Caleb Hunt - Saturday 21st 18.00
First off, here is what we KNOW. Caleb is a GM in Nerva on Thorn Isle. He is not a random spawn but is spawned by player actions. Here is the info that has been posted by Devs on here and the US boards
Bridger CuppaJo confirms that caleb (an AV in CoV) does exist, and provides some details of how he is spawned:
Just so there is no confusion -
caleb does not spawn on a regular schedule; players need to perform some fairly difficult and specific actions within the zone to get him to spawn. It takes a sustained effort to eliminate all of the Nerva demons to get caleb to spawn.
Cuppajo
I can tell you time of day is important and it takes a sustained effort to eliminate all of the Nerva demons to get Caleb to spawn.
Other info from US forums
He is NOT spawned on a random timer like other Giant Monsters. He will only spawn based on player triggered events - Confirmed by CuppaJo + GMs
Caleb appears as a Giant Nerva Spectral Daemon - and has the same resistances
According to the Badge text for killing him, Caleb is most likely to spawn in or around the Thorn Isle
Here's everything we've discovered about the strange land known as Thorn Isle, starting from the outside, in:
1. The beaches are surrounded by mobs who make "fire" that they call a "warning" and a "beacon". The MOBs also say "we must protect the sacred fires"
2. There are possessed scientist both in the beaches and inside the isle. The CoT near them say "the summoning is not yet complete"
3. The island is symetrical is several ways.
There are 2 large sacrificing/ritual/summoning circles, on the North and South points of the outer ring.
There are 2 stone hands on opposite ends of outer ring
There are 2 altars with pillars of light rising up on opposite sides of the Thorn Tree in the inside of the Isle. They are surrounding by spawns of CoT with up to 3 bosses + LTs/minions. They say "the beach has been breached!"
4. There is a barrier around the inner island. Inside the island, there are selas/runes that make up the barrier, and the barrier twinkles. The stone heads with red circles above are mission doors, inc. one of the respec missions.
5. The mobs spawn very very quickly after you kill them. To prevent their respawning, you must keep a character still on their spawn point.
6. There are Devouring Earth (DE) all around the outer ring of the isle. They are inanimate rocks and trees, but can only be targetted/attacked when they animate due to a player coming near them.
7. There is a single lvl 43 Behemoth (cons Red to lvl 40 players). He spawns at the Northern summoning circle and wanders around the isle.
Possible ways to trigger Caleb
Kill all Nerva Demon spawns on Thorn Isle within 1 12 hour in-game day/night cycle
Kill X Nerva Demon's around Thorn Isle during day/night cycle
Kill all MOBs around beach fires
Leave players at destroyed beach fire spawn points to prevent respawning
Kill all MOBs around north/south summoning circles in outer ring
Kill all MOBs inside the inner ring of Thorn Isle
Leave players inside inner ring to prevent MOB respawning
Bring Possessed scientists to the north/south summoning circles (and/or kill them there)
Bring Possessed scientists to the altars in the inner ring (and/or kill them there)
Bring the lvl43 Behemoth to one of the circles/altars (and/or kill him there)
For the "bring" tasks, using TP Foe will be attempted where possible.
Order of completing the above tasks may or may not matter(unknown), but doing it in a time frame *is* important
There is a possibilty we have to do things in parts of the zone outside of Thorn Isle as part of the trigger, but that's unlikely.
Methods tried so far in US without success
Of course, they may have missed mobs when trying
Clear entire island
Camp spawn spots to stop respawns
Only kill nervas
Observations
Fire Spawn Quotes
"Keep the fire burning. It is a warning and a beacon."
"We mustn't let them get beyond the beach"
"Thats it...good. Burn Bright"
Possessed Scientist Spawn Quotes
"Your soul is mine, pet, quit struggling. It will be over soon."
"This one struggles. How delightful."
"Yes, this one's soul will do quite nicely."
"This one has a strong will"
When interrupted: "The transfer is not complete!"
Daemon Spawn Quotes (Thorn Isle and Primeva)
"Caleb will not be pleased!"
"For Caleb!"
"We must take care of them."
Thorn Isle has three distinct Sections:
Outer Beaches
- Fire Spawns
- Possessed Scientist Spawns
- Daemon Spawns
Top Ring (Area just above the beaches)
- Possessed Scientist Spawns
- Daemon Spawns
- DE hidden as trees (Herder)
- DE hidden as rocks (Sentry)
- 2 Altars that are guarded by CoT: Pic
- CoT held in thorny vines near DE trees
Inner Island
- Possessed Scientist Spawns
- DE hidden as trees (Herder)
- DE hidden as rocks (Sentry)
- 2 Altars that are guarded by CoT (these have beams of light shooting into the sky): Pic
- CoT held in thorny vines near DE trees
Primeva Notes (Don't know if Primeva has anything to do with Caleb, but here is some info)
- The beaches have the same Daemon spawns as Thorn Isle (quotes are the same).
- In Primeva there are CoT that have slaves talking about digging up the ancient artifacts.
- The beaches also have CoT fighting DE (No quotes when approached)
- "The Shipwreck"
ooooooo sounds intersting!
Shame i don't have an high level villain to try this out
I do and will try and drum up some interest. Nice work on ideas and gathering all the information in one place. Lets beat the yanks

Could this suggest that another possible spawning method may be to Destroy all the DE but leave the CoT alone as this would remove the thing thats interfering with the CoT summons.
I'll be there!

