  1. lusca aint so hard if you know what you're doing... get a good tank, a personal healer and preferrable only blasters/defenders/controllers as filler. Sorry scrappers, that tentacle smash can hit you hard so you need a second healer (or just 1 GOOD healer) to focus healing the other melee classes.

PS. sorry in advance to all those defenders/controllers that dont like being called healers.. but even with buffs there needs to be done a load of healing
  2. if im not busy AV-bashing i'll bring ice duke along (31 ice/ice tank)
  3. get someone with invis+tp and you should be fine
if im on when you attempt it, send a tell to @stagefright and ill get one of my alts to come
  4. maybe for those that havent yet this post is worth checkin on US boards: clicky

[/ QUOTE ] Ice tanks do indeed seem to be the bane of stalkers at the moment

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have a problem with Ice Tanks as a Stalker, but that may be down to being able to Crane Kick them off their Ice Patch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

if you of course can hit him at once and even still I can imagine CE being a royal pain in the butt. I normally get to the stalkers before they launch the attack.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
The whole "forgetting to turn on toggles"-deal sounds awfully familiar .

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah or not noticing someone knocked off one of your toggles as you think you're still tanking with full protection
  7. mind is great in PvP
mind and ill controllers are especially good in pvp imo because of the fear powers. Most mez resists dont resist fear and with the fear changes it works almost as well as a hold/immob.

2 other great control sets are earth/storm and ice/storm.. the amount of sheer control you get is just crazy.

when was the last time anyone gauged someones ability by looking at their pvp rating?

    [/ QUOTE ]

true.. i dont hold pvp rating that highly.. Duke's rating is pretty low cause his main purpose is to soak the aggro while his teammates finish the villain off. For those kills he barely gets rep, highest I ever got was spending a whole night in BB with massive battles and even then I only got it to 20. However most villains that fought me before (especially stalkers) think twice before attacking me.

Best villains are the same people who have the best heroes. PvP is 75%-80% Skill. Most show only 20-30% of what a build because they never find out what their build can really do.

The questions are; Why can 95% of the tanks out there not hold any aggro? Why does blaster insist that range is the only way to go. Why do empaths only heal, why does 50% of the illusion controllers not use phantom army for initial aggro? and so on. These people who "fail" in PvE I also see trying to win PvP against people who can solo invinv missions set for 3-4 people with a blaster.

Plight Trawler is a guy I have much respect for, he is one of the few people I have meet that truely knows the limits of his build. Do you guys think he found these limits by being afraid of getting debt, by not experimenting. He is one of the few guys I know that has tried to solo AVs with a blaster, he lost but he kept trying. (Im also gonna try, and Im sure as hell gonna reach debt cap before I give up). The guy is worth 2-3 normal blasters.

Stop looking for uber builds and start being the best. Perhaps the uber build isnt discovered, cause you wanna be PvPers are trying to dublicate some others peoples playstyle instead of finding your own.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Imaginary FTW!

Seriously though, I've said it once and I'll say it again, part of the skill in PvP is finding a good build from the powersets you have. It might sound big headed, but I'd like to think I go some way to proving this, since I definitely don't have an uber-build by any stretch of the imagination.

    [/ QUOTE ]

sure, a good build does wonders... however give a "bad" build to a good PvPer and he will turn it into a killer. (still have to get used to playing my ill/ff in pvp though )

while we're discussing base items has anyone found any aberrent or aeon tech?

The former is needed to make a generator energy curtain and the latter for a special capacitor... i haven't heard of anyone recieving this salvage though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

iirc aberrant tech is tech you get for completing indoor pvp mishes in either BB or sirens, cant remember which
  11. made my ice tank in i4, could often outherd/outtank firetanks (never really compared to stone+mudpots), herding complete maps of all enemies, fire energy absorption, fire ice patch, and just let my teams take em out.

