I say "yeah some people are on the fringe and might have a problem", you say "I AM ON THE FRINGE AND HAVE A PROBLEM!111" like I hadn't already addressed the existence of a small minority

Yeah, there are a few people who, due to whatever odd circumstances, manage to play a video game with a recurring monthly cost while otherwise barely scraping by.

Hooray, it's nice to have you aboard!

You're not the audience for booster packs.
Ten bucks still isn't a meaningful sum to the vast majority of players.
    Oh well!

You're very judgemental to people who say 10 bucks means a lot to them.
    No I'm not.
I'm saying YOU'RE NOT THE AUDIENCE FOR THIS PRODUCT.
And also that ten bucks DOESN'T mean a lot to the people who are the audience, i/e the bulk of the playerbase.

Am I castigating you for your situation? No. I place the same moral value on cash or the lack thereof IRL as I do in game, which is to say none at all.

The reality for the vast majority of people who play this game is that ten bucks is a minor expense quickly forgotten. And we're the audience for these boosters.

I can generalize, which I have- "a minority can't afford boosters easily- they are not the audience for the product".
that covers as much of your "story" as necessary for the sake of the argument. I don't need an encyclopedic knowledge of your history to make a broad point, I'm not your biographer,

    Halloween Mobs

haven't noticed anything unexpected on the couple of higher level teams I've caught on with, we pretty much nuked anything that stuck its head out.

But if they did get a buff you'd expect to notice it more at the lower levels, so I'll take y'alls word for it.

I applaud those that have stepped up and kept the inf cauldron a flame. as I am too timid at this point.

It's been nice actually paying attention to how much inf I make again.

I'm keeping a few billion on hand for markteering and kitting out lowbies, but whatever I make above that gets gleemailed to the 88'ers.

I'm around 10b burned so far, with no end in sight. =D

After I19 "everyone" will get it for free.

Either way, everyone has it- I'm not seeing your point.

Kinda bummed I found out, it would've been a hilarious surprise....

IMHO the buffs are good enough that one minute of monkeyfication every couple of days is a small price to pay.
  10. Amusing that NC's decision to emphasize microtransactions has been undermined by their own ecommerce 'solution'.

Hopefully any 'fix' will include the ability to 'gift' stuff to friends...

  12. looking for one last night, there were 34 listed and an abnormally high 15k bids, last 5 was 500k or so.

AlSil generally has 1k or so listed and 1.5-2k bids at any given time.

Did somebody do a Luck Charmers number to see what would happen if they bought them all up or something?

hey don't look at me, I'm going from the info provided by the undies in a wad crowd proclaiming it as a badge celebrating gendercide (or whatever they're on about).

If it doesn't have anything to do with witches their position is even sillier than I thought.

yes, there will always be some edge cases who play on someone else's tab or who are dealing with a fixed income that features exactly $14.95 worth of discretionary expenses per month

There will always be outliers. The reality is the vast bulk of the playerbase wouldn't miss ten bucks if it fell out of their wallet at the bar (or the mall, for our younger players =P).
  15. the name of a manual for persecuting witches is the perfect name for a badge awarded for.......persecuting witches.
  16. hoping to have another billion for the fire on Monday, depending on how ravenous the weekend appetites are.

I foresee a slowdown in my incinerating due to a suddenly rediscovered affection for my fire/axe tank, who is a lot of fun now and kitted out with a pathetic array of long outleveled generics and a handful of set IOs seemingly drawn from a hat at random.

1: you can afford a gaming computer
2: you can afford a broadband internet connection
3: you can afford $15 a month for an MMO subscription.

I don't need to see your pay stub to draw some conclusions.

yes, there will always be some edge cases who play on someone else's tab or who are dealing with a fixed income that features exactly $14.95 worth of discretionary expenses per month

But the act of playing an MMO strongly implies a certain level of disposable income.

'The Playerbase' isn't squatting in a hut on the outskirts of Manila selling plastic shoelaces to buy rice, it's kicking back in front of a fairly decent computer in first world housing and blowing twenty odd bucks a week on junk food and soda.

in the context of a population that can afford to play a video game with a monthly sub fee, ten bucks ain't squat.

Buy it or don't, but stop pretending ten bucks is Bill Gates money.

It's hilarious that you think it's some kind of princely sum.

If you'd rather spend ten bones on something else, like a couple of comics or a movie, hey that's your call. But ten bucks as an arbitrary price tag on a chunk of consumer entertainment isn't much.

Seriously, the ITF is probably something most high-level characters are going to do once anyhow. Same with Rikti ship raids (maybe 2 or 3 passes to get enpugh Merits for all the costume bits?). You make it sound as if we're working in a salt mine
I've never done either due to wildly unpredictable play schedule.
I realize this is an edge case, but I'm obviously going to prefer a solution that favors my game habits.

and there are plenty of unlockables that take full on grinding.

I don't see a problem with cosmetic, QOL stuff being purchasable.
I wouldn't mind it being an either/or situation where you could buy it outright or grind for it in game, but since the game is a business it makes sense that they stick some stuff behind a paywall.

Some content gated stuff is unavailable to players who lack the time or inclination to 'play through' to it, some $$$ gated stuff is unavailable to players who lack the inclination to 'pay through' for it.
    Seems equitable to me.

The more I look at it, the more that Nature Cape is looking really, supremely fascinatingly done.
The actual leaves sticking out on it (If I am seeing it correctly) is quite a nice and new look for any capes we have.
I'm very interested to see that thing in action and "in person" (so to speak).
The mutant stuff doesn't look that appealing from the trailer (auras seem similar to ones we already have), but the stuff for the other origins ranges from cool to genuinely inspired.

The capes have less interest for me than the auras, but I'm sure I'll use both and I look forward to seeing what the really accomplished costume designers do with the capes.

My game time is valuable to me. I prefer not to spend it grinding content I don't enjoy, not to mention the stuff that is gated behind content I am largely excluded from due to the erratic play schedule imposed by family responsibilities.

One of the great strengths of this game is that by and large you can get 'the best' rewards with a limited play schedule. I have several characters sporting l337 IO builds thanks to the market, which allows time restricted but motivated players to generate metric tons of inf with which to buy 'the good stuff'.

Game time and cash both represent energy expended. When we're talking about junk that is overwhelmingly cosmetic in nature, cash makes a handy substitute for the grind.

    Quote:
How well you do in-game is a function of how dedicated you are and how smart you play, not how much cash you have to throw around in the real world.
Not seeing how the largely cosmetic offerings in the booster packs have any effect on how 'well you do' in the game, unless they help you win costume contests or something.

    Happily, it's irrelevant.
As the old saying goes, the dogs bark but the caravan rolls on.
They like my money, I like their boosters....it's win-win.
