  1. One example is Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 - the latter was not superior to the former and ultimately died. Once it did, the company rededicated itself to the original, which has been continuing to grow and develop, albeit with a much reduced player base (the reduction more the result of other competition - like WoW - than AC2).
  2. Not that I'm playing at the moment, but I'm still paying to keep my account active - largely because I haven't recovered my password so I can close it down for now

    Welcome back
  3. Repeat after me:

    Comics are not computer games.
    Comics are not computer games.
Comics are not comput... I'm sorry, what was that?

    City of Heroes?

    Oh... nevermind.
  4. I appreciated this blast from the past, especially the reminder of Iron Fist. I thought that comic was cool
  5. I may actually have to start playing again...

Where will I find the time? I must win the lottery and quit my job!
  6. Most of my toons are somewhat complicated/dark/twisted (i.e. not in a very happy place) so I don't think I would want to be them. From that perspective, I would want to be my defender, Chun Tse (who is fairly Zen) or my Tanker, Major Eruption (who jumps around and bashes things with his stone mace).

If the question is which I would want from the perspective of powers, I still think Major Eruption, as he can wade into a mob, plant himself, then bash those around him with reckless abandon. It is fun, and very cathartic
  7. Of course there are differences of opinion on the worth of the first three films.

I thought that the first two were incredible. The third's chief problem, IMHO, was that it tried to pack too many villains/too much story into one movie.

The great thing about Spiderman is all the great narrative to chose from for movie content. Accordingly, the "going back to high school" suggests that the studio may be ignoring all of this potential content for a re-hash of the story already told - and told really well.

Not a good thing - and considerable disincentive for me to shell out the cash to view the film when it comes out.
  8. With it being a woman in a cowboy hat, you'd expect it to be from Viv

Early Seasons Greetings to you all. I *might* even make it in-game over the holidays. (If I do, I probably won't recognize the place... )
  9. Hippo Birdees to you both.

    (And Viv that avatar is...painful.)
  10. As I haven't played in a while (but might find time over my two weeks of Xmas vacation...?), I wasn't going to reply, but...

...there used to be a small but vigorous RP community on Victory. If indeed it has declined (and/or the more enthusiastic players have moved on) that's sad. (Edit: Nice to see Calash still around, though )

I agree that some degree of RP'ing - even if limited to consistent character concept/design - is vital to this game. And this applies to the villain side, as well.

If you are Rping a villain, keep in mind: villains often don't think that they are "villians" - just that their world view/code makes sense and everyone else's doesn't. Some villains might think killing kittens is all good in the pursuit of their goals - others might not. But it's all part of the fun.
  11. oooh - MUCH better avatar, Viv
  12. Hippo Birdee Viv.

But I no like the new avatar
  13. Continuing the theme:

I have had real-life to attend to over the summer and since; and I continue to devote my (more limited) game time to my other MMORPG. I have also taken up imrov comedy classes, so I'm doing *something* that forces me to leave my office/computer at least once a week.

But I continue to forget/procrastinate turning off my account so it gets renewed and I could be playing if I chose to. I think I'm getting far behind - many good changes in CoXland since I last played.

    Topless Viv

Still a nice avatar, though, Viv

    Too Soon

Hmmmm... I might actually return to the game playing to take advantage.

Or not. There's a lot going on irl atm.

No, no: Topless Viv with chocolate cake; not pie.

I too, was dissapointed in this thread. But I will try to get over it
  17. The nice thing that you should remember about CoX is that even if you are all one archetype on a team, the variety of powers means that you can still have quite a range of abilities and therefore take different approaches to combat. A stone/stone tanker will fight differently than one with super strength, etc, etc.

For example, some people used to say there was no point in being a tanker if you didn't use Taunt. I don't use Taunt; and my tanker is still very cool to play.

Above all, the game is about YOU enjoying playing the character you do. People who try to tell you how to play, or that you're doing it wrong, can easily be avoided
  18. For what it's worth, I made a point of creating a character of every type, and was able to solo missions with each of them. I tend to like Scrappers and Tankers the most, but I admit that it's nice to be a helpful Defender too - especially when in teams.

Although "origin" isn't of huge importance, I liked selecting it based on the theme of the character. As roleplay appeals to me, I liked having things consistent; and I will sometimes select options based on what makes sense for a character as opposed to what is BEST. (For example, I never bothered to get Taunt for my Tanker. Let the derision commence ) Origin also has a minor impact on some of the special powers you get with badges.

    Enjoy the game!
  19. You got to 15 on the first night? Am I reading that right? (Wow.)

Isos I was a lot of fun. I tried to roleplay Master Mongoose and didnt always succeed, but some of the other members were pretty good at it. Ah, good times...

Voodoo will be very upset with you, Hammy. He copywrited this incident so that he can bring it up at every opportunity. I think you just infringed on his copywrite
  21. I was briefly contemplating a return to Isos (being a veteran of the first incarnation), but Wednesdays I have an evening Improv class. Oh well

    so CO is out

I would definitely agree that there is no need to fret. I'm still playing (and enjoying) Asheron's Call, and WoW was supposed to kill that. Many people left for WoW, and some eventually came back because they liked AC's content more, despite the (comparatively dated) graphics and other issues.

I just wish I had time for more games, so I could play CoX more than I do - which is hardly ever, these days