Those were the good days, got him to 27 then (didnt even get a travel power cause i was focussing on my armors). However then came the issue 5 ice gimps, max taunt, max aggro etc.. this lead to me not playing my tank for all issue 5. Now in issue 6, they are somewhat less gimped and I get him out occassionally, though mainly for PvP. Thank god they get some loving again in i7. Ice tanks pre-i5/6 were underrated, not underdeveloped.

Now we ARE underdeveloped and hopefully the i7 changes will balance that. Though I have to wonder how truthful that wording of "we will not make major changes to powers anymore" was now (even if its for the good).

Oh and CE vs other auras, for getting aggro and bunching/herding I think CE is better because of the slow. You can aggro a whole mob, wait till CE kicks in good, run to the next mob while the other mob tries to follow you which they cant cause of the slow. Keep repeating till you got em bunched up nice n tight and then just fire off those AoEs .

There are still good ice tanks out there, just they are rare and it is VERY player dependant. I can still tank properly even when I play a sorta gimped set.
  12. hm, well we all know that CoT need human "hosts" for their oranbega spirits to occupy, hence the possessed scientist. Maybe you need to sacrifice "souls" to caleb to make him spawn? Make it kinda like the pirate ghost hunting in port oaks with the spirit traps. Maybe a similar thing has to be done with the nerva daemons.

Time of day is important and they got fires to use as a beacon, so would this implicate it has to be done at night?
  13. ill/ff also works for protecting squishies as I've noticed

Though I would think that grav would be a good combo as well, especially once you get your pet that just keeps smashing enemies all around the place keeping them out of the fight
  14. yet i think icicles aint really worth the end it costs to sustain
  15. [ QUOTE ]
For the fun of it, go for ice. That set might get some more love in I7, not only considering the update to Defense.
    /quote]

Ice tanks can be really annoying to fight in PvP. Because everybody's accuracy is lowered to 50% for PvP measures, combined with the high defensive value of an ice tank makes them a real tough nut to crack. Just ask any villain in BB/Sirens whom I've fought when I take duke out on a little villainbashing action.

Personally when I pvp with one of my vills, I like inv or stone tanks better than ice cause I can actually hit those . Fought a stone/em tank the other day in sirens with my MM (robo/poi) and he went down faster than a blaster diving into hamidon

Stone tanks dont get their major advantage till Warburg or lvl 32+ arena matches.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
all archtypes are brilliant, just depends on the player.
the most feared in pvp is a controller.
personally, i cant stand stone/storm controllers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

oooh guess what troller i sometimes take to the pvp zones

anyway, there are alot of different good ATs to go PvP. Seeing like said in multiple threads before PvP is more like a rock-paper-scissors game where every power you got most likely has another power to counter it, there is no "best" AT.

The thing that makes an AT great is the player behind it. However I, personally think that these AT builds are pretty good in PvP:

    Tankers:
ice/em or ice/ice for the <32 PvP action. For 32> nothing beats granite (so stone armor), PvE or PvP. Havent thoroughly tested how well ice stands up in the post-32 PvP though.

    Scrappers:
My personal favs (both having fought against and teamed with) must be spines/regen and spines/dark. Havent seen all scrappers around in PvP though, so if somebody has more scrapper experience, let me know and please correct me.

    Blasters:
Not having played a blaster to a high lvl myself, but purely judging on the powers, I'd say ice/nrg or nrg/nrg are the best. The key in a PvP match are you secondary effects seeing most people got some way to negate pure heavy damage you fling at em. The /nrg is best imo cause of its primary power boosting effects and the punches can do some nice toggledrops.

    Defenders:
Hm... hard one.. every defender can really be good in PvP because of their buff/debuffs. Cant really say much more bout this set.

    Controllers:
Again a hard one. Though for PvP I'd say earth/storm or ice/storm are some of the best. However for sheer controlling ability, nothing beats gravity or mind control primary. So basically its up to the player.

Hope this helps a bit, but remember its not that AT that makes you a good PvPer, its the player himself. Even the crappiest build can become a PvP god with the right player.

