slower fights
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely not. The speed is the #1 ingredient keeping me and the majority of PvP'ers I know in the game. When people talk about how innovative CoX PvP the speed is usually forming the core of that opinion.
If I wanted slow I wouldn't have quit WoW PvP. The day I find myself running across Siren's using Sprint and Fitness (as the norm, not b/c I'm debuffed) is the day I quit CoX as well.
Give an Arena option to completely turn off travel powers.

/qft. Arcana, I think you are a very smart problem and I like most of your ideas. But I think your idea of slowing down pvp in coh is off the wall.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's an interesting idea, but I dislike it as well. If they slowed down combat or PvP, I'd quit as well. Suppression irks me enough as it is. There are 3 things that keep me in this game and make me laugh at everything else out there:
(In order)
Beauty - of the game world, costumes, powers and animations
Speed - of the combat in both PvE and PvP
Power - being able to take on multiple foes at once feels amazing, and having a "god mode" power later on makes me smile -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm talking about the expectations you have in a fight.
1) You have the default To Hit value (ie no buffs), your target has no Defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?
2) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has no defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?
3) You have the default To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?
4) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?
[/ QUOTE ]
If this is 1v1 in a closed environment with no outside influences:
1) As the Offender, I expect to hit 75% of the time. As the Defender, I expect to be missed 25% of the time.
2) As the Offender, I expect to hit 95% of the time. As the Defender, I expect to be missed 5% of the time.
3) As the Offender, I expect to hit 5% of the time. As the Defender, I expect to be missed 95% of the time.
4) As the Offender, I expect to hit 50% of the time. As the Defender, I expect to be missed 50% of the time.
On #4 I was torn in whether to make it: As the Offender, I expect to hit 75% of the time. As the Defender, I expect to be missed 25% of the time, or leave it at the 50%. I went with the 50% because #1 seems like what the first part of the game is like. Everyone is fresh, new and has hardly any powers. Thus, everyone can throw stuff out and hit for the most part.
Situation #4 comes off as what an epic, final, end game encounter is like. Both sides are maxed out on their power, fully buffed. So to make it fun and epic, a 50/50 chance for a win seemed a lot better and less one sided against the guy who had worked so hard to get Max Defense, who would be getting hit 75% of the time. -
LoL. I always picture Altered Beast on SEGA everytime someone says that
Wow how things have changed since this thread started. -
Yes, as long as it's optional. Open PvP like on a PvP server, [censored] no.
-
Idea: There are 4 pools for drops, of which B is scheduled to drop from the completion of Story Arcs.
Situation: Many people with lvl 50 characters have already completed the story arcs required to have access/chance at Pool B.
Problem: Find a way to give lvl 50 characters a chance at receiving rewards from pool B, without disturbing Pools A, C and D and without having to recreate the idea of Pool B in a very complex way.
Possible Solution: Given that the completion of a Story Arc also rewards a player with a souvenir, why not make a system that scans a hero ONCE upon logging in, counts the number of souvenirs they have, and then awards them with 1 piece of salvage from Pool B for every souvenir.
Along with this, find a way to allow story arcs that have been skipped from outleveled contacts, to be accessible to higher level characters if they go back and speak to that contact and if they have an open spot for a story arc. Granted, they WON'T get XP or INFLUENCE from the arc and it won't be a challenge, but the opportunity that many feel is being taken away will be given back and in the end, they will be able to receive a reward from Pool B at the end of it. It's not Flashback, but it is an opportunity regardless.
- Apologies if this has been suggested elsewhere, the thread was too long to read >.< - -
[ QUOTE ]
What is it about PvP that makes people justified in even suggesting that PvP-related rewards should be confined to PvP-related situations. If someone said Amy should only work in Croatoa task forces, they'd be laughed off the boards.
There's lots of things I don't necessarily enjoy in the game, but I don't go around projecting the attitude that its defacto justified to marginalize them, and everyone associated with them. Shivans and Nukes are not PvP rewards. They are rewards that happen to have their prerequisites in PvP zones. Not only do I not want Shivans and Nukes to be restricted to PvP zones, I don't want *any* rewards restricted in specifically that manner without some very good justification for partitioning PvP and PvE in that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Omg dude, slow down. This has NOTHING to do with PvP. This has NOTHING to do with separating games or anything crazy like that. I love PvP and PvP a lot. In fact, I just finished grinding my 3rd Blaster to 50 and he's specifically made for PvP. Look:
<ul type="square">[*] Thread is started saying "look at what I did and how much XP I got." Everyone says cool and I agree, that's a ton of xp. Then you look at the side of the picture and you see a Shivan.
[*] People start talking about how cool Shivans are and how they and nukes help people solo crazy things and do other hard tasks.
[*] Castle pops in and says that yeah, we know they're good and we like them too. He briefly mentions that they know the powers are "over the top", but doesn't say anything about changing them or reducing them.
[*] People start thinking they're going to get nerfed. No one likes nerfs, everyone loves the powers. I love the powers.
[*] Insert my "suggestion" (and I believe everyone is entitled to suggest something) about just restricting them to PvP zones INSTEAD of nerfing/changing them.
[*] Insert argument about carebears and restrictions and all this other stuff over a suggestion.
[*] Castle comes back and says nothing is changing. End of my suggestion, end of story. Everyone is happy.[/list]
If my suggestion came off as a giant loud scream to change the game because I have some kind of "right" because it somehow seemed I didn't like PvP in "my" PvE game, then I apologize, but that's nowhere near what I was going for. All I was trying to say was, if they wanted, they could put them in just the PvP zones so that they don't have to be changed and don't affect the PvE the way they do now (all of this before Castle's QR). End of story.
Now PERSONALLY I don't like them being used so much in PvE because they make stuff way to easy and some things that aren't normally supposed to be doable solo, soloable. It's just "my" opinion and everyone can play their game the way they want, hey, have fun, it's what you come to play the game for. It just confuses me to hear people say stuff like...
"Zomg dudes, we just took down a GM with just 3 people and didn't get touched ONCE! Well, ok, we used 4 nukes, 3 Shivans with Vengeance and armors, 2 Amys and a Warwolf, but still!"
..and they expect some kind of mad props for doing it. So? I mean, hey, good for you, but anyone can do that if they had all that stuff with them. There was no skill involved.
Where's the challenge? Where's the feeling of solid accomplishment? People start complaining about stuff being so easy and that the RSF is a joke when it was originally hailed as the "hardest thing in the game". That's what gets to me. I applaud those that can do the RSF with no nukes or shivans and less then 8 people. I've heard of 5 person teams using no crazy temp powers finish it in record time, and that's amazing.
Like I said, that part of my posts are just my opinion, no one has to agree with it or anything like that. You don't have to read it, and if you do, my god, then just forget it if you don't like it. I'm with you, I don't like seeing PvE changed because of PvP or one thing working one way in this place and another thing working another way someplace else. I feel the whole game should be looked at in terms of balance. Some things may not always work out, but that's expected. Anyways, I hope that clears things up. -

