Quote:There IS a limit on story arcs, but the limit is 5.Hi,
I'm playing a technology origin lvl 50 tank and have Unai Kemen already, but am trying to get Harvey Maylor as a contact and no one is giving me him. Looking at my contacts list, I have 3 story arcs open, one from when I was lvl 1, and another from crimson, and of course Unai. My question is, do I need to close 2 story arcs before I'll be introduced to Harvey Maylor or is there something else I can do?
To further the confuzzlement, this limit is only for Major Story Arcs. There is no limit to the number of Minor Story Arcs you can have open. Crimson's story arc and Unai's story arc are both major arcs. I'm guessing your arc left over from level 1 is a minor story arc, and so should not count toward your 5 arc limit.
Harvey is introduced by Unai, so check your contact list again, and see if Unai's progress bar is up to the first tick yet (that's when he'll give you a contact). In any event, my suggestion would be to do more missions for Unai, until he's convinced to give up Harvey.
(Harvey is also introduced by Madeleine Casey, but since you are now 50, you've outleveled her missions (40-44), and so she probably won't give you any to count towards Harvey.)
You can only get Harvey through Unai or Madeleine, and Madeleine is closed to you, so go do Unai's missions. Eventually, you'll get Harvey. -
Quote:Quite. All this angst over nothing. Has anyone actually SEEN this supposed "Praetorian Chaser"? All we have to go on from the OP was this nebulous word "supposedly". Why has no one posted a pic of this vehicle yet?1. That is not a or the problem.
2. He was already told it was a recolored Longbow Chaser.
3. The post I quoted had him saying 'the power' and not 'the Praetorian Chaser'. The Praetorian Chaser is not a or the power. It is just a physical manifestation of *the* power for gold siders.
Any problem here is a manufactured one. It's like saying the Devs let us down because when they introduced a new faction, let's say the Talons of Vengeance,' e.g., and they didn't post a picture of every minion, lieutenant, and boss of the faction, so, "I don't know whether I want to play the next Issue."
Most people, if curious what the Praetorian Chaser looked like would politely ask if someone could post of picture of it. The OP in this case made the lack of picture a failure on the part of Paragon Studios.
A manufactured problem.
The post when it was announced said this: "Heroic alignments summon a Longbow Chaser and Villainous alignments summon an Arachnos Flyer."
Isn't Resistance a Heroic alignment? Isn't Loyalist a Villainous alignment? I don't see how being from Primal Earth or Praetorian Earth even enters into it. -
Quote:gah, really?Same same same, here.
As an aside, I got Nemesis Plot just randomly passing through Peregrine from the RWZ. It looks like the badge just awards across the entire zone, whether you participate or not--luckily, I happened to be on my main badger.
And I was under the impression you had to at least hit the GM Nemesis at least once. I'll be testing this to see for sure. -
Bought in the Market with Paragon Points is my bet. They're not gonna just give it away, unless it wasn't very popular during its run, which I'm guessing is not the case.
-
There are a few weapons that have to be unlocked with PPs spent in the Market. Yes, of course I'd call that an unlock. Not a hidden unlock, but an unlock just the same.
-
You know, there's a rumor going around that there are other zones in Paragon City than just Atlas Park.
Still in AP at level 8? Seriously? -
If you hate Dark/Psi, do yourself a favor and try Mind/Psi. It's like the Swiss Army Knife of Doms. It's like having a "safe mode" button.
Sure, Sleep is a soft control. But Mind adds in Confuse and Fear to make up for that. Add in the fact that Sleep is one of the longest lasting controls out of the box. Many tools in that there toolbox. On top of it, Psi is less resisted than many damage types. -
Quote:I know this is not what you asked, but if you are wanting survivability, look again at Ice/Ice. Holds and slows are great survival tools. While it is true it doesn't have the best damage, in truth the best damage set and the worst damage set aren't all that far apart, and Ice is not the worst.Hiya folks,
I'm returning after being gone for quite awhile and I'm looking for a blaster to solo quest with. I have it narrowed down to Beam Rifle/Energy, or Dark Energy/Dark Armor. Which is the better of the two for dmg and survivability on my way to 50?
Thanks!
Of course, as always, YMMV. -
Quote:I haven't heard anything yet, but I'd like to know of any myself.Just wondering any in game staffs that people found? Vanguard glowie stick? Shadowshard eyeball on aa stick? Octipus tenicle?
As an aside, I thought we'd be seeing more "xxx on a stick" character names with this. Maybe it's still too early for this. -
Quote:Mind/Psi Doms are delicious, no matter where you're playing: blue, red or gold side. I love my 28 Mind/Psi Dom so far.I have a Mind/Psi Dom in Praetoria, who is currently running repeatable missions to get up to level 30 in time for I23. She has been ridiculously easy to solo pretty much from level 1. The variety of controls means that there's always something available to neutralize mobs. I won't say she's blindingly fast, but she's been extraordinarily safe.

