  2. My badge-OCD was cured once I saw the game releasing badges (that could never be gotten again) for time paid....or something like the helmet we got recently for being "VIP" from, like October to March or something.

Things like that, that scream "YOU MUST GIVE US YOUR MONEY!!!," fortunately ruined badging for me.

Besides the fact that the anniversary badges....and a few retail packs with exclusive badges.....already had rubbed me raw on the deal.

Now, if I get a badge: yah!!! If not, who cares? My ex-badger (who was, at one point, 2.5 years ago) like 14 badges or less away from every badge he could possibly get.....is now sitting at 713 badges. And i'm not chasing down any more.

I remember, a while back, doing a heal farm with Lothic, actually =P

Once badges are there I can no longer get....if I can't "gotta catch 'em all" then I give up.

WHOA WHOA WHOA. Stalkers are awesome SINGLE target damage.....doesn't put blasters in 2nd tier compared to AE damage.

My stalker is fun (always has been, I feel) but my blaster is wicked....as....all....heck.

Mind you, I do agree that it needs to happen, and that a lot of the game's core systems need overhauls. But I figured I'd just take the honor away from a redname of tossing up the generic response of why it's not feasible (and then they do it anyway).

I dunno, i'm not a techy here-- by a LONG shot. However, how can they save all those maps for the Architect Stories?

Wouldn't it be similar? I don't see how single SG bases eat up more resources than if people would suddenly surge the Architect system....or call up a bunch of missions. Like I said, I ain't that computer savvy.

    Mr. True Shot.

EDIT: and I ain't that great at composition nee'der.
  5. Absolutely. They should grandfather the old bases.....make new bases with code they know works.

    I'm ALL for this.

Make new functionality for the new bases....and allow things like windows that give the appearance of being in space or underwater, etc.

It'd be nice if we were able to target an exact position in any zone to TP to from our SG bases....not game breaking at all, but neat. Add an ability to talk to contacts from our SG computer.....like the one SF on villian side with the metal spiky kinky chick. Forget her name.

Add reasons people will want to make a base.

I have a single man SG that only contains my alts....it's grown HUGE over the years, and I love it. I can do what i want with it....as opposed to SGs I joined when I first started "oh you can't change this or design that...nor do this." Bah, now I do what i want

I'm all for an issue TOTALLY dedicated to a SG base revamp.

A sad realization hit me this weekend after playing the DA arcs.....I was on +4 levels and 5 hero equivalent (woulda changed it to 8 equivalent, but we need a difficulty changer NPC in DA!!!!)....getting crazy amounts of Prestige from soloing the DA arc.....and then, after totaling a ton of prestige....I realized: I have nothing left to really buy for my base except useless vaults or defense/offense stuff that doesn't even function. =(

I simply believe you're being a bit overly strict about what your definition of a real life zombie might be. I'm open to the -possibility- that there might be some kind of disease some day that will cause enough zombie-like symptoms that people will, accurately or not, call the victims of the disease "zombies" just because it's a close enough description in the popular culture of the time. A real life zombie wouldn't have to be all about "eating brainnns" to be otherwise considered zombie-like. In fact this so-called "nodding disease" would only need some kind of wasting/necrotic element to cause its victims bodies to rot away in its final stages to be a more reasonable likeness to most people's expectations of what a zombie might turn out to be like.

I realize that people probably went a bit too far in calling the victims of this particular disease zombies. But again I'll just point out that real life doesn't have to follow the exact blueprint established by the movies. If a disease ever comes along that's "close enough" to what the movies have suggested then people will in fact call its victims "zombies" as a simple convenience regardless if it's strictly legitimate to do so or not.

Yeah, i mean it doesn't have to be word for word....but my point is, this disease seems just to cause brain damage. They even said the girl in the school uniform has been that way for years-- most likely, her immune system cleared up the disease long ago and it's just a matter of brain damage.

Or...possibly, it was heavy metals in the area. Or some other such cause. Who knows, it might even be malnutrition. My "not the best scientists" case meant that reporters can listen to anything villagers say (who can string together things that might not be related) and then the reporter says: "they start fires, they bite people, they levitate in the air and spew laser beams from their eyes!!!"

I'm saying, this disease more likely caused brain damage.....which, a hammer can also do....but i'm sure the media wouldn't call a hammer the device that began the zombie apocalypse.

Media sensationalism. I hate the media Thus, possibly where the sense of frustration is coming from.

Science is VERY often mis-understood when reported in the media.....superstition and unrelated events are often held as fact.

Recently, when everyone said: Oh look, H1N1 came and went....everyone made a big deal about it, we all got our vaccinations....and nothing happened.

What people don't realize is that, yes, we got our vaccinations: it very well might have been the thing that saved us from a pandemic.

Ok, i'll get off my soapbox. Media = evil!!!