In the end, just restrict all PvP gained powers to the PvP zones.

How about this: once you zone into the PvP zones, you can't zone back out again. That would prevent powers, badges, influence, experience, inspirations, and salvage gained in those zones from ever leaving.

Carebears must die.

Ok, first of all, neither of those comments make sense. For being someone that's good with numbers and thinking logically, your suggestion makes no sense Arcana. I don't know if you were trying to be funny or trying to sarcastically disagree with my idea, but if you were, you can just say so.
As for carebear? LoL, what? Yeah dude, because I'm totally trying to nerf something for PvP purposes. I have no idea where that comment came from. I'm guessing you got rolled in Siren's by a Mind Dom or something and decided to come QQ about it over here.
Seriously, would making it so that you could only use Shivans, Nukes and Mechs in the PvP zones ruin your PvE game? I hardly see anyone use them at all unless some ridiculous scenario plays out and there's too much aggro or too little firepower on a team. Castle just said they're not doing anything to them, so you can stop trying to come up with excuses against restricting them. I posted a suggestion here since Castle was hovering around this thread and I'm sure he, like many others, comes back around to see what his comments in a thread have gotten in terms of replies and feedback. I didn't want to suggest it in the Suggestion forum because it's pretty crowded over there and hard to get your idea out.
Anyways, I don't want them nerfed or changed or whatever, I like what they do. The Shivan power is kind of a joke to get, especially if you're a Stalker. The Warburg nuke isn't too terribly hard to get, but it does take a good amount of time. The Longbow Mech is definitely tough to get, but that's because there's a lack of actual activity going on in RV at all times that will net you 1000 pts.
It just pains me to see epic encounters or some difficulty in the game end up being reduced to "ok, screw it, go get Shivans and nukes" rather then trying to figure out a way to overcome it with some kind of strategy or skill or designing it so that you need to think of something alternate to do first.
The trap door set off in the Hess TF, pulling people to different areas of a map to hinder others from getting to that point so as to split a battle, using a temp power against the Clockwork King, those kinds of things are different and make the fights seem alive. When I first did the RSF on my Stalker (yeah, I got on a team) I was SO antsy and stoked when we got to the last mission. It was awesome to see all the heroes standing there and thinking about the battle to come. In the end, I couldn't see myself half the time because of all the damn Shivans everywhere and nukes crashing down. Statesman got to shoot off his Thunder attack ONCE and it was over in a matter of 10 minutes or so. It just felt so empty and boring.
"Well dude, wth do you expect? You'll die if you try anything else, you can't just rush at them, there is no other way. It's just dumb and suicidal."
Well DUDE, that's what I'm trying to say and get people to think about. There are some good ideas on how to mix combat up and I hope that they get put in so that strategies like the Shivan/Nuke get cast aside and aren't viable. I have a passion for this game and I love it when new and fresh ideas are put into it. I just don't want all that time and effort wasted and underappreciated. -