PS. These are just my personal comments, anybody with different perceptions, feel free to comment.
  17. after that same PB had to take a break cause his end couldnt cut it while the WS happily kept pummeling her
  18. in reply to the pushing into objects with hurricane that doesnt give melee a chance.. maybe telekinesis shouldnt be used as well then? after all, that has the same effect and doesnt even require a bus stop for example to work. ZOMG! TELEKINESIS IS OVERPOWERED!! NERF! NERF!. *ahem*

and yeah, */nin stalkers mez protection is indeed a clicky, so I just use the oldfashioned "keep pummeling him" tactic

    Control Problems

simple solution, save some prestige so you can build a bigger control room, cause bigger control rooms can support multiple control aux systems.

    [ QUOTE ]
aye thats exactly how I meant it. People are overrating stalkers and for new players they are an easy way to learn the ropes of PvP. Of course until they find that one day where experienced PvPers enter the zone and they find out they are dead meat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is these players dont find out they are dead meat. They discover like new Marco Polo that the other players are exploiting cheating haxX0ring etc and a bunch of other excuses for their probably bad builds or tactics and inexperience which is only natural. Then they pile petitions asking the exploits to be removed such as tp foe, hurricane, tactics, yellow insps, googles, perception buffs and all the powers and everyone is left with brawl. And then once u start using brawl on auto and they see their toggles gone cause you have it 3 slotted with acc on auto they start complain more and give u abuse. Thats whats the most annoying thing about stalker villains out there (cause the majority of these comments comes from stalkers that cannot believe how they are seen or killed), not that there are not heroes that provide such abuse to other villains etc but the majority of new player base comes from CoV and occurances like this come from the other side. The usual PvPers show courtesy, good fun and always put up a good battle and some good and funny trashtalking sessions for the fun of it in the zones...*pokes gandrel and Gimpy*

    [/ QUOTE ]

its a pity, but I couldnt agree more with you there. When stalkers stay and fight, I just put brawl on auto to detoggle their mez protection, then watch em die as they keep getting knocked down thanks to ice patch and air superiority, while I hold em with freezing touch. They laugh at me when they see i mainly use brawl to attack them. Then call me haxx0r as they get detoggled and I decide to hand their [censored] over on a silver platter.

This attitude of people that cant stand that another build is better than theirs (heroes and villains alike, cause I cant stand the ZOMG!!1! Stalkers r so overpwrD!!! threads as well) is what ruins the PvP zones. The good and regular PvPers suck it up if they get defeated, and take all very lighthearted and know what theyre doing.

On the other side however, not everybody is a PvP regular and I agree (before we get THAT discussion) that you shouldnt be forced a PvP build if you go PvPing. However accept the fact that those who HAVE a PvP build will be better (buildwise) than you. Dont expect to go to a pvp zone to fight the heroes/villains there as you do in PvE.

Oh and I agree that trashtalking is all part of the fun, as long as you dont get abusive. Its fun standing in that corridor to the villain base in BB, while 10 villains decide to pound on you and all the turrets firing at you while you just do /em boombox on ice patch taunting them with "cmon you can do better than that!" while you hear them shouting on broadcast "get that friggin ice tank!!!".
  21. and dont forget some good ol' GM bashing in the hive:
    clicky
  22. making this an even more warshade heavy team, nefarious signing up

ps for those interested I also got the prussian prince of automatons ready to receive an arsekicking
  23. if you have any ground based powers (like ice patch) fly + air superiority is a nice combo as well. Especially if you like to PvP, air superiority is great to keep all those pesky flying blasters/defenders/controllers/corrupters/dominators near you to pummel on.
  24. any type will do if you wanna take down the squishies fast, however if you try to take down tanks or scrappers EM and Spines would be better yeah. Spines because of the toxic damage (and minor debuff) and EM.. well.. it's all about the toggledrops baby. If I play my tank in PvP, from all stalkers EM stalkers are most hated by me.