This has already started to some extent on the more populous servers. I've seen it on Virtue, anyways. We're getting back to the "DarkLord Darkity DarkDark, Dark Lord of the Dark" characters again. I've seen several of these blueside just in the past month on Virtue.

Quote:You don't have to include the [YOURGLOBALNAME] bit because global channels automatically put your global at the front of the line anyways. If you do it this way, you'll see two instances of [YOURGLOBALNAME] on the line after you send it.What I use is this bind:
j "beginchat /send "Jello Shooters" (as $name) "
where:
j is the key to which I have bound the macro
"Jello Shooters" is the name of the Global Channel I have set up this macro for (between apostrophes because it's more than 1 word)
$name is the variable (as Roderick explained) to send your character's name.
After I hit the "j" key, it automatically gets typed in my chat window, and all I have to do is add the "Chat text".
To do something similar to your exemple:
[Global Name][Character Name]Chat text
[LETTER] "beginchat /send "NAMEOFYOURGLOBALCHANNEL" [YOURGLOBALNAME][$name]" -
There's still life on this server. It's just that after the transfers of higher characters and the rush rush rush to get some others to 50, all that's left are the ones who level their characters semi-naturally by soloing like me, and since the server is new and the solo grind does take a while and nothing's really pushing us to do it that fast. My highest level character here is still only 28 atm and I still have a lot of lowbies since any new characters I make for concept or whatever are still fairly low. My main servers are still Freedom and Virtue, so there's that, too. We're all here still enjoying the game and that journey to 50 is still what it's all about, no rush, really. The server is still new, and so the average level of a character here is still fairly low, that's all. As the server matures, so will the average level and the total number of characters here. Heck, I don't even know what the main global chat room names are here yet. *runs off to check*

Quote:This idea is pure win.I could live with this...
In fact what I'd dearly love to see is some new costume bundles (Signature Costume Bundle #1, Signature Costume Bundle #2, etc) designed around unique NPC parts. They don't necessarily have to be exact duplicates but "inspired by" and "pretty close" would be acceptable. They also don't even have to be full fledged costume sets. Just parts. Think of Ms. Liberty's belt and shoulder options, Foreshadow's hair, visor and gloves, Mynx's letter shaped belt buckle etc. Take all that and put it into a bundle... there's probably a good 4 or 5 bundles they can put together just from enemies and npcs right now never mind as new enemies/npcs are added...
But I'm thinking the one thing they'd keep back from players is especially the signature pieces. They wouldn't want every SS/Invuln sporting BAB's bracers/gloves, or every archer using Manticore's bow or headpiece. -
I've used all the origins on occasion, but I use magic far more than the others. It seems the most versatile. Magic comes in many forms, from self-taught magic practitioners to special heirlooms handed down through the centuries to "favors from the gods". A utility belt or "years of grueling training" or even a "special recipe of 11 herbs and spices" only gets you so far.

Quote:I always thought Holsten Armitage more of a "Doc Brown" than a "Doctor Zarkhoff".I've always felt that Holsten Armitage has been a character with some really wasted potential in this regard. He's basically Doctor Zarkhoff. He's the crazy guy with the wild hair and the outlandish claims yet he can prove enough of them that me may not be as crazy as he appears. He has a time machine in his basement instead of a rocket in his garage but otherwise he's a perfect launching point. You can't even say that he's wrong - his timeline may be a potential future or it may be a different dimension or something else entirely. Who can really say for certain?

Yeah, I was just going to comment then probably the OP would not like to be here when the Coming Storm™ *finally* gets here. It sounds like it's going to make what has occurred so far look like a tea party.

