as follows:

    1. Tanker
    2. Blaster
    3. Dominator
    4. Controller
    5. Scrapper
    6. Arachnos Widow (Night Widow path)
    7. Soldier of Arachnos (Bane Spider path)
    8. Brute
    9. Mastermind / Stalker (tie, depending on powersets chosen)
    10. Corruptor
    11. Defender
    12. Peacebringer
    13. Warshade

    Ninja Run combo

With the fitness pool becoming inherent in the next update, everyone with Ninja Run will now have Ninja Run + Sprint + Swift + Hurdle without having to decide to take one, both, or neither.

And if you happen to pick a primary or secondary powerset that boosts your movement speed, things get even more fun. Siphon Speed for Kinetics... if I recall correctly, Super Reflexes has a power that boosts Recharge and movement.
  24. If a name you want is taken, remember that you have other alternatives than just a thesaurus or internet name generator.

You can, if the name you want is short enough, try adding something to the front or back of it to distinguish it from everyone else. For example, I created a magical AR/Mental Manip. blaster with a nostalgic 30's "man of mystery" style (fedora & trenchcoat) and wanted to use the name Arcanum. Arcanum was taken, so it was time to see what I could take on without losing the the theme I wanted.

    * Captain Arcanum? Nah, too heroic sounding and I want someone who might better fall into the category of vigilante.
    * Mr. Arcanum? Definitely has possibilities.
    * Prof. Arcanum? Nah, sounds too bookish.

Eventually, I wound up with Agent Arcanum and I'm quite happy with it. "Operative" and "Arbiter" are popular ones amongst people making Arachnos-themed characters, but I find that Agent works well for just about any organization.

You could also look at tacking on "-Man" or "-Boy" at the end (if male)... and "-Woman" or "-Girl" if female. In my case, if I was going for a more spandexy hero type, I could have named him Arcanum-man. Doesn't sound as smooth as I'd like, though.

Another idea I often use is to look at my powers (and powers to come) for descriptive adjectives. Colors also work... but the more basic ones are probably taken in combination with what you want, too. I was surprised when I got Red-Volt for my electric/electric brute back when we got the electric melee and electric armor power sets. Because he was a villain, his electric was red and Volt just made sense because of the nature of his powers. I deleted that character and am pretty sure that name is gone on Virtue, so if I ever wanted to recreate, I might need to either delve into color synonyms (Crimson-Volt or something like that) or maybe recolor the name of my electricity and find another color that isn't taken.
