Remember when he bashes the door to the drug lab where Boddicker was cutting that deal and after he gives his warning "Come quietly or there will be....trouble!" Everyone is firing on him for about a minute or two before he starts moving into the lab and ripping them apart. C'mon Robo, we know you had them all target locked, GO GET EM!

    Also his Prime Directives:

    1. Serve the Public Trust
    2. Protect the Innocent
    3. Uphold the Law

....hm. Is it me or is one and three pretty much the same? Isn't upholding the law serving the public?

Then there is Directive 4 where he can't take action against OCP personnel.....so if Dick Jones has a gun pointed at some innocent citizen of the city instead of the CEO, wouldn't Directives 1, 2 and 3 be able to override Directive 4? Then again in Prime Directives, Robo was sabotaged and reprogrammed with a new Directive 4 to kill John Cable and he was suffering massive systemic damage from the directives conflict.

It just seems like his Directives are more hindrance then anything.

If they can recapture the "electronic Frankenstein" theme for the character that the first movie had, including the stiff movements then that is a plus. Even a CGI version could still replicate the movements. Even Robo-cable in the Prime Directives mini series had the same stiff movement despite being a newer model.

Not sure but I think it was noted among assorted articles about the contest that Watson could buzz in faster then a human?

Also while Jeopardy can be fun, I'd like to see Watson pass a Turing Test.

Egad....I just realized, this whole Watson Jeopardy contest just might have given SNL some more Jeopardy parody ideas, if they can get Will Ferrell to host SNL then we might get a celebrity Jeopardy skit with a parody of both Watson and Sean Connery!

Yeah the irony is rather extreme.

Now if that money could help develop an actual Robocop to clean up the streets....

Or if they could create a statue of Captain America to be placed in Washington D.C.......

Robocop 1 was almost rated X/NC-17 due to the violence. I have the Criterion Director Cut version on DVD and the scene where the junior exec is blasted by ED-209 is a bit more gruesome and the scene where Alex getting shot to pieces was even more violent and then the scene of his partner kneeling next to him and the massive blood pool...... yeah I can see why they had to make a few scissor snips on those scenes to get an R rating.
  7. "Variety reports MGM is setting up financing for the film and several other remake projects. "The Lion has finally started to really stir, with MGM announcing its first post-bankruptcy co-financing deal Thursday and studio execs telling creative reps that it's moving on a quintet of projects, including remakes of 1980s pics 'Mr. Mom' and 'The Idolmaker' and long-gestating reboots of 'RoboCop' and 'Poltergeist,'" they write. At this point, the studio is looking for talent to fill all the vacancies on the project ... which is pretty much every part in the film and position in the crew."

Not surprised given the reception that Robocop 2 and 3 received. The TV series was fun even if it was toned down for network TV. Robocop Alpha Commando was a fun cartoon. The Prime directives Mini series started good and then kind of tanked in part 4.

Also in Robocop related news there is reports of a group attempting to raise money and convince the mayor of Detroit to have a Robocop statue created and placed in the city, similar to how there is a statue of Fonzi in Milwaukee.

It means that Watson can eventually take over: pretty much anything to do with applied mathematics including most statistical analysis, a lot of legal practice and analysis, most accounting functions, a lot of simulation design, almost all library functions, a lot of common bureaucracy.

Basically, anything a human does for a living where somebody describes a situation and a fixed or tightly-interpreted rule or procedure is applied.

Really, existing AI/expert systems can already do the knowledge-retrieval and rule-application parts. It's converting a described situation into data parameters that the system can work on that's the hard part and Watson seems pretty adept at that.
Why I am suddenly flashing back to the old Star Trek episode with the M5 computer?
  9. I would rather fight an army of 50 Kronos Titans that have Arachnos Flyer air support using my weakest character then seek a new 0 defeat Master Badge.
  10. If anyone hasn't read The Shepard's Tale, go read it. While the art wasn't spectacular it still gives the bulletpoint/highlights of Shepard Book's past, including his real name and who and what he was before becoming a shepard.

    Partner

Well that's that. One badge hunter completes the Partner badge set and walks away with 600 vanguard merits thanks to all the LGTFs, 1800 reward merits, and a nice supply of incarnate shards and components....... though I still say 50 is a bit much, at least he's well supplied for awhile.

Cable networks seem to be the only place that isnt content on simply running reality shows or dancing/singing contests to pay the bills.

I pretty much only look forward now to new Burn Notices, Royal Pains, Pysch, etc. I am finding Face Off to be kinda fun to watch as a reality/contest show but atleast they found a fun new medium rather then performance to deal with. And im trying out Being Human on Syfy, but it seems kinda emo and whinny for my tastes, im not sure if the original on BBC was like that also. Unfortunately right now everything i would like is either on break or getting ready to go on break, so im expecting a big blank reason to pay for cable until Doctor Who starts up again in April.

The real problem with scifi is finding a way to do it right. To put characters you like, respect, hate, loath etc all into a intresting enviroment and then create the drama. BSG did this really well, so did FireFly. STTNG also i think had a good run though it ended some time back. Problem is that things like SGU just spent 1.5 seasons and only created one character that universally people seemed to give a damn about. That i think more then the earthly alien worlds and stock recycled footage from past series was more of a downer for that show then simply no one caring about scifi.

For star wars, its far from dead. Clone Wars is a great show IMO. And one of the best rated shows on CN right now. And with the 3d work being done to re-re-release the movies next year, we should see a big resurgence with all those newer fans going to the movies. Last time the originals were in theaters was 97 so fans like my 11 year old son were not even born yet to see them on the big screen.

Star Trek, well give it some time. I cant imagine Paramount not going forward with a new movie based universe when you look at the profits from the 2009 film.