Good call. From what I've seen on the US forums, this has not been attempted so will go on the list of things to try.
I will be there as well but will need a sk
also can i suggest that is we dont have enough people to clear the island that we try to do it on the test server where all the servers can join in. I know the badge for him wont count but as we are testing ideas to spawn him it wont matter really.
I think he may have something to do with the tree and the respec trial, maybe you have to do the trial and that weakons the area to let you spawn him.

Sounds cool, will try to be there with my lvl 40 Brute.
Sounds like Fun Kin I'll try and make it (Ok I've not got biomentia up to 35 yet But I have wandered around thorn island)
hm, well we all know that CoT need human "hosts" for their oranbega spirits to occupy, hence the possessed scientist. Maybe you need to sacrifice "souls" to caleb to make him spawn? Make it kinda like the pirate ghost hunting in port oaks with the spirit traps. Maybe a similar thing has to be done with the nerva daemons.
Time of day is important and they got fires to use as a beacon, so would this implicate it has to be done at night?

I've been following the US thread myself, it was confirmed by Cuppa (I think) that the Behemoth is unrelated to spawning Caleb.

Obviously count me in, the girlfriend will be annoyed but this is too good to miss. Big TY to kin for getting all this info up here in one place, was hurting my head sifting through USA posts looking for what they already know.
Ok now for my 0.02 infamy...
Some of the yanks are thinking of Caleb as the villian version of hami. That is to say a large scale project that would require most of a server population to make a contribution in order for it to work. Something about this idea just seems wrong.
1st... it just dont make sense to introduce something like Hami inside Nerva, because nerva is one of the "main" zones. Wouldn't the Lag become horrific to all players? I know that during one of the USA Caleb hunts the server had to create Nerva 2.
2nd... were not up to I7 yet, were still capped to lvl 40, does it realy make sense to put the big bag GM within reach of lvl 40 villians? what are they going to put in future content if they give us a massive GM battle now?
Does anybody else feel that an event on the scale of 50-150 villians (while probably a good laugh) is a bit out of place in CoV at the moment?
Also has anybody found any refrence to Caleb within there story arcs? Read anything in short storys? Seen anything that mite hint at an order of events?... Time of day?.. any basic clue? I know the devs left us to figure out Hami. but this is a diffrent ball game. Maybe were missing something more obvious, maybe this is meant to be done with an 8 man team? or maybe its just the order things are meant to be killed? or maybe it is a simple case of kill em all?
This is all just speculation on my part, but I'd love some feed back or for someone to just be able to tell me I'm deffinetly wrong, at least that way we'd have someone who knows what to do and i can get that damned badge.

I don't know about you guys, but I find it somewhat insulting the ultimate mob in this game has the name "Caleb".
"So, pray tell, what might beast did you slay this day? The Slayer of Worlds? The Smiter of Souls? The Devourer of Flesh?"
"....his name was Caleb."
Hey, it could of been "lord fuzzy bubble"....

I agree. This GM is not meant to be on the same scale as Hami. I believe it's more along the lines of Lusca, which is the only 'normal' GM in CoH which requires at least 2 teams to take down, with little to no debt. It stands to reason that they would have something similar in CoV.
I think they made it a triggered event spawn, to
1) make it more interesting, and
2) eliminate the problem with the Lusca GM atm, which is 3 concurrent spawns. The smaller US servers would have this problem, I think, as well.
My guess is, you'd need about 3 full teams. It's what I would have done.

Made it the other night with 6 ppl and only 1 death
Like you said 'You need good handlers'
Hope this will give better results than the test in the Hive
Hi - good idea for the hunt, Count me in (either with my Brute or Rad/Therm and I think a lot of the Demons and Vengeful Spirits will be there as well.
Chat Channel Set Up!
OK, I've now set up 'Caleb Hunt' as a channel. Those coming along please join it.
Once we get teams sorted on the night, there will also be a seperate leaders channel for each team leader which I'll invite people to
OK, I also managed to get a little bit of info from Bridger with regards to this. The biggest question seemed to be if it's possible for a single teem to spawn him or if it would need to be more of a server wide effort.
Here's his response
I'm not sure if a single team can complete the spawn requirements - This is a concern that myself and CuppaJo have raised with Cryptic, as only one team will get the badge for defeating him at present.
So, if we do spawn him, looks like only one team will get the badge but at least we'll know how to spawn him them and we can arrange some more spawns for thosoe who miss out until it get's awarded to all
maybe for those that havent yet this post is worth checkin on US boards: clicky

OK guys,
Time to start thinking about having an attempt at getting this GM to spawn. With any luck, we can beat the yanks to it!
There are several threads scattered about on this so Ive gathered as much information as I can find in one place rather than posting links everywhere.
The attempt will begin at 18.00 on Saturday and Id appreciated it if as many of the lvl 35+ villains as possible can come along so we can SK as many lower members up as possible. Meeting spot will be the ship wreck in Nerva.
Also, anyone who would like to give me a hand organising it on the night, please PM me on here. Finally, we need suggestions on what to actually do.
Ive split this up into several posts just to make it easier to read and spologies for the info overload. Most of this is from the US forums but Scar Child and myself, Kinslayer, spent a couple of hours on thorn Isle tonight trying out random things to get some ideas