You do realize I've done this so far with Stone Armor/Super Strength (Tanker) and Fire/Fire Brute? Next is probably going to be a Corruptor. If they start nerfing, they may as well do another global nerf cause I can do this with any character.
Or they could buff AV's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or we could reduce the effectiveness of a suite of Temp Powers. Shivans and the Nuke's are pretty dang good.
And before more people jump on Optimus, we've known those powers were over the top since they were created.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not make PvP temp powers only usable in PvP? I had always originally thought that that's how it was going to be. When they talked about "launching a missle strike against your opponents" in the pre-release teasers about the upcoming PvP zones, I pictured it only happening in the PvP zones to make them lively. When I found out that you could do it, well, ANYWHERE, it struck me as odd, but I rolled with it. The same thing goes with the Shivans and whatnot. In the end, these two powers have been abused to all heck and back and made challenges like the RSF, taking on AVs and SF/TFs pretty boring and unchallenging. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it may throw off proper testing and balancing because of the results that they can produce and add on to others.
In the end, just restrict all PvP gained powers to the PvP zones. It would make sense I feel and it would make people come up with other strategies and ideas for taking on challenges. Don't nerf the powers, I think they work fine for the work you put into getting them, i.e. 1000 pts. in RV, Escorting 3 scientists and running around to Meteor Shards. -

Not at all true. If that were my attitude, I wouldn't even be trying to get some changes through. I can understand why you think that would be the case, though.
In an upcoming patch, here are a few things you'll see:
Increased minimum ranges for attacks like Blaze.
Some improvements for */Fire (No, no powers were switched out. No Fiery Embrace, I'm afraid. )
Some improvements for Fire/*
A very minor improvement for Gadgets...I mean, Devices! (Yeah, it was a dumb mistake -- typing in haste and all of that.)
I have some ideas for other changes/improvements, but there is no ETA on when or if I'll get them in.

Jack.... Jack.... Not gonna say I didn't like him, he might nerf me :-D but from what I can tell, he's too involved in his company to know EVERYTHING we want. He should either hire someone to run the company and develop full time and get back in touch with his customers. That or he should just run the business and leave the developing completely to Matt and the others who are still regularly communicating with the player base. It really is an either or in my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
QFE. The day he started going off about the card game, the novels, the figures and all the other stuff that wasn't the game, I knew that he was going to get way too caught up in everything else to focus the way a Lead Designer should on a game that they created. I'm not saying he shouldn't oversee the overall image and franchise of the CoX universe, someone needs to, but as it came to pass, someone else HAD to focus solely on the game or else it would go to hell with his lack of focus on just it, so they boosted Matt to the Lead position. This is a very common occurrence within business since a business eventually grows and responsibilities grow as well and have to be divided up. That way contact with the customers isn't lost and their opinions aren't filtered through a bunch of different people and reports.
Personally I'd have one person in charge of just CoV design and one in charge of CoH design whom then reported to one overall CoX designer who worked on advancing the story and things common to both games. In essence you'd have the three heads making sure that both games got their fair share and at the same time matching up to where they need to cross and progress forward together.
The main story writer should collaborate with all three heads and there should be two teams, one for each side, working on their own stuff, but all in the same room so that each side can grab ideas from the other and constantly communicate what each one is adding.
Every day at the beginning or during lunch it should be mandatory that each person who works at Cryptic read the corresponding forum for their department for at least 30 minutes or so and take notes of the top issues/topics that are being discussed amongst the playerbase. The Community Manager could spend the week talking to a different department each day and communicating what their short term and long term goals are to the community at the end of the week or month, so that we all have an indication of what is being fixed, what they could use our help with and what they're not sure of.
Communication is always, ALWAYS what makes or breaks great ideas and success stories. Communicating with the people who actually play the game, with the people who make the game and the people who make the game able to exist are the basic three areas surrounding any kind of business.
In summary, the best quote for all of this is "Assumption is the mother of all [censored] ups." -

that's dumb then
castle said that stalker snipes WITH crit (from hide) will do .9 of blaster snipes
and stalkers only get BU, while blasters can get BU and aim, so stalkers snipes could only out-damage a blaster's if the stalker used BU and was hidden, and the blaster used neither aim or buildup
if they changed that...that's retarded
can anyone confirm/deny this?

