Theoretically it should... I just don't know of anybody that's tried.
Are you sure it's based on the side you pick and not on the actual AT of the character?

Because I've seen quite a few bugs in the side-switching system to know the game seems to have a bit of a problem recognizing anything you did before switching, and I don't have enough data yet to really know if this would affect that or not. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

I can't check this out myself as I already have far too many 20+ characters for a fair test.

As to your second point, converting to Hero should unlock Kheldians, yes, but wouldn't it also re-lock the Arachnos since you no longer have a 20+ Villain?
  2. I find getting that first tip to drop is the hardest. After that, I usually get the rest in the tip missions.

Well, yeah, I know that. That's why I'm wondering what will happen when I get to 40 because then I should get a mission for a 6th slot. At the pace I'm on now, I'll get my 5th slot at 30. The game should have known when I switched sides that I already did the level 20 mission for a slot and not offered it to me hero-side too, but it did. So I'm calling it a bug, since the game should be smart enough to see I already have the level 20 slot.

Try bringing over a Mastermind to the Hero-side. I had to listen all day to people in broadcast bad-mouthing masterminds and how they're "ruining the blueside" and how you can't even go to a trainer or WW without having to wade through the pets. I did manage to get into a group and the comments there were minimal, but there still seemed to be this undertone of barely contained intolerance for my pets.

    Loyalist info

The Power path is similar to the Crusader path, in that you end up doing some morally questionable things for your cause.

The Responsibility path is a little bit less so, so it's more similar to the Warden path, where you're trying to save more people and even though it's not quite as questionable in parts as the Power path, it's all pretty iffy on the morality scale.

The cool part, in my opinion, is that you can do either path for your initially chosen alignment and still do either the Responsibility or Warden path for the other side at the same time (in undercover mode for your initially chosen side).

I doubt that, since I switched my demon MM to Hero side last week, and she's never experienced this bug.

Switching sides seems to have a few other bugs though. For example, my level 25 demon MM did the level 20 missions for a cape and for a costume slot at level 20 and then after switching did them again hero side at level 24, and then she turned in the halloween event salvage for another slot, so now she's level 25 with FOUR costume slots. I wonder what will happen when she hits 40 and tries to do the Icon extra slot mission for a sixth slot.

And there's more of the effing things spawning all the time too. RUBBISH. You suck, whoever you are.
You think Hide should give you an automatic free ride?

If you actually read the debriefing for the mission, you'd see that the device you had acts as a "ghoul beacon" so that's why they saw through Hide. It's not "totally crap gameplay".

I've always said, take away Hide and stalkers are a joke AT. Maybe you should play a scrapper and you'd have a chance at actually surviving those ambushes.

Do you really think that the best Heroes are Loyalists? Really? I find that sort of bizarre.

(Although given the puzzling amount of "heroes" who are barely one step above sith lords, maybe that viewpoint is not so bizarre as I first thought.)

By "first normal origin contact" I meant your first HERO normal origin contact. When you switch to hero-side, you lose all your contacts, so I would have thought that the game would provide you with at least one new hero contact to get you started, and that it probably would be one of the contacts for your level range and of your origin.

In order to have any contacts in CoH, you are referred by another contact. This is what makes starting Hero-side after a switch so problematic. Without ANY contacts, the only method for getting new contacts (before radio missions and detectives) used to be to see your first origin contact and then you could ride the chain of referred contacts until you got to the one for your level range.

As it is, I did get a contact from the detective for my level range (in Talos Island) after a safeguard mission and I just went from there.

Someone just suggested this to me in broadcast a minute ago. I'm now in the process of doing just that.

Yes, I got all those and went to them and got their missions. I'm just kinda wondering why you don't automatically get your first normal origin contact.
  12. I finished all the tip missions and made the switch to Hero this morning. In my contact list I have one contact: Lorenz Alsondo. So how do I get my first real Hero contact? Since I'm magic origin, I tried going to Azuria, hoping she would refer me to a level 5-10 contact and I could just follow that trail until I got a contact in my level range. But she said that she was not part of my destiny and I should go talk to the Architect Entertainment Studio Manager. (Which is stupid cause I did that little AE intro talk missions villian side. Nevertheless, I went and did them again, and he had nada to say to me when it was over.)

So my question remains: how do I get my first Hero contact? Should I just do radio missions until the detective gives me a new contact? Is this the normal procedure, so I know what to do next time? I kinda thought the first Hero contact should be provided, but it wasn't. Popups told me I should go see Montague and Kevin Nance, but I didn't get a new Hero normal contact.

I'm a slow reader, myself, especially when I'm fighting, so if I could make a bubble linger for 10-20 seconds, that would make things much easier to read in combat. However, even JUST making sure their dialogues trigger when they should would make it much easier to read through.
Coming from a long line of MMOs that do NOT use "speech bubbles" (yes, I understand it's used to make the game more like a comic book), I've long ago turned them off. They block other stuff in the scene that I might actually want to see. I'm playing a superhero MMO, not reading a comic book, so the effort to mix the two seems clunky to me. Plus, I'm used to scanning the chat box for anything new from playing other MMOs, so I rarely miss any dialog; that is unless they shove the "wall o'text" at me, like you were complaining about in your first post. So I'd agree that NPC text timing could be better, but I'm not a big fan of the speech bubbles.

I totally agree with all you said about the NPC chatter though. Dialog is what brings characters to life, so even a couple of throwaway lines by the NPCs goes a long way to breathing more life into the game.
  14. With that kind of hassle, it sounds like it would be easier to re-roll the character. I'd just delete it and remake it and try again.

  16. >Warning: Stupid Question Alert<

Can someone tell me how do I start a character transfer?

Do I do it from in-game at the character screen or on the NCSoft store website? It's been a long time since I transferred a character and I can't for the life of me remember how to do it.
  17. I'm guessing all the extras we are getting with GR, like more slots, free transfers and respecs will come in tomorrow, when GR officially goes live. Those of us who pre-purchased are only getting a day's extra access to GR, and will probably have to wait a day for the extras.

Be nice if we could get a redname in here to verify, though.

  18. I'd put it in the cookie jar towards a new video card so I could finally enjoy the awesomeness that is Ultra Mode.

This is one of the reasons Activision / Blizzard is reworking the beginning zones and early levels yet again, making it easier and quicker for the starting playerbase, or players with newer characters, to get to higher levels and actually get to take part in the later level content. This goes back to my point of Bad Game Design.

    >snip<
WoW already simplified all the newbie zones by making all the mobs yellow (non-aggro) in the starting areas. It doesn't get much simpler than that. (I wonder if too many level one characters were complaining that they were actually getting attacked by the mobs.) Considering what the level 80 content is like, this isn't doing anyone any favors.

And increasing the level cap would slow this process incredibly and needlessly.

At level 49 I'm not thinking "oh good, I'm almost 50 so then I can get the good gear and run all the high level instances". I'm thinking more about which character I want to level up next or what powersets I want to try next.

With little "high-end" content, increasing the level cap 20 levels would probably double the time spent on this one character. Hmmm, do I want to spend that time getting another character to 50 or raising this character to 70?