Quote:Poor taste? Really? When my friends and I suggested it... 3 or 4 years ago it was not suggested as a joke... We were serious that we wanted it... Our suggestion for it happened long before the stuff you mention happened... in fact it was around the time that the jester costume stuff came out, and we made an all clown SG..... It had NOTHING to do with anything that you are talking about.... SO for me they are taking something we sent them as a request and are using for jokes.... I find it in poor taste that they took something we asked for and ran with it like this... and there are things in the joke that were specifically asked for like Clowns jumping out of a tiny car... we suggested it like thug war....
I normally do not post here, but every time I send a suggestion through the option I get told to go to the forum if I want the devs to see what I have to say, and this time I decided to do that.... because I want to pass the message to them that taking something we asked for specifically, and using it as a joke is in POOR TASTE...
Take a long look at your forum name and then come talk to me about poor taste.
Seriously. -
Quote:This is me 100%. I couldn't have said it better myself. Now I'm wondering if I'm not, like your characters, you with a different history. For me personally, I tend to play the game making two assumptions:
1. The world is what it is. Its not a poor imitation of our world, or a comic book world, it is what it is, period, and I have to live in it.
2. My character is what I conceive her origin to be, but in all other respects is me. I don't roleplay someone else: I tend to roleplay me with a different history.
95% of the time, that works fine. Gameplay conventions tend to be easily ignorable. Sometimes it glitches a little, usually when game presents situations that are contradictory even within its own world, but that's usually not a problem either. Occasionally, like when I side switch for badges, its highly confrontational. Badging is itself a meta-gaming activity, and side switching requires proceeding through content that is often highly morally objectionable. I can't be me but different in them. Me but different usually wouldn't run them. So I have to turn my brain off and tell my hands to do it without me.
You can only pretend to be mind controlled or possessed or drugged or insane so many times before your character would probably just kill herself already.
Both interestingly and disturbingly, SSA7 demonstrates the devs do not seem to intend to keep a Chinese Wall between the mechanics of side-switching and the canonical storytelling of side-switching. From a game design perspective I'm intrigued. From a player perspective, I'm personally disturbed.
In any case, the direct answer to your question is that in general I see the game as an environment I choose to enter, and I obey its rules once I do. I fit into the game. I do not see the game as a tool to instantiate my own environment. I do not write my story. I *act* my story, within the limits of the game. I'm perfectly fine with other players seeing the game as a canvas to create their own story, such that everything that isn't a tool is an impediment, but that's not how I see it. -
Come on, folks, take a look at the calendar.
Geeeeeeez, ya gotta draw some people a picture. -

Quote:Count me as one of many who thought his *apology* was wrong and unprofessional. You may characterize what he said as "crazy nasty" but only because he was talking to you and people like you, who actively look for exploits and when found, use them constantly until they are fixed. His comments were not aimed at the average player, but those who exploit. That needed to be fixed and dealt with in a way that clearly showed it was not acceptable. The reason for his apology was the company's decision to knuckle under to the many self-centered players who thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread and who were vocal in their displeasure at being called out for their abuse of the game system. Unfortunately, this was also the turning point for this game's "kid glove" treatment of farmers who now blatantly abuse the system with constant advertising of farms in Atlas (not so much now that DFB has officially sanctioned farming), which was one of the big reasons I quit the game a year ago, that my beloved City of Heroes had turned into City of Farms. He should have stood by what he said, but the Company simply wouldn't allow that. What is your deal for real are you "just" a troll? I never said a damm thing about "uncharacteristic". I said for the third time crazy nasty, crazy nasty enough to have to apologize because he was WRONG for making that type of post to the community as it was TOTALLY unprofessional.
So unprofessional he had to apologize for it. That is what happened there is no dispute to that by anyone not trying to be a GD troll yet again. Bugger off.
EDIT: Yes, I am making assumptions in this post, some of which may be unfounded. Feel free to flame away. -
Quote:However, looking back on the rise of Penelope Yin, Psyche's end was a fait accompli. She's obviously been groomed to take her place, but just as obviously, she's more of a dominator than a controller, less support and more damage, and so she should be a little more exciting to watch than Psyche in that role.I'd go with unfortunate implications. Psyche's death is pretty clearly (at least to me) meant to drive the Manticore storyline. Psyche's entire relevance lately is only to define him; she has no real purpose otherwise. I think there was a Sister Flame quote at the time of the wedding about stopping being superheroes and having babies or something like that. She was fairly close. As a character Psyche ceased to be an independant entity and became no more than another way to define Manticore. She was done as far as character development goes at that point. Possibly sexist, I suppose, but not spiteful towards Jack. And I don't think it was sexist so much as they didn't think it through. It looks bad that she was married and then done as an individual while here husband gets character development and storylines, but I think they weren't looking at it as a whole. They have two seperate stories, the marriage and Manticore's fall, and just never considered how they looked together.
That she was Jack's creation is just bad timing. They'd have killed off anyone who was married to Manticore no matter which developer was responsible for their creation. It's obvious he's being set up for a clear switch to vigilante and possibly even towards villain as the game defines the alignments.
So no intended spite, it's just that Paragon Studios doesn't think about how their storylines intertwine after they move on to the next shiny thing.