Blaster snipes, even with BU and Aim, aren't that impressive.

For whoever was wondering, the upgraded 2nd Tier thug has both Manuevers and Tactics for the thugs, resistance to lethal I believe it was and you can enhance him for Def Buff and ToHit Buffs. This all stacks along with your Supremacy. Yes, it's very, VERY nice.

So if people have the Tier 2's up, can anyone tell us what their passive/resistance thing is reading when right clicked? Is it a leadership buff or anything? Any pics or differences between unupgraded and upgraded look?

So...freaking....huge....OMG, but so pretty. I thought we were supposed to start at the bottom of it though? I took the black line into it. Is there any other way to it? I dropped before I could check.

Yeah, rezzers when you die leave you at 1 HP and 1 End, but the zone is amazing! WOW it was so much fun!

I won't mind if they change the toggle dropping. I even won't mind if they did away with the stun chance in Energy Punch or Bonesmasher. But if they even look at changing the damage capability or any of the utility powers, I will be righteously pissed. The set is amazing in how it works together and I fell in love with it after a few levels. It's going to be the Million Blaster Walkout if anything huge happens to EM. I really don't think they'll do anything major to change it since they have said they want to buff the secondaries, so no one start jumping to conclusions yet. Go to the Test Server and post there

As a guy who plays a level 40 Stalker solo in Warburg, this Placate change doesn't bother me a bit. If I walk up to a team of 8 with no perception, AS someone, then use Placate on ONE person, why should I disappear from sight from the ENTIRE team? Placating should mean that my single target cannot aggro me (as I've appeased his aggro with Placate), not that I disappear from view if there's no +perception.
Placate should = cannot target anymore, not cannot target AND cannot see anymore.
This change will only affect teams where not a single member remaining after an AS + Placate has a +perception power. Even from my stalker's PoV, this change makes sense to me and I like it.

It's always funny to see the weaker players of the AT start crying about any little change to a power. Yes, I said weaker, because we have so many tools to help us out in almost any situation, a little 25% drop in stealth should make hardly any difference in your PvP play style. Trust me, the guys who know how to play their AT immediately start thinking of scenarios and ways to combat any change the second they hit the period at the end of the statement declaring any change to a power. -
::walks into thread munching popcorn::
Hey guys what's going on? Am I missing something? Wow, lot of the vets are out and posting. Oh god, numbers, nooooo.
::gets mezzed by numbers:: -
I think we should take everything out of this and consolidate all the information for each set and power within it and post it into a new thread. Would help with the information sifting and would be easier for Castle to read.
-
I'm pretty sure there will be a Portal Jockey type badge with a requirement to kill all of the Phalanx members or something within the lvl 40-50 content.
-
I've seen the posts about "Bleed" DoT damage before from Scrappers and other people. I don't know if the code to make such an attribute would be easy, which is why I didn't try offering it as a suggestion. It would be a nice idea though. Like I said in my long post, I'm not saying we don't have to try and come up with better, more creative ideas, but if you guys seriously want fixes sometime soon, and by that I mean in a couple of months, then try not to think of animation and/or major code changes that will take close to a year to finally churn out. In case you haven't noticed, Cryptic doesn't necessarily focus all of its workforce to balancing the ATs. There is no "AT Balance Team". They throw these things out when they get a chance. I would LOVE if they stopped with the content and went back to the beginning and started fixing all the little holes and other issues, like buffing our secondaries and adding newspaper style missions, and threw that out as an issue, but it won't happen.
Furthermore, I posted my ideas because that's all they were, ideas, not final solutions. I'm not trying to convince anyone that we should all vote for them. I wanted to just put them out so that if Castle passes through this thread again he'll have some other ideas to consider when trying to buff us.
So let me repeat this again, I would recommend thinking in terms of relatively small, easy changes that include existing animations and codes if you want fixes to come out fast.
Finally, in terms of carrying over the 30% unresistable damage, they'd have to take away our Defiance most likely to implement an idea like that. As much as many would cheer, I doubt they would do it. It's a chunk of code in the game that the Devs are happy with, and they would probably just rather not take the time to take it out. Also, are you wanting just AR and Archery to have this applied to them? Because if so, some people may be jealous if they don't understand why it is that only those sets get it and no one else. Plus, transfering the code from PvP and breaking it to apply to JUST two sets rather than all, as it currently exists, might pose a problem and take some time for the programmers to get right. So think about that.
P.S. We really should ask Castle what some of the basic design rules/guidelines that they follow are when they try to change already existing code within the game to help us out when we come up with ideas.