    Mr. True Shot.
  8. Believe me, I've read reports on scientific "discoveries" from reporters that would make the scientific-baby-Jesus cry

That's the thing. Mutations are mostly deleterious. A beneficial (to the organism) mutation is pretty rare.

There would have to be such a huge amount of mutations in the rabies virus alone to make it even closely resemble a zombie virus.

In the grand scheme of things, something jumping species and killing us is way easier (because all ya gotta do is interfere with cellular processes or make things grow when they shouldn't)....but to manipulate our brains....and in such ways to make it beneficial behavior to the organism so it can procreate in a new host.....well, it's like the odds of walking out of your house and being hit by 10 different meteors at the same time (obviously not from the same meteor shower.)

While the chances of influenza recombining with pig or bird or bat genes and then transmitting to humans (who have never seen that variant of an antigen)....well....that's much more likely-- especially with the way influenza reproduces.

No, far more likely, humanity with hack, cough, and drown in their own mucus WAY before people are taken over by a virus/bacteria/parasite and made to chew on others to transmit a disease.

    Mr. True Shot.
  9. This non-communicable disease looks like: something that attacks part of the brain, leaving permanent damage. (Much-like river blindness attacks the eyes and causes permanent blindness.)

I didn't see any kids chowing down on human flesh/brains....I didn't see any gnawing, except for when the kid was tied up. Animals bite at things when they are tied up or chained against their will....and if these children had damaged brains and behaved more out of instinct.....totally reasonable.

In my opinion, rabies is FAR more like "zombie-like" than this disease. This disease only seems to cause damage to the brain.

Once more information (or the correct information) is put out there....it'll be a "devastating disease" for sure, but....nothing like zombies.

News reporters aren't the best scientist.....

There is nothing close to a virus/parasite/disease that is evolved enough to even give similar symptoms to a zombie infection. I'm, of course, talking the 28 Days Later version....as the Night of the Living Dead ones are impossible. Literally.

Rabies, while, it does affect human/animal behavior to bite others (thus transmitting the disease)....obviously, it's not very effective versus our society. There's a vaccine....it makes the infected VERY uncoordinated.....and it turns the brain to mush while it does it.

I'm not saying that diseases may not change the behavior of the host....I'm saying, it's not ever gonna cause a zombie apocalypses scenario.

What we should all be REALLY REALLY more concerned about is influenza. Seriously. "Contagion" is a much more likely movie to happen than 28 Days Later.

    Mr. True Shot.
  10. This, more than anything, sounds like another case of over-embellishment.

I would have linked it to my FB for others to see....but I didn't even recognize the news site (not that I looked hard)....and with all the "scratched out" statements and even others saying "the aggressive state is debateable"....yeah, sounds like internet rumors and crap to me.

(Like the guy with wings last week...obvious fake.)

Besides, an infection that makes it victims "set fire" to things....REALLY? Humans do not have an innate ability to set fire to anything.....so, it makes the person go out and hunt for matches/lighter...and then find something that will burn? All while making the person irrationally aggressive?

    Really?

Working in infectious diseases....i'm calling this B.S. *shrugs*

  16. Sorta funny no one brought up the face that: those of us in beta in 2004 got a specific flavored sprint power depending on which retailer we bought our game from.

Since then, they've been released to the public in general. All 4 of them every account. I think it was a paragon reward? I dunno.

My point: it's already been done

    Mr. True Shot.
  17. I used to randomly sometimes head to the movies after shopping....or just go on a whim some nights.

Now it's a carefully planned strike. I go when the 2D movies are. They are around $8. The 3D are around $14/$15.

I've gone there and everytime it's convenient....there's a 3D movie only....last few times that happened, I walked out, went home and watched Netflix.

I realized a few days ago I haven't been to the movies in MONTHS....I wanted to see Underworld...was gonna go a few days ago, and realized I missed it around here. *shrugs* Oh well.

Double feature of "Underworld" and "Chronicle." Probably will see Chronicle *IF* I get to it in time...if not, I don't even know what's showing anymore. Hollywood has certainly shot itself in the foot (at least in my case.) I used to know what was coming out every week and went a few times a week or at least once.

    .....bah.

    Mr. True Shot.
  18. Yeah, sorta shocking how fast I got my character along. I'm not done yet....but, basically, a very iTrial heavy weekend and he's almost there.

I did 2 characters in a few weeks....and I don't have all that much time most of the time.

I will go on record as saying: yes, it's the incarnate shifts that make a HUGE difference. It all boils down to level, in the end. It's a system where you are coming in almost at the base level to hit things.....then you get level shifts....but the level shifts don't matter outside of the trials.

So, it feels like a cheap way to make characters progress....but, hey, not REALLY progress. Maybe when they add more content for incarnates? I dunno. I think the whole system needs fleshed out more.

