  1. /traps with scorp shield and other defense powers. Right now I'm at 45% S/L 38% E and about 25% or so to everything else. Get a KB IO. You got mezz protection, lots of defense, soft capped to the most common type of damage in the game. You're as close to a tank and you're gonna get. Take provoke haha.

It's a lot easier to stack defense in this game than it is resistance, so if you're gonna go for a high survivability build, defense is the correct choice, especially since you don't have mez protection unless you're traps or sonic res. If you're a trapper, Scorpion Shield is the best bet. If you're /sonic, then a res shield would do you best.

    If you're anything else, I would still suggest Scorpion Shield.
  3. Maybe as a mule it would be worth it once I get a build figured out. I just hated having to recast it so often. That was the real kicker for me.

  5. Seriously. I like all of /elec except that freaking joke of a T9. What a terrible power. No matter how hard I tried to like it on my defender, it just was.not.good.

    Anyway, I rolled up a plant/elec in anticipation of the incoming dom buffs. Got to level 8 and I'm gonna park him until they come through. It seems like /Elec is going to be quite the [censored] kicker with so much more damage. Seeds of confusion feels like cheating.
  6. /rad, /dark/ and /storm would be good soloers. Traps and Sonic provide mezz protection but /traps is very ...eh and /Sonic only has like 3 powers that will actually help you when solo. Fire/Traps would be a pretty decent soloer.

  8. I have been having fun with it. Pulling EBs from Scirocco's arc onto 15 trip mines and "one shotting" them, is pretty entertaining. That damn Silver Mantis is the only one I couldn't kill with that. On teams it does well. My basic strategy is to follow the brute, let them grab the aggro, and immediately start dropping a mine. Jump back right as it is set and shoot Full Auto. Does good damage.

    You have to pretty much accept that you're not going to be playing this character in any way that you are used to playing a character. It's more of a set where you want to be in the mind set that you have these fun little toys to play with.

    Of course the last time I played there was a damn shockwave spamming Stalker that would shockwave EVERY damn group while I was setting a mine and make me waste it.

    I say go Fire/Storm. Not totally FOTM but still extremely powerful and tons of fun. Freezing Rain, Rain of Fire, Fire Ball, Fire Breath. Tons of damage and lots of fun.
  10. Anyone else remember when Rest had a 20 minute recharge? I think I had it like 4 slotted back on my first character when I started playing in I4.
  11. AR/Traps is oddly still fun to me even though I've trashed the combo in the past. I currently have a level 41 that I got back into playing just randomly. I was on a team doing those oh-so-popular rikti LT farm type MA missions. I respec'd into a completely different play style and I seem to have fun. Of course it's not a traditional play style but that's ok.

    I dumped P.Trap and Ignite like a bad habit. In it's place I took seeker drones, fighting pool for weave, and focused on slotting up my cones. I have Burst, Slug, Sniper, Buckshot, F.Thrower and Full Auto from AR. From Traps I have W.grenade, Acid Mortar, Seekers, FFG and trip mine. I get about 30% positional defense.

    My strategy was to be right behind the brutes/Night Widow/whatever and let them grab the aggro right before I was in the middle of the spawn. I'd place a trip mine, which would usually work since my defense is fairly high and I wasn't pulling aggro, and as soon as it was placed I'd quickly take a few jumps back and shoot off Full Auto before the mine exploded and scattered everything.

    I was laying down TONS of AoE damage this way. I'd follow up with FT and Buckshot when needed and I'd use Sniper to cap runners. Yeah I'm neglecting the majority of the /traps set, but to be honest, things died so fast why waste time using AM or even bothering having a crappy P.Trap that would just annoy me every time I used it and saw how crappy it is now.

    For flavor, I have Full Auto frankenslotted to have ED capped damage, about 40% extra accuracy, 70-some-odd % recharge, and 2 full level 40 common range IOs in it. I can spray stuff from REALLY far away, and I only lose about 10 seconds of recharge time on it.

    So, yeah AR/Traps is still playable, and it's still not that great of a combo, and nope, it doesn't synergize well with itself at all, but I found a way to make it fun for myself. After getting scorp shield I should be just about capped to smashing/lethal, high 30's to energy, and around 30% to everything else.
  12. If anyone wants to recreate it with different types of bosses all you have to do is make a custom mish with just that particular boss being the only enemy in the custom enemy group you make. I'm sure you all know that but I'm posting a litle ...tipsy so WOO WOO!

  16. I think it went that way when the clearest option for having more zones for each side was just to allow players to cross over into enemy territory. It really doesn't make any sense that all of the new content for heroes and villians combined is based around them working together...again and again. PvP zones don't feel right. Sure you got H vs V going on, but it's all...regulated and expected. Finding a REAL villain in Atlas Park on your way to the next mission, plotting some devious trap, and then fighting him and chasing him out of there is so much more interesting than going to the pre-determined PvP zone where you expect them to be, having a clearly "line in the sand" and then fighting some explicitly PvP spec'd build... then getting [censored] out in broadcast chat.

    Having set PvP zones makes PvP viable for only the most hardcore players that have strict PvP power sets built to PvP in that specific level range. Two non-FOTM players, just random builds, maybe not the best for PvP, hell maybe it's a complete mismatch, but still, it helps bring PvP into the heart of the game in a way that's fun and accessible.
  17. I would like to have an option for villains to travel to hero zones and vice versa. I would also not suggest such an idea unless PvP was activated in such a way so that it's fair. A dynamic like this is what CoH needs and has needed for a long time. You're flying around, doing whatever and all of a sudden over on that building! A villain! They can attack and be attacked by anyone. Say what you want about ganking, but I would find this super fun. A player can set himself for PVP if he wants, so that he can be attacked. Or a player can choose not to be flagged for PVP at the time so he can't be bothered.

    I'm not all up on hero/villain co-op content. I mean, yeah, it's cool, but how many issues can survive on the concept of "HOLY CRAP *insert something crazy here* POSES A THREAT TO THE WHOLE WORLD! HEROES AND VILLAINS MUST TEAM UP, DESPITE THEIR DIFFERENCES, AND FIGHT OFF THIS NEW THREAT!!"
  18. One of the things I liked about the original hollows was having huge groups of +X enemies, contacts with inspiration stores, and an AoE heavy character. You could level up extremely fast just going inspiration god-mode and blowing up spawns over and over again.