I really think the problem sometime is simply the budgets, everyone wants a TV show to look like a movie. I think shows like Doctor Who and even to some extent the STTNG have shown that its ok to sacrifice a bit on your effects budget when you put forward stories people want to see. SGU could have learned alot from that and made smaller story arcs that drew in viewers more quickly with more intrest then taking the space opera multi season view to their story lines.
I wouldn't mind if JMS could get more B5 stuff going, or create a Babylon 4 prequel series.

There are many stories to tell after Sheridan left B5 to setup shop on Mimbar, leaving Lockley and the new generation of diplomats on the station to keep the peace. Plus even though there were books that dealt with the telepath war and fate of Centauri Prime/Londo/G'kar I wouldn't object to some B5 movies about those events.

Babylon 4 prequel series: now THIS would be cool. Sinclair/Valen knows what is coming and what MUST occur and must make sure that it DOES occur. Plus he must wrestle with the fact that he cannot leave a message for anyone in the future to warn them about the Earth-Mimbari war as that would likely alter time and prevent any Babylon stations from being built, as well as the fact that he knows he is only supposed to beat the shadows and not break the 1000 year cycle since Sheridan does it and if Valen does it then history again changes and there may be no Babylon stations or Earth-Mimbari war, etc.

True, if she is acting as an agent of the gods.

Or they may just say she left the island to fight evil in man's world and leave the greek gods out of it.

I still chuckle at the JLU ep where Hermes came to her with an order from Zeus to return home to stop Faust and restore Hades. "Why should I? I was banished!" Hermes response "Oh you mean beside that whole 'Order from the Gods' thing?"

True, getting them to confess via the lasso is all fine and dandy until some Jack Thompson style lawyer states that it was a confession under duress and gets it tossed out.

Just had a bad memory flash of the old live action Captain Marvel/Shazam show where they drove around the country in their mobile home and the Greek gods contacted them by some flashing sphere in the vehicle and Billy would then communicate with them......the cardboard cutouts/FX for the greek gods were just BAD.

So here's hoping the Greek deities stay out of this.

Well there is street level crime that can usually be resolved with punches, kicks, deflecting bullets and her magic lasso.

Then there is corporate crime such as insider trading, or companies exploiting the environment, destroying the environment, illegal employment practices, etc. Such things are perhaps best fought in the boardroom or the courtrooms.

I've never expected that the actress playing the role was going to be the "weak link" in this new show. There are plenty of other things to worry about.
Yes the fans do seem more interested in the "assets" vs. the acting skills for this character.

Can't imagine why /e sarcasm off

Seriously though, we are also presuming she will have the traditional bikini costume and not the modern revamp that is currently in the comics. Need to wait and see.
  21. Well let's look at it like this: she's going to be a corporate Exec/Ceo....that means she has access to money and resources similar to Bruce Wayne.

Let's face it, most vigilante/heroes need a steady supply of money and resources to do their job, or to outfit with specialized gear on occasion.

Frank Castle tends to get his money by confiscating money from the crackhouses that he blasts, which is fine for the Punisher.

The Marvel Hero fore Hire character: Paladin is a mercenary and is for hire and I'm sure his fees are high and he has connections in terms of getting the gear he needs.

Superman: well he's Superman and has the Fortress and its Kryptonian tech so he's covered.

Bruce Wayne was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is the CEO of a major corporation.

Tony Stark: has his own company and builds his own suits

Reed Richards: money from patents on some of his inventions, plus builds what they need.

The one character that kind of defies the "must have money" tradition is Spiderman. How a kid that can't afford to buy a car managed to get the chemicals and parts needed to make web fluid and web shooters is one of those unsolvable comic mysteries, which is why I applauded Sam Rami's logic in giving him organic webshooters for the movies.

Wonder Woman could be a character that could be more effective with corporate backing via their own company.

Possibly. But sometimes the pilot and series are different due to needed changes after the pilot has aired.

As I mentioned in other threads I'm still going to give this show a chance regardless of what I hear about it. I've effectively waited 32 years for it (since the last WW show was on the air) so giving it a few hours of my time doesn't seem too much to ask for all things considered. I'll admit what I've read about it so far doesn't totally reassure me that it'll be a great show. But then again it's hard to judge a show by what a few relatively vague sentences can tell us. It's basically still far too early to assume anything about how it'll turn out it at this point.
Kind of reminds me of Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles: sounded interesting, had an interesting start, got decent, then failed. (especially Season 2).

Of course the Summernator helped inspire desire to watch it.
  24. The 5th column gladiator badge should become linked to the Khan TF and Cuda SF badge that is rewarded upon completion.

    OR:

They could make it one of those gladiator badges that need 100 kills of 5th column targets, though I've never been a fan of a gladiator badge that has a kill count requirement.

Anniversary badges: strictly speaking the badges for Winter Event login could be called anniversary badges as the event is a once a year thing. Then they added the ability to craft missing winter badges via candy canes.

So we now have a precedent set in the game to allow for the crafting of the anniversary badges. They COULD add them to the crafting list of the Winter Event so that it is still ONCE per year to obtain the badge and you still have to work to get some candy canes, presuming you don't buy them from the market.

    OR:

They could add a "badge recipe" that one can buy from the market place and then obtain the necessary salvage and influence to craft it. Use common items plus one or two rare items and a 1 million crafting fee and you can select a badge that your character doesn't have, excluding the Master Badges but including all the anniversary badges.

However there is ONE stipulation that must be included. In order to craft a badge that is part of a SET of badges, you must already have the previous badges in that set.

Example: if I want to craft the IMMORTAL badge, I need to have all the previous damage badges on that alt, no skipping ahead.