    Incarnate Trials

    Awesome, thanks for the tips.

I'll probably read up on them outside of the game.

I'm getting them down....we did a TPN (I think that's the one with Maelstrom)....and, as a stalker, I understood to wait until the guys around the techs were pulled....and then I took them out.

Still, if I get separated from the group (by a kick-shot from good ol' Maelly)....then I'm lost as to where to go next.

So, TPN and BAF I got down pretty well now

Keyes is still crazy, though, someone mentioned pulling things away-- I see it's like the techs in TPN then. And then you can use your temp power. It makes a lot more sense now!

    Incarnate Trials

Awesome, I was thinking of just reading up on them outside of the game itself to figure these out.

Still, I think, by design, it should be a little more straightforward with where people need to be....and some sort of help for noobs on what things do, and what objectives there are.

And the story just spams by =P

Some leaders get mad when things don't work out....but I feel most of the time it's because some people don't know what's going on. Or....like last night: when prisoners were escaping....on a Nightstar/Siege.....that the leader had sent most of the non-level-shifted to the south area...and that's why we had a ton of escaping prisoners.

There need to be better tools for sorting through the raid-type mess. I dunno, maybe i'm alone here on that thought. =D

    Incarnate Trials

    Hey Everyone,

As most of you know, I just returned.....ok, more likely, everyone is saying: who is this??!

Doesn't matter! I just got back from a two year break and since then the incarnate trials have been introduced.

Long story short: I'm building up my incarnate-y powers....however, the trials themselves are confusing as all hell. Some are more straight forward than others.....but, the way the trials are run....I can't pick up the storyline, MUCHLESS my objective....sometimes, I don't even friggin' know where I need to be (we need waypoint markers on the map for the next objective!)

Some of them aren't so hard to pick up. Nightstar/Siege....I think I sorta got the Marauder one down....though, how to get grenades/acid is still a mystery as I'm using superspeed to keep up with the people in my group. We start fighting an area and suddenly, i'm the only one left.....so I speed off to meet my group again....why did we pause??!

Last night, i actually saw that we were destroying weapon crates. OH!!! So, that's how you get the grenades? I think? And that's why we stop and fight for a minute and speed off?

My point: the trials aren't very noob friendly. Everyone mostly speeds through the trials....and I'm left wondering where I need to be, when....and most of the time WHY??!

Lets not even get started with the trial where you can't use AE damage outside and drop your.....ummmm......popularity or whatever it's called. I understand you have to set up a broadcast and make us look good and them look bad.....but....you have to go in THIS building, and then that one....then this one!

I once got hit by a bunch of rocks, died, and by the time I rezed, I had NO idea where my teammates entered. I spent the next few minutes dodging rocks and going to the point on the map that i saw some stragglers enter at the last second....but i couldn't find the entrance for the LIFE of me. I waited til they came back out and followed them to make sure I didn't get lost again.

.....can we make the trials more friendly for new people? A way to read the story somehow and be pointed to where they need to be. Maybe make waypoints for: "if you want grenades" or "if you want acid."

I dunno. Just my 2 cents.

    Mr. True Shot.
  23. Here's what I did to re-learn (as I've been away awhile) what I wanted to slot into what.

You hover over your powers and see what power can accept what sets. Say, your first tier power takes: End Mod, Ranged, or Sleep.

Then, you go to the Market and open up the crafted enhancements section. See what sets are available for each of those that can be slotted into your powers. Generally, there's a "winner" in each category for me.

I'll take into account: how much a full set costs, how it'll enhance my powers (Acc, Recharge, and Damage are generally my big onces....END Red comes along for the ride....at least on my blaster and stalker.)

It'll take awhile to learn, but you will come up with a theoretical build (on paper, that's how I do it.) My blaster and stalker doesn't worry about Defense....it's how you want to build your character.

Advanced steps once you learn more:

Find the basic rules of IO sets: stacking 5 (or is it 6?) of identical set bonuses is the max....so if you get +3% damage 8 times, the last few won't count.

Also, another rule: one of each specific IO can be slotted in a power once. So, Numina's: heal...it can't be slotted twice in that same power...but it can in a new power.

Another big help: some sets lack a stat you want. I've done something like this in the past: I slot 5 of a set in one power and it brings my stats to 65% damage, 94% acc, 94% recharge, 50% end reduction. The 6th IO in that set wouldn't bring up the stat I want, so I find an IO from another set that can be slotted in there.....and it enhances only damage for 40%.....boom, that's my 6th slot. I still get the 5th set bonus plus I didn't sacrifice my slotted stats.

I even have one power where I slotted 3 of one set for the enhancement bonus and then 2 of another for that bonus.

Build how you want...that's how I do it. My blaster is a beast and my stalker is getting wicked
